A few days before our trip I spoke to Brittany, the manager, to ask for our usual room and for two single duvets instead of a double.

I would of also liked a few more plugs next to the bed as you only have 1 even if it was a double plug with USB ports.

When we arrived the first thing we noticed was the main double bed was severely damaged to the point that when you sat on the bed it sunk considerably on one side.

The double bed we requested was two single beds pushed together.

You book a family room and in our case 2 adults and 1 child BUT you never get 3 cups you never get 3 glasses or enough drinks for 3 people even when they set up a double bed and a single bed.

The hotel is in a great location with plenty of free parking.

I have stayed in Premier Inns in many locations, and I can honestly say that this is the friendliest Premier Inn that I have stayed in.

The rooms were clean and tidy and there’s plenty of free parking and it’s located in a perfect location for food and shops,

The hotel was in a great position, on a retail park near shops, a big Tesco, and places to eat.

Location was perfect for a small family trip to the race course.

Always stay here when we travel to Catterick Garrison as location is perfect for us.

First time here though, Good location, lots of shops.

Located in a shopping precinct with free parking.

There are some fast food places on the complex where this hotel is located.

Brilliant Hotel well located, excellent staff very friendly, breakfast and evening meal food excellent.

The location is perfect surrounded with all the shops.

Plenty of free parking right next door to the hotel as it shares a location with a retail park.

Clean rooms and in a good location not to far in a car to explore new places.

The only issue I had was the room was too hot and the air con cannot be set below 19 c  and you cannot open the fixed windows .

All rooms are above ground level and windows don't open as air conditioned.

although the windows don't open and the air-con can be distracting.

Windows don't open which allows you to control the temperature of room with the air con - we found this really quiet so you'll hardly notice it!

Room was well equipped with media ports to connect laptop etc to the TV, Found the room a little warm you cannot open the windows and the lowest temperature on the heating/air con unit was 19 degrees.

Very good hotel nice breakfast if you need toast with your breakfast do it first the toaster to small at there busy times need more cup out waiting for them to be washed not good service when busy in the morning time

Instead it was all to order and fresh cooked which has its advantages except it meant we waited 40 minutes for the food by which time grandson had finished cereals and toast and was ready to go.

Upon entering we had to queue to speak to someone and were then informed that reception had not informed them of said booking.

The location is ideal as it is very close to Richmond and the Richmond Equestrian Centre.

The rooms are always clean, comfortable and QUIET.

Had a excellent sleep in a comfortable clean room , with the facilities you would expect from a Premier Inn.

The room was clean and up to the usual standards.

Really good stay, fantastic customer service from all members of staff and spotlessly clean room.

Very accessible off the A30, free car parking.

2nd year staying here for the Italian Car Day at nearby Raby Castle.

After the first evening we used the car to go back and forth to the hotel..

The staff did everything they could to resolve this, including providing us with a better room and later sorted out an arrangement where I could charge the electric car - thanks to Mark the manager.

Our first night was disturbed from a staff member shouting outside the window then chatting with a car engine running which triggered the security lights and lit our room up for the next 5 mins.

The hotel is an impressive Georgian style building with car parking right outside.

Travelling to the Morrit was very easy by car with ample parking.

but carpet smells of stale beer which you can smell as soon as you walk in.

We tried to check into the hotel at 2.30pm and were basically told to go away until 3pm, when we did get in the room it was a big disappointment, dirty carpet, peeling paint, rotten windows and the most uncomfortable bed with a thin old mattress.

Carpet badly soiled and desperately in need of cleaning or renewal.

Our room was disgusting, to the point where we never used the shower, the bed was wonky, full of dust, carpets dirty, paint work dirty and chipped.

Countless cobwebs, dust on all skirting boards, filth on window frames, dirty carpet, damp patch on ceiling and worst of all - broken ceramic tiles on bathroom floor which could draw blood if not careful.

The carpet was dirty and stained, the door was difficult to shut.

The carpet wasn't hoovered and there were cobwebs in each corner.

A few issues with the room firstly cleanliness - very dusty, carpets had clearly not been hoovered and the bathroom had a lot of mildew.

The loo was filthy and the features were missing compared to the picture displayed on their website again,  did not match with furniture missing and cheap dirty carpet.

The room was dirty - shower was covered in mildew, and carpets filthy.

Filthy carpets, tiles, flimsy rubbish curtains, Window painted shut, bed from circa 1902 just disgusting 

Breakfast staff worked very hard indeed

We stayed in the small double- it was dated, the carpets looked as if they had never been hoovered, the shower was filthy, and the windows were covered in what I assume was brown grease.

Dust on every surface, stained sofa so bad we couldn't sit on it, black gunge pouring out of shower, stained cushions, carpets not hoovered.

The bar area looked shabby, and carpets were tired.

It was outdated, with dirty carpets and no curtain in the bathroom.

Room 042 needs some TLC heavily stained carpet and repairs to bathroom required.

For breakfast on the first morning we were shown to the bar as we had dogs and everyone else had breakfast in the restaurant which made us feel a bit pushed out.

Front of house training required reallu sorry because we have wanted to visit for sometime but dont think we will be back.

although the bacon was cold and not would be expected of a 4 star hotel..We were compensated when we checked out which we were more than happy with.

We had to wait for some of the items to be refilled (sausages, bacon) and when they did arrive they were cold.

Even in the daytime it had a very cold feel to it throughout the downstairs rooms.

although we were a bit cold, so we opted to go into the bar.

and took so long to arrive that the toast was cold and soggy.

The Lounge already suffers from the decision to take out the real fire and it was cold and drab.

Vegetables undercooked - broccoli almost raw and cold when brought out.

The room was cold even with the Radiator set on full, and I was woken up by the thundering traffic at about 6.15am, maybe secondary glazing may help with both issue’s?

When we did ask, we had to remind again ten minutes later by which point some of the meals were cold.

but my veg was slightly cold and I wish there was slightly more on my plate for the price but other than that it was perfect.

Breakfast - rock hard bacon, cold poached egg, cold tomato and very fatty mushroom.

Breakfast cold, toast if you could call it that more like warm bread.

Beans came out stone cold on a very hot plate, hash browns cold, soggy and what seemed a thicker version of a mcdonalds hash brown.

Booked the Morritt for a single night break for family as we travelled north.

I stayed here recently for 2 nights as part of a driving holiday touring Yorkshire

On a positive note this hotel is a lovely building, set in a lovely area and ideal for exploring Yorkshire.

Stopped here on the way to the lakes, for some lunch and to break up the drive.

although the rate we booked through my hotel break was £150.

We stayed for a one night family break &  found the hotel to be lovely.

We have enjoyed a recent 2 day Spa Break in this lovely hotel.

We booked 2 rooms for 4 friends on a spa break deal.Both rooms were clean and pleasant,beautiful toiletries provided.The treatments were excellent in the spa and our only criticism was the odd afternoon tea which came with abundant pastries and frozen mini magnums !

We were very lucky with the weather, after breakfast we had a lovely walk along the river before carrying on with our holiday.

Arrived around 1600 midweek business break , check in was pleasant and advised on all the amenities 

Location was great just on a side not traffic can be heard 

Allocated room on top floor overlooking extensive gardens 

Room was quaint with great newly refitted bathroom 

Tea coffee and freeview 

Dined in the bistro excellent choice of menu , service made you feel at home 

Skipped breakfast due to early meeting

I wouldn't hesitate to book this hotel for a group celebration again and I'll certainly return with my husband for a romantic break.

Overall, great experience and one of the best spa breaks in the UK ive been to.

My wife and I decided to break up a journey to Cumbria with a spa visit and overnight stay.

This was a lovely place to stay to break up a long journey and very convenient for the A66 and Barnard’s Castle.

The perfect place to break our journey up to Scotland.

I booked this hotel for a midweek break to explore Durham, and was very attracted by it’s promise of luxury and old world charm.

Staff also need to go round tidying up after lazy customers as there were 4 plastic  cups on the salt room floor.

we had dirty cups left, beds not properly made and missing drink packets.

However, on walking around the room with the hairdryer to find a plug with a mirror, we had to settle on unplugging the kettle, opening the bathroom door and turning the shaving mirror right round!!

Often stopped en route for breakfast ,lunch or dinner.Today stopped at 8.30am for breakfast(Having bypassed several outlets)

There are a few areas we would suggest improving for a deluxe room such as general cleanliness, the shower had mildew, dusty shelves and the kettle lead didn't reach the table from the plug socket and had to go on the floor.

We also had to wait for a pot of coffee. The waiting staff seemed very young & inexperienced (cheap labour ?)

The kettle had to be out on the floor as there was no plug socket near the table.

You are served with your own pot of tea or coffee.

The radiator was stuck on the on position, we tried every setting, it was NOT switching off, this made for a very hot night in an already claustrophobic room.

Kitchen staff were isolating at the time of our visit which was annoying

Not even a tray for the cups, just all the sugar and sachets stuffed into the cups.

but the bathroom was vey tiered looking, and a constant hum all night , I think from the freezers below.

I asked about the cream tea told to come back to reception at 5.00 told then we should have book and there was no teas left and given a cup of coffee.

Small things let the hotel down - no teabags or milk in the room, nowhere to plug the kettle in.

The evening meal wasn't pleasant the Feta and caramelised onion tartlet and sticky toffee pudding had clearly been warmed in the microwave!

It was outside the hotel, a smelly and dirty carpet on the floor, no fridge, a room that smelled very musty and for a lot of money. Shameful

We weren’t told until over an hour after we had ordered our food that it hadn’t been passed to the kitchen.

The only minor blip with our room is that it is over the kitchen which had us experiencing kitchen tidying up noises until 11.00pm.

Teas and coffee not refreshed each day and dirty cups and spoons left in room.

The surrounding area has fabulous countryside, lovely quaint villages  and lots of really interesting places to visit/things to do including cycling on  quiet rural roads with some cracking climbs nearby.

This then added to the noise from the nearby A66 which we could see from our window.

The local walks were amazing and nearby pubs were open for food.

One reason being that we wanted to visit the Bowes museum nearby.

All in all, the hotel provides very good value for money and I would recommend it whether you plan to use it as a base for exploring the wonderful countryside and the fine nearby towns, Richmond, Northallerton and Barnard Castle, or simply passing through on your journey.

The Bowes Museum in nearby Barnard Castle was one of the highlights of our trip, as was visiting the market town of Richmond.

Plenty of places to walk and interesting places nearby to visit.

My wife and I stayed here 2 nights (16-18 May 2017) while visiting family in the nearby countryside.

Charles Dickens wrote a couple of books about this area and is rumoured to have stayed in the hotel or nearby.

I took my bike (keen cyclist and lots of hills nearby) and it was no problem keeping it in my room which is a huge plus for me.

For dog owners, there are some cracking fields right behind the hotel so it was really easy to take your dog out for a walk and of course, there are some lovely walks nearby.

stay with friends who were also   attending  We were in room 20.Lovely quiet setting with road noise from  relatively nearby A66 not an issue .Slept very well throughout  in a  comfortable bedroom ,well appointed.

The hotel was the resting place for the toffs and just across the nearby bridge was the accommodation for the hangers on, and the stabling for the coaches and horses.

Well worth the short detour from the A66 or short journey from nearby Bowes Museum.

I stayed a couple of nights whilst on a shooting trip nearby and I was very impressed .

We again enjoyed walking in the area, this time two walks along the river from nearby Barnard Castle.

we wanted an adjoining room so our kids could easily get to us if needed,

on arrival we had to go and find a member of staff at the bar, there was no bell or call system at the reception.

Left 2 messages on the answer phone, emailed once to get confirmation of my booking and called 4x and on4th time got the confirmation.

We always had to go looking for staff ,there was hardly ever anybody on reception which probably answers to why when we rang previous to the stay it was impossible to get through.

PLEASE can someone get back to us, you have our details on phone messages AND emails!! !

her response was to ring round other places and mentioned the holiday Inn .

We asked for someone to fix it 3 times, phone to reception not working at reception end, were given a fan when we asked for one and no one came to fix the radiator, the fan was on constantly, which made for a cooler night on night 2

There were no towels until I phoned and asked for them (I had to use my mobile, the room phone didn’t work) and a damp patch on the bathroom wall which attracted slugs during the night!

We are totally reasonable, respectable people and I swear I did not call him that and I did not deserve to be treated like this.

I rang a week before we were due to go to ask about the cream tea and also to book in for our evening meal.

I was then sent an email to leave my feedback which I did and was told I would receive a phone call to discuss my comments, 5 days later and I still haven’t heard from anyone, hence why I’ve wrote this review.

Four of the tubs are just that with no steps to access so not for the arthritic or less mobile.

We had been advised the spa had rang the restaurant, to pass on our food order and to expect us at dinner for 8pm.

The treatment was booked for 5:30 - note this also- via Phone upon booking.

The following morning we went to the restaurant and as as there was no one there walked the couple of steps to reception where the staff member was on the phone, she did not break off her conversation

We asked reception to order us a taxi, note very poor phone signal and answer was polite no.

but absolutely no way of stirring staff into action, Bar deserted, staff wandered by without response to requests for drink/menu other than to say they would be back shortly.

Staff seemed confused and uninterested, we asked for a children's menu and was told they didn't think they had one,

We told the waitress that this wasn’t what we asked for, we know it’s not her fault as she was only the waitress, plus she wasn’t aware there were two types of Afternoon Tea on offer.

Surely having ordered on arrival as requested, at 6pm, they knew how many panna cottas they had available?

but after this he was stood with another staff member from reception a young dark haired girl moaning and swearing about other members of staff something you don’t want to hear really, the evening went on and the same receptionist as before I asked for more tea bags and really felt like I was an issue to her I got a eye roll and mumble.

but things like asked for ketchup - didn’t arrive, 40 minute wait to take my sweet order, had to go to the bar to get it organised.

The steaks were replaced after a slight delay and as requested, the cost of drinks is very expensive - a double gin and lemonade cost just under £10.

We were then asked to pay the hotel D,B&B rate of £159

We didn't have our breakfast on the morning as the hotel as a whole absolutely smelled disgusting and we couldn't have sat there to eat.Upon checking out, the lad on reception never even asked how our stay was.

At least an apology was made and complementary drinks were brought to the room as requested.

We had sirloin steak which was not cooked  rare as requested & very tough.

Then she offered a room outside the hotel which was  absolutely awful and we refused .I asked to speak to the manager who was so  unhelpful and basically was not bothered or interested again blaming Expedia and gave no apology or showed any empathy for how we felt.

We’d requested a superior room with room for a child.

No offer of leaving luggage anywhere etc just a very unhelpful receptionist 

This gave us a problem as we had a booking at a restaurant we now wouldn’t make so we emailed abs moved the booking abs asked very unhelpful
Person  if she could book us a taxi.

but unfortunately we were never even asked if we'd had a pleasant stay or whether we needed anything further.

He was reluctant so we had to insist and asked second time.

but when you sit down for a pre dinner drink you don’t expect to have to search for a waiter ( under covid rules it should be table service) so search I did and when I found a waiter and asked for a wine menu I was told it’s over there….thank you very much, then when we had chosen the wine again I had to find the waiter to take the order. The dinner menu was nothing special ( beef burger in the restaurant !!!)

The hotel is definitely old and it is in need of repair in some areas BUT the rooms are clean beyond clean and the sheets and bedlinen are beautiful even in the older rooms.

Room was spotless & had plenty of toiletries & tea/coffee etc.

Room spotlessly clean, good size and very comfy.

Room was clean and warm and very welcoming.

The rooms were clean with beautiful toiletries and overall we enjoyed our meals which included Dinner, Breakfast & Afternoon Tea.

My advice to the owners of the hotel, send in a new manager who cares about their guests - build up a good reputation with clean rooms and trained and supervised staff.

Our room was clean ,plenty of space and quiet.

The rooms are clean and tidy with plenty of fresh bedding and towels lovely toiletries And a cooked breakfast was a treat!

The room was clean spacious and very comfortable .

Room was very clean and pleasant .no complaints at all .
