Breakfast was good  I recommend the eggs Benedict.

We booked a dine and stay break which included a 3 course dinner and breakfast with a double room in the main building.

The evening meal was excellent ( lots of choice, top quality ingredients and perfectly cooked).

Next morning we had a lovely breakfast and another visit to the spa which you must book prior I should mention.

This morning before breakfast we gave polite and fair feedback to the receptionist about our experience, which she apologised for.

Everything, including the bread rolls were home made and beautifully fresh.

I had roast chicken with stock pot risotto - delicious.

followed by a fondant chocolate of course and  sticky toffee pudding which i like cold with lashings of chocolate sauce and ice cream

breakfast usual cerals choice of juices  i opeted for the full english which was amazing hubby had eggs benedict which was two poached eggs with ham    on a muffin with hollandaise sauce

a  truly amazing experience will be back soon

For our 40th wedding anniversary, we had a dinner, bed and breakfast here.

Food in both the restaurant and at breakfast was generally good.

We had breakfast and dinner in the pannelled dining room and were superbly looked after by Daniel.

The lunch menu was really good value for money, great choice and all delicious, we tried across the menu between the four of us.

Dinner was as usual excellent and breakfast to.

but will not now return due to poor service and staff attitude.

but this was due to inconsiderate guests leaving towels on them while they spent 30mins in the hot tub.

The breakfast was not very varied and unfortunately quite unpleasant due to a cleanliness issue.

Decided to treat ourselves due to cancelled holiday abroad.

Things were a little different due to COVID

though the food was a splendid & staff service & courtesy was excellent I was extremely uncomfortable during table service due to the fact that social distancing cannot be observed when waiting on tables.

The pool area is due maintenance in March which is needed as part of the pool area appears to be starting to rust.

Due to small windows/opening sashes this must have been hot in the heat of the summer,

Unfortunately due to the inclement weather we were unable to explore the gardens(perhaps next time).

There is no lift due to the age of building and protection laws, so there are stairs to climb.

although due to the heat in the room the bathrobes weren't used.

but  were a bit late to relax round the pool after the hot tub due to children been allowed in the spa from 4pm and it was very noisy,  so we headed back to our room to relax.

The Coach House probably shouldn't accommodate both guests and wedding celebrations due to the noise and regardless the Holly room could do with some improvements (heating and space).

The wedding didn't go exactly to plan due to the registrar being delayed by an unexpected snow storm,

We returned to Headlam Hall for a Winter Warmer break plus an extra 25% off, due to work beng done in the main hall and out of bounds ( it's open now).

We stayed in the green room which is directly above the bar area in the main house and due to the thickness of walls and floors our room seemed completely soundproofed which was great.

On the day we where due to have the Jaguar we where shown around it I got into the car to start the engine and it would not start, where we disappointed.

At one point i stood at the bar area for about 15 mins and ended up leaving due to lack of service.

The food I had was very tasty and nothing is too much trouble for the staff .

We used to go to Headlam quite a lot for meals and family celebrations

We had a private room for Sunday lunch with patio doors opening onto the terrace .

The dinner was very good and was reasonable value in with the package.

Food was much better than expected, especially the evening dinner specials / pistachio cake and hake with crab sauce especially good!

The menu is inspired, delivering local fresh produce cooked to perfection and pairing flavour combinations a cocktail mixologist would be proud of.

We all had treatments and lunch included in the offer , the food was beautiful I had the beef and lemon tart and it was really nice 10/10 .

Dinner was very nice and all perfectly cooked, with sides included as part of main course and not an extra like some other inclusive menus.

But the best part for me was the food, it was amazing!

The room was lovely, the dinner was great and 9 holes on a super fun golf course.

We have visited many times and the restaurant just gets better and better.

The starters were varied and the desserts excellent.

Food was great.. definately compliments to the chef.. the fillet of beef was cooked and seasoned to perfection 5*

The room was also nice, no complaints there.

Everything from arriving on the grounds and being showed around the site to our room, the food, the staff and the rooms were just amazing!

The service was a bit slow at breakfast on our last day because of a wedding party staying there

Poor and slow service in the restaurant, very small portions, minimal choice on the menu.

The only quibble was that service was slow both in the evening and for breakfast,

The morning breakfast service was slow, there were a few orders, granted,

On the night we visited the restaurant which I was a little disapointed in as the service was very slow and the steak I had was very fatty.

2nd day breakfast was good, service was a little slow,

The whole set up was slow and disjointed.

Regardless of whether the admission time for kids was right or wrong for us to use the pool with the kids on the Sunday morning, the breakfast service was so slow and poor that we were left with no time to even look at it.

The bar service was slow at best, later on when the wedding party decamped into the hotel lounge it became raucous and unpleasant, with nowhere else to sit this is a big negative.

I rang down to the spa who told me I could collect some from there, the nice lady on reception said the laundry must have been slow today so it was only a small irrelevance.

Have also entertained large business groups for dinner, when food  is still very good, well prepared and hot even for parties of 12 or more, only downside is that service can be slow for large parties.

however, the breakfast was very disappointing, slow service, dry longlife 'fresh' croissants, watered down orange juice and a general shortage of much choice on the buffet.

it is quiet mansion changed to the hotel with very knowledgeable staff specially bartenders very helpful reception and great cook whole place make you travel back in time.

Comfortable sun lounges, very friendly staff.

The staff were amazing - nothing was too much trouble for them and the venue snd gardens were fantastic .

For me the two things that make Headlam Hall special are the location (in its extensive and immaculately kept gardens) and the staff ( from reception, to the cleaning staff, to the serving staff and bar staff)  - they are all so friendly and accommodating.

The staff were excellent and very accommodating.

Super friendly staff, lovely rooms, spa, restaurant and gardens.

Daniel and his entire team should be extremely proud of what they’ve achieved and I have no doubt that a highly successful and award winning future awaits them all.

I absolutely loved the treatments and found the therapist Rachel I think her name was so friendly and really knowledgable.

Staff were all brilliant; friendly and helpful from the first to the last.

In the restaurant on the evening it was a beautiful setting with really friendly staff, and very attentive.

I booked to play 9 holes and the friendly Pro shop team of Darren, Shirley and Lucy couldn’t have been more helpful.

The customer service from all staff is second to none.

My compliments go to the Chef and his staff.

but he really enjoyed it , delicious puddings of sticky toffee pudding and bakewell tart followed  all delivered by friendly and efficient staff.

I can't speak too highly about this hotel and in particular the staff, the service, helpfulness and politeness are a credit to the hotel.

I am a member here and always am welcomed and treated so well--the spa staff ( Rachel) is amazing and i use this as a therapeutic break--the staff overall are helpful and very attentive --Main restaurant food is special -the atmosphere clean environment and grounds are magical

The house has some amazing history, some of which can be seen and read on the walls.

The room was also subject to a lot of noise; the walls appeared thin between us and next door - we could hear talking and use of the facilities (!

The walls are thin, which is fine and not uncommon at hotels,

But the walls are very thin and you can hear everything that is happening in the rooms next door and above.

but inside the old house with its 60cm thick stone walls phone reception is variable.

The bathroom mirror was mounted an inch or so from the wall and while enduring a shower I was able to admire the delicate layers of dusty cobwebs behind said mirror.

Headlam gardeners make sure that every inch of the extensive grounds and golf course are perfect; from the red, orange and green leaves that climb up the walls of the 17th Century Hall in autumn, to the formal gardens that are ablaze with colour in the summer.

The bath was old, there was a terrible wall hairdryer, there was mold on the ceiling and windows, cobwebs on the ceiling, cracks in the paint and hardly any room for the toilet.

The bathroom was even more dated - a useless old fashioned wall fixed hairdrier, mould on the tiles.

The gardens are beautiful and are enclosed by an old stone wall and hedges.

The shower was a trickle of water prone to violent fluctuations in temperature while the bathroom tiles - floor and wall - were in urgent need of replacement.

A wall mounted electric shower is what i would expect in a seaside guest house, not a luxury Hotel.

There were black marks along a lot of the walls around the bathroom door, wardrobes etc some of which you could tell were from suitcase marks and others - I am not sure how they got there!

The hair dryer attached to the wall looked liked something from the 70's.

The bathroom was also a little dated and the electric wall shower was a disappointing dribble.

The floors were creaky and the walls were very thin.

but I somehow doubt it, it was filthy,  Black dusty cobwebs hung from the wall lights, walls and behind the bathroom door.

Highly recommend Gilroys restaurant (on site), we had an incredible evening meal and the breakfast was also amazing, really good quality local produce well cooked and expertly kept warm.

I'd of given this place a one or zero if not for the delicious breakfast the following day served by excellent and attentive staff.

As for the 'bread' that it was served with - well it was so crunchy it was inedible.

She was rude and bad customer care from Adrian the positives of the stay was dawn on breakfast made us feel super welcome and very efficient, the hotel it’s self holds so much history and lovely in its own way, we will return

Breakfast: ordered eggs royale, description on menu smoked salmon with poached eggs, when it came it was bacon, no explanation given, luckily I eat bacon

Evening meal: there was a group of us, it was a set menu for us with a choice of 3 or 4 starters, mains and desserts.

The breakfast was delicious with a huge range to choose from, much to our 5 year olds delight!

Breakfast was buffet style with drinks and toast served to you.

We found the staff very friendly and attentive and would single out a few for special mention - Dawn who was on breakfast duty and always had a smile, Alex who was on reception duty who was so helpful and gave us some great suggestions to visit and Adam who seemed to be involved in everything and was always pleasant.

The breakfast is typical of this style of hotel.

The food was excellent, we both had brilliant evening meals and first rate breakfasts.

although for both breakfast and dinner, we did feel ignored for a while and then urged to get the bill at the end - again just didn't have a great feel service wise.

but gorgeous, sticky toffee pudding and duck egg tart, all lovely.

We stayed at the hotel for one night on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis.

Very accessible off the A30, free car parking.

2nd year staying here for the Italian Car Day at nearby Raby Castle.

After the first evening we used the car to go back and forth to the hotel..

The staff did everything they could to resolve this, including providing us with a better room and later sorted out an arrangement where I could charge the electric car - thanks to Mark the manager.

Our first night was disturbed from a staff member shouting outside the window then chatting with a car engine running which triggered the security lights and lit our room up for the next 5 mins.

The hotel is an impressive Georgian style building with car parking right outside.

Travelling to the Morrit was very easy by car with ample parking.

but carpet smells of stale beer which you can smell as soon as you walk in.

We tried to check into the hotel at 2.30pm and were basically told to go away until 3pm, when we did get in the room it was a big disappointment, dirty carpet, peeling paint, rotten windows and the most uncomfortable bed with a thin old mattress.

Carpet badly soiled and desperately in need of cleaning or renewal.

Our room was disgusting, to the point where we never used the shower, the bed was wonky, full of dust, carpets dirty, paint work dirty and chipped.

Countless cobwebs, dust on all skirting boards, filth on window frames, dirty carpet, damp patch on ceiling and worst of all - broken ceramic tiles on bathroom floor which could draw blood if not careful.

The carpet was dirty and stained, the door was difficult to shut.

The carpet wasn't hoovered and there were cobwebs in each corner.

A few issues with the room firstly cleanliness - very dusty, carpets had clearly not been hoovered and the bathroom had a lot of mildew.

The loo was filthy and the features were missing compared to the picture displayed on their website again,  did not match with furniture missing and cheap dirty carpet.

The room was dirty - shower was covered in mildew, and carpets filthy.

Filthy carpets, tiles, flimsy rubbish curtains, Window painted shut, bed from circa 1902 just disgusting 

Breakfast staff worked very hard indeed

We stayed in the small double- it was dated, the carpets looked as if they had never been hoovered, the shower was filthy, and the windows were covered in what I assume was brown grease.

Dust on every surface, stained sofa so bad we couldn't sit on it, black gunge pouring out of shower, stained cushions, carpets not hoovered.

The bar area looked shabby, and carpets were tired.

It was outdated, with dirty carpets and no curtain in the bathroom.

Room 042 needs some TLC heavily stained carpet and repairs to bathroom required.

For breakfast on the first morning we were shown to the bar as we had dogs and everyone else had breakfast in the restaurant which made us feel a bit pushed out.

Front of house training required reallu sorry because we have wanted to visit for sometime but dont think we will be back.

although the bacon was cold and not would be expected of a 4 star hotel..We were compensated when we checked out which we were more than happy with.

We had to wait for some of the items to be refilled (sausages, bacon) and when they did arrive they were cold.

Even in the daytime it had a very cold feel to it throughout the downstairs rooms.

although we were a bit cold, so we opted to go into the bar.

and took so long to arrive that the toast was cold and soggy.

The Lounge already suffers from the decision to take out the real fire and it was cold and drab.

Vegetables undercooked - broccoli almost raw and cold when brought out.

The room was cold even with the Radiator set on full, and I was woken up by the thundering traffic at about 6.15am, maybe secondary glazing may help with both issue’s?

When we did ask, we had to remind again ten minutes later by which point some of the meals were cold.

but my veg was slightly cold and I wish there was slightly more on my plate for the price but other than that it was perfect.

Breakfast - rock hard bacon, cold poached egg, cold tomato and very fatty mushroom.

Breakfast cold, toast if you could call it that more like warm bread.

Beans came out stone cold on a very hot plate, hash browns cold, soggy and what seemed a thicker version of a mcdonalds hash brown.

Booked the Morritt for a single night break for family as we travelled north.

I stayed here recently for 2 nights as part of a driving holiday touring Yorkshire

On a positive note this hotel is a lovely building, set in a lovely area and ideal for exploring Yorkshire.

Stopped here on the way to the lakes, for some lunch and to break up the drive.

although the rate we booked through my hotel break was £150.

We stayed for a one night family break &  found the hotel to be lovely.

We have enjoyed a recent 2 day Spa Break in this lovely hotel.

We booked 2 rooms for 4 friends on a spa break deal.Both rooms were clean and pleasant,beautiful toiletries provided.The treatments were excellent in the spa and our only criticism was the odd afternoon tea which came with abundant pastries and frozen mini magnums !

Stayed at the Moritt as we were attending a wedding there .Lovely hotel if you want a nice relaxing break

We were very lucky with the weather, after breakfast we had a lovely walk along the river before carrying on with our holiday.

Arrived around 1600 midweek business break , check in was pleasant and advised on all the amenities 

Location was great just on a side not traffic can be heard 

Allocated room on top floor overlooking extensive gardens 

Room was quaint with great newly refitted bathroom 

Tea coffee and freeview 

Dined in the bistro excellent choice of menu , service made you feel at home 

Skipped breakfast due to early meeting

I wouldn't hesitate to book this hotel for a group celebration again and I'll certainly return with my husband for a romantic break.

Overall, great experience and one of the best spa breaks in the UK ive been to.

My wife and I decided to break up a journey to Cumbria with a spa visit and overnight stay.

This was a lovely place to stay to break up a long journey and very convenient for the A66 and Barnard’s Castle.

The perfect place to break our journey up to Scotland.

I booked this hotel for a midweek break to explore Durham, and was very attracted by it’s promise of luxury and old world charm.

Staff also need to go round tidying up after lazy customers as there were 4 plastic  cups on the salt room floor.

we had dirty cups left, beds not properly made and missing drink packets.

However, on walking around the room with the hairdryer to find a plug with a mirror, we had to settle on unplugging the kettle, opening the bathroom door and turning the shaving mirror right round!!

Often stopped en route for breakfast ,lunch or dinner.Today stopped at 8.30am for breakfast(Having bypassed several outlets)

There are a few areas we would suggest improving for a deluxe room such as general cleanliness, the shower had mildew, dusty shelves and the kettle lead didn't reach the table from the plug socket and had to go on the floor.

We also had to wait for a pot of coffee. The waiting staff seemed very young & inexperienced (cheap labour ?)

The kettle had to be out on the floor as there was no plug socket near the table.

You are served with your own pot of tea or coffee.

The radiator was stuck on the on position, we tried every setting, it was NOT switching off, this made for a very hot night in an already claustrophobic room.

Kitchen staff were isolating at the time of our visit which was annoying

Not even a tray for the cups, just all the sugar and sachets stuffed into the cups.

but the bathroom was vey tiered looking, and a constant hum all night , I think from the freezers below.

I asked about the cream tea told to come back to reception at 5.00 told then we should have book and there was no teas left and given a cup of coffee.

Small things let the hotel down - no teabags or milk in the room, nowhere to plug the kettle in.

The evening meal wasn't pleasant the Feta and caramelised onion tartlet and sticky toffee pudding had clearly been warmed in the microwave!

It was outside the hotel, a smelly and dirty carpet on the floor, no fridge, a room that smelled very musty and for a lot of money. Shameful

We weren’t told until over an hour after we had ordered our food that it hadn’t been passed to the kitchen.

The only minor blip with our room is that it is over the kitchen which had us experiencing kitchen tidying up noises until 11.00pm.

Teas and coffee not refreshed each day and dirty cups and spoons left in room.

The surrounding area has fabulous countryside, lovely quaint villages  and lots of really interesting places to visit/things to do including cycling on  quiet rural roads with some cracking climbs nearby.

This then added to the noise from the nearby A66 which we could see from our window.

The local walks were amazing and nearby pubs were open for food.

One reason being that we wanted to visit the Bowes museum nearby.

All in all, the hotel provides very good value for money and I would recommend it whether you plan to use it as a base for exploring the wonderful countryside and the fine nearby towns, Richmond, Northallerton and Barnard Castle, or simply passing through on your journey.

The Bowes Museum in nearby Barnard Castle was one of the highlights of our trip, as was visiting the market town of Richmond.

Plenty of places to walk and interesting places nearby to visit.

My wife and I stayed here 2 nights (16-18 May 2017) while visiting family in the nearby countryside.

Charles Dickens wrote a couple of books about this area and is rumoured to have stayed in the hotel or nearby.

I took my bike (keen cyclist and lots of hills nearby) and it was no problem keeping it in my room which is a huge plus for me.
