We checked out on a Monday and at 10 AM there was a knock on our door.

Oddly, we did receive a loud knock on the door at 10 am announcing house-keeping despite having a check-out time just two hours later (never experienced that before).

but the walls seemed very thin, and the room doors slam very loudly.

I could hear something slamming the door over and over,

and under the door of the connecting room.

but why not in the room and Not in the hallway in front of other guests door???

but every time a door is closed, the place shakes.

Tile floor cracked and shower door off the hinges.

Open the door to the Room our shoes stuck to the tile in the entry and the bathroom to the point I had to take a washcloth and clean all of it twice just to get it to not stick.

Too many rude people talking in the hall after hours and slamming doors.

The one and only criticism is that the track space between shower doors and bottom edges of the shower doors should be cleaner.

Well at 9 am we got a knock on the door from housekeeping.

The grout in the tile by the front door and in the bathroom was black or gray, the shower had mold and rust in it, the paint on the bathroom ceiling was puckering and the sprinkler head had rust on it, the carpeting was unraveling where it met the tile, and the upholstered bench by the bed was stained.

Chelsey could have easily told my husband "we don't do anything" or write short note and slipped it under more door.

The facility shows some signs of use and age (door bottoms and frames beginning to rust, peel; loose faucet tap in the bathtub),

One night, the room next door to us was having a loud, late party - I called the front desk, security quietly handled it and we were able to go to sleep.

We never heard doors slamming, people talking or any noise coming from the street unlike in many other hotels we recentry stayed at.

although we arrived at 2am and the doors were locked, someone was waiting to check us in.

When asked, my sister mentioned this was our 9th annual birthday trip and after we got to our room and settled in, there was a knock on the door and Ryan and Ethan had surprised us birthday gift bags of munchies, with birthday cards and coupons to use at the little store by the front desk.

I travel for business and stay at hotels frequently, and this place is particularly friendly.

Staff were informative and friendly, house keeping was still cleaning neighboring rooms and helped us with extra linens and towels since we had a party of 5.

The hotel is clearly taking covid-19 precautions seriously, requiring masks in public areas, offering free masks to guests, restricting elevators to 1 guest/family at a time, and so on.

When we had some issues with the elevators we were told half scolded that it was only because the hotel is a "green" hotel so that's why the key/elevator problem occurred.

Also - elevator was so small and could only hold maybe 6 at a time - generously.

However, the key system one uses to go on the elevator leaves much to be desired.

Was just the lift I needed after two flight delays.

We did also experience some interesting dogs in the halls and elevators, making it whimsical too.

We were surprised when we got up there and realized they put us in a room right across from the ice machine and right by the elevators.

So much for Gold Elite status -  I got the crappy room right off the elevator and garbage noise.

Terrible smells throughout elevators, lobby and halls.

The hotel staff was ineffective at controlling both the crowds at the 9th floor elevator, and drunk hotel guests who yelled to each other, chattered and laughed in the hallway after the garden closed, until at least 1:30 a.m.

Our reservation was quickly confirmed and we were headed to the elevator in a matter of moments.

With that done and feeling better about stay, we took the elevator up to the 8th floor, into a hallway that was soothing and colorful.

The elevators are old, small, and sketchy.

Pet friendly, I never heard barking unless we were waiting for the elevator.

Aside from a slight lift issue for one of our guests in a wheelchair.

Although the elevators aren't huge, the staff placed a bartender with a small efficient cart in one elevator with free drinks for guests.

I am a smoker and the rooftop deck was closed so myself and another guy in the elevator had to go out front.

Staff were really friendly and immediately set out the tier benefits available to us.

From the friendly service to the amazing and eclectic fit-out to the welcoming happy hour to top notch hairdryers in the rooms, this was a great stay.

Our room on the tenth floor was great and we never had to wait long for an elevator.

There was a janitor in the elevator cleaning and wouldn't let anyone get on.

but unproductive, slow elevators, restaurant understaffed, continental breakfast on 14th floor under stocked, rooms spacious but lacking amenities like stationary, furniture… pillow cases with stains, sheets with holes.

Located near an elevator and ice machine so could hear other guests.

Also as a result, there has always been crazy long waits for the elevator in the lobby.

We took the elevator to the mezzanine to wait as the lobby and bar were jammed with wedding guests.

We got a room near the elevator and you hear it everytime it stops on our floor.

Once we settled in for the night all I could hear was the bong of the elevator ALL NIGHT LONG, I called down, I was told they couldn't move us.

but was tipped off when we had to scan our door key in the elevator to access our floor.

Elevators are rather small, can definitely feel cramped with more than a few couples in one at a time.

but the elevator situation is a bit of a nightmare.

The elevator is notoriously slow, so give yourself extra time, or hit the stairs and walk off the pierogis.

The downsides were that the elevator was always slow and full, for a while during the busiest part of the day only one of three was even operating, and the beds and linens were tired, a generation older than the ones we enjoyed at the Residence Inn and Westin the nights previously.

It looked like one of the elevators was not working so maybe this was a temporary problem.

Negatives:
1) Elevator system is undergoing significant renovations, which means only 2 of the 3 elevators are working.

Because of this, the elevators were slow (only 2/3 elevators were working -- not sure why).

They need to do something about the elevators though.

As you are greeted by the friendly valet, who always opens the doors for you, you’ll see the cast aluminum dragons that welcome you to The Renaissance, known to be protectors of the structure and all of it’s guests.

Mason checked us in and he was outgoing and very friendly.

The hotel itself was clean (not modern) and the staff was very pleasant.

Our group had drinks at Braddock's, dined several mornings in the dining room (although the service was slow, we understand many places still have staffing issues; the food was very good), and the front desk and barista were always cheerful and accommodating.

The bed is either stained or unwashed, and the heat/AC unit is super dusty… it sounds like they’re getting a Reno soon, and I’m guessing they’ve just stopped keeping up with things.

Only complaints are the compressor on the heater/air conditioner is so loud it drowned out the fire station that is 1/2 a block away and went out 4 times so no sleep and at 3 A.M. husband shut the whole unit down and yes it got cold in the room and the pillows had clean cases on them

the room was dirty, the air filter in the air con was black with dirt.

The only issue was that the AC/heater unit for our room was loud.

The air conditioner was loud and old looking.

- Ventilation is through older window-style units, so the fan, even for heat, is loud.

But we can not sleep because the noise from the HVAC was loud all night.

The heat or air has a thermostat that is programmable on the wall.

Heater/AC unit was very loud and the pillows were flat.

The sound from the heating system caused a restless night.

If we could of put the fan on independent of the heater it may have helped.

but it seemed to be coming in through the vent.

Still, our unit didn't work no matter what.

though the bathroom could definitely use a fan (walls and mirror quickly got damp during a shower).

but my wife wasn't a huge fan of the oatmeal or pastries.

Not enough towels per bed, not enough coffee kcups per person, multiple outlets don't work in room, bathtub doesn't drain during/after a shower, bathroom door swings shut automatically and no fan so no way to air out after shower and mirror is still fogged an hour later.

The carpeting had an awful and dated floral design and the HVAC was noisy-

but the rooms were nice enough and the staff was very friendly.

I have an issue with parking cost at this property, $40 per night for valet.

There is no parking at the hotel except valet parking for $40/night.

The $40 per day parking is way too expensive.

Nothing is included in the price, including the $25 a night parking.

Only fault, we had an suv and had to walk back and forth thru an alley to a back parking lot … at $25 per day!

There is no self parking in the hotel garage,

However, the valet parking caused long, long waits coming and going for many guests.

Parked at Hilton Garden Inn Pittsburgh University Place and our car was returned damaged.

Only have valet parking and it is terrible when someone in from of you is unloading a van.

They do only have valet parking which is $25 a night.

While parking wasn't free there is a parking garage one block down.

Initial parking was a bit confusing, as was the notice that I would be charged $20 for valet parking,

The parking is quite expensive and valet is only option.

although a little scary with the steep angle for parking for drop off & pick up.

The parking is difficult and they charge 12.50$ for breakfast.
