The front end staff was just amazing :) the location is perfect as well with beautiful views of the harbour.

got to stay on 14th floor, view over the harbour was amazing, felt a very warm welcome from Erin and also the security guard who watched over our stuff while we got to check out and learn about the actual bastion itself.

We like the ideal location, the rooms are good, the view of the harbour and Newcastle Island is pleasant, the front-desk people are friendly, and the hotel was quiet.

Only downside is many homeless people around begging and felt unsafe leaving our car parked.

I had to get my car serviced in Nanaimo which is a two hour drive from my home.

There is an additional $9 charge per 24 hours to park your car, and it's in a public parkade, so is not secure.

Once registered they figured out payment and hubby went to place the ticket on the car and found an easier way back!

2nd time our car was broken into and EVERYTHING stolen.

Car parking is 'down the street' in a parkade (cost $10)  so it's a bit of a trek the to the car if you have a lot of bags.

Parking is $9 for 24 hours and it’s a city owned parkade and there are notices everywhere about not leaving any valuables in your car.

Only rated as 4 rather than 5 as have to pay $9 a night for parking in nearby underground car park

I decided not to rent a car and cancel my rental reservation at the last minute and I was so happy I did!!

The front desk warned not leave anything visible inside the car.

but if you don't have a car it means walking back with heavy bags.

Check-in was simple with the ability to leave the car out the front while getting luggage to the rooms, and then parking was also very simple just around the corner to the parking garage which had a connecting elevator and entry to the hotel.

Although you can get into the hotel from the car park spaces are difficult to find when the theatre is open.

You do have to pay to park the car in the underground carpark round the corner from the main entrance

We parked when we arrived and did not need our car until we left.

but it is valid for 24 hrs so even after check out you can park your car till the pass expires.

Last minute overnight planned because of an issue with our car.

My only slightly negative comment would be that $9 a day seems a bit steep for parking our car in a more empty than full parking are under the hotel.

There was no drinking water (they don't provide bottled water) which means the water you do drink has to come from the bathroom tap or paid for from a vending machine.

but I would recommend not having a room near the ice machine as it could be noisy.

but being near the ice machine might be a bit noisy.

There was no indication (verbal or written down anywhere) of where the ice machine was - I feel like this is important to mention if you are not going to offer a fridge in the room.

The ice machine did not work on our floor (8th).

The room was on the fifth floor, no fridge, ice machine was one floor down,

They put my room right beside the Ice machine and elevator which also kept me awake.

Housekeeping could have been better, we had no cups to use with the coffee machine, and there were a couple of hairs lurking in the bathroom.

The only things that could have been better would be having ice machines on every floor and the hallways need updating to match the rooms and lobby.

There are 2 vending machines, one on our level (floor 12) and one on floor 3.

but a bit of an after thought- older machines and only one treadmill to choose from.

Parking is an extra $10 charge,  which seems to be fairly common now with hotels,   BUT if the same 24 hr ticket is purchased at the machine downstairs in the parkade it is only $9 (??)

but I HATE A/C MACHINES THAT FIGHT CONTINUOUSLY FROM A HEATING CYCLE TO A COOLING CYCLE.

I was next to the ice machine and my patio opened up above all the A/C units.

Our room don't have a fridge and the ice machine is on the 6,7,8 floor.

but an ice machine outside (oh, noisy one, but luckily could not hear it in the room).

After sending 2 emails which were not replied to, I had to call the hotel.

At that point my husband overheard a call from the plumber to Ian, where it was clear they didn’t know when it would be finished.

No one bothered to call or knock on our door to check out.

There were people partying on my floor until 12:30 and when I picked up the phone to call front desk, the phone didn't even work.I was then woken up at 6 a.m by yapping dogs.

You can hear everything in the rooms next to you (conversations, TV, phones etc) The outside noise makes it seem like a window is oopen all the time.

They said they would look for it and call me back.

And I didn’t call down about the TV guide not working it just told me what channel it was on not the program that was on so I had to flip

My only complaint is that I tried to order room service from Minnoz and they wouldn't answer the phone.

even though I had documentation dated April 11 2018 that my room was booked for 3 nights.I then spent anxious time on the phone with the organization, and then with the hotel location to reconfirm 3 nights stay.Beds in the rooms were very small,(twin/double).I got to see many rooms as many family members were staying in the hotel, bed sizes were small in all the rooms.

After some discussion and the bride calling down they said they had found a room for us

The hotel has a Conference Room for that Corporate team building experience (maybe a good time to re-watch Glen Garry, Glen Ross) as well as a Business Center (which is basically a computer to download a boarding pass if you can't figure out how to do that on your phone yet).

While on the phone with me she secured the room for my family and sent me an e-mail confirmation.

Best Western had the worst service possible, very rude, bedding very dirty, no heat in the room (apparently it was shut off), phone not hooked up, and towels not provided.

but the staff over the phone and in person were marvelous.

From the order on the phone to the delivery itself the lady was rude and appeared like she'd rather be anywhere else

I was asked if I wanted to leave a message and I replied no I prefer he call me.

The hotel is very clean and before I left, I asked if they find my cell charger to phone me.

Now I have a "post-retirement" role which calls for me to visit Nanaimo once in a while.

.. After having a spa and dinner there, we found out that my wife's hair product had leaked into her clothes, I called down to the front desk, the gentleman on the phone said it would be no problem and came up to grab them promptly, after like an hour he was back at the door with laundered clean clothes!!..

In the middle of the night something went wrong and we ended up having to call an ambulance to rush me back to the hospital and my mom had to extend her stay an extra five days.

Room was good views great overlooking water.

Despite it's lovely view, the rooms need an upgrade as does the main lobby.

Great room - king sized bed, large room, clean, well equipped and excellent view.

I was given a nice room with a view on the top floor.

even though we had a corner room out of the way.

The room was clean, quiet, and had a really nice view.

We had 2 rooms and it was interconnecting.

The room was nice and the staff was very helpful.

We stayed in the room with the Jetted tub and it was a great room for couples.

We had 2 rooms, with 2 separate requests, and they knew to keep us close.

Will definitely stay again because of the staff.

There was a little bit of confusion upon check in check in that wasn't the fault of the front desk desk (central booking error-long story) and things were sorted out quickly.

Staff uniformly friendly and helpful, especially cleaning lady.

rewards dollars for a 61-night stay,  I was contacted by the rewards program staff yesterday and informed that I actually had nearly $2000 in rewards!!

From the front staff, to the restaurant, we enjoyed our visit very much.

Friendly staff greet you, hotel is at the waterfront and parking is confusing when you first arrive.

The staff at check-in was warm and helpful.

Front Desk staff were excellent and friendly.

Jane at the front desk was especially nice.

They were compassionate and respectful towards what was going on.

However, the staff treated us well and the view is beautiful.

From calling prior to check in to check out every member of the Bastion staff could not have been any more pleasant.

The room they put us in had same air conditioning issue.

From air conditioning issues in two rooms that we where put in, to holes in the sheets and mold in the bar fridge.

The AC is kinda weak if you coming during the summer.

The creamers in the fridge had gone off and the air conditioning stopped working.

The AC didn't work well, we woke up drenched in sweat.

The room air conditioning is also a joke at best.

The air con is really old, despite new timers.

There is a small fridge in the room as well as a coffee machine and a water heater.

Airconditioning was inefficient, one of the beds had spring protruding.

One thing that is certainly dated is no charging stations for electronics so don't forget your AC charging block!

First night thought it may have been the vents

The HVAC unit turned itself on an off every 10-15 minutes all night.

The fan rattled all night and kept us awake and the ice machine was broken, difficult for birthday drinks.

There also wasn't anyone circulating around to see if everyone was following COVID safety protocols.

however the air conditioning unit was not working and when maintenance came to fix it we were advised by maintenance that there has been ongoing issues with that unit air conditioner in that room.

- the room was extremely overpriced for the size and for the quality- it is dated, the bed and pillows were uncomfortable, the bathroom was dirty (mold in shower/dirty mirrors), and the airconditioning was old, clunky and loud.

Professional staff, great service, great location and a room with a fantastic harbour view.

Our room was spacious and adequate and had a superb harbour view.

The problem was that we didn't want a Bay view; we specifically booked that Harbour View so we could see the cruise ships docked at Canada Place.

We had a beautiful view of the harbour from our room.

It has a nice view of the pier with the bar and restaurant.

Pool was beautiful as well with views of the harbour and I was lucky to be there on an evening with Fireworks!

Our room was large, clean and comfortable overlooking the harbour with views of seaplanes and cruises leaving port.

Masterful views of the bay, the mountains and the downtown.

I chose a gorgeous panoramic harbour view room for our 2-day stay, which was beautiful.

It's location is impeccable with stellar views of the city's  harbor, Coastal Mountains, Stanley Park, the City skyline and all the primo sights.

The inroom breakfast when we were in isolation was fabulous, heightened by the glorious views across the harbour to Stanley park and North Vancouver.

but the views from the Harbour view rooms are breathtaking!!!

I had a harbour facing view on the 16th floor with a spectacular view.

We stayed for four nights of our honeymoon and were lucky enough to get a room on the 20th floor with amazing views of the harbour (even from the bathroom!) We loved watching the seaplanes land and take off (recommend having a tour in one if you can!)

Negatives overpriced for what services and facilities are on offer, no daily housekeeping only every 3 days if you ask for it?

It was very frustrating to pay that amount of money and not receive any daily housekeeping services.

No maid service, 999  restaurant closed 2 of 3 days, no real gift shop, etc.

No housekeeping service - even when I asked to have my room refreshed.

There was no breakfast, no free coffee in public spaces, everything had a cost attached AND they only clean the room if you stay 4 nights or longer.

On check in we were advised that housekeeping would not be provided daily.

but who needs room cleaning over just 3 days?

When we tried to call housekeeping, both room phones were not working.

(Mind you, this was at 6pm on a day when the hotel was fully booked, so the cleaning delay didn't really make any sense.) After 90 minutes of waiting, we finally checked at the front desk and were dismissively told "we must have been too busy to call you."

Housekeeping service has not returned to everyday

They don’t clean the rooms—you practically have to beg them just to get clean towels.

The lack of housekeeping services during a 5 day stay was very unsettling.

After a day trip came back to find room had not been cleaned and none of our group on the tour with us had there's cleaned.

We feel like it was a bait and switch situation as when we checked in we were informed that there would be no housekeeping.

At the day 4th, no one show up to clean my room,  I’ve calledx several times and I was told that the room was going to be cleaned between 230pm and 630 pm.

but it also wasn't cleaned properly before our stay.

There was no housekeeping (lack of personnel)……So no towels change, no beds made etc….but we paid the full monty!

And the promise of housekeeping on one day to find that in fact there was no housekeeping scheduled.

We had to extend our stay due to Covid19 which was handled sensitively especially by housekeeping.

Spacious rooms, comfortable beds, location and most of the staff.

We chose this hotel because of it’s location right next to the cruise port.

The only positive is location, location, location.

The hotel is in a great location, staff were very friendly and helpful.

but, as I do like the location, very convenient for my type of work, I’ve decided to give another chance.

Keep in mind that hotel parking is VERY EXPENSIVE!

Parking is much cheaper if you pay the garage directly rather than add to your hotel charge (assuming you aren't coming and going frequently).

Parking was a bit pricey and not easy to navigate.

Parking is pricey at $50/day, better to go with the parking lot rate.

The only real downside was the obscene cost for parking in the attached garage.

If there was one downside I would say that it would be the expensive parking during the high-season.

It would be nice if they could include parking in the cost of the hotel.

Parking was a ridiculous $50 for self parking and $55 for valet - and we come from a city that's known to have ridiculous downtown parking rates so our bar was already high. We often stay in upscale chains that give you a free bottle of water (or two!)

Great choice of restaurants within the property for both happy hour and breakfast/ dinner.

We only ate once in the lobby bar and the meal  was delicious.

The free shuttles to Grouse Mountain and Capilano are right outside the front doors as well and if you need a great meal, Riley's Fish and Steak just opened across the street.

but the restaurant was still able to accommodate us just not our requested view seating.

Amazing harbour view from our room, the food is excellent and customer service exceeded our expectations, we enjoyed our stay.

The food at the restaurants hit the spot, especially Five Sails.

The breakfast buffet in the hotel restaurant is terrific and highly recommended.

Most of the food we had was warm at best and much of it looked petrified as it had been sitting there so long.

Oh, and we weren't allowed into the top floor restaurant (incredible view, I went in anyway for a couple minutes), only the high rollers.
