Breakfast is wonderful, as is Mel’s coffee.

Breakfast, freshly cooked to order is divine, tables set out on a communal basis which gives the opportunity to share travel stories from around the world.

The breakfast was utterly delicious and Mel’s cake was divine.

Mel is a wonderful breakfast chef and makes you feel at home.

I really appreciate the personal touches - from the delicious snacks (the choco chip cookies were out of this world) provided around the clock to  the emphasis on the guests eating together every morning at breakfast (which is also delicious).

Mel (with Mark's assistance when he is available) prepares a delicious made to order breakfast and adds some great conversation; plus Mel provides snacks, homemade cookies, teas and coffee, and an honor bar throughout the day.

She also makes an awesome cooked breakfast.

The breakfast she prepared each day was wonderful and she went out of her way to cover anything we needed.

It was the little things that mattered, the home baking on arrival, the message before we got there re our ETA, ensuring we had everything we needed, the cooked breakfast, the works.

Beautifully presented rooms, picturesque views, delicious home cooked breakfast coupled with very welcoming and friendly hosts in Mel and Mark made for a great experience and most enjoyable stop over for our drive from Queenstown to Christchurch.

Its hosts Mel and Mark make you feel as if they’re family and are most accommodating in your needs both in the room and at breakfast.

Breakfast in the morning was amazing-cooked to order by Mel and delicious.

So we let her know we could change rooms the following night as well if needed.

We couldn't change our room because of this as it was fully occupied.

The only caution I have is to be careful with your key - we came very close to locking ourselves out because once the door shuts it locks - a bit dangerous!

The lack of air conditioning is a bit of an issue on warmer evenings as the windows don't have screens on them to keep the mozzies out - this is the main reason for 3 stars.

With our summer stay, an air conditioner would have been nice

but no fan, wifi poor,  banquet even meal failed to deliver.

The heater is quite small for the room size so it never got that toasty in the room,

With threadbare carpets, aging furniture and outdated heating, the Mackenzie Country Inn is more like a rundown Holiday Inn than the image of a quaint, rural B&B that the name conjures.

but no air conditioning (and is probably not usually needed).

There was no air conditioning or ceiling fan so it was very uncomfortable.

Hotel was quite basic- no air conditioning and breakfast was a let down.

This place could use some updating as they still use metal keys and there is no air conditioning or elevator,

There is no fans and limited fresh air and we would not stay in summer as it would be so hot without air con.

By the dryness of my chicken it had been under a heating element for some time.

Our room was cold - despite having the heater going on full the whole time.

My only gripe is that the heater in the room was super loud kept making noises so we couldn't have it on over night which resulted in a cold room.

but there was still an irritating humming noise all night long, presumably from the air conditioning unit downstairs.

When we had a shower the bathroom drain overflowed onto the bathroom floor.

but there are electric blankets on the bed and fan heater in bathroom.

After entering the deluxe room and putting our bags away when found there was no shower curtain in the bathroom, which we requested.

but the furniture and bathroom were tired and in need of updating.

The water pressure in the shower is almost non-existent and the ‘warning’ about limited water is alarming as the first 5 minutes are used waiting for the water to warm up!

Like glass in the toilet or liquid soap, feeds like 1980 in Russia.

Very very very outdated place where the rooms are almost clean and the bathrooms are like 1950s US hospitals complete with little or no hot water.

There was a nasty stain on the ceiling and the bathroom was shabby.

Basic kitchenette with tea and coffee facilities only and it's quite a challenge to fill the jug in the bathroom sink.

There are two food markets less than one click away, the hot stays hot if showering less than than an hour, and there are several places to eat in the small town.

although bathroom need some work,  and warmer need some work too.

I couldn't fit the jug under the tap in the bathroom.

Even ignoring that the room had clearly had no upgrades since 1985 and that no free wifi was included, the final straw was that the shower was barely more than an intermittent trickle down the wall.

This ‘buffet’ didn’t even have muffins or pastries.

The buffet evening meal and buffet breakfast, included in the tour, were OK.

Excellent Buffet resturant with roasts, Salads and Veges for $40NZD PP very good meal and nice surroundings.

They refused to serve ice cream with the sweet, breakfast was ok

She offered us $NZ60 in all so we could walk 10 minutes into town each morning to get breakfast at the very good Hydro cafe.

The buffet breakfast was good value and well catered for, with plenty to choose from.

Breakfast was buffet style, catering for both Eastern and Western tastes and was very enjoyable.

The staff were also really friendly and the breakfast we had in the morning was very good and highly recommended.

The buffet in the restaurant is first class, the staff work really hard to keep everything fresh and available.

Additionally, we were provided with a large and varied selection of food for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

After watching people actually pick up food with their hands from the buffet we opted for the menu.

For an extra 20$ we got a breakfast buffet.

The hotel room was on the first floor and was large with two double beds and two stylish lounge chairs, a small balcony also with two chairs. The hotel was a little dated (1990s?)

Reception was not open and all exterior and interior doors were locked.

The lobby and the bar area needs refurbishment, including all the worn out carpets.

I would also like to suggest they refurnish each room as the furniture are super old and my husband said “it looks like a scene from a horror movie”.

but the carpets were worn, the rooms ceiling had paint flaking and generally, it was just showing it’s age.

Minus 1 star because there was a (for lack of better words) creepy vibe to the hotel and town in general.

When meal it arrived was very nice and the surroundings were as they were some 20 years ago, we did not worry that it took a while to get our meal as the entertainment was very funny.

Although the common areas of this hotel looked as if they'd been updated recently and were quite pleasant our room was very dated.

The Mackenzie country inn charges $275 per night for a poorly decorated family room which I think has not been updated since the seventies.

but the tap ware, etc could probably do with updating.

They are currently doing some remodeling work.

Under renovation at present, the rooms were very ordinary, the bar food poor and the general experience not worth the agents booking fee.

A wonderful homely and warm purpose built bed and breakfast in a lovely semi rural setting.

Exceptional breakfasts, wish we could have stayed longer than the 2 nights.

Peter and Jane could not have done more to welcome us, to make us so comfortable, to give us delicious breakfasts and to give us advice on the locality.

A brilliant breakfast was served each morning combined with the right tips to explore the Mount Cook area.

Breakfast was great and we had a wonderful stay.

Charming & peaceful property, exceptionally clean & spacious room, delicious & hearty breakfast, and exceptionally gracious and accommodating hosts.

Breakfast is also very good with a large selection of foods.

Peter and Jane were welcoming and the lovely biscuits we were offered as we left were delicious.

They served a terrific full Kiwi breakfast in the morning which was perfect for sending us off on our next section of the trail.

Very obliging hosts, great breakfast and extremely clean and tidy premises and quite well maintained.

Each morning they prepared a traditional NZ breakfast for us, which was delicious and kept us fueled up for most of the day.

.we were never offered a cold beverage, water, tea or other after a long day of traveling.

When the stove was out 15-20 min after its door was shut the fire was out  and the room was really cold.

We arrived on a cold Sunday afternoon in winter, so we really appreciated sitting with them in front of the fire and having a glass of wine.

Had the weather been anything other than scorching hot, we probably would have given Heartland Lodge a four-star rating.

Did I say this was also the only place without heat in every room?

The only negative point about our stay, was the lack of tea and coffee making facilities in the room.

No master key to lock the bedroom door with just a flip one on the inside.

We were given the keys to The Retreat which can accommodate six ppl.

Unlike a standard B&B, there was no separate guest lounge or dining room to be shut away in, the whole downstairs of the house is shared.

But what made this place stand out for us was the care the hosts put into ensuring that our dietary needs were met with our continental breakfast.

The family was very friendly and there were many items to choose from for breakfast, including freshly scrambled eggs with chives.

Room was very big and comfortable and the breakfast was very good!

A wonderful  family looked after us with a great breakfast each morning and a easter surprise on Sunday.

The breakfast was good and gave us a perfect start of the day.

The accommodation is well above average, the breakfasts are superb, help and guidance is readily available for local visits and the Lodge is well situated in Twizel for restaurants and shops.

Their breakfast is excellent, at convenient times (between 08:00 and 09:00 am), and in the evening, they even have a well stocked fully licensed bar!

My only regret is that we didn't have much time here and had to miss the pre-dinner drinks due to a pre-booked visit to the Mount John observatory.

Due to a bad storm washing out the West coast highway we had to re-route our trip and ended up in Twizel.

Due to the Christchurch-Earthquake we had to change our plans and decided to stay in the Aoraki Lodge in Twizel.

We were also woken at 5 in the morning by early risers preparing their breakfast.

You prepare your own breakfast (and dinner too if you like) in the communal kitchen, which is a relief if you have been travelling for long and have had enough of eating out.

There was a lovely dinning room area and the bedrooms were roomy with yummy blankets on them.

Twizel is minutes away where we visit for breakfast and petrol refill.

The view is fantastic, and up until Feb you can have breakfast on the porch.

Owners were really friendly and the home baked and cooked breakfast was lovely.

Sean makes a terrific breakfast with scones and muffins while at the same time he supplies a steady stream of interesting information.

Sean greeted us each morning for breakfast where we enjoyed cereal and the delicious scones and breads he baked that morning.

Breakfast is provided in the lodge and we had excellent breakfasts every morning, eating more than we needed because it was delicious.

When we were there Shaun cooked breakfasts.

Our hosts, Sean and Nicola were very friendly and welcoming and provided a good breakfast, with homemade savoury scones and banana bread.

Shaun or Nicola are of course always with you throughout the breakfast sharing their experiences and suggesting interesting things to do.

It was also a nice deviation from the standard B&B breakfast fare of bacon, eggs and sausages.

Nicola's breakfast scones and muffins were wonderfully tasty.

Sean's breakfast (particularly his muffins) was a contemporary spin on the traditional B&B breakfast fare.

There were plenty of powerpoints to plug in laptops, camera charges, mobile phones, etc.

I fried a couple of eggs every morning for breakfast.

The breakfast supplied was also great, and nothing was a problem.

For breakfast there is bread, eggs, cereal, yogurt, fruit, jams, marmite etc all supplied for you to help yourself.

The staff was super friendly and the kitchen is open in the mornings for guests to make their own breakfast.

We ate our meals in the Community Kitchen/ dining area where you have access to eggs, OJ, toast, granola, fruit, etc for breakfast.

Breakfast was great, and I would thoroughly recommend a stay here!

as I was standing next to my vehicle checking maps on my phone in the parking area the guy yells from the balcony that I had "overstayed" and he "suggests I get going" I was a bit confused what seems to have offended him exactly since I had already left the lodge at that point, regardless this is no way to talk to a guest.
