The front desk immediately told me that I would be charged extra for this.

So I had to cancel, also for that did not get a confirmation. Instead, two days after the cancellation my credit card was charged, about two weeks before (!)

The taxis are notorious at over charging and I experienced this - the hotel told me 10 d to the airport and the driver put on the meter at what seemed double the rate and ended up paying 20 d. I have no hesitation in recommending the Carlton for a no frills place to stay

As minuses, the breakfast was not consistent (excellent one day, rather poor the following one), the common areas are pretty "cold" and business-like, and the credit card payment did not work.

The only downsides were that the room had no comfortable chair and only one elecrticity socket in a bad spot, which doesn't work well when you have to charge phone and laptop and toothbrush.

They will charge you 3X the normal price if you don't settle beforehand.

4- In future to change the current room keys to digital room key card .

We had heard that from the airport  drivers are aggressive and over charge which our driver tried to do.

There was no always-on electrical outlet, so my electronics couldn't be charged unless I was in the room with the room key.

To cap it all when leaving the hotel the pageboy asked me if I needed a Taxi and brought me to one across the street and the driver claimed 4 times the price of the ride saying that he was working with the hotel and that for waiting for customers he was charging extra.

The only comment I give here is even that I charged my SLR camera battery the day before, the battery was low on the second level (out of three in the museum), and so I had to take some pictures also with my smartphone camera as well.

I paid with my credit card (visa) without any problem.

However, I had to nag them into dragging out the credit card machine so I could pay for my room.

When the time arrived to ask for the bill, they wanted to charge me more than the amount we had already agreed by email.

- Upon checkout, they charged me for Half-Board all 3 nights instead of just Breakfast, and it took me 25 minutes to get the charges rectified.

You can request to be picked up at the airport for 10 Tunisian dinars (about 7 to 8 US dollars), therefore avoiding a shameless cab driver charging you an exorbitant rate.

Security was polite and present

Situated in the middle of town Tunis, Hotel Carlton is the perfect position to visit Tunis.

The location is also very central in downtown.

It was just a surprise how clean was the hotel/room, location is perfect, staff is good and absolutlely not intrusive.

Also, perfect location at the heart of the city of Tunis !

The hotel is in a terrific location, very close to the Medina and right in the high street.

Although the rooms are in need of a renovation, the hotel offers great value and a super location.

I stayd at Carlton hotel half day, its location in middle of Habib Bourgiba street in the centre of Tunis the capital.

I had three nights in Tunis, I booked this hotel unaware of location.

Break fast was good with local dishes as well as international stuff.

The location was perfect for taking the train to Carthage and Sidi Bou Said and there were several restaurants nearby for evening dining of which the front desk was most helpful in recommending.

Excellent location, right in downtown and within walking distance to the medina.

I would never recommend this hotel  unless you want to party all night.

One side of the building does face a bar that can get loud at weekend nights.

The curtains really do not block out so much light and it is a bit loud on the main street.

Our rooms were in the back of the street where there was a club and the loud music was annoying till 3 am so if you can choose make sure your room isnt over the club

My room and balcony faces a side street, there is a restaurant /bar below, Le Pub Gentlemen, see picture, it has loud music till about 2 am (on a Saturday night)

There were some minor faults with our room, the air-con made a loud rattling noise when turned on to full, and one of the bed mattresses was inclined at an angle that gave a sore back.

Whenever someone outside opens/closes a door, the noise comes to you, loud and clear.

First a restaurant close to the hotel played music really loud until late and after I finally have managed to fall asleep I have been waken up at 7.30 am by workers doing some maintenance work in the hotel.

All during the day, loud music could be heard coming from somewhere in the hotel.

Unfortunately the air con unit would not work and, to make things worse, the room looked onto an alley at the back of the building with a bar right opposite playing music at full blast.

My sister felt bad because of this disrespect  ( as if she looks poor and has no money to pay by herself !!

The egg station was also unavailable on my last day which was very weird as this was the only thing I could possibly eat at this very poor breakfast.

I felt the service I received was poor, which in turn made me feel uncomfortable asking for anything during my stay.

It's cosine not good and poor and receptionists are welcoming and smiling .

The only negative is that the lobby is not yet finished so check in and entry is cramped and gives a poor first impression. .

The breakfast is poor in quality, and u ve to pay for the water and fersh juice!!!..

Just to sleep badly, as the sound isolation is poor.

cons: poor breakfast with very bad coffe, old matresses, old rooms-although very clean.

Shower was poor (though there was hot water, at least).

The brekfast is very poor as I never seen before.

A beautiful Art Deco Building right in the centre with easy access to the Medina, shops, restaurants, railway, etc.

The art all arround, the comfort of rooms, the WONDERFUL view, the staff so nice and professional, the food delicious, everything is there for to make your stay the perfect one.

There were certainly positive aspects as well: the hotel seems to have been recently remodeled, a small fridge and room safe are provided, the room was very clean and meals were varied and of decent quality.

Surrounded by restaurants and cafés I do really recommend this hotel for short stay customers.

We were able to walk to  restaurants, museums and  the city’s Medina.

Staff really helpful and gave us good recommendations of where to eat.

Great restaurant, El Capitol across street 1 block up on left was very good with English menu..

Around hotels many cafes and restaurants, you can walk many places.

Wonderful at night to be on the avenue having dinner and people watching at nearby restaurants.

The location  is a walk rom the clock tower on one side to the bazaar on the other.There are plenty of coffee shops and places to eat and also perfume shops-well worth a visit.

It's very convenient and lot of restaurant and shop near thw hotel.

but otherwise you do get enough varieties to eat.

Hotel Africa is directly opposite where alcohol is sold.

Full of cafe and restaurants right out of the door, tramway and trains at five minutes walk.

It's on a main road with lots of cafes so that's a plus.

On arrival we were allocated a room on the lst floor at the rear of the building.

My Carlton room was very clean, very quiet, with very up-to-date décor.

but the only downsides were that anyone from the other rooms could walk straight past your window, so no privacy.

Mind you, of 2 rooms we have checked out, the windows could not be locked.

The reason why we couldn't close the windows was because there was no air conditioning in the rooms available,

but closing the windows blocked out all street noise.

though window faced the back alley with some unfortunate smell when opening the window.

Seems to be a similar problem here, cannot open windows as too noisy.

you can either shut the windows and suffer in the heat and stuffiness, or you can open the windows and say goodbye to any ideas of sleep!

The window appears at  broken walls in front and  with a stinking smell and running electr engine noise if opened.

What did bother me was that the windows weren't very good at keeping out noise.

i looked from the window nothing to see a dirty building opposit .

Our room was on the fourth floor with a window facing West (not the main street).

but ALL night we had to listen to the neighbors closing their wood slatted shutters on their windows.

but the View from is too much disappointing due to so many constructions projects facing the hotel.

The free wifi was reasonably fast and food was OK. Now for the cons, there is no place in this area (Le Bergres de Lac 2) including the hotel that serves alcohol so get your own booze also there is a lot of construction near and around the hotel

It is located next to the Canadian Embassy and in an area under construction with some restaurants

There is also a construction site facing the hotel so not helpful if you want top sleep in or during the day.

However it is located in an area under construction so the neighborhood isn't so nice,

There was no iron in the room, I did not need it so I did not ask for it

I really recommend the La Corail for any one coming for short or long stay, also the location is perfect the area is surrounded with nice cafes and restaurants and it is 5 min walk from Tunisia mall and 10-15 min drive from the airport.

The price is fair , the rooms are clean and comfortable, the workers are very friendly.

it is very good in everything and have a lovely breakfast i liked, the room is very clean and staff are nice and do everything on time.location in the best area in Tunisia and not far of airport .i advised to every one

A good place to go for a business trip: well located close to Lac Palace Mall and Tunisia Mall, smiling and helpful staff, good wifi connection, clean rooms, good buffet for breaksfast.

Every time I had to wait for some time to get checked in/ check out.

however I had a very bad experience when the reception staff  asked me to wait long time to complete check-in and get to my room where other guests arrived after me and got to their rooms one hours before me!!!

Only one lift was working which was very slow and made me wait each time a couple of minute.

I get in the shower and realize that no towels have been provided, so at this point I am drying myself off with a bath matt in order to put on dirty clothes and go to a meeting with no breakfast because I've been waiting so long.

The receptionist  was unhelpful , I  waited more than 40 minutes in the lobby to get my room and after all this I found the maid still in the room, it's not much with my expectation.

After 2 hours when i asked the reception to get my car back, i kept waiting for 30 minutes, first the clerk said the car is coming, then they asked me if its possible that i go my self to take it out from the car park, once i arrived at the parking i found my car on front of the parking automatic door, the valet told me that he couldnt take it out because its an automatic car.

check in is a disaster, they didn't t want to add a bottle of water in the bill from the bar.

I still dont know why there is a difference in the IBIS concept in Asia vs Africa , there are no tea/coffee making facilities, bottled water or gym.

I know a bottle of water is not in Ibis habit

No kettle, no minibar, no amenities, no complimentary bottle of water, so bring one with you for urgent needs.

- Drink Prices are what you may expect in Europe: coffee, tea: 4 dinars (2 euros), glass of wine: 4 dinars, mineral water bottle: 4 dinars.

-fruit juice: 4,500
-bottle of water (90 cl): 3,000 dinars

-Room: 100 dinars a night

   Conclusion: Personally, I will not use Ibis Tunis next time.

because no minibar in the room 
they wanted payment in advance even if credit card was garanting the staying.

Those drivers don't turn on the meter and will charge you twice as much for any where you ask them to take you.

That means the block Double the amount of money (TND1,000 charged in lieu of TND 510) for the stay I have booked.
