To the beach you have to drive with the car

There's also a great selection of bikes to borrow and cycle for miles round pretty coastal and country lanes.

The location is also great because it is very close to the Eastern coast of Puglia and only a few Km to Otranto.

A very comfortable hotel with spacious rooms and super facilities in the Southern tip of Puglia, ideal for those wanting to explore the area and its great range of sights and beaches.

The nearby coast is amazing, not lots of sand,

In particular we should mention Francesca who welcomed us and researched a local fiesta and advised on beaches and restaurants.

The staff was always ready to help, assisting me even on a trip to the local pharmacy and borrowing us a sun umbrella for use at a nearby public beach.

Very sweet staff, always helpful (booked restaurants, beach clubs, tennis and made the best aperol spritz in the attached small bar) and flexible (no problem when we had to change dates back and forth a couple of times upon arrival).

They helped us with recommending beach clubs in the south as well as arranging a taxi into the town of Castro.

The little town is quite cute - and a top notch beach is just a few minutes away in Castro.

Everyday we visited different places on the coast to swim , and spent alot of other times relaxing in the Palazzo gardens.

although the village feels like it is in the middle of nowhere - you are close to the beach and nice towms to visit.

So close to the stunning coast and lots of wonderful towns.

If you fancy beaches, the sea is only a few minutes away (you need a rental car to get around).

If you’re visiting the South of Puglia, the towns of Santa Maria di Leuca and Lecce, with maybe forays to the town of Galatina and to some of the local beaches, the “Palazzo Guglielmo Diffuso” is a wonderful place to be based at.

It was very dark, no natural light and a strong smell of damp plus shower floor look dirty.

The room was a little on the dark side and didnt have a patio or view as such

but was perhaps a bit dark for our tastes but all the rooms seem different so ask.

however no fridge, no safe very dismal and dark.

The room was somewhat dark and airless, with only possibility of air to open the bathroom window, and it smelled of damp.

We'd asked for a room that was dark and peaceful to sleep in and the Bukowsky was superb.

but slow due to lack of fiber in the village.

The pool area could accommodate no more than  8 people on loungers due to the restrictive area around the pool.

We arrived well after check in due to a missed flight and we were accommodated without any hassle.

but they were so kind to cancel our booking at the last minute without a cancellation fee when we had to miss our trip to Italy due to an emergency I just wanted to highlight their prompt and very kind communication.

There is just one seating and unfortunately due to rain we had to eat inside

Was it our spacious room, the many terraces, the enormous orange-filled garden, the tasteful restaurant next-door, the big jacuzzi inside a well-constructed 'cave', the bicycles you can take for interesting rides in the country or the friendly and ever-helpful staff?

Met by Francesca who was fabulous, so friendly, helpful and wanted us to have a lovely time.

From the moment we arrived in a heavy summer thunder storm and Francesca and Christian dashed out with large umbrellas, to the personal and friendly care we received throughout our stay, we had a wonderful time.

The personnel is super friendly and available, it is like being at home.

even though we hadn't specifically asked them to, helped us with tips and routes for cycling and were generally extremely friendly and welcoming.

Great homemade breakfasts and a wonderful host in Francesca who is a wealth of friendly information on the best places to visit and eat.

After the enjoyable rigours of preparing for and hosting our daughter's wedding recently, we needed a relaxing break to re-charge our batteries and the Palazzo delivered again.

The Guglielmo is situated close to the nearby town of Castro which is perfect for shopping , swimming in the sea in the small port / lido area  as well as cafes and bars.

We had fun having a pasta making lesson and got to eat our produce in the restaurant.

Finally, every member of staff in reception, bar ans restaurant were very generous with their time.

Breakfast was superb with home made cakes  and the restaurant excellent.

We also enjoyed the pasta making session!

but we were able to participate in Pizza night and the Wine Tasting, both were fantastic.

Beautiful rooms, very nice breakfast and good food.

Food is really good and they care about the details.

I liked the barbeques and the pasta cooking course and of course the pizza eveneing

The breakfast was so idyllic reach morning and my husband really enjoyed the pasta making class.

Brief summary: great place, excellent facilities, comfortable clean rooms, very hospitable host, good restaurant attached.

Breakfast was delicious and we also really enjoyed a couple of dinners at the Angelo restaurant too.

The food in the restaurant was good and the most outstanding thing was a delicious tomato paste that they make in house and serve with the bread, delicious!

Also the restaurant was much to our liking.

We thought the food at the adjoining restaurant was ok/good

we didn't use because it had a bad chlorine smell. Pool is nice

Outside Areas:
Permanent smell of poo and cats urine from the resident cats.

but was musty smelling and I immediately wanted some air in there. The area outside our room was a "shared" sort of greenery walled lawn (which I found strange for Pugila, grass? )

We ate in the hotel once and it was gratifying to hear and smell the slow-cooked octopus stew being prepared from late afternoon.

The staff were fantastic, incredibly helpful in advising of places to visit, including parking, and organising trips out, including tips about where to eat etc.

The staff were helpful with making arrangements.

Rooms were welcoming, clean and very spacious.

Wonderful experience and memories thanks to the kindness of people, the delicious homemade breakfast and their relaxing garden.

The beautiful floor and vaulted ceiling are really special and the front window looks out over the small square and the church.

We closed the windows on the first night and ended up sleeping 10 hours.

All the sunshades and gazebo drapes were deeply impregnated with black algae and filthy dirty which had obviously accumulated over time and not from the rain we were experiencing.

The only thing which could be annoying for some travelers, was the fact that our room had a window on the street where all "nonnos" of the town meet.

The rooms are remodelled, pretty basic especially the bathroom where there are no shelves or hooks in the shower to hold the stuff.

They should be more careful with keeping the amenities clean.

On arrival the shower was blocked so the water would have spilled into the rest of the bathroom had my sister not stopped halfway through her shower.

Cons
- the cleaner used our bathroom on our second day and left a huge deposit which they didn’t flush 
- went to alert reception and they didn’t care
- no toilet roll replenishedk
- on arrival our room floor was covered in black hairs
- our shower was blocked and made the room smell of sewage until someone came to fix it on day 2
- so many mosquitos 
- the cleaners left our door open and unlocked 
- having come from otranto where we were spoiled for choice of food the food here was awful.

What I didn t like: bathroom is a bit tired and they should renovate it.

Minimal bath amenities provided (only shampoo).

The pool is a major drawcard, as are a few of the other amenities including the 192 steps to the Adriatic, the table tennis, tennis court, boulle, etc.

Steep steps everywhere and steep slopes made of rough concrete that if you fell would shave your skin off like a razor blade.

The staff is helpful and friendly and goes out of their way to making your stay enjoyable.

but the furnishings are tasteful and have character, obviously thought by someone in the family who is into interior design -it is a family run place, so the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, making up for some glitches in service, but all in good spirit.

It is close to some beautiful beaches and adjacent Castro center was a fantastic surprise, after a rather disappointing Castro Marina.

We rented a boat for a day (from Castro Marina) and had the best day ever!

The hotel is a 7 minute (steep) walk from the centre of Castro with its historic centre and about 15-20 minute walk from Castro Marina, where most of the restaurants are located.

the buildings and rooms may not be in the best condition anymore

The only reason for not giving 4 stars is the fact that the rooms and general area’s are really outdated and have not been refurbishment for a while, this makes the general feeling a bit negative - 

While the rooms look ok in the pictures, in reality they need to be remodeled fast.

The general condition of this hotel is dilapidated and not up to it's 4 star rating.

A lovely hotel with the most helpful staff i have come across for many years.

but as said the staff does everything to make up for that.

The rooms are very comfortable and the staff couldn't have been more helpful.

I loved the way the hotel had little nooks and crannies and was sympathetic to the surrounding geography and  felt private.

Many of the rooms have water views, you can stare endlessly across the see while lounging by the pool and there is even a tennis court (albeit not in very good repair).

The hotel also has a great sea water swimming pool and an adjoining bar/restaurant area, along with a tennis court and a fabulous sitting room where your eyes peel off towards the full length windows towards the calming sea.

The pool is perfectly located giving you the most incredible views of the ocean below (side note, it is alittle too salty).

Rooms are self-contained and offer a magnificent view.

the hotel is in a great location and the view from our room (double room with seaview) was breathtaking.

This hotel has a perfect setting on the oceans cliff - beautifully located.

You can’t beat the landscape and spectacular access to the sea.

The stunning cliff top location took my breath away every morning.

The sea below us was every type of beautiful.

Please don’t be put off by a couple of “bugs in the shower” - it was just that, one or two, nothing that can kill you, and nothing that’s worth not waking up to the breathtaking view of the ocean every day.

The sunrise and the sunsets seen from the restaurant or my room were some of the most beautiful ever.

The  hotel has  spectacular views, a fabulous pool, clean spacious rooms.and a great dining area overlooking the sea.

the good things were great (swimming pool, room, breakfast and breakfast view) and the bad things were even made good - by the staff.

The pool area was clean we also enjoyed the option to go down lots of steps and get into the sea for a swim.

Fantastic views, fantastic location and quiet.

The hotel sits on a large plot overlooking the Adriatic.

First of all the staff are so warm, friendly and professional.

Alessandra, Davide, and Mary brought the perfect local, warm, and friendly touch to our stay.

This was the most wonderful experience made even better by the incredible service- Alessandra, Ivanna, Davide and Michele made this trip so special with their incredibly helpful and friendly service.

but they serve breakfast and will order in lunch if you desired (you need to pay extra)

The staff were very nice and a special mention to Davide who was super helpful and had a very friendly and welcoming way about him.

Where Don Totu really excels is the service - Marco (the manager) is charming, friendly and always on hand to help with any issue.

The hotel has a huge amount of charm and this is largely due to the friendly, warm staff who work there.

Alessandra and David , are wonderful, they organise anything you ask them to, they are gracious and friendly and really do try to make your stay special.

Our room was huge, spacious and comfortable and we slept well every night and the swimming pool and garden area is beautiful.

The decor is exquisite, the gardens so peaceful.

The decor is wonderful and very comfortable, so many different areas to sit in, both in te garden and many different rooftops.

but the beautiful flowers and peaceful gardens with a huge pool are a standout.

It really was very high class and has really lovely gardens and a nice pool.

Warm welcome, nice garden, very bad rooms.

The swimming pool and gardens are just gorgeous, they have a small gym, a yoga option sometimes, bikes to ride and a vespa to hire.

but inside, it is very luxurious with large pool, spa, and beautiful gardens.

The gardens are immaculate as is the beautiful pool area.

The rooms are well designed and spacious and the gardens and pool area are exquisite.
