To the beach you have to drive with the car

There's also a great selection of bikes to borrow and cycle for miles round pretty coastal and country lanes.

The location is also great because it is very close to the Eastern coast of Puglia and only a few Km to Otranto.

A very comfortable hotel with spacious rooms and super facilities in the Southern tip of Puglia, ideal for those wanting to explore the area and its great range of sights and beaches.

The nearby coast is amazing, not lots of sand,

In particular we should mention Francesca who welcomed us and researched a local fiesta and advised on beaches and restaurants.

The staff was always ready to help, assisting me even on a trip to the local pharmacy and borrowing us a sun umbrella for use at a nearby public beach.

Very sweet staff, always helpful (booked restaurants, beach clubs, tennis and made the best aperol spritz in the attached small bar) and flexible (no problem when we had to change dates back and forth a couple of times upon arrival).

They helped us with recommending beach clubs in the south as well as arranging a taxi into the town of Castro.

The little town is quite cute - and a top notch beach is just a few minutes away in Castro.

Everyday we visited different places on the coast to swim , and spent alot of other times relaxing in the Palazzo gardens.

although the village feels like it is in the middle of nowhere - you are close to the beach and nice towms to visit.

So close to the stunning coast and lots of wonderful towns.

If you fancy beaches, the sea is only a few minutes away (you need a rental car to get around).

If you’re visiting the South of Puglia, the towns of Santa Maria di Leuca and Lecce, with maybe forays to the town of Galatina and to some of the local beaches, the “Palazzo Guglielmo Diffuso” is a wonderful place to be based at.

All staff first class and Mauro sorted our transfers and gave us lift to the beach and sorted out my lost glasses.

The boat trip along the coast was a highlight.

The room was a little on the dark side and didnt have a patio or view as such

The room was somewhat dark and airless, with only possibility of air to open the bathroom window, and it smelled of damp.

We'd asked for a room that was dark and peaceful to sleep in and the Bukowsky was superb.

After the enjoyable rigours of preparing for and hosting our daughter's wedding recently, we needed a relaxing break to re-charge our batteries and the Palazzo delivered again.

The breakfast was so idyllic reach morning and my husband really enjoyed the pasta making class.

Brief summary: great place, excellent facilities, comfortable clean rooms, very hospitable host, good restaurant attached.

Breakfast was delicious and we also really enjoyed a couple of dinners at the Angelo restaurant too.

The food in the restaurant was good and the most outstanding thing was a delicious tomato paste that they make in house and serve with the bread, delicious!

We loved the Spa, the Gym, the Pool, the Breakfast, the Restaurant beside Palazzo Guglielmo, the Silence, the Personnel, the Palazzo itself and all the relax locations around the property.

but actually it is nice and quiet and it means pizzerias, restaurants, the small shops and supermarket are all within reach.

The staff is so helpful and genuine, the rooms are full of character, the facilities are really good and the service second to none.

It has everything: beautiful rooms, wonderful staff, very good restaurant and a bar, not to mention the pool.

but you need to climb steps to get there and the area is small.

As in many of the reviews the directions are slightly vague, my advice is go to the main square in the village to the bottom steps of the church, turn round and it is there behind some imposing wooden doors.

When the doors to the hotel are opened it is like a step through into a different world.

One morning there was cats poo in the outside breakfast area, worst was it was ignored by the staff, so the adjacent table was ignored by guests.

Having the appartment meant we could keep cold water and snacks in the fridge , and eat late lunches around the large table.

One tiny regret: no table d'hotes, maybe one day?

My husband & I came from Lecce and unfortunately missed our stop where we needed to change trains (for any of you doing this journey we had to change at Zolina for either Spongano or Poggiardo).

The website doesn't do the layout of the building justice.

This place is very special, and you need to be receptive to this special quality because brochures, reviews and websites can't tell the story.

With this said, we did still have a great vacation.

I would recommend this hotel for a relaxing break.

My wife and I stayed at the Piccolo Mondo for 12 days in late June/early July 2014 and had the most wonderful holiday.

but the hotel is too old and the service as well

The daily climb to the castle is worth it for the restaurants and cafes that surround it and the views are spectacular.

Perfectly located a short drive from so many great little towns and places to eat, Piccolo Mondo is the ideal spot to come and lose yourself in Puglia.

The sunrise and the sunsets seen from the restaurant or my room were some of the most beautiful ever.

The restaurant is excellent, they serve fresh seafood and some traditonal dishes.

Castro marina and town are about a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel so it's easy to reach restaurants, shops, boat rental etc.

the rooms are all tucked away into the rocks of the cliffs, and one sees over the wonderful ocean from many different locations, best of all from the restaurant terrace.

The restaurant at the hotel does a great breakfast and also does dinner.

The hilly terrain helps you digest the sumptuous meal afterwards.

Breakfast adequate with very friendly staff (same ones from night before's dinner).

The hotel is a 7 minute (steep) walk from the centre of Castro with its historic centre and about 15-20 minute walk from Castro Marina, where most of the restaurants are located.

There's lots of swimming options nearby, especially if you go to Santa Cesarea Terme, there's a nice rocky beach and you can even snorkle there.

A lovely hotel with the most helpful staff i have come across for many years.

but as said the staff does everything to make up for that.

The rooms are very comfortable and the staff couldn't have been more helpful.

I loved the way the hotel had little nooks and crannies and was sympathetic to the surrounding geography and  felt private.

The service is absolutely impeccable and includes a breakfast with local products, a sweet treat in the afternoon, an aperitivo with the cocktail of your choice and room cleaning service in the morning and in the evening.

Breakfast each morning was fantastic, with great and changing choices each day- in fact, breakfast was so good and filling we didn’t ever have room for lunch! I think it’s important to have a car if you stay here - nearby castro, Otranto and Lecce are well worth a visit and  SAN Cassiano itself is quiet (for stress free driving on the wrong side of the road!)

Breakfast; healthy yummy fresh juices, fresh fruit, yogurt, eggs and for those who like sweets in the morning (the Italian adore) lots of pastries and cake.

We loved everything about this hotel from the breakfast in the morning to the snacks and drinks available during the day to the expert advice on what to see and do.

The breakfasts and lunches they served were just perfect.

There were so many little details that really made the trip, like homemade gelato served to us at the pool every afternoon, an included aperitivo every evening, a rooftop cinema, yoga every morning, amazing breakfast on offer, homemade cakes on offer in the kitchen throughout the day.

but they serve breakfast and will order in lunch if you desired (you need to pay extra)

The staff were very nice and a special mention to Davide who was super helpful and had a very friendly and welcoming way about him.

Breakfast started off with freshly squeeze juice made as requested along with eggs and other breads available.

The rooms, common areas, facilities, service, breakfast are all of an exceptional standard.

Breakfast was an absolute delight and Ada’s omelettes are without doubt the best in my extensive travels.

The breakfast buffet was delicious every day with authentic, local ingredients evident in all of the food.

The breakfast buffet was delicious and lunches,  which you have to preorder in the morning, were served by the charming Ivana who really went above and beyond to ensure that we felt looked after.

We enjoyed the space and quiet, along with delicious breakfast and welcoming staff who arranged various trips and bookings for us.

Fantastic breakfasts, amazing bedrooms and comfortable communal spaces which you are sharing with only 6 other couples max.

Breakfast and lunch are all home cooked with attention to quality.

PS the breakfasts are very, very good too - fresh fruit, eggs made to order, hams, cheeses, home made yoghurt - and I particularly liked the home made tart made each morning - the aubergine tart especially - delicious!

The property spreads out behind the facade to include a swimming pool area that is just stunning, wonderfully laid out gardens, electric bikes, normal bikes, two Vespas (only chargeable item at 20€ per day), an open air cinema with BOSE surround sound, fantastic breakfast, Turkish bath, free aperitifs in the evening and much more.

The breakfast were wonderful and aperitivo hour was a lovely touch.

The air conditioner unit leaked water on my husbands suitcase and half his clothes got soaked.

It also included a courtyard which we only used for drying clothes and a large dressing room which had a slight smell of damp - the only thing I could really find any fault with in the entire hotel!

You can even have a yoga lesson (private one on one if there's no demand) free of charge.

Our suite was the only downstairs room, in one of the oldest buildings that make up the hotel.

The double room has an awful pink tiny bathroom, no privacy, no natural light; the suite has a ridiculous downstairs bathroom plus very dangerous steps (.

Alessandra, Davide, and Mary brought the perfect local, warm, and friendly touch to our stay.

This was the most wonderful experience made even better by the incredible service- Alessandra, Ivanna, Davide and Michele made this trip so special with their incredibly helpful and friendly service.

Where Don Totu really excels is the service - Marco (the manager) is charming, friendly and always on hand to help with any issue.

The hotel has a huge amount of charm and this is largely due to the friendly, warm staff who work there.

Alessandra and David , are wonderful, they organise anything you ask them to, they are gracious and friendly and really do try to make your stay special.

All the staff have a smile on their faces and were constantly assisting us with plans for the day and restaurants to visit.

The cooking class and wine tasting at the hotel were also so much fun and it was brilliant to learn how to make pasta with the warm and talented Ada!

Warm welcome, nice suggestions (places to visit & restaurants), the staff is constantly available and eager to please their guests.

Every day, the lovely Ivanna went out of her way to give us ideas for excursions with our kids, names of restaurants to try, etc.

Staff is also always on hand to help with (great) restaurant, beach club and cultural tips.

Marco, the manager was completely charming and was able to give great advice about where to eat locally.

Very helpful recommendations and advice of what to do and where to eat etc.

In 25 km radius you have 2 seas, great beaches, ancient villages and town, remarkable pieces of art, unforgettable (and inexpensive) restaurants, a very kind population to help you in your discovers and millions of olive trees.

The food was so fresh, we couldn't get enough.

Come seven on the evening David prepares a cocktail , or a glass of wine for you with some nibbles before you head of out for dinner.

but thinking back on last week's stay and all I recall were the hotel team that provided the utmost service.

But if one thing stands out, it is the service.

The service goes above and beyond expectations with Alessandra, Sabina, Davide and the other staff, always at hand to help with everything you need.

There are e-bikes and scooters to borrow, and transfer services if you want to go further afield.

Rooms are amazing, service is outstanding, with the staff only too willing to help.

Service from the team with Marco, David and Ivana is simply first class.
