To the beach you have to drive with the car

There's also a great selection of bikes to borrow and cycle for miles round pretty coastal and country lanes.

The location is also great because it is very close to the Eastern coast of Puglia and only a few Km to Otranto.

A very comfortable hotel with spacious rooms and super facilities in the Southern tip of Puglia, ideal for those wanting to explore the area and its great range of sights and beaches.

The nearby coast is amazing, not lots of sand,

In particular we should mention Francesca who welcomed us and researched a local fiesta and advised on beaches and restaurants.

The staff was always ready to help, assisting me even on a trip to the local pharmacy and borrowing us a sun umbrella for use at a nearby public beach.

Very sweet staff, always helpful (booked restaurants, beach clubs, tennis and made the best aperol spritz in the attached small bar) and flexible (no problem when we had to change dates back and forth a couple of times upon arrival).

They helped us with recommending beach clubs in the south as well as arranging a taxi into the town of Castro.

The little town is quite cute - and a top notch beach is just a few minutes away in Castro.

Everyday we visited different places on the coast to swim , and spent alot of other times relaxing in the Palazzo gardens.

although the village feels like it is in the middle of nowhere - you are close to the beach and nice towms to visit.

So close to the stunning coast and lots of wonderful towns.

If you fancy beaches, the sea is only a few minutes away (you need a rental car to get around).

If you’re visiting the South of Puglia, the towns of Santa Maria di Leuca and Lecce, with maybe forays to the town of Galatina and to some of the local beaches, the “Palazzo Guglielmo Diffuso” is a wonderful place to be based at.

A central breakfast room is open 24 hours with an honesty box bar for fruit juices, wine and coffee.

Breakfast was delicious, fresh, local and homemade.

The courtyard was lovely, the breakfast buffet was quite generous and varied.

The breakfast was so idyllic reach morning and my husband really enjoyed the pasta making class.

The food in the restaurant was good and the most outstanding thing was a delicious tomato paste that they make in house and serve with the bread, delicious!

We loved the Spa, the Gym, the Pool, the Breakfast, the Restaurant beside Palazzo Guglielmo, the Silence, the Personnel, the Palazzo itself and all the relax locations around the property.

Likewise the breakfast team, whose freshly made cakes were varied and delicious!

Great homemade breakfasts and a wonderful host in Francesca who is a wealth of friendly information on the best places to visit and eat.

Breakfast was superb, dinner in the restaurant as well, marvellous wines.

The breakfast, restaurant and local amenities are ideal, and the staff were so kind and helpful and always on hand.

It was very dark, no natural light and a strong smell of damp plus shower floor look dirty.

The room was a little on the dark side and didnt have a patio or view as such

but was perhaps a bit dark for our tastes but all the rooms seem different so ask.

however no fridge, no safe very dismal and dark.

The room was somewhat dark and airless, with only possibility of air to open the bathroom window, and it smelled of damp.

We'd asked for a room that was dark and peaceful to sleep in and the Bukowsky was superb.

but slow due to lack of fiber in the village.

The pool area could accommodate no more than  8 people on loungers due to the restrictive area around the pool.

We arrived well after check in due to a missed flight and we were accommodated without any hassle.

but they were so kind to cancel our booking at the last minute without a cancellation fee when we had to miss our trip to Italy due to an emergency I just wanted to highlight their prompt and very kind communication.

There is just one seating and unfortunately due to rain we had to eat inside

Beautiful surroundings, unique rooms, a calm oasis and the best start to a most relaxing Italian holiday.

After the enjoyable rigours of preparing for and hosting our daughter's wedding recently, we needed a relaxing break to re-charge our batteries and the Palazzo delivered again.

The Guglielmo is situated close to the nearby town of Castro which is perfect for shopping , swimming in the sea in the small port / lido area  as well as cafes and bars.

We had fun having a pasta making lesson and got to eat our produce in the restaurant.

Finally, every member of staff in reception, bar ans restaurant were very generous with their time.

We also enjoyed the pasta making session!

but we were able to participate in Pizza night and the Wine Tasting, both were fantastic.

Food is really good and they care about the details.

I liked the barbeques and the pasta cooking course and of course the pizza eveneing

Stuff is extraordinary friendly and the attached restaurant is one of the best in Puglia.

Brief summary: great place, excellent facilities, comfortable clean rooms, very hospitable host, good restaurant attached.

Was it our spacious room, the many terraces, the enormous orange-filled garden, the tasteful restaurant next-door, the big jacuzzi inside a well-constructed 'cave', the bicycles you can take for interesting rides in the country or the friendly and ever-helpful staff?

Also the restaurant was much to our liking.

We thought the food at the adjoining restaurant was ok/good

we didn't use because it had a bad chlorine smell. Pool is nice

Outside Areas:
Permanent smell of poo and cats urine from the resident cats.

but was musty smelling and I immediately wanted some air in there. The area outside our room was a "shared" sort of greenery walled lawn (which I found strange for Pugila, grass? )

We ate in the hotel once and it was gratifying to hear and smell the slow-cooked octopus stew being prepared from late afternoon.

The beautiful floor and vaulted ceiling are really special and the front window looks out over the small square and the church.

We closed the windows on the first night and ended up sleeping 10 hours.

All the sunshades and gazebo drapes were deeply impregnated with black algae and filthy dirty which had obviously accumulated over time and not from the rain we were experiencing.

The only thing which could be annoying for some travelers, was the fact that our room had a window on the street where all "nonnos" of the town meet.

Breakfast and lunch were delicious and there are a couple of restaurants within a 5 minute walk which are good for dinner.

The bedrooms are clean and comfortable - it would be hard to beat the delicious breakfasts

We loved everything about Don Totu - the insanely beautiful grounds, the delicious breakfast, the amenities, and most importantly, the incredible staff.

The service is absolutely impeccable and includes a breakfast with local products, a sweet treat in the afternoon, an aperitivo with the cocktail of your choice and room cleaning service in the morning and in the evening.

Breakfast each morning was fantastic, with great and changing choices each day- in fact, breakfast was so good and filling we didn’t ever have room for lunch! I think it’s important to have a car if you stay here - nearby castro, Otranto and Lecce are well worth a visit and  SAN Cassiano itself is quiet (for stress free driving on the wrong side of the road!)

Breakfast; healthy yummy fresh juices, fresh fruit, yogurt, eggs and for those who like sweets in the morning (the Italian adore) lots of pastries and cake.

We loved everything about this hotel from the breakfast in the morning to the snacks and drinks available during the day to the expert advice on what to see and do.

The breakfasts and lunches they served were just perfect.

There were so many little details that really made the trip, like homemade gelato served to us at the pool every afternoon, an included aperitivo every evening, a rooftop cinema, yoga every morning, amazing breakfast on offer, homemade cakes on offer in the kitchen throughout the day.

but they serve breakfast and will order in lunch if you desired (you need to pay extra)

The staff were very nice and a special mention to Davide who was super helpful and had a very friendly and welcoming way about him.

Breakfast started off with freshly squeeze juice made as requested along with eggs and other breads available.

The rooms, common areas, facilities, service, breakfast are all of an exceptional standard.

Breakfast was an absolute delight and Ada’s omelettes are without doubt the best in my extensive travels.

The breakfast buffet was delicious every day with authentic, local ingredients evident in all of the food.

The breakfast buffet was delicious and lunches,  which you have to preorder in the morning, were served by the charming Ivana who really went above and beyond to ensure that we felt looked after.

We enjoyed the space and quiet, along with delicious breakfast and welcoming staff who arranged various trips and bookings for us.

Breakfast and lunch are all home cooked with attention to quality.

Fantastic breakfasts, amazing bedrooms and comfortable communal spaces which you are sharing with only 6 other couples max.

PS the breakfasts are very, very good too - fresh fruit, eggs made to order, hams, cheeses, home made yoghurt - and I particularly liked the home made tart made each morning - the aubergine tart especially - delicious!

Different spaces inside and in the garden which offers you a lot of privacy.

The decor is exquisite, the gardens so peaceful.

The decor is wonderful and very comfortable, so many different areas to sit in, both in te garden and many different rooftops.

but the beautiful flowers and peaceful gardens with a huge pool are a standout.

It really was very high class and has really lovely gardens and a nice pool.

The swimming pool and gardens are just gorgeous, they have a small gym, a yoga option sometimes, bikes to ride and a vespa to hire.

but inside, it is very luxurious with large pool, spa, and beautiful gardens.

The gardens are immaculate as is the beautiful pool area.

The rooms are well designed and spacious and the gardens and pool area are exquisite.

The garden is gorgeous and the maze of rooms and terraces make for good exploring.

The gardens and pool area are divine and the pool is the cleanest I have been in, I was bliss fully happy laying in the sun by that pool.

The pool and gardens are stunning and most days we had them completely to ourselves as the other guests went out during the day.

David serves you the best gelato you will have in Salento and later you can enjoy aperitifs poolside or in the gardens.

I must admit, when we pulled up to this place, the building front and location were so unimpressive that I assumed there must be a mistake given all the fabulous magazine reviews.

Don’t make the same mistake as me and book for only 2 nights!

But as heavenly as that stay would be, it would be a mistake.

leaving the bathroom misty after taking a shower and leaving it smelly after using the loo.

Being old, there was a slightly damp smell on entry, and the bathroom's fittings were a little tired and in need of renovation (the toilet seat was cracked and the staff were having trouble sourcing a replacement).

It also included a courtyard which we only used for drying clothes and a large dressing room which had a slight smell of damp - the only thing I could really find any fault with in the entire hotel!

All the team are fabulous our favourite is Davida - he is a cocktail barman extraordinaire - they all work so hard from morning to night to make your experience so special Such a generous place complimentary soft drinks , ice cream and cakes available all day from the pool bar and the kitchen

And as others have said, the relaxed way you can just help yourself to soft drinks, cake, cookies etc made you feel at home.

The attention to details is remarkable:  vast breakfast choice, afternoon soft drinks, cakes, ice cream and predinner drinks.

Here you can take what you like, when you like of soft drinks and you're offered an aperativo every evening.

You can help yourself to soft drinks from the kitchen or from round the bar at the pool.

The kitchen is very high tech and beautifully clean, you are shown the fridge to help yourself to fresh chilled water and soft drinks.

Great extras such as free soft drinks, free use of the hotel's Vespas (you just pay for the insurance and petrol, alternatively there are free bikes and electric bikes), free morning yoga lessons in the gym (the yoga teacher was amazing), private use of the hammam and daily beach bags stocked with beach towels to take away.

First of all the staff are so warm, friendly and professional.

Alessandra, Mary, and Davide were so kind, welcoming, and attentive.

Don Totu is a magical place with beautiful rooms, luxuriously furnished with no expense spared and wonderfully attentive staff.

All the staff have a smile on their faces and were constantly assisting us with plans for the day and restaurants to visit.

This was especially visible in the kitchen, through Michaele and Davide’s interaction with Ada - the master chef!

but thinking back on last week's stay and all I recall were the hotel team that provided the utmost service.

The service goes above and beyond expectations with Alessandra, Sabina, Davide and the other staff, always at hand to help with everything you need.

The male attendants were excellent and polite throughout our stay.

With this as the backdrop, we pulled into a sleepy San Cassiano during mid-day siesta not knowing quite what to expect, and were greeted at the hotel by the lovely and efficient Alessandra.

All staff go above and beyond to ensure you are attended to, without ever invading your space or sense of exclusivity.

This was the most wonderful experience made even better by the incredible service- Alessandra, Ivanna, Davide and Michele made this trip so special with their incredibly helpful and friendly service.

Hot water constantly running out, we had a couple of “fresh” showers. No ventilation in the small bathroom (No window!!)

Their solution is to simply turf their large bags of household waste out of their car windows as they drive along both highways and backroads.

The windows are so bad, if you close them, you still hear the noise from the street like its in your room.

but we put up with the warmers seas of our more organised beaches as we are lesser swimmers.

It is 25 min drive to most places along the coast

Francesco is always there to recommend the restaurant or beach.

Also very close to Tricase centro or the beautiful beaches and sightseeings nearby.

Francesco and Paola know very well the region and, if you wish, they will be able to give you precious suggestions on places to visit in the surroundings, beaches, restaurants or local shops where to buy traditional products.

but the port is lovely and the coastal road to Leuca breath taking.

The coastline here is rocky as it is in many parts of Puglia,

In the rooms they have a guest book with indications of restaurants, beaches, visits, etc.

There is even a fleet of bicycles that you can borrow (all in pretty good working order) and it is well worth doing so and riding up or down the coast road.

Fantastic nature and region - you can take the bikes from the masseria, drive to the fantastic beaches and enjoy the pure and nature. ..

but both coasts can be easily reached.Nearby a great and cheap restaurant ("Castello di Momo" in Lucugnano, try the mussels saute') and the magnificent borgo Specchia (go to Pro Loco in the main square and ask for the free tour - just the visit to the undergound oil-mill of the XV century is worth the effort)

Conveniently situated for visiting beaches, restaurants, clubs and other places of interest.

In one week we visited most of Salento and it's wonderful, unspoiled beaches.

The breakfast is held in a shady area overlooking the large square in front with views  to Olive groves and outbuildings, one of which can be booked to stay in.

Sometimes you get lucky and we were lucky to meet Francesco and Paula the owner / operators of this fantastic masseria which is a type of bed and breakfast in a centuries old farmhouse.

The food was local seasonal and delicious using ingredients from the gardens.

Breakfasts were perfect, different every day.

The breakfast was again very very ample and had lots of fresh local food.

A superb breakfast of local produce, with a wide choice to suit all tastes, Paolas home baked goods were particularly delightful.

The simply authentic decor , lovely clean rooms ,  sumptuous breakfasts , relaxing lounge areas for a nap or before supper drink and most importantly the hosts .

The breakfast was every day different and richly made with homemade crostata, Italian specialities like foccacia and a various range of selected breds, homemade yoghurt, marmelade and fruits.

The breakfasts were so delicious and they had plates and glasses we could use to sit in the courtyard at night and have drinks and antipasto.

One of the best spots of our holidays in Salento. We really appreciated the hospitality, the quality of the breakfasts and the room (forget the tiny rooms of the big cities hotels!)

Francesco and his wife Paola are so warm and helpful and the breakfast is absolutely delicious with lots of home made Italian goodies!

The breakfast is very nice with fresh products from the land and everyday a new freshly baked cake.

We arose from our spacious, comfortable chamber to a breakfast that I can describe only as Delizioso! Invariably.

Breakfast is included (although it is very "local"), I had specifically indicated that I do not eat "sweet" breakfast,
