You can catch the boat right outside to visit other parts of the Lake.

Take a boat across the lake to Garda, Limone.

Gardone has regularly boat access to the public boats that visit the other main towns around the lake and this was a fantastic way to get around!

To start with the positives 
- room excellent , we had a room overlooking Lake Garda , the room was clean ,and quiet and room cleaning was first rate
- reception was very helpful and welcoming 
- the location is first rate  and well positioned for ferry boats 
- Gardone town is small

Being away from the entrance is an advantage also because during the day there is quite a bit of traffic of boats, ferry etc as the town pier is just across the fence.

We arrived at the Grand Hotel following our cruise on Queen Victoria, the hotel is right on the edge on Lake Garda in Gardone Rivivera infact they have a section of the lake buoyed off so that you can swim in it, there is also a great outdoor swimming pool as well and at the edge of the hotel is the jetty for the late boats that act as buses taking you to various places.

we did a number of trips to other towns on the lake by boat and went up the cable car t o mount brando.

It is situated right on the Ferry landing so it is easy to get a boat to anywhere you fancy.

The boat pier beside the hotel is very convenient for getting around the lake.

Just got home from staying in the Grand Hotel Gardone it was beautiful just wanted to post a review as I was so impressed by the hotel,staff we wonderful and the location was so peaceful just a few metres away from the boats which could take you all over the lake,

Hotel next to lake boats jetty handy when catching a lake boast tour.

The staff are so friendly and helped us to make arrangements to hire a private boat tour.

ask the reception staff for a discount card for the boats on the lake.

The hotel is right next to the Lake Garda boat stop so access to the interesting towns on the Lake is easy.

We took the rapid boat to Garda at a cost of 24 euro each this includes 20% off with a card from reception.

The boat leaves from just outside the hotel, so you can explore other areas of the lake too.

Ideally located for travel by boat, as the ferry stop is right outside the hotel.

The lake ferry boats also stop by the hotel, so getting around is easy.

This is a great relaxing place to stay with an unrivalled location right on the lake (no road in between) l, good food and perfectly placed for boat trips across the lake.

Sitting out on the veranda, looking across lake Garda while having breakfasts was a real  delight.

The breakfasts are very good indeed  with an extensive choice of quality food and there is the added bonus of sitting on the lakes edge in glorious sunshine.

The food at breakfast and dinner was all good.

Breakfast by the lake was very beautiful and relaxing,

Breakfast was impressive in its selection,

The desserts were plentiful and well presented

You will be given at the moment of your departure, instead of breakfast, a carrier bag with items inside for you to ‘enjoy’ on your journey.

The food at breakfast is buffet style and has plenty of choice.

You could request poached or fried eggs or an omelette which would be deliver to your table piping hot.

Last September the food was outstanding every day both the breakfast buffet and the a la carte restaurant.

The food was very good, the breakfast buffet has loads of choice, continental, cooked, fresh fruit etc, the evening meal was waiter service with a varied menu.

Evening meals were also a big disappointment on options with mostly the main course inedible.

but has restaurants and small range of shops 
- breakfast is good 
- pool side food is also good 
- service is good and attentive .

We only went b&b so can only comment on breakfast which was buffet style and plenty of choice 
The scrambled eggs looked un edible so I order poach each morning which you got a 50/50 chance of getting how you asked 
Great that it was available from 7am with lovely seating over the water.

As an example, having had mushrooms on the breakfast buffet for the first 3 days, these were then replaced by TINNED CARROTS for the next couple of days.

The problems with the restaurant are well documented on trip advisor so other than agreeing that dinner in the half board arrangement is worth avoiding I won’t add much to that other than saying I didn’t find the breakfast as bad as some other guests obviously did, my partner loved the pastry selection and the area where breakfast is taken ( about three feet from the edge of the lake ) vastly out weighed any minor problems.

As a hotel, staying bed and breakfast, I would recommend as the location and staff are brilliant

The breakfast was plentiful and fresh ( in my view),  Winnie’s bar served a great glass of champagne ( yes it was expensive

The balcony in the afternoon with a cold drink was bliss looking out over the lake.

We spent an average of €200 per day for hotel drinks and external meals.

The drinks were very expensive compared to the local restaurants with bottled water €5 for 0.75 litre,

Ordered a omelette for breakfast took 30 minutes to arrive after asking times  last night in bar took about 20 minutes to get a drink the couple sitting next to us walked out after 30 minutes of waiting

The food was poor and the drinks incredibly expensive.

Restaurant meals and hotel drinks are a not cheap if not included in package..

Italy generally is not cheap and Gardone is no different with meals, drinks and travel all adding up - so be prepared -

You are also not allowed any of your owns drinks on the terrace including water .

Only draw back is the price of the drinks.

Only drawback is that the poolside drinks and snack bar very expensive.

The only criticism is that the drinks are extortionately and unnecessarily overpriced.

Our only complaint was that we had to pour our own wine and water constantly throughout the meal, the staff seemed to just walk past our table ignoring our empty glasses and ignoring the fact that we were pouring our drinks, It might seem a trivial complaint,

Very expensive drinks (wine and aperols), suggest visiting the local Spar 10 mins walk towards Salo and stocking up.

My main issue was with the cost of the drinks at the bar.

They wanted to open this in their room for drinks before dinner,

Of course in a hotel of this standing the price of drinks at dinner and in the bar will always be fairly expensive

Drinks were expensive (two small beers 8 euros each, two gin and tonic 12 euros each),

but, as the price of the drinks was quite high, we did not sit there.

The hotel drinks were expensive which was a shame as we liked to sit in Winnie’s Bar occasionally.

however seems standard almost everywhere else and the drinks here are extortionate.

However, as mentioned in other reviews prices of drinks were ridiculously high, and to charge €5 for a soft boiled or poached egg when the chef is stood making omelettes is incomprehensible!

Hotel not very disabled friendly (dispite many old/disabled guests) and the price of drinks was a little high.

The food was great plenty choice for breakfast and dinner, it is an enjoyable experience and never rushed, dress code for dinner is long trousers for men   ladies smart casual same as most hotels, as many people have said drinks are expensive compared to outside the hotel, around 30 euros for a bottle of wine and 5 euros for bottle of water

Lots of people have complained about the prices of the drink- yes it's expensive.

Drink prices as many have said were extortionate so we like most other didn't drink there in the evenings.

It has a fantastic location, staff are very friendly and please visit Mirko at the pool bar.

Loads of restaurants on the lake side and in small squares, all friendly and well priced.

From the moment we arrived we were greeted by the most friendly and helpful reception team who were happy to assist us when we arrived in our hire car and not sure where to park.

The housekeeping team made sure we had everything we needed with an extra visit each evening to check if we needed more towels or toiletries 

Staff could not have been more helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble.

though once again the staff were friendly and service-minded.

as good as it was then with friendly and helpful staff.

The best place on the western coast of Lake Garda to spend relaxing days directly at the water (perfect for swimming), with beautyful view, a very nice breakfast-buffet, newly furnished rooms and very friendly staff.

A great building from the 19th century, private access to Lake Garda, a splendid bar, good food and well trained and very friendly staff.

Rooms carefully renovated - we had a suite with parquet floor and large balcony (room 258) -, friendly staff, excellent dinner and breakfast.

The reception and room cleaning staff were delightful - friendly and very helpful.

The staff were friendly and helpful and were happy to advise us on places to go and things to see.

We stayed for 2 weeks in September and found this hotel to be very comfortable and the staff on reception always helpful and friendly.

If you are on a tight budget it might not be the hotel for you as hotel prices are quite high for drinks and you really need to eat at external restaurants.

but still be ready to pay for the premium.

But fortunately there's a little shop about 100m from the hotel that sells beer and wine at regular (uk equivalent) prices.

For the prices  charged, we were disappointed.

I would not go half board as they obviously have a cost control/ chef issue at present.

To make it worse, of an evening leaving the hotel for a walk you then passed many local restaurants with what looked like amazing dishes at a third of the price we had paid to eat half board.

A very poor culinary experience at a high price for half board.

Cooked breakfast is not kept warm and service isn’t what I expect in a 4 star hotel which is the most expensive in the area.

Poolside food for the price needs improvement eg club sandwich chicken perhaps!

As far as eating in the hotel - that was a tad expensive as was drinking with a beer costing 9 Euros (Ouch).

but it was very unacceptable & after that felt like the staff thought we were a nuisance but only wanted the room I had paid for, I definitely won’t be returning to this hotel even the hotel & food is very nice, will return to lake Garda but different hotel, avoid room number 269, nice room but you’re woken up before 5am from the noisy road 🤦🏻‍♀️

If you want a quiet, relaxing holiday, stay away!

All our time at Grand Hotel Gardone has been relaxing and high quality.

The pool area was clean with plenty of sun beds and towels or you could choose to sit on the decking overlooking the lake..

Of an evening Winnie’s bar was a relaxing way to wind down with a drink and entertainment all looking out over the lake while watching the sun go down.

The outside seating areas in main restaurant and bar were relaxing.

I’d recommend this lovely hotel if you want a quiet relaxing break, and as a great location from which you can tour the lake.

Finally after postponing our visit for over 2 years due to the pandemic we got to enjoy a very relaxing break.

It’s peaceful and serene and to wake up every morning and look at the lake is perfect.

The hotel is exceptional, with location, food quality, pool and relaxation areas not sure why this is not 5 star.

Pros - Views from the room overlooking Lake Gardone cannot be beat, so relaxing so sit out on the little terrace with 2 chairs to take it all in.

Peaceful and relaxing holiday in this lovely traditional hotel.

There are many areas for sunning and relaxing.

We will definitely be back, a very relaxing holiday with a stunning location.

We enjoyed the spa and sauna, very relaxing.

The restaurant was like the rest of the hotel, drab and uninspiring, 
with no staff.

We had a light lunch at the pool bar the day we arrived.

On the doorstep are a great many restaurants that provide an alternative to the rather expensive menu the hotel offers.

With a great story behind, my staying here was great
Even if the hotel needs to be renovated I enjoyed to stay here
I drunk the Churchill’s champagne, I swum into the Garda lake …
I ate for lunch a ceasar salad and a tasty tiramisu at the terrace ,I walked on the lakefront …

He gave us excellent restaurant suggestions and was so helpful, as well as making some lovely cocktails… particularly his take on the Pina Colada called the BBC.

We had planned cocktails in the piano lounge (named for Winston Churchill who enjoyed a negroni here [part true - Churchill; part made up - negroni])

A nice handful of Italian cafes and restaurants to choose from within easy walking distance.

Both were fabulous and great value (€70 to €100 for a substantial meal with plenty of wine).

The evening dinner was poor at best for a 4 * hotel.

.because once seated, you will be told this is your ‘forever’ table for dinner.

The food choices at dinner were interesting

Dinners were filling and tasty with the option of a salad from the buffet as an appetiser and deserts were extremely moreish.

I must admit there is an irony when British folks criticize Italian food.

Lunch was available at the pool area, and there’s an Al a carte restaurant too.

We had lunches there most days and food and service was very good.

but no one contacted me so the customer care was somewhat lacking 

Overall the stay was comfortable and the location of the Hotel is splendid , just a shame  about the food

Some great little bars / cafe close bye and some good restaurants which get very busy from about 19:30 
The ferry port right outside hotel is very handy once you suss the timetable out.

The view from the lake view rooms is outstanding.

Still it retains charm and one expects Hercule Poirot to appear around the corner at any time,

The rooms are very clean, you can’t beat the view of the Lake.

As a solo traveller was wondering about my room as booked a single.

Loved our stay here, perfect location, brilliant room with a fantastic view.

Thank you all at Grand Gardone, especially Barbara and the front of house team, Icognu, Guiseppe, Daniella in the dining room, Elio at the pool and the wonderful young woman who looked after our rooms.

I requested a room in a quiet location and was pleased with the room, the view and location in the furthest building!

The room was immaculate and was cleaned thoroughly every day.

This allocation apparently, is easier for the hotel, as wine unconsumed on the night, is marked with the table number and the room number and returned the following evening to the same table.

Also, when you book a “lake view” room, don’t expect to actually see the lake

Our room was an art deco junior suite and we are so pleased that we upgraded to this.

We booked a twin room with lake view with an extra bed for our daughter.

We had a superior lake view room that was clean and comfortable with chairs and a table you could sit at to admire the view..

The rooms are spacious, comfortable and all internal areas are air conditioned.

The rooms are well equipped and spotless.

but it’s charming and the staff and common rooms make up for all.

We had a lake view room with balcony, simply beautiful.

The charm of the place and staff will I suspect be lost , it was never perfect

The Hotel has closed and is up for sale the staff contracts have been terminated .

Staff were all helpful and kept the hotel looking great.

It remains a grand old lady full of charm sitting right on the edge of Gardone on the lake.

Would advise that anyone staying does so on B&B basis as there are lovely restaurants nearby serving genuine Italian food.we
We are going to go to an Italian restaurant in England to get an Italian meal as we didn't experience it at the hotel.

Reception is very attentive and resolves any issues quickly.

Every member of staff was polite, cheerful and could not do enough for you.

The pool bar staff were great with a special mention to Alessandro.

Maybe there is a chef or staffing crisis in the kitchen.

Delightful and most helpful staff in Reception.

Fabulous hotel right on waters edge, we had a junior suite which was lovely and spacious with 2 balconies over looking the lake, with everything you could want only strange thing was the electric sockets were like a European socket only with 3 pins (see photos)so my 2 pin adapter wouldn’t fit I managed to get last adapter from reception.

Two people I would like to mention are Barbara the manager who’s very helpful involvement saved a problem from becoming a disaster and Giuseppe our taxi driver ( separate from the hotel ) who was absolutely first class.

The only thing it has to recommend it is the position and view.

This hotel could not be in a better position for views.

Best to avoid rooms that directly overlook the pool as there were a great many children who were undisciplined and spent all day screaming and shouting and monopolising the Jacuzzi.

A small double bed with a view to die for overlooking the lake.

This, for us, resulted in a stand up argument with the maitre ‘d, in full view of the restaurant patrons on the following evening.

Despite a wonderful view, I wouldn’t stay again at the Grand Hotel Gardone.

The room was stunning, enormous and had a balcony overlooking the lake.

We stayed on half board basis in a family room with lake view and balcony.

It thought the hotel itself, the staff and its position were fantastic, the pool area whilst not massive was never crowded and there was never a problem getting a sun-bed, and the views over a lunchtime drink at the pool bar was a pleasure not to be missed.

And the lake views and ambience are simply stunning which is what it’s all about really!

Lastly the chefs - Amrid who made the most tasty omelettes for our breakfast, Dale and I wish you well, in all you do, and your colleague, thank you.

Thirdly, the dinner is small portions and very rich so as a vegetarian I have only the salad buffet and skip the main set menu.

The food was exceptional, delicious and great fine dining from breakfast to dinner.

Friendly staff, comfortable room, delicious and varied food at breakfast and dinner - we stayed 2 weeks and don’t think the menu was repeated.

The hotel is exceptional, the food is delicious especially evening meal.

We had breakfast and dinner which were very varied, beautifully arranged and I can say it was a gourmet experience.

I  was half board and so breakfast and dinner were in the hotel.

The food was delicious and in the evenings some of the courses looked like art on a plate.

Dinner was salad buffet starter and dessert was buffet.

Then a menu choice of starter and main course served at the table, finished with a desserts buffet.

Stayed half-board and the breakfasts and dinner were exceptional.

Breakfast is tasty and has many options, including a chef offering omelettes, poached eggs etc.

Meals were always delicious and well presented.

Friendly staff, clean comfortable rooms, delicious food, lovely pool and they still offer free coffee, tea and cake every afternoon at 4 o'clock!

Breakfast and evening meal were excellent.
