And what a pleasant surprise then the rooms & beds are designed for one to feel like a page on their history books.

We stayed at this property on the way to and back from EBC and was pleasantly surprised by the clean and comfortable rooms provided by the hotel.

I've been to Shigatse a few times and this was the first time I felt very comfortable in my hotel as if there was always someone available and willing to help if needed.

The moment we checked into Gesar Hotel, I find the interiors.

but each room is actually furnished with stuff that makes you feel as though you're back in some history textbook.

This hotel is built in traditional Tibetan Style,and is truly great to feel the spirit of the country and its culture during your stay.

Strange smell in bathroom which was unpleasant.

I'm only bugbear is the smokers everywhere in the hotel, and they obviously don't care about indoor smoking.

It was warm in January, hot water was available 24 hrs and I got a non-smoking room that didn't have any bad smells.

So the stench of smoke while you sleep was uncomfortable.

Only negative is hallways -- ripped up dirty rugs, very smelly.

In the first room the shower drain emptied up out of the drain into the bathroom; in the second, the shower sides emptied into the bathroom so in both cases the bathroom was wet.

Smoking is allowed in the hallway so the corridors smell of smoke .

Many smell of cigarettes since smoking is allowed in a Tibetan rooms.

I did not like the green rubber bath mates on the bathroom floor which smell bad.

While showering halfway, the water suddenly turned scalding hot which made it pretty much impossible to bathe without getting first degree burns.

be careful if you sleep opposite the air conditioning and blowing hot air, it dried up my nose and i had problem breathing in the middle of the night.

but it smelt awful so I didn't stay, friends said the chips were good but the rest wasn't great.

Without a goose neck, sewer smells will come up.

The public spaces isn't filled with cigarette smoke.

There is not much in this town, except for a place to stop and rest.

Not many restaurants nearby hence you might need to go to the town area or walk down to the right from the entrance about 700m and look for food.

Is a little out of town so can be more difficult to get around.

Do note that the hotel is not located in the town centre.

If you would like to explore Shigatse by foot, the hotel is not located near the town's attractions

In central part of town if you wanted to wander to shops/restaurants.

Don't they know - professionals use duct tape:-) Anyway, the spray was minimal and only mildly annoying.

but the breakfast room was dark and suffocating and not at all pleasant and  the breakfast was poor.

The room had an en-suite bathroom with hot water and a heating unit on the wall which is vital as it gets very cold at night in Tibet.

The second night the A/C didn't work and it was pretty miserable!

The corridors are very dark and in the morning the lighting is set off by motion sensors

After complaining to the front desk, miraculously power was restored to our heater

This time the story was that the heater was broken -

Breakfast had good wonderful choices of Tibetan food and several western dishes too.

We were told that breakfast in this hotel is among best breakfasts in Shigatse so we were rather surprised in the morning.

It is OK for one night, fairly clean (smells of smoking in rooms).You would only stay here because you are going through the town.

Our room was clean and big. It was warm and when I asked for it they turned on the hot water (i think they just put it on in the evenings!)

The beds were up to Western standards and provided a peaceful sleep besides the hotel's altitude at 3850 m. The bathrooms were clean.

The Tashi choten hotel is a comfortable and Tibetan style hotel In Shigatse city ,mostly obviouly it best location go the Monastery and old city .it is convenient to visit surround place for traveler really make easy .

We were very comfortable with the stay here, especially while on the way back to Lhasa after a stint of stays in tents and guesthouses.

This hotel has nice, comfortable, sunny rooms.

The bed was comfortable, the room quiet, and there was  reasonable wifi - able to get online news from BBC and ABC as well as messages on Viber.

the first night we stayed in Gesar Hotel and then second time we stayed in Tashi Choeta hotel, this hotel is very nice, big and comfortable hotel.

The Tashi Choten Hotel is near these landmarks: Nianchu River, Gongjue Linka Palace, Natang Temple, Lama Palace, Naku Temple, Xialu Temple, Nadang Temple, Luozi Peak, Ribu Temple and Kangbala Mountain

Public area restrooms atrocious with overpowering smell of urine emanating into corridors including directly outside restaurant.

On one stay, our hallway was littered with construction trash from work being done on some of the rooms.

Corridors leading to rooms are long and mostly unlit.

but they are at the very end of the corridor - which isn't much use.

Not such a big deal except for the hallway lights are activated by motion sensors that didn't all work - kind of a problem at night.

The hallways and public areas were very poorly lit.

however, the corridor's carpet shows some wear and tear; mind you the hotel is only a few years old.

Its a huge place - the first room we were shown was probably a hundred yards down a long corridor and round the other side of the building - very nice

Tashi Choeta Hotel is a great place to stay and location is nice for walkabout and do some shopping if you have free time.

- The hotel is within walking distance to many restaurants, a grocery store, deserts locations and other places in town.

We felt welcomed and enjoyed the location close to the market and monastery.

The hotel has a good location in the heart of Shigatse.

It was the perfect location as we wanted.

Knowing China well it was a welcoming surprise to find such a hotel in a remote location.

The location of the hotel was good and it’s close to a supermarket, restaurants and a Bank of China ATM.

but the condition at this hotel is poor to average.

Late getting set up, dirty crazed plates, no one plugged in the coffee urn, poor service, etc.

The wifi is poor and once connected cannot access many sites

but a long way away from the lifts and with very poor wifi reception.

Unfortunately due to the poor cleanliness standards we would not stay here again.

I agree on the comments re poor cleanliness as there was a mat of  hair in the shower and a hair on the sheets of the bed.

The positives
- Rooms are of large size and can easily accommodate the chairs put in the room.

but there is a kettle in the room and we had a good shower with plenty of hot water.

During the stay, I was sick and the whole hotel staff and the manager himself take care of me by taking me to clinic and ordering oxygen tank in the room.

The room was good enough sized and the most important shower was great even in -10 degrees.

Its a reliable hotel with comfortable rooms and is within easy distance of the Tashi Lunpo Monastry, as well as being 5 minutes walk from the local "tourist type" market.

Thank heavens for the Burger King almost next door who I visited for our morning coffee shot before the long toad journey back to Lhasa.

The bed linen as well as towelling were clean and white.

Room's hardware is the best in the city, comfortable beds, hot water, heating (evening till morning), no power cuts, and next to a Chinese department store.

A great modern hotel and room with 2 three quarter beds, expansive shower, great nights sleep.

The lobby is opulent and the rooms provide a very comfortable stay, what with a spa-like bathroom and heavenly beds.

The sheet, blanket,pillow are all very good quality.

Outstanding bathroom, incredibly clean and soft beds, an highly sophisticated ambiance and any kind of confort.

Breakfast was a bit chaotic and has a lot of Asian options

Breakfast is only chinese not possible to have a black coffee and the restaurant is freezing cold you have to eat with your parkas - you can smoke everywhere even elevators!!!

The hotel’s clientele seems to be mostly Chinese and the breakfast is understandably geared mostly to them, so it was hard boiled eggs and pretty awful bread for us!

but pathetic buffet breakfast with no English speaking staff.
