The rooms were clean and the bathroom very much so.

but the room was clean, although the beds were institutionally narrow.

We had a bright, clean room with narrow twin beds which were very comfortable and a well-designed small bathroom.

One could choose between automatic HVAC or open windows.

Not all that  comfortable especially if you have  a major function to perform  and the heating panel is  on and there is no extraction fan in the toil.

There is no aircon so blocking them out is impossible.

however, as it did not have air conditioning, I requested that we move to a smaller room that did as I don't tolerate the heat well.

Ideal location, modern rooms with really comfortable beds, amazing restaurants, lovely sitting areas inside and outside the hotel to visit.

We loved the CD in the room, jacuzzi bath and super comfy bed.

Our second floor room overlooked the church and was extremely comfortable, particularly the super king sized bed with its gorgeous bed linen.

Good size room, bed good, shower good, staff good.

The handwoven mohair throws on each bed send me flying to the factory down the street so I could purchase gifts.

They are best know for their fluffy mohair textiles.

Be sure to bring a blanket, bottle of vino & cheese for the perfect picnic.

The linen in the room was perfectly pressed and the room itself spotless.

The bed was comfortable (not too common in southern Europe), lighting was plentiful, and there were two nice lounge chairs bracketing the round central table.

Stayed at Echaurren for one night on the 2nd of January, beautiful well appointed room, tasteful décor and modern facilities, double shower unit, wardrobes were well thought out and could be accessed from either the bathroom or the bed room.

This was one of the very few hotels that fit the 3 bed for my son.

The huge bed was uber comfortable and the desk / shelving behind cleaver in its practicality.

The bed was extremely comfortable, and we slept soundly.

We bought some nice wool scarves and pillow at the local wool shop.

The bed "floated" in the middle of the room against a headboard with built in reading lights, outlets, etc.

Bed & linens of highest quality along with a beautiful mohair blanket from nearby Artesania Textil(go visit).

The staff was friendly, room was clean and had a very comfortable bed.

Ezcaray is a lovely little town, with a variety of bars and restaurants (mostly closed when we were there obviously), very pleasant to walk around.

After driving through towns closer to the Rioja wineries, we are glad we stayed here.

The old town behind the hotel is charming and worth a few hours of exploration.

I recently had cause to stop in the lovely town of Ezcaray, the hotel itself is perfectly located, central yet quiet, pleasant if small terrace area out front.

The historic small town of Ezcaray is close enough to the La Rioja wine region to make it a serene and charming base for vinous exploration.

We stayed for three nights whilst touring La Rioja region of spain and wish we had stayed longer, the town of Ezcarey is lovely with lots of bars, shops and restaurants and the Echaurren is the jewel in the crown.

I had the wine flight which was very generous and added to the overall experience.

Our dinner, desserts and wine were heralded as one of the highlights of our trip.

Note, if you are in the area to buy wine, the location is about 30 minutes from Haro and a little farther from Logronõ.

We recently stayed with friends during our wine trip to the Rioja wine region.

Well located in the ski village of Ezcaray, it is only a twenty minutes drive away from Haro, the Rioja wine capital.

We had assumed that being well located in the Rioja region the town was focused on food and wine--not that those are in short supply.

The two restaurants are each outstanding, meriting a visit by anyone who enjoys fine dining and excellent list of local wines.

The food, wine and service was exquisite.

We loved the location in this tranquil valley close enough to Rioja wine regions in Haro and Logrono.

Wonderful quiet village among the hills ( with great walking hikes ) and close to Rioja wine district.

Use their knowledge to help explore the great wines of Northern Spain .

It was nice to have complimentary mini bar and bottle of wine.

Go to Casa Masip for dinner or breakfast - amazing wines and food for amazing prices and a great atmosphere.

Amazingly cozy room with a complement (bottle of wine), delicious restaurant (quite pricey, though) and a great chimney room. Forgot to mention that on the night of our stay we were the only guests in this hotel))

We were welcomed with a basket of wine & snacks.

The additions of the free wine, snack box and mini bar plus a snack bag for the journey home were very nice touches.

The upgraded room did come with some complimentary snacks and a bottle of wine, which was a lovely touch.

The extra touch of a complimentary bottle of wine and water and grapes for the road was extremely thoughtful.

I was not disappointed, we had course after course of interesting dishes starting with most delicious olive oil and salt on bread, red wine caviar in a pate, croquettes, and some dishes just called things like "dish of a mountain spring air".

This is important as access to the old town by car is very limited.

Our only complaint was access by car - the directions on the road signs are wrong, and the directions given by the parador are poor.

although the access is a little daunting / tight!

though a pedestrian area which we initially could not get access to as there was a parade at the cathedral.

but then the car has to move and parking is in an underground carpark (chargeable at Euros 14 per night) with lift access into the hotel.

If travelling by car note the Parador's instructions on how to access it  through the bollards that protect the pedestrian area.

The place has very limited vehicular access, which is why I said hard top find,

It lies in the middle of the old town and is accessed by a narrow bollarded street which is a bit confusing.

It was incredibly difficult to access this hotel in our minivan as the streets are so narrow that the threat of getting stuck is palpable.

Having made a pig's ear of unloading the car ( in my opinion) being the cause of a £1200 camera smashing on the floor they refused any access to the hotel manager because he didn't speak English.

After you check in you can park in the underground car park and use lift for access.

but if you are driving please know how to get in the controlled access area before you arrive to avoid frustration.

Car access complex as old village is fully pedestrianised.

Having driven round the outside of the old town a few times, we discovered that the traffic bollards seeming to prevent entry to the old town drop as you approach them, permitting access!

Arrival access into the pedestrianised plaza was tricky this time because of a Festival and Sat Navs can get confused,

The meals were eclectic - what a mixture of the weird and wonderful for the wrong reason.

The hotel is a wonderfully interesting historic building.

The ground floor dining rooms, bar, lounge, and foyer areas have maintained the ambiance of a grand old building,

The building itself is interesting and predictably well maintained.

Paradores are always quite special, either for location or historic building.

A delightful old building , once used as a hospital, renovated in a lovely way.

Very authentic feeling old building, wonderfully located next to cathedral.

In a special building with a somewhat mystique and religous atmosphere, Just across the cathedral.

She was SO impressed with the interior of this Parador, the impression one gets when entering is amazing, and the history of the building itself is fascinating.

As with many Paradors, the building was incredible as was the church next door.

Part of the fantastic Spanish parador network of historic buildings which are all over Spain, in lovely historic buildings, all of a good standard and reasonably priced.

This Parador is one of the old Parador buildings.

There is not one decent chair in the whole (huge) building.

The Parador de Santo Domingo de la Calzada is a beautiful building with lovely seating areas, great rooms and a very pleasant dining room where breakfast is taken.

The building is very old and quite charming, the commons areas are comfortable and the breakfast buffet was quite adequate.

The twin room was spacious, clean and comfortable and a good fit with the rest of this impressive historic building.

This Parador is all wrought-iron and stone and is a wonderful building.

Our room was fine with a balcony on the corner of the building with a beautiful view on the square and the cathedral.

History is in the building and also right outside.

This parador (there is another in the town) is located in the heart of this small historic town in the plaza adjacent to the main church.

The Parador is located in the former hostal for pilgrims on the Santiago pilgrimage route on the main square of this town in La Rioja.

It is a great value for the money and the location is not only interesting

The location is very good if you want to visit the vineyards and the best restaurants of the region.

From the moment we arrived we felt comfortable,  the young man at the desk was courteous and helpful, the room was impeccable, the bathroom large,  and having parking was a plus as the old part of the city is closed to traffic.

Our room was fine except for a persistent smell from the bathroom drains, solved by running water into the system.

but have a nice view of the church and tower, and if one has the window open, cigarette smoke from those smoking below will come into the room.

although personally I would prefer if they would not allow smoking there, especially cigars. .

They used an Ozone machine which smelled heavily of Chlorine.

Breakfast was sadly lacking, stale coffee and indifference to request for fresh.

Breakfast was disgusting, the ham and salami etc was off and the smell of it was disgusting.

He made it quite clear that he found us to be disgusting flithy pilgrims.

The couches in the lounge are worn and smell of the times when one could smoke indoors.

it smells deliciously like black licorice in there.

However the seating outside reeked of tobacco smell.

This can be a busy hotel given the town is an importance stage on the Camino and also attracts a lot of Spanish visitors.

Beautiful Parador in the Centre of the town.

Other than the church, there aren’t any other must see sights in the town.

This Parador is in the centre of the town and makes it easy to visit the main attractions.

I am stating tonight in Córdoba, another excellent hotel with fantastic views of the town.

Our room was very spacious with glorious views of  the old town.

Santo Domingo fits the description perfectly, right in the middle of the town, an easy walking distance to local sites and restaurants and bars.

The parador was interesting, right in the middle of the town, great for a one day stay,

We were lucky in being at the town for a Mass in the adjoining Cathedral at which a group of musicians were playing and they gave an impromptu concert in the square in front of the Parador after the service.

The environs of old town are charming and several good restaurants of quality can be found nearby as well as ‘good deal’ places.

All the old town is within a 5 minute walk.

After a weeks biking in Spain it was nice to spend the last two days relaxing in this hotel and the beautiful town, I have seen some amazing views while travelling.

Loved staying in this former 12th century hospital in the historic town of Santiago de la Calzada in the heart of the Riojan wine region and on the famous pilgrim's walk to Santiago de la Compostela.

After a while I returned to reception, had to wait to speak with someone and was given the same instructions!

If you like an overly priced (expensive) breakfast

If you like bland non-descript rooms (the bed was good though) 

If you like to wait during a 5 minute phone call by reception (before checking in) on why the other parador referred you to their sister parador (this one) with a wrong room price.

although driving up to bollards and waiting for them to lower is a bit challenging.

We were also dissapointed when we had to wait for our room, as it was not ready on our arrival.

We like  to get up early and get a head start on the day's walk so did not want to wait until the Parador dining room opened.

After waiting for awhile, we went to the bar and asked for service.

I had to hunt down my order after some 10 minutes of waiting for it to arrive so the pleasure of having a nightcap in the atmospheric and handsome hotel lounge was somewhat blunted.Given that there was only one other couple in the place at the time, this was rather disappointing.

but not worth more than a night - move on to the next parador - but right across the street is the cathedral with its famous birds - wait till you get there for the story!

Jose Angel and his team create an amazing breakfast and everyone is so friendly.

The breakfast is  THE BEST HOTEL BREAKFAST we have ever had.

The hotel was so nice, breakfast as well.

This wonderful place was the highlight of our holidays: beautiful, spacious room with nice views, wonderful breakfast, so nice service, always friendly and helpful with a lot of recommendations, charming little village - everything perfect.

Breakfast was amazing, good choice of foods and fresh homemade yoghurts and jams.

Breakfast is included and there was a great choice of cold cuts, cheese, cereals, juice, pastries and some really delicious home-made little tortillas.

It was spotlessly clean and breakfast was delicious and loved by us all.

Breakfast is the best I’ve had in the region (and indeed it is quite simply an excellent breakfast), and will allow you to leave for your morning wine tasting with a full stomach.

Amazing breakfast with homemade Spanish tortilla, baked eggs, fresh fruit, artisan cheeses, cured meats and local pastries delivered daily.

Excellent breakfast, great rooms, individualistic style and very relaxing.

We had a delicious dinner at restaurant Aker, in the same village.

Breakfast is delicious, homemade and very generous.

We were traveling with our dog and were able to bring her too.

Surrounded by vineyards.The hospitality was excellent, warm, friendly and very helpful, also pet friendly!!

Mixture of couples (some with pets) and families stayed while we were there.

We have our border terrier and needed a dog friendly place.

The rooms are very clean, comfortable and stylish.

The beds are very comfortable, the themed rooms are clean, spacious and full of cute details.

The clean rooms, communal areas and patio/garden are all decorated in a nice original style.

There was a wonderful wine tasting in Haro included with our stay too!

The guided visit and small dinner offered at 15eur is a bargain, lots of details on the history of the house and its former owners, to finish with a lovely selection of Riojan cold cuts, cheese and wine.

While staying in the hotel there is a honesty caffe system that makes you feel at home and is very convenient, mainly when coming back late and craving for a glass of wine and some extra tapas.

They still produce their wines the old-fashioned way.

We would highly recommend the guided tour and wine tasting on a Saturday night too.
