Rooms are spacious, beds are comfy and the whole atmosphere is really social and friendly.

The 8 bed dorm we stayed in was clean, big beds, comfortable, nice shower.

Friendly staff, great kitchen, spacious and plentiful bathrooms, comfy beds and a Jacuzzi!

The hostel itself is a total winner - loads of great communal spaces, a good kitchen, central location, comfortable beds, wifi is strong and works in the rooms, great hot water showers, drying area for wet clothes post rafting, TV for Copa America games, cheap beer and best of all an amazing hot 10-person jacuzzi (did I just die and float to flashpacker heaven?)!

The facilities are first rate with comfortable beds, spacious social areas indoors and out, and a jacuzzi in the garden. The location is perfect; close to the market, restaurants (Gringo Mike's is a must visit!)

I stayed in a 10 bed dorm wich was very clean and comfortable.

The rooms (I saw) are well organized with an extra room in the 10 bed dorm to store your luggage or change your cloths.

Only 1 plug in the room so was tricky to charge electronics.

Kitchen closes at 11pm and since I wear ear plugs there was  minimal noise in the morning.

1 for the mosquito plug, 1 for Medellin, 1 for the flight, 1 for sticking up for us after our adventure on the river and the last one because you're from Melbourne!!!

The staff help organize all the adventure activities around San Gil and organize hostel group dinners and outings.

The hostel has a nice relaxed vibe with frequent activities like BBQ's and Tuesday Tijo, also they are more than happy to assist booking activities like rafting, paragliding, bungee jumping etc.

My friends and I extended our trip for a couple of nights with absolutely no problem, and the staff gave us really good recommendations for nights out and restaurants.

There are fun hostel activities you can choose to participate in for example, Sunday bbq and Tuesday night Tejo which are a really good time and a great way to meet fellow travellers as well as locals.

An exhausting day of adrenaline and excitement interspersed with the best food in San Gil (Gringo Mike's - outrageous US-Mexican portions).

Later still, was Tejo Tuesdays, Macondo's way of getting their guests to meet and greet over cheap beers while playing Colombia's official national sport, Tejo.

The Hostel is in a nice neighbourhood, directly in the Center with many restaurants and Cafés nearby.

The staff were all very helpful, from showing and booking adventure sports, recommending were where to eat, and even returning money I had left lying around to me.

It was a huge and immaculate room with hot water and a great view.

Rooms are clean and bright and the place is not to big, it has a second home feeling after the first day.

The dorms and private rooms are clean and spacious.The hostel also has a large kitchen, laundry facilities, computers and free wifi, hot tub, and a welcoming social area to meet others.

The place also has those little things like hand towels regularly replaced, cleaned wastepaper baskets organised kitchen and clean rooms.

Nice hostel, well located, clean rooms, friendly staff - would definitely recommend it.

I completely agreed with this philosophy and it was evident to see especially with the rafting company, Colombia rafting tours.

We had booked ourselves onto a rafting tour that started from San Gil at midday.

They also have a board that shows you all the tours, the times and the prices.

There were also free organized activities including a tour of the fruit market and tejo tuesdays.

but mountain biking tour was fully booked.

No need to go to tour operators, book your adventures right there, don't miss out on tejo Tuesday nights, sooooo much fun.

They provide lots on info on booking tours and the majority you can book direct via the hostel at no surcharge and collection from front door.

They have a hot tub, and can set you up with any tours you'd like through the tour company to white water raft, paraglide, hydro speed, etc.

The stuff is really really friendly and helpful..they organized a horseback riding tour which was great with a terrific view, nice farm, good stable, well cared horses, and nice lunch at the farm..we also did a rafting tour which they organized for us..they also made some phone calls for us which was important for planing our trip..and as we took the night bus from San Gil to Medellín we could even use the shower and facilities after the check-out..we can definitely recommend this place!!

Sean is an excellent source of local knowledge, and can organise you a spot on all the local adrenalin tours, plus give you information about local walks/multi-day hikes, swimming holes, restaurants etc.

Luckily for me, Macondo is a pleasant place to be stuck. From the arrival, you are given an extensive schpeal on all that San Gil has to offer and more--and you'll learn that most tours can be booked directly from the hostel (I booked the fabulous Bike Junkie tour--highly recommend)

There are plenty of nice single rooms, a few small dorms and one large (10 person?)

Great facilities, the staff are extremely helpful and polite and the tours available from the hostel are reasonably priced.

We stayed in room 6 on the second floor with 4 beds and a locked door.

The rooms were basic and the beds were really creaky, unfortunately this meant we didn’t sleep very well whilst here.

We stayed in a double room with private bathroom - the room was clean, lots of storage space and comfy bed.

Beds are clean and comfortable, hosts are super friendly and knowledgeable.

Comfy beds, good wifi, helpfull staff, laundry service, clean and the location is perfect.

The rooms are very clean, the beds are pretty comfortable, the people are fantastic (Thanks Maria!).

I found the staff to be friendly, the bed's to be comfortable and loved the ambiance the balcony overlooking the square creates among the guests.

Unfortunately Sam's VIP was then fully booked (I hadnt pre booked) so I went and stayed in Sam's Mansion across the square, my dorm room was so spacious with nice comfy beds; downstairs is a restaurant

I had 2 nights in a private room with ensuite which was super clean and very comfortable (the mattress was not amazing

Softer mattress than we've experienced in Colombia -

but I saw them bringing in new mattresses when I was there.

The beds were comfortable enough and the wi-fi worked well enough.

It is very clean, has good beds and showers.

Has two kitchens, a swimming pool, and private bathrooms in each four bed dorm.

but that dorm is really an 8-bed dorm (with a wall in the middle but no door).

Lock on the door was dodgy and the even lost our key. .

Only things that could be improved are curtains before the glass door of the private room.

This city is on the more humid side so the hostel does well to keep the windows and doors open to keep air moving.

The room we stayed in was like a sauna, no ventilation whatsoever and the fan was neither use nor ornament facing the door.

The curtain on one of the doors to our balcony was missing, so we had to rig up a makeshift curtain over the window using the remnants of the curtain rod, a small blanket we travel with and some rubber bands.

Relatively cheap prices on beer and cigarretes.

The hostel is very clean and well located, next to shops, bars and restaurants.

It is located right on the main square and you can walk to any place for food or anything.

Did not gouge you on basics with reasonably priced craft/basic beer, water, food.

Sam's restaurant was the best food we had in this city and priced well.

Amazing staff, great TV and chill area, two kitchens, a pool and sauna, amazing terrace to eat your free breakfast on and just a really well run hostel.

The terrace area is a really nice place to eat, chat with others or chill.

Stayed there 3 nights, get helpful advices for activities with the family,  best restaurants.

When we asked if it was possible for us to go another night, as we wouldn't be in San Gil on a Tuesday, the staff pulled out all the stops to run the night for us, and even organised a mini-keg of beer for us at another bar after the tejo club closed.

It is right on the main city square, minutes away from the market, shopping mall and many restaurants and bars.

there is a pool, two kitchen, laundry service, massage possibilities and good priced beers in an always well equipped fridge.

The hostel was located very central so you had close to supermarkets, restaurants and atms.

It's a great place to be if you want to make the most of the extreme sports in the surrounding area as the staff are always happy to help recommend different tours.

The staff spoke English and we were able to book all of our tours through them which made it super easy.

Staff are helpfill and booking tours was hassel free, the location is right on the square wich is great.

You can book all your San Gil tours just at the reception.

We booked a few tours with them which were good too.

but fascinating as you tour with a local.

They book tours (like paragliding and white water rafting) with the best companies for the same price you get charged direct by those companies.

All tours and activities you want to book you can book from the hostel.

Besides that, they make booking all the tours super easy and transparent, the wi-fi works fine all over the hostel, there is a great balcony overlooking the main square, and the location is great (erm, right on the main square).

They have wonderful adventure tours and the city itself is quite a nice place.

The tour guides that stop in here are very informative and helpful.

So he will help you plan your tours and explorations.

We wish we'd stayed longer to be honest - give yourself at least 3 nights here so you can enjoy the tours they offer!

On the plaza is a great little breakfast place (scrambled eggs, arepa, coffee and juice for $2.50), plenty of lunch places, a grocery store, and lots of little bars.

Confortable rooms all of them are ensuite, the prices are verry low for the service you get, on low season you can have a double from 50000 ensuite the bar restaurant is just great and it has parking aea and is well located by the main square, and if you stay there you can get access to the swimming pool and all the facilities at Sam´s VIP Hostel which is the best backpakers hostel in San gil.

Matresses are very comfortable and because the bunk beds are made properly out of wood, they don't squeak or shake (which for me is always a plus).

Our private room was spacious and clean, we had a nice hot shower, comfy bed, the staff where amazing and the comunal kitchen was good.

My dorm room had 3 sets of bunk beds with its own bathroom.

However it's not a boutique hotel and you will be disappointed if you go there with this expectation.

although no self respecting hotel would do this, and it does advertise itself as a "boutique hotel" and not a Hostel, although it is clearly a hostel, and refused, unpleasantly, to refund any of this when we decided to leave early as we were finding San Gil noisy and crowded with few places to go in the evening.

The place is very run down, and should be labelled a hostel and not a boutique hotel.

I would not recommend this place unless you like noise and need to be in the centre of this crowded little town.

I paid 240 000 pesos, for a room, no services, no breakfast, room is noisy, staff is not nice.

A boutique hotel style - without windows for many rooms, others have wooden shutters, no glass (making is super noisy), wooden old bed (that's it in the room), bathrooms with electric showers and a sink from 40 years ago.

Also, its location its perfect, in downtown san gil, a lot of restaurants and things nearby.

The entire place was super clean, Sam and his wife are the most helpful hostel owners ever, and their pizza was DELICIOUS.

The hostel also offers lunch and dinner most days and has a lovely courtyard to sit and chill in, as well as two areas for hammocks.

We stayed for 6 days at la Mansion Hostel and we eat at the pizzaria downstairs twice.

They have in their place also great handmade pizza.

The rooms were very spacious end the food is great.

Big and spacey rooms, hot showers and great food at the restorant(a 300gr.

There is a very good restaurant downstairs and the staff was wonderful.

Best prices on low season, the house is beautiful and the decoration is great, try to get the rooms with balcony, the location perfect, staying here you can use all the facilities at Sam´S VIP Hoostel which is by far the best hostel in Colombia, try the steak at the restaurant (with ants sacue)and the milk shakes at Gringo Mikes

Its very cheap (40.000 pesos the night per person), super clean (im the most obsessed person with a clean room, so me saying that is a lot!

Amazing Hostel, right in the center of San Gil.

a plus is that is in the center of the city close to markets, restaurants and bars.

We enjoyed our stay for many reasons:
- Good location, close to the city center and the main square
- Very helpful staff, they even helped with a cover letter in spanish :)
- Rooftop with hamocks
- The proposed activities (rafting, biking, canyoning): good staff, good quality/price ratio
- Nice atmosphere
- Very clean

It is only a very short walk to the town centre where most of the restaurants are.

The location of the hostel is close to the center and bus station..

The location of the hostel was perfect, really close to the center.

The terrace and hammock area is soo lovely to relax in after activities and it looked like they had lots of social activities e.g movie night with free popcorn and burger night! !

They also have a nice and quiet terrace to rest and drink some beers that you get in the same hostel.

Clean rooms and very friendly and helpful stuff.

We had a private room which was clean, comfortable and excellent value.

Super clean rooms and helpfully staff, the environment always was perfect.

The rooms were clean and organized and really worth the price.

Staff efficiently booked tours & taxis & even helped get my pics from the bungee jump when the company was ignoring my requests.

It was also very easy to book adventure tours for each day and we chose to do bungee jumping and waterfall rapeling!

You could book several tours in the Hostel.

I had a great stay in the hostel :) Really friendly and helpful staff, tours can be booked easily with the hostel, everything is very clean, nice vibes, movie night, tejo and more activities in the hostel, good kitchen. All in all perfect :)

The place itself is very clean and central (2 blocks to the plaza), there's plenty of room to chill out both downstairs or up on the terrace, you can book numerous tours / activities at reception and last

Breakfast (included) is basic, most is prepared early therefore freshness is very low… breads and arepas were overheated so flavor and taste is very poor, fruits were fresh.

Rest of the week very poor service level.

there is only one down side the breakfast is of poor quality and has to be improved imideately.. anyway apart from that you can not go wrong booking this place.

but certainly the hotel suffered from some poor management decisions and problematic policies that diminished our experience signifigantly.

The massage was so relaxing and done professionally.

but feels like a retreat away from it all.

The rooms are simple yet very clean and comfortable, the location (10 minutes outside of Barichara) is tranquil and the views are spectacular. The restaurant serves wonderful breakfast (best arepas, ever!)
