Stong (for Brazil) WiFi, great breakfasts lasting all morning, a small pool for an afternoon cooldown and the secret sauce is the happy hour of free Caipirinha's, which brings everyone in the hostel together, making plans for the evening, the next day and beyond.

Generous breakfast, nice cool pool, excellent Wi-Fi and the icing on the cake free alcohol for a whole hour.

Nice Breakfast, nice pizzas and the zulu restaurant was delicious, we could enjoy tipical Brazilian dishes and we were amazed by food!

I got there very early and they let me have breakfast which was yummy.

Great room, great reception, great breakfast, great location, great facilities.

The sumptuous breakfast and free happy hour have already been mentioned frequently in most other ratings.

Firstly I arrived and was told the dorm was closed so I was being moved to a private room for the night with two random guys, one much older gentleman and another guy.

I have only one minor comment to make and that is that as a slightly older traveller it was a little tricky getting up and down from the top bunks.

I'm a bit older than the usual clientele, and so booked a private room rather than a dorm place.

Mostly young backpackers who are into culture, some older backpackers.

I think he prefers his dogs to his guests.

The breakfast is yummy, and the dogs are super friendly.

The amenities and rooms are great (we stayed at the dog house and had a nice private room) and we loved the famous Caipirinha hour (for 1 hour the Caipirinhas are on the house and you get to know all the other, nice guests).

There is a pool in the back for chilling and a really cute live in dog.

Two enormous and charismatic dogs roam around too.

Our room was in the "dog house", a separate premises around the corner from the reception common areas etc.

The place is very safe and their dog Spartan is awesome.

There are 2 best dogs zulu i tango if i remembered well so sweat and cute ,even turtles . in the evening is happy hour and free caipirinhas (better than in the any bar ) but in the morning surprise :P best breakfast

The two dogs gave the hostel a really homey feel and the breakfast was fantastic.

Cozy hostel in pelourinho with homemade guidebooks, a couch&cushion laze spot, two great guard dogs, a huge half-day breaky, free happy hour caipirinhas, a 10R walking tour, hammock in our room, small swimming pool, wood picnic table with beach umbrella, good security (needed for the neighborhood), and a tab system for drinks from the cooler. Amazing!

The common area was also quite smelly and damp.

I explained to him I was unhappy about being moved to a private room with a much older man on my first night which stunk and his response was better to stay there than in a dorm full of builders?!

There are two big friendly dogs around which do smell a bit as previously mentioned, probably the only negative thing I can think of.

But my biggest complain is that, despite the fact that the dogs that live there are beautiful and well behaved, the whole place smelled like dog.

One night I came back with a very bad cut foot and the staff gave me bandages and disinfectant to help me.

Note on the dog house - it smells a little of dogs so I assume the 2 big dogs that reside at the property during the day sometimes make this their sleeping place.

The location is perfect, in a nice street in the middle of the old town.

The location in pelourinho is also ideal for seeing the old town, museums and easily getting to and from the beach.

Great location in the old town of Salvador.

After one year travelling was the best choice to relax in a big town.

We stayed there on a Tuesday night - which happens to be party night in the town centre, so danced the night away to Samba music.

Such a good hostel, location is perfect (old town), staff is super sweet, the breakfast - YUM (I mean they even have guacamole, and their juices.

We were concerned about security in the Old Town before we arrived,

The hostel is in the middle of the old town.

Location is great and right in the middle of the old town.

The hostel ist perfectly located in the heart of the old town from salvador.

This is great for a solo traveler like myself as it meant meeting everyone and finding friends to go and explore the town with at night.

He is a natural born host, always taking care of everybody, making sure we connect and meet other guests so our stay is even more memorable.

The staff is cool, the wifi works very good, the breakfast is very nice, and the happy hour with free caipirinhas is really fantastic.

The WiFi works pretty good and the breakfast was very impressive.

And there is, of course, what can be explained: great location, helpful and friendly staff, excellent Wifi in all the rooms due to several modems in the building (unlike most hostels in Brazil), amazing atmosphere, a pool and the best ever breakfast until 12, with so much variety and the best juices!!!!

I couldnt connect to wifi most of the days I was there, and since I was travelling alone that was not too great since I couldnt let my family know that I was okay.

Clean rooms, good wifi & a lovely breakfast till noon, would definitely recommend!!! !

It's really easy to meet people and to make friends (thanks everyday free caipirihnas from 5pm to 6 ^^). Wifi is free and never mess, breakfast is amazing (juices, cakes, ham, cheese, coffee, fruits.  )

Other than that, breakfast on till 12pm is AMAZING and the wifi was the best in Brazil.

This turned out to be really nice - was quiet enough to sleep at night, had descent internet and nice dorms.

Also great lounge with good internet for watching the World Cup.

Wifi runs without any problems and at the reception they have also a computer.

The womans which clean and make really,really very nice breakfest are always friendly and everyone do her job very good.The hostel have internet and a chilling room with a television.

There is also an annex that is quieter and has better internet if you need to work while on the road.

Additionally, there was a significant water leak in the hallway on our floor one night.

Bathroom needs deeply cleaning and repairs urgently.

but needs more shade both from the sun and from the rain with the frequent showers that salvador has.

Small rooms with a weird bathroom layout.

Although seeing several complaints with same content (2014- now), nothing has changed: still fungus in the bathroom, broken toilet, noisy refrigerator, filthy mattress, dirty floor, cheap decoration, unloving furniture, and so on.

The tiny bathroom NEEDS IMMEDIATE RENOVATIONS.

The bathroom could use an update and a deep clean.

'Extremely' moldy bathrooms, filthy everything.

The bathroom sink girgles every time someone above or below uses the bathroom.

Yes, there were some details that could be renewed in our bathroom

The distance between the toilet and the wall made using the toilet very difficult.

but my room did have an issue with the sink not draining properly and the air conditioning left too much moisture in the air.

though the hotel rooms and bathrooms could probably use an upgrade and update to furniture etc.

fungus in the showers, broken electricity plugs, warned out fridges and from one day to another, do not expect to be cleaned.

BATHROOM *** Bathroom was considerably small,

the real complaints are that they have persisted with the Brazilian electrical plugs rather than an international one and that the bathrooms are still small.

but there was a refrigerator/mini-bar and toiletries in the bathroom.

however the toilet in the bathroom is in a weird position and tall people may struggle!!

in the hotel the breakfast is great, abudant and efficient.

We ate at the hotel and it was high quality food for dinner as well as breakfast.

Breakfast was plenty of options and delicious.

The breakfast of the next day changed our mind about the hotel: excellent food, marvelous tropical fruit and fantastic view on the ocean.

The dining area was large and spacious and there was the option of having breakfast outdoors on a terrace overlooking the ocean.

The breakfast is great: good variety and quality, has enough options of local and international dishes, many tables with a view to the ocean.

I stayed at the Mercure on a business trip and found it had everything I needed besides being a handsome hotel, with an ample, marble lobby, a great breakfast room, well provided and spacious, and spacious, clean rooms.

We must mention the wonderful lady at breakfast who cooks eggs / omelettes on demand.

Clean rooms, great staff, spectacular view overlooking the ocean, (nothing can beat the Ocean waves lulling you to sleep), There's a beautiful infinity pool, a very nice buffet breakfast and (yes, the selections did change (yaay).

Breakfast was plentiful and varied, with a very hardworking lady cooking omelettes and tapioca pancakes.

Be honest and don’t overcharge for something you cannot offer.

2 rooms were charged extra for breakfast.

I was deliberately charged for food I didn't eat.

Cleaning  room was not the best i have seen
During our stay we could not sign for breakfast at the room so we had to pay daily separately 70 BRL for 2 pers on a credit card.

Finally, when I was checking out I was billed for a bottle of wine that I allegedly had ordered by the pool.

When I came back home, I saw two charges on my card.

Despite booking through an agency we had not managed to make a credit card secured reservation.

Just one question: I'm still waiting for my A-Club credits (points).

We found we couldn't use our visa credit cards to book internal flights (this was with GOL and Webjet - equivalent of easyjet).

All that said it’s a nice location by the sea with a beach.

The hotel is well located in Salvador, the staff available 24h and the general manager follows carefully the hosts requirements.

This Mercure's best selling point are it's location, especially if you book the ocean view rooms.

While the location on the beach is very good, the rooms and the hotel itself need an upgrade or refurbishment.

The Mercure Salvador Rio Vermelho hotel is well located.

It is also perfectly located to many bars and restaurants which made it an amazing time for a first timer.

The street that it is located on is quite and has several amazing places to eat.

I stayed at the Mercure Rio Vermelho for three nights in September 2017, and it is a nice hotel centrally located in the lively neighborhood of Rio Vermelho outside of the historic town center of Salvador.

Although the hotel is a no smoking property, guests were smoking daily on our floor.

Tiles and grouting were mouldy and the glass was not so shiny as one would expect.

The bad, no balcony, mold, peeling paint, broken table, no coffee pods for the coffee maker.

The only thing the bothered me a little was a weird smell on the 3rd floor hallway.

Two areas that were a problem: during various times of the day, a strong sewer gas smell was noticeable in the room and I found the fitness center very basic and the equipment was not clean.

The only thing we got rid of was the smell of mold and the view into a dirt pile.

Was not very keen on the breakfast (the oil used for frying had very strong smell and caused the breakfast area to be smokey) there was plenty of bread/cakes/fruits/cold meats and cheese on offer and you could help yourself to as much as you wanted.

The only disturbing things was the mildly unpleasant smell in the room, likely a result of humidity and limited air circulation.

The room was dirty and it smell horrible.

The room do indeed smell a bit stuffy and need to be updated

The staff are not tourist/traveller friendly, speak no English, the hotel had a VERY bad smell and the location was on a very bad beach.

When we complained about our first room, we were shown about 4 other "non-smoking" rooms that smelled the same way.

I had a very smelly room and smelly were also the rooms of my colleagues.

The only bright spot are the employees throughout the property in all departments.

The staff are all excellent I can speak Portuguese so I’m not sure about how well they cater if you can’t speak Portuguese.

May I mention Mrs Paloma as I saw her name on her badge, she was really kind, and all her colleagues too.

Staff was always friendly and the swimming pool is very pleasant.

Could feel myself safe here and the reseption was very helpful.

I want to thank a very gentle woman, tall and black hair, who effectively assisted us with brilliant irony.

Keep up the great work management and staff .

Management is strong and competent, with a special mention for the magnificent food quality, including local specialties at gourmet levels.

Facilities are really clean, staff is super friendly and helpful.

Our 4-day stay was really excellent and swimming in the pool was a unique experience.

Wonderful hotel very chic  infinity pool , it was great that you’re able to swim in the pool in the evening .

- Swimming pool is breath taking, you can swimming and looking at the ocean at the same time.

Besides that, the hotel has spa facilities and a swimming pool, and ocean views.

but it is OK. Borderless swimming pool at the hotel more than makes up for it.

This has a privileged site on the sea with a beautiful swimming pool and good service and good breakfast buffet.

-	The swimming pool is clean, in a beautiful scene over the ocean/rocks.

As you'll see they really are minor, and are just suggestions, as our stay at the Mercure was fantastic:
- coktail recipes at the swimming pool bar seem not to be standardised, and depending on the day, can be a delight or "not so good" (too creamy and sugary);
-  also, I was really surprised that the Mercure doesn't offer a shuttle service from the airport - even a paying one, of course.

Make sure you have some time to enjoy the swimming pool, which overlooks the sea and gets plenty of sun all day long.

The swimming pool is the hotel best attraction since it is beach front and they offer massages and drinks by the pool.

Special words for the swimming pool, stupendous view on the sea, the breakfast, complete with a lot of local things (Choose the balcony for the view) and the reception staff, really helpful and understanding !

Positive: great view, massive pool and very well gym and spa facility.

Very well located (Rio Vermelho and its restaurants around), nice swimming pool and very good fitness room.

Good hotel, nice rooms (especially the seaview rooms), good facilities with the pool and gym and friendly and helpful reception (and good English).

We got two rooms with terraces with a view of the bay.

The room was massive with great shower and amazing views of the bay.

In our room at the back we couldn’t hear any of the noise from the street, and we had a balcony with a gorgeous view of the bay (the same view that the pool has).

The roof top bar offers glorious views of the bay and is an ideal spot from where to watch the sun set.

Pool is great to relax in, and rooftop terrace has wonderful views over the bay (particularly at sunset).

Our room had an amazing balcony with a gorgeous view of Bay of All Saints.
