Whether it was because I had a loyalty card (enrol if you're not a member) or because they were super busy due to the huge conference I was attending at Rotterdam Ahoy convention centre I am not sure.

But secretly took 2 nights off the credit card.

However, when I checked out of my hotel, I was charged £28.50 PER PERSON for breakfast.

Room 1218 has a problem that when you start the coffee machine the electricity goes off.. electric wiring problem for this room does not warrant a premium.. charging for this room upgrade was actually a downgrade for us.. 

Options for the breakfast should be improved.. options are not that great..

and that there is one plug to charge the phone.

We were billed incorrectly three times and had to have this reversed.

They didnt accepted cash to observe this rude policy, only our card.

though my credit card could not be read by the desk and was declined twice.

As I mentioned above, the beer was overpriced even with the discount card, and the breakfast was overpriced as well.

but upon arrival failed to give a good description where can I park and charge an electric car.

I go back downstairs to make sure our bags are not lost and we were not charged for the upgrade we did not receive.

Hard to believe there's a hotel in 2017 that charges you for high-speed internet.

They let us checkout a little bit later, without charging us extra.

The booking was paid for some 4 months in advance, yet the clerk on arrival wanted a deposit which was increased the second day without discussion and charged direct to the credit card.

However, it has been 18 days and the reservation is still charged to my credit card.

First day they have it at the lobby waiting for me and another day, they simply delivered it to the room without extra charge.

Had a minor problem with the hotel card not recognising my door.

Credit where its due - the hotel has managed to lend me a laptop (albeit because they neglected to say the business centre was closed due to refurbishments - either at the time I booked or subsequently) on which I had been relying as I am travelling "light".

but they did not and did not accept my Marriott card.

Executive Lounge is up at the 12th floor serving drinks, snacks and offers simple breakfast for elite members - super friendly and courteous staff with great service.

The staff are multinational, multilingual and super friendly.

Our stay began with a warm, friendly greeting thanking me for my loyalty with an early check in, explanation of my lounge access benefit and an upgraded room.

I received a friendly welcome, and check-in was extremely fast and efficient.

The staff is so friendly from checkin to security whom also do the Valet Parking.

They were uniformly helpful, friendly and knowledgeable.

Very friendly people at the hotel, excellent customer service, the rooms are spacious, clean and the food and lounge are great!

The Front Desk staff was incredibly friendly and helpful -- they had a special place to lock-up our bikes, helped us do that, spent time with us reviewing a map of the city to decide what to do and where to go, and emailed us additional information.

The staff at the Marriott Rotterdam was very friendly and helpful.

The hotel is in a great location in the centre of Rotterdam opposite the main station and all the staff were very friendly and the bar was a nice place to escape the inclement weather.

Ice was always available with a smile whether at the bar or by phone call.

I provided a review of this hotel and the GM wrote back with apologies.

Breakfast are a plus and also the reception and concierge service - very attentive and not overfriendly.

A very nice modern hotel in a very convenient location, offering  very pleasant and efficient service.

The front desk staff recommended 3 restaurants for us and we were happy with all 3.

Staff did what they could to help, including offering a room switch.

Location was amazing, friendly staff, room had a wonderful view, bed was huge and really comfortable and the iPad controls for the lighting, blinds and tv streaming was fab.

Despite these inconveniences, I have to say their staff is outstanding- very helpful, friendly people with a penchant for customer service.

but less thoughtfully there is no kettle or any kind of beverage making equipment in the room and no bottled water is supplied.

but the room was also too small, not practical with no real comfort (no minibar, no coffee machine, no complimentary water whatsoever).

Not having a kettle is a misunderstanding.

I booked it looking on the booking sites pics, the room is just a big bed, bathroom in the room, no closet, no fridge, no place to normally sit do some work, minimallistic,

The size of our room was ridiculously small and no coffee/ tea, cups etc in the room.

but coffee service is super slow a suggestion would be a machine as a complement to the barista I had to vait for almost 10 minutes for a cappuccino and usually is 10 minutes all time I have for breakfast and I prefer at least 2-3 cups of coffee during breakfast.

No hot pots in the room, so you have to get dressed to go down and get coffee.

(No roomservice or mini-bar option in the room).

The A/C could be more effective and better separated from other A/Cs in order not to suck in kitchen smell from somewhere else.

They don't even have a kettle in the room which is a basic thing and available even with the most budget accommodations.

but there is a "cafeteria" that is "open" 24/7 - by cafeteria, I mean a refrigerator like in a store, with items you can purchase when you want e.g.

however, is that there was no kettle in the room so to have an early morning or late night drink you had to be dressed and go to the bar to get hot water, (we always carry tea bags).

The only things lacking were a fridge and tea/coffee making facilities

I did miss a minibar or some amenities like hair conditioner or body lotion.

We missed a minibar and the rooms are a bit small.

but the room is small and has a small shower+toilet cabin instead of a separate bathroom.

but any longer the rooms are a too small to spread out and do some work if you are on business.

It rained one of the days i was there and the team provided umbrella upon request.

to help you out, they always, and I stress always, do so with a smile.

Also, we noticed that there were bath towels in the lift lobby on the 4th floor under the window as they were in such a poor state they were leaking.

For the price of this hotel you would expect that you could get in the lift and head to your room at any time without issues.

Elevator has a “security system” that requires a key insert,

From the moment you walk in to the lobby, the décor is dated, cold and unwelcoming, much like the weather at the time,  the staff did warm things up a bit, friendly and helpful, the lifts were old and temperamental, only complimentary filter coffee on offer in the lobby

It was worst at the elevator baks and hallways.

Only 2 lifts and 1 was not working - not good when people are trying to check out.

though one might wonder why assign a next to the elevator room while the Hilton profile clearly indicates to the contrary.

Staff seem to think that only rooms near the elevators are noisy

On the negative side, I had a room close to the elevators, and by the third night I begun to hear them.

However, the lifts' carpets were badly stained and need replacing.

My issue was that my room backed onto the service elevator meaning that there was constant noise when in operation, which was most of the day and some of the night.

There is also renovation going, (I think) as 1 of the elevators was out of service.

Only one of two elevators worked, and it had been that way for at least a week.

My fave hotel is going downhill, items not up to usual standards below

- rubbery overcooked eggs at breakfast
- overcooked pizza for room service and missed item
- one lift out of service for two days, 10 mins waits
- trash not collected, incomplete cleaning of bathroom

The most annoying one was lack of laundry bags believe it or not, asked about it three times and not resolved until my last night when too late so had to take dirty laundry with me to next destination.

In the morning when everyone is trying to get to breakfast or to check out, I experienced a 5-minute wait for an elevator.

Only two elevators which get really busy during rush hour, may cause waiting time in the morning

Room was not too big.

The elevators were goofy to navigate with card entry only.

Very much understaffed, long waits for everything, VALET was full and only 2 very slow elevators.

Staff were great - friendly and helpful - provided good service.

We very much enjoyed our stay, also because the staff were extremely friendly and helpful!

Rooms are average, bathrooms small and the only towel hooks are over the toilet!

At first there was no shower gel, body lotion in the tiny bathroom.

The bathroom was small, it had a walk-in shower.

Bathroom is just too small for two people
but its amenities were satisfactory.

but very basic; you could sit on the toilet, take a shower, and brush your teeth at the same time - so the bathroom is tiny to say the least; beds are like rocks and not comfortable; online checkin is worthless as they moved others and me from the room picked-not that it mattered since the rooms are basically all the same standard room anyway; the AC barely worked and was more about blowing air than cooling the room.

Only the bathroom was really small - for one person ok,

I have stayed in HILTON Rotterdam for 3 nights, business trip, excellent location, great staff and service, clean and spacious rooms, also convention, business  area very nice with excellent service.

Quiet in the room, great efficient AC, big TV (some English channels), nice shower and towels.

Room was very clean and comfortable, and staff went over and above to ensure a great stay.

Andrea the receptionist was amazing on my husband and son's check in.

But what truly steals the show is the staff.

The staff are one of the finest we encountered as Diamond members.

She was very welcoming and clearly took great pride in her job.

Front desk people were very helpful in suggesting what to see and do and gave very good recommendations and directions.

He was attentive, knowledgeable, and resolved any issues promptly.

The staff is superb and the amenities (like the gym) are all excellent.

is a main switch and when that's off, the plugs are off which can be problem when charging devices.

We were challenged we did tell them about sauna soon enough - we told them as soon as we tried to use it - and we have been charged full room rate (£250),  charged for facilties specifically booked and not delivered.

but realized that I would still be charged and the pair of receptionists said it wasn’t their issue but Booking.com’s who said it depended on the hotel.

Only the food we ordered w/ room service was below expectations and an additional room charge of € 7.50 for the order.

During the checkout I explain the situation to the women in charge, she did not want to refund me or find any compensation.

The problem for me was when my PA noticed an additional charge on my credit card.

Then after the most prolonged checkout experience ever, I found out (after leaving the property once the folio was emailed) that I was billed for a minibar charge!!

First I was told it’s a 7,5€ charge for room service: it’s not stated on the menu.

As I checked out they charged €60 euro!!!

On top of that they charged me double for some products!

Maybe a welcome/ congratulations card or some flowers?

Moreover they take a deposit on your credit card when you check in so not sure  why this is necessary.

If you drive electric, there are two parking spots for charging your vehicle.

but never asked for a credit card to be placed on file, causing a rather silly game of having to run back to the room to pay for a bottle of wine.

And then to have to wait 11 days for this pending charge to be released.

I don’t think they’ve got the hang of being part of the Marriott chain yet - it seemed like mine was the first Platinum card they’d seen!

however so bad that it is almost criminal in a hotel of this calibre to be charging good money for noisy rooms such as the one we stayed in.

but definitely a very good standard all the staff we met were friendly and very helpful,

After multiple request the room was not cleaned.

The biggest minus is the cleaning and the organisation.
