but extremely basic, no mirror  to sit and do hair, lighting needs improving no light in doorway near entrance where there was a large mirror, a bedside lamp did not work and the other lamps had bulbs not working!

No mirror in room above desk so had to use mobile phone to do hair etc.And to top it off,2 days without any hot water!.

Cold showers The doors were all corroded needing painting  chipped.

only 2 sockets in our room one which had a tv plugged in and the other a lamp, so to charge our phones we had to keep them unplugged, only mirror was in the bathroom, needs a mirror in the bedroom too, no shelf in the bathroom so toiletries all had to be on the floor, and of course no tea/coffee making facilities or fridge was not ideal.

but again this is very minor, shower is very powerful.

No mirror in our bedroom and TV didn't work (though that was not a big issue for us).

- Issues with the pool kept draining (could be fixed in future).

Also the builders managed to disconnect the hot/cold water one morning, meaning we had to go out for the day unshowered, and when returning the bathroom taps were spitting brown water everywhere.

Not much in room, no fridge, no mirror in room, only 1 bedside lamp.

The hotel was run down 
and needs renovation, the shower needed a thorough clean , moth eaten curtains , a broken window in the hall taped up , a duvet provided with no duvet cover .

The shower was the worst with mould, water stains and other peoples hair!!

My only minor negative would be that the water pressure in the shower wasn’t great.

No soap was provided for the first few days and reception staff did not understand what we meant when we asked for some.

No mirror expect for the one in bathroom.

Sink plug broken, mold around the bath, shower curtain dirty and the shower was so old it sprayed a fine spray everywhere - not for me or possibly a 4star.

There was a broken window on one of the landings, there were pieces of the fencing where the welding had come undone and rust was coming through the paint work.

The sink had been tiled down the back of the sink to close to the plug thing so your unable to fill the sink to shave etc!

While we were there the sun stayed on this area until approximately 13.00 
And finally an important part , the staff : 
They were all friendly and helpful 
I would highly recommend The Hotel Admiral 
Also something that maybe of interest is Marina Grande offers a great selection of boat trips and water sports

As mentioned bar staff friendly this could not be said for reception staff!

It’s a lovely location on the marina, the bed was comfy enough at the staff were all helpful and friendly at least!

but saw a scuba diving centre, you can do paddle boarding and kayaking from the marina, tour office offered a 1 hour tour of sorrento coast and boat excursions to Amalfi / Capri (unaware of pricing)

- Understandably the staff limited English but were super friendly and good service.

- On the reception staff, they also provided several extra pillows for us, let us store bags and use facilities after check out, booked us a taxi and were pretty friendly.

The only negative for us was the lack of a kettle and fridge in the room.

Rooms were basic (could do with a fridge and kettle)

There was also no kettle with coffee/tea in the room.

but do lack a fridge or any tea or coffee making facilities.

In the rooms, new towels everyday, could have done with a small fridge & kettle,

No coffee/tea facilities so we took a travel kettle.

There is no fridge in the rooms or any facilities to make a hot drink ,Then the constant drilling as the workers are still renovating the place when this work should of been done before actually opening!!

but they’re well cleaned- a mini fridge or kettle could go a long way!

- I'd laughed at reviews previously complaining about having no mini fridges in the rooms,

we asked for two glasses for our room for water and were given two cheap plastic disposable cups .

No fridge in room, no glasses and when requested given plastic beaker.

It was dirty with broken and with fixtures, lamps not plugged in, broken sockets and lacked a fridge.

In the room there was no place for two people stuff, no fridge or mini bar.

When I read there was no kettle in the room or room service, this forward thinking was a must.

Rooms are NOT provided with tea and coffee making facilities and no kettle.

but no wi-fi in the room (bar and reception area only), no fridge, no tea and coffee making facilities in the room.

A pleasant walk up to the centre of Sorrento via steps at the other end of Marina Grande.

but there are also local buses running from the Marina.

Great location in beautiful Marina Grande.

It is quite literally a flat 3 minute walk from drop off point at the marina.

Had a beautiful modern sea view room on the 3rd floor  with panoramic view of Versuvius and Marina Grande.

Take the bus or take the stairs - or take the Via del Mare.

We had a large balcony which had stunning  views over the marina.

The adjoining small, lively and photogenic resort of the Marina Grande provides a host of dining and drinking options all within a short stagger.

This hotel is all about the location; nestled into the cliff face at one end of Marina Grande it has stunning views of Vesuvius and the Gulf of Naples.

Marina Grand is lovely with lots of restaurants  and is out of the mad traffic of Sorrento.

Short walk to Marina Grande which is very vibrant, centre of Sorrento approx 1km.

Marina Grande is a small fishing village with 6 or 7 genuine fish restaurants and a lovely evening atmosphere.

PROS:
- Location - I don't think there is a hotel in Sorrento closer to the sea + you're less than five minutes walk from the small beach at Marina Grande (it has a beach club

but not with the atmosphere the Grand Marina has, with its restaurants and bars.

It is also very close to the seafood restaurants and beach on Marina Grande, and around 1km walk to the heart of Sorrento (though note this is uphill).

The hotel is in a great location I Marina Grande.

The hotel is situated right on the waterfront with great views of the marina ,sea , distant bay of Naples and mount Vesuvius.

The location of this hotel is beautiful, overlooking the Marina.

The hotel itself sits by the stunning Marina about 10 minutes walk into Sorrento.

Sorrento is an amazing place, the hotel Admiral has amazing views overlooking the Marina Grande, the Med and Mount Versuvius,

We had a beautiful room (306) overlooking the Marina Grande, the bay of Naples and Vesuvius.

The deck was good in the evenings as it was a lovely view of the marina.

Aside from that, the hotel is unique in being the only one right on the sea in Marina Grande, with a sun deck cantilevered out over the bay.

Positives, hotel was in a fantastic position overlooking the Marina Grande.

We had a chat with reception next morning - all staff are great - and were moved to room 302, partial sea view and overlooked Marina Grande.

180 degree views of Marina Grande ,Vesuvius , the sea and coast.

We arrived at the Admiral Hotel on the 28th of September, first impressions was very good, we had a room at on the top floor, the room was spotless, on opening our French doors to the balcony we had an amazing view of the marina and the sea view,

Our room was absolutely perfect and the view over the marina was unbeatable .

The terrace of the hotel which has the most incredible view onto the sea and the Marina Grande is what makes this hotel worth staying at.

We took our coffee from breakfast every morning and sat out at the table and chairs on the veranda overlooking the sea and the marina .

Location - First class right on the cliff edge overlooking Marina Grande which is a small vibrant area with great Bars and Restaurants.

The rooms were nice, we had a partial view which was great we just got to see the marina which was perfect for us.

Situated at the stunning Marina Grande where it seems time has stood still, the hotel is right at the end of the marina less the 10 feet above sea level.

Stunning setting, and we had a side view balcony which was still a fantastic view out over the marina!

Failing that there is a regular mini bus service from outside the shop in the marina that drops you in the heart of Piazza Tasso - it costs 1 euro each way and you buy your tickets from inside the shop.

but the little bus (1.6euro each) to Piazza Tasso or Bus/Train station runs evevry 10-20mins.

The little buses from outside the supermarket are so useful for getting up and down to the main railway station and Piazza Tasso.

Although tucked away the shuttle bus was a 5min walk (don't try heels with with cobbles) and drops you right at piazza Tasso.

It's a 10-15 minute uphill walk to Piazza Tasso to the main bars and restaurants.

The main square ''Piazza Tasso'' is closed to cars and buses at night time and is the place to be to take in the atmosphere and enjoy the local cuisine.

A local bus went up to town and the main Piazza for just over a euro and saved you the steep incline and then there was a scenic walk back along the coast which only took about ten minutes.

The local bus from Marina Grande is 1 euro which takes you to Piazza Tasso,

I'm aware that some chose to eat out - Aurora in Piazza Tasso was good if expensive.

No road traffic yet you can walk gently uphill into Sorrento in 10-15mins or catch a bus to the main square (Piazza Tasso).

This will take you to the main square (piazza tasso) and the railway station.

There is a mini bus service from the small shop in the Marina Grande that goes up to Piazza Tasso for a small cost of €1.20 which runs every 30 mins

To reach Piazza Tasso, the heartbeat of the town, it is necessary to ascend some forty or so inclined steps (step up, walk five inclined paces, step up) - or take a half hourly bus from the promenade, at €1.20 each way.

The main section of the town of Sorrento and Piazza Tasso are a short walk from the hotel.

the 'foreigners club' is a short walk from piazza tasso and looking down onto marina piccolo where the bigger ferries leave from.

The rest of the time we took the bus up from the marina which runs at 20 past and 10 to the hour (with reasonable accuracy), €1.20 for each person to buy 60 minutes time on the local bus system, Marina Grande to Piazza Tasso 10 minutes (Ticket T1 bought from the Tabac at the stop) and then we always walked back down which was always a pleasant experience.

The hotel is a good 15/20 min walk to the main square Piazza Tasso and is all uphill with steps so maybe not good if you have mobility problems.

but we managed it quite easily every day (sometimes twice) but there is also a little bus that runs up to Piazza Tasso.

Reasonably priced coffee shops and loved watching the world go by in Bar Herculaneum
in the central piazza.

Vincenzo is head barman, though his work is hampered by poor availability of branded products, with second rate local spirits offered instead and really fail to hit the mark,

but the quality of the ingredients was lacking.Given the poor state of the hotel and not being given the room we had paid for, we checked out after one night.

Even the coverage in the lounge is poor and any other guest downloading or watching video or tv drops the bandwidth to a snail’s pace.

WIFI is poor 1/10 and only available in the reception/bar area.

"Piped" music, particularly during the day on the terrace also poor - tended to be a dance radio channel which definitely grated!

This property needs a full refurbishment the food was very poor so we ate out most nights after giving it the benefit of the doubt for 1 night which was poor.

but the Hotel is rated as 4 Star which is a joke, the food was poor, lack of quality, regimental routine on so called Gala nights, we went out to eat on a few occasions at our own expense.

The only real minus point in 2019 is the very poor WiFi coverage, effectively only half of the lounge area.

Food poor, cheap and tasteless, even breakfast was cold greasy.

Service from staff at Reception was poor.

It has been mention on a number of occasions that the food is of relatively poor quality.

Breakfast was very poor, the hot food was often cold.

The location and views do not make up for the poor condition of the hotel.

There was poor direction from staff when it came to what was to eat and some had their main before they realised there was soup.

I cannot understand where this hotel finds such poor quality produce and how anyone in their right minds can enjoy the food here.

If you are unsteady on your feet or have poor mobility then it's not for you.

- dinning experience after two days of poor meals gave up on restaurant and ate out.

Note :Marina Grande has a great selection of bars and restaurants, so easy for dinner .

A lovely open plan area with a seating area that overlooks the water, truly a lovely wee place to sit and have a coffee or a cocktail.

There are multiple restaurants and shops a stones throw away.

The location at the end of the Marina Grande means you are close to some of the most highly rated restaurants in Sorrento.

Close to good restaurants and bars and short, pleasant walk to the city centre.

So many stunningly tasty restaurants nearby including porta marina, ristorante bagni delfino and soul and fish.

Walking up to Sorrento was a great way to walk off all the food you'll be eating !!

We were going to have one of our evening meals there

There are many good places to eat within a five minute walk; and as locations go this is one of the best.

The Location is excellent for the harbour with numerous good restaurants close by.

No explanation for this was offered and the solution was to go to a local fish bar every night.

Half board was included, a la carte meals

Food was amazing we were Half board - it was so creative and  delicious .

Frankie's Bar sells the best pizza - fab!

This has a handful of restaurants (mainly fish) and a few shops and bars also.

Great position with lovely views across the bay to Vesuvius from our sea view room.

The sea views from the rooms are exceptional and is far enough out of town to be comfortable

Its location has an incredible view across the bay of Napels, the view of Vesuvius from the ground floor while you eat breakfast of sunbathe is just amazing.

Couldn’t have been better placed or indeed have a better view!

but overall lovely staff, fab views from the deck and pool area.

But this hotel has the best location in sorrento and is by far the best value for the view you pay for.

Lovely clean hotel, terrace overhanging the sea.

Our tall ceilinged, stylishly plain room with the “Palace of Versailles” chandelier gives out  onto a balcony which presents you with what must be one of the best views of the Med looking out as it does across the sparkling waters of the bay of Naples, crisscrossed by the wakes of dozens of boats directly towards the looming outline of Vesuvius.

The location is great with wonderful views.

Location is fantastic and sea view rooms have a beautiful view of the bay.

but to be honest if I worked at a hotel with that view I’d be smiling.

Our room was beautifully simple and had a stunning view of the Bay of Naples, just like the dining room two floors above.

We had a room with a Seaview and Balcony that had fantastic views over the bay.

Our room was very comfortable with a large balcony boasting stunning views across the bay to Vesuvius and Naples.

The dining room has the amazing views of the Bay and the staff's service to the table was quick and extremely professional - I felt like a princess.

Brilliant location and view's over the bay.

The location is perfect with wonderful views over the bay of Sorrento and across to Vesuvius.

The pool was relaxing, with outstanding and prompt drink and lunch service, And of course, there are the incredible and omnipresent views of the Bay of Naples.

The hotel has so much to offer, from a lovely pool area, mini golf, spa or just relaxing in a beautifully furnished seating area overlooking the bay of Naples.

Couldnt fault the room as had amazing views over the bay of naples and vesuveus.

The hotel decor is so beautiful, so clean and in such a wonderful position overlooking the harbour and sorrento.

We had wonderful views of the Bay from our bedrooms that were very comfortable and cleaned well each day for us.

The breakfast was superb every day with friendly and helpful staff and a lot to choose from with the stunning views of the Bay of Naples to take in.

We spent days enjoying the incredible outlook over the bay on Naples and Sorrento itself.

The location is perfect, with far reaching views over the bay of Naples, including Vesuvius and the town of Sorrento itself.

Had a wonderful 7 night stay at Hotel Bristol, both our room and the hotel had the most amazing views across the bay and decorated true to the Italian feel.

Nobody seems to know it's there, it's huge and has a beautiful unrestricted view of the bay - also has fans spritzing mist to cool you down.

The rooms are spacious and clean to say the least and those views across the bay to Vesuvius are incredible.

The 8th floor bar is beautifully furnished with warm and friendly staff and just like the rest of the hotel, with a million dollar view across the bay of Sorrento to Naples and Mount Vesuvius.

The food was great, we were on half board basis and enjoyed relaxing dinners and the odd lunch.

We had the half board package and food was fabulous.

Our half board stay was ideal, as it allowed us a 'nibble' elsewhere if we fancided.

We were very pleased we had booked the half board option.

I don't agree with the previous review of the quality of the food; we were half board and the food was consistently excellent every evening with a menu that changed each night of the week and offered several choices.

The food was good and if staying half-board I'd recommend having lunch instead of dinner.

If you are new to this hotel (many guests return every year), I would suggest that you forego the full pension, and mix your hotel dining with local options in Sorrento.

The half board option accommodates for the odd extra meal in many of the super places you’ll want to visit.

We had booked a half-board package and thoroughly enjoyed all our meals.

Dinner - half board - was a feast every night.
