On arrival, I was disappointed by the man at the reception desk.

I arrived at the hotel at about 9am from the airport, travel weary after my long journey from Hawaii.

I arrived very early in the morning and my room was not available (2pm.

Peculiar is that you have to pay the full amount for your stay upfront when checking in - and when asking for a late checkout on Monday - they could not confirm that on Saurday afternoon.

Be ready to wait to check in as we arrived at 10am and waited 4 hours in the lobby as check –in is after 2pm (a bit puzzling as no one checked out for that 4 hours); exhausted from our two red-eye flights, we simply slouched on the couches and dozed, along with half dozen other guests!

If you rely on that for communicating with your friends in the other rooms or for checking in at your airline, you might go crazy sometimes ;-)

So if you are going to have some beach days, it is an option - the other hotels in the area are pricey as well.

When I arrived at this hotel they told me I was booked for 2 rooms for the first night.

These guys will not cope well with the world cup / Olympic crowd arriving !

Arriving on an early flight, the staff at desk was rude when asked about the chance of an early check in.

Right after us another couple were checking in and they were given the room right then and there.

Until I checked out two nights later there was no query about my sister or if there was anything they could do to make my stay any easier.

I checked out at noon, spent the day sightseeing and returned to the hotel to shower and relax before my flight home.

When I arrived at the hotel I thought I had made a mistake.

We arrived at the hotel at 9pm saturday night and got showed to the room, as soon as we entered i was shocked by the basic standard of the room wich was costing £180uk - $270us p night .

After I checked out on my last day, they let me leave my bag there until the evening, secure and at no extra charge.

We checked out a hotel down the road that was considerably more expensive and it was absolutely awful.

To our surprise our room was ready within an hour and a half (I guess after a guest had checked out early, and the cleaners had started work).

We were quite keen on arranging tickets to a soccer-game before arriving in Rio due to our limited time.

Read up a lot about this hotel before we arrived, we were a family of 9 including a one year old and 2 grandparents- yes the air conditioning is noisy

When we arrived they just ignored us and after asking a few times, they kept us waiting for more than an hour.

The fascinating mixture of old and new architecture is something to be experienced, not just the beach culture.

The hotel is also very well situated within Rio, very close to all beaches.

The hotel is located close to the beach and some of the rooms have ocean view,

3 or 4 blocks to either beach (Ipanema or Copacabana) same distance to the Historic Fort.

You could see the beaches, mountains, and favelas just a few blocks away.

The location of this hotel is absolutely perfect - situated right between Copacabana and Ipanema, 2 minutes from the beach, with all amenities around it's an ideal setting.

!only 5 minutes to main beaches in Rio and near all means of transportation.

The hotel is close to both Ipanema & Copacabana beaches and feels very safe with plenty of staff members in the lobby/downstairs area, who were able to also coordinate transport on several occasions for my friends & I. I booked the most basic hotel room and found it to be very clean.

It is 5mins walk to the beach with lost of restaurants around.

Water leak from ac, slow response and bad service, old furniture, no view from the window, unhappy front desk people, i paid for a breakfast

The hotel is basically a very budget choice: the room was like a hotel dorm with simple furniture, and the bathroom was minuscule with tiny shower stall and vanity.

The room we got (4-bed) however was the quality of a youth hostel (small, very simple furniture and extremely narrow single beds),

Furniture, TVs, bathrooms all look dated, and the air con didn't really work at all (it definitely didn't cool the room down!).

although the building is probably old, the room was recently painted and furniture and decor were quite modern looking.

Around this square there are numerous restaurants to eat.

Fascinating history, beautiful places to drop in and have a bite to eat or a meal.

The breakfast at the hotel was a good selection and the hotel was easy to check in and out from, the staff were friendly and the hotel also offers a good bar and food service.

The restaurant appeared closed in the evening

As I waited, I explained to the desk staff that my next day flight would require me to depart before breakfast, which was included in the room price, and asked if I could eat breakfast now.

Posto 8, Shops and restaurants are in walking distance.

He was able to suggest tours, close-by tourist attractions, restaurants and organized taxi transfer to the airport.

The daily buffet breakfast is really great with a large variety of fresh savory and sweet food plus a good variety of fresh fruits and juices.

Little road side cafes for beer and snacks.

There are numerous good eating establishment within easy walking distance.

A few supermarkets and restaurants closeby.

but it is clean, the staff is very helpfull, and speak english, the breakfast is good, and the terrace on the roof is with very fine wiew over the Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, and there a many fine restaurants  in walking distance.

This is a reasonably priced, comfortable hotel situated between Ipanema and Copacabana beaches, and the beaches, restaurants and the fort are easily accessible from the hotel.

Supermercado up the street with a fabulous deli selection of cold meats, cheeses, antipasto, fresh breads, wine etc.

Many restaurants (low-cost or otherwise) and supermarkets within walking distance.

The room itself was clean and ok. nothing special.

The ONLY positive was how well housekeeping kept the rooms so clean.

Great service, nice and kind staff, delicious breakfast, lovely swimming pool on the top, extremely clean rooms and.

Hotel rooms were clean and comfortable with good air-conditioning.

The room was clean, brightly lit with a large bed and good water pressure in the shower.

Everyone was so nice, room clean and decent, blocks from Copacabana and Ipanema Beach and Metro station.

but the rooms are clean and the attendants are gentle.

Economical rates, clean rooms, comfy beds, the staff is alright and helped us with some day tours.

solid 3 star hotel; my room was clean, pretty spacious, renovated; breakfast with plentiful of tasty snacks, fruits etc.

Rooms are clean, and from what we viewed as we walked by other rooms, Europe-nly small.

If you can't live without hand lotion a hair dryer and a room designed by some pricey gay guy stay in Cleveland and go to the nearest Holiday Inn Express.

After reading some reviews , I was expecting our room to be dated .

Rooms furnishings pretty basic, typical Rio style.

The Atlantis Copacabana offers no views either and rooms that look like they were furnished by IKEA.

Stayed there in July 2011 for a weekend trip to Rio and overall impressions:
- clean
- a little bit old fashioned and my room was really small
- staff speaks english
- easily reachable from Copacabana and Ipanema by foot

At that time they renovated the restaurant etc.

The room was a bit dingy and the air con was really noisy, a bit like sharing a room with a helicopter.

Far from a luxury hotel, the rooms are a bit dated,

It seems like some of the rooms are more dated than others.

The bathroom is really small, even for 1 person it's a challenge to turn around in it.

The room is a budget hotel level, bathroom is tiny with no counter space.

but roomy though the bathroom a little small.

Small bathroom with lots of hot water and a shower spray that could knock over an elephant.

but without charm; no view but the noise of air conditioners in the small court in front of my window.

As you walk in, the two male receptionists are on the left.

You will have more success with the lovely locals and people walking their dogs are really helpful with directions.

Reception were friendly and helpful and the hotel even offers showers after checking out if you have a late flight: a nice touch to be handed towels and shampoo after a hot late afternoon walk.

When going for walks or to the beach I recommend not to bring many things.

I went out once at night, walked about a block and turned back. Dangerous.

Great location only a 5 minute walk to the south end of Copacabana beach and a few minutes more to walk to Ipanema beach.

Good location btw Copa and Ipanema, just 3 min walking from Arpoador.

We felt safe walking everywhere and caught an uber to anywhere too far to walk.

You can walk to Leblon and take a bus to Rio Sul shopping (which is more afforable and mid range) .

The hotel is situated just a short walk from both Copacabana and Ipanema beaches.

The location is perfect, a five minute walk to Copacabana beach (post 5) on the one side and Ipanema on the other side.

Ipanema beach is a 5 minute walk and Copacabana around 10 mins.

The hotel is also a short 10-15 minute walk from General Osario subway station,

Safe area to walk in evenings, lots of restaurants.

It is a couple of blocks from Ipanema and Copacabana beaches, so walking everywhere is easy.

Only a short walk to Copacabana and Ipanema beaches so there's heaps of restaurants to choose from for meals.

Had a beach view room ,saw the sun riset everyday.

It is unforgettable to wake up to a sun rise at a beautiful beach.

The location was perfect overlooking the Copababana beach.

The hotel is very modern and clean, the view was spectacular, and the beach is very clean. It feels great on bare feet :-)

This hotel is located in the heart of Copacabana Beach and just across the street from the beach.

You are right on the beach and across the street from a fantastic restaurant and just down from a cute market.

The hotel is located across from the beach (as are all hotels on Copacabana Beach).

Also the hotel has its on section on the beach so just ask reception for wrist bands.

We arrived 4 hrs before checkin so they took our bags and had a place we could change for the beach

Nothing worse than staying somewhere that tries to con you the minute you walk in the door.

They would clean the rooms before noon and one morning we stayed in a little later so requested for the room to be cleaned around 1pm with the room sign on the door on our way out prior to going to the beach and came back around 7pm without the room being cleaned.

The back of the bathroom door had something running down it.

We unfortunately had very noisy neighbors and our rooms made one suite separated only by two doors.

We heard  doors being slammed, people talking in adjoining rooms.

The bathroom door does not close and I found myself locked inside.

The rooms on the other hand were noisy due to the connecting doors.

The wardrobe door fell of its runners and there was no plug for the sink in the bathroom.

but the room next door had a baby that did some crying during the night.

The door card never worked, so on multiple occasions every single day for 5 nights during our stay we had to come downstairs to get a new card.

The noises from the doors in the hallway can be a little bit loud.

Sauna was out of service and they should improve their fitness room though, needing some free weights and new machines, and they should keep the door of the gym closed at all times because with Rio's heat it is unacceptable a gym without proper air conditioning.

When we did not alert them to clean we got a second letter hours later discreetly slipped under the door.

The only down side to the room was that it had a locked family door to room next door and so was not soundproof.

We had to postpone our original honeymoon for a year due to COVID 19.

In conclusion, we were slightly disappointed with this hotel due to room issues (zero sound isolation, lack of cleanliness, and the view), communication issues as well as the hotel's slightly disappointing approach to New Year's Eve festivities.

Only drawback would be your clothes do take a bit to dry due to the climate

We could not gain entrance to our allocated room due to faulty entry system so had to wait half an hour while reception tried to resolve the matter.

I had a problem noise that was made due to repairs to another room beside or above mine and I told Rui about it and he upgraded me to another room with no problem!

The best part was that due to a late flight out, we asked how much would it be to extend until later in the afternoon.

We could only afford a Standard Double room for 3 nights over New Year which understandably was double the annual cost of the hotel usual cost due to New Year .

When the hotel got busy it was unbearable as the air con didn't have the same power due to everyone else using it.

Only suggestion for all, including hotel, is to reinforce suggestion from previous post:  They MUST put felt pads on feet of chair legs, as due to laminate flooring in rooms, guests who drag chairs will either wake you up or keep you up.

Overall, I would avoid this hotel due to the terrible staff and service who will do everything to avoid helping out.

My colleague and I waited for few hours to check in due to room availability.

but he was unsuccessful due to the way the bag was worn and the fact that it had a stout strap.

It could be the whole Copacabana problem due to the pollution ..

It has a great breakfast buffet, a great view of Copacabana,  a great price, and a great location in the south zone.

We had a nice time at this hotel, the rooms are okay, the breakfast is great, the location is in the middle of Copacabana,

Location is obviously excellent for Copacabana beach and the shops and European-style restaurants and bars in the green zone.

Brilliant location for all amenities, and the hotel is spotless, serves a great breakfast (perhapss a small microwave in the area would be of benefit to people who like hot food?

This place is a wonderful hotel, right in the middle of the beach walk from end to end of the cococabana, I would say, best location, and service, we were completely impressed by Lucas and Matheus, while everyone was great, Lucas and Matheus made our week stay above and beyond, from morning breakfast with Lucas to afternoon drinks by the pool with either Lucas or Matheus.

Arena Hotel, Copacabana Hotel
This hotel is perfectly centrally located right in the middle.

Its represents excellent value for money given its location on Copacabana beach and is, in general, very comfortable.

Rooms were clean and housekeeping was great.

The room is very clean and new and the sea side view is wonderful.

The hotel rooms are very clean, professional to get work done if you need, have a safe, extra blankets if your husband freezes you like mine, wonderful shampoo and conditioner and kept daily.

Clean Room, lovely view, helpful staff, efficient, easy check in/check out, comfortable beds, spacious rooms, modern bathrooms.

It has clean room, great roof-top bar and swimming pool with incredible views of the area!

Rooms were clean , tidy and very spacey .

The rooms were clean, bed was comfortable, showers were great and the room views were amazing.

Our room was clean, great views of the ocean, near to good eating places, supermarket and other amenities.

The room was clean and I had the fortune of a panoramic view of the Copacabana beach.

The hotel is modern, the room clean and comfortable and the breakfast is simply superb.

The room was very clean and the shower was the type that made it difficult to finish showering.

There were a few people who seemed dismissive

but the staff is the best thing, specially Dimas, Sueli, Rui, Baiano and Fabio.

Staff are very friendly and helpfull  with all things ,such as tours ,directions and English is spoken very well ,buffe breakfast is included

They helped us with a variety of questions, always patient & smiling.

Excellent service  from Mr.Emerson and Mr.Rui  at the reception.

though we don’t speak Portugese, there are employees who speak English and are very informative.

The staff is very friendly and always eager to help.

Mr Ney in particular was most helpful in sorting out my flights and registration formalities under Corona restictions.

The room was comfortable with great spaces nice beds and the decorations was amazing, working area in the room for business in town and the staff always friendly and showing the best willingness to help you out

They were very accommodating and friendly.

The staff is amazing they helped me while I was with locomotion problems.

He and his whole staff are each what a lot of hotels advertise,

Thanks to all at Reception, particularly Bruno and Felipe in reservations, especially during the "corona" period.

Taxi drivers are so polite and knowledgeable.

but, over all very professional, but also friendly and welcoming, when you are at a place for a week, having staff treat you like a friend really makes a difference, we will remember them both for the great service.

The maid staff was a delight and very efficient.
