There is a small bar area which remained resolutely closed throughout the week.

Only complaint would be that hotel felt soulless at night with no real bar area and we found ourselves staying in the dining room chatting to fellow guests.

Old room, old carpet old bath room, no AC in summer, beds unconfortable, smelly room (to avoid smell open the window permanently.

I suspect that people further from the door were less troubled; (iii) we were supplied with one small bar of soap and two shampoo sachets for our entire week.

The bathroom was compact and had only a shower

On our check out day we had a late collection and the staff advised if we needed to freshen up you could use the shower area by the Sauna if needed.

If you like a cuppa, take a kettle and definitely take shower gel and shampoo etc as there isn't a lot in the rooms,

On the advice of an earlier comment I took a bar of soap and shower gel (also a shower hat).

The earliest bath was 4.15am, the latest shower was just before midnight.

Bring soap and shower gel because German hotels apparently only give one night's supply.

After a few days doing the scenic 20 minute walk to and from the village we started to make use of the free village bus which we found very handy.

The countryside around this part of Bavaria is stunning, and if you use the free mountain lifts, you can get up high and see most of it.

but it is free as our hotel provided us with a pass.

Stayed for 10 nights  20 minute walk to town, stayed with Thomsons good hotel, lovely big room, at front of hotel,very comfortable and clean, breakfast and evening meals very good choice, trains and buses with good service from centre of town and free during your stay in Ruhpolding, lots of nice shops in centre of town, lots of nice walks very enjoyable holiday hope to come back next year .

The Extra Card allows you to take local buses, trains and chair lifts etc for free and so is very welcome.

Although I would say it was a 30 minute brisk walk (down hill) for us to reach Ruhpolding, there is a free (with the extra card) local bus that stops outside the hotel approx every couple of hours throughout the day that will take you into the town.

That said, there is a local bus that can drop you right outside the door (free with the guest card)

With the Xtra card, most journeys were free, so we went on quite a few jaunts and used the chair lift and cable car up the mountains.

There is free wifi which you can get by asking and it works in only a few places( restaurant, bar, lounge and terrace).

but we truly enjoyed just being in the local area with the occasional free bus rides and trips up the mountains provided by the eXtra Card.

All the transport is free with the Rupholding card.

I would add that a visit to the lovely spa town of Bad Reichenhall, which is free on the bus, is well worthwhile.

The hotel also gives you a voucher for a complementary coffee and cake in the restaurant.

Also a nice touch when you arrive is a voucher for free coffee and cake one afternoon of your stay.

You can also get to Bertchesgarden and Bad Reichenhall free on these cards and to Salzberg for €4 return.

It was a great bonus because after spending the day sight seeing or walking we could go relax in the outdoor/ indoor pools surrounded by wonderful scenery.

The food was very poor most of the week anyway with some guests (including myself eating in the town).

The only niggle was that the WiFi in our room was poor and consisted of obtaining vouchers that only allowed 6 hours online,

however, was pretty poor due to the fact we could hear running water, toilets flushed, showers and baths being run at all hours.

The restaurant had a very nice buffet breakfast in the morning and the dinner was also very good.

There is a child's menu which our 9 and 12 year olds had to choose from.

The staff, especially Evelyn, Angela and Helga in the restaurant, were brilliant, friendly, attentive and helpful in every way.

Evening meal was four course, salad, soup, two choices of main course or vegetarian option and a dessert.

Our experience of the accommodation, the staff, the location, the food continued to impress throughout our entire stay.

The food was varied, and of a high standard.

I requested a Vegan option and received one meal over the 7 days.

Meal times were as much a social event as an opportunity to eat, with the various guests asking each other about their experiences of the current day and plans for the next.

The starter salad buffet was sometimes good and included meat and fish and at other times just some bowls of salad leaves.

The rooms were clean, staff friendly food good.

The soups were especially noteworthy and I would love some of the recipes for them!

Food excellent with choice of meat, fish or vegetarian.

There are beautiful walks and mountains and the town itself has some great cafes and bars.

The room was spotlessly clean, warm and cozy, with a beautiful view of the mountains.The local buses stop outside the hotel, and there are several that you can catch, including the many ski buses, all of which are free.

Our room was clean and comfortable had a great view of the alps to the south from the balcony.

The rooms were clean and the service from all of the restaurant, cleaning staff and management at the hotel was top rate.

There were plenty of good points about the hotel: we had a very good, spacious, clean room, with a balcony and nice views; the hotel is out of the town and very quiet at nights; the food was generally very good indeed, with the coffee at breakfast of a good standard (unlike in many other hotels that we have stayed in) and the staff happy to provide hot, frothy milk.

The atmosphere was quaint with plants and flowers with beautiful views surrounding the entire restaurant.

There is also a nice walk, through a little wood, into the town, with great views on the way.

Room was spacious, well-furnished, south-facing with views of open countryside with a mountain background.

We had a room with a wonderful view of the mountains.

but a good location for active types with hiking, mountain biking, archery and swimming all available plus tours to other places such as Eagles Nest, Munich (twice by train) etc

Stunning views and from our balcony we looked out onto pasture and mountains.

The hotel is very quiet and peaceful with lovely views over the Unternberg hills.

The location of the hotel allows for fantastic views and it sits in the backdrop of pasture and mountain ranges, it is a truly spectacular place. The rooms are well appointed, ours had a balcony, tv (didn't use as there was too much else to see and do

The 25 minute walk into the village gives great views of the surrounding countryside.

but as we had the view, it wasn't a problem.

The room was exceptionally clean and airy with a great view of the surrounding hills.

The hotel is very nice, the rooms delightful and have small balconies which overlook the outstanding countryside and mountains.

The best thing about the location of the village if you ski well or at intermediate level and are willing to travel is that it is in the centre of so many ski areas.

We would not have ordinarily skied outside of the Schneewinkle area lift pass

We have stayed at mountain high twice over two skiing seasons and found the hotel to be a home from home, it is close enough to all 3 main ski area's and only a ten minute walk to the ski School at Kirchdorf, the hospitality from the staff is just what's needed after a day on the sloops always friendly and warm, the food is good bulky food to fill you up.

Free bus takes you to all ski slopes in the area.

Camelia and her team have kept the standards high.All areas of the hotel are clean and tidy.

Very friendly and hospitable owner and staff; filling and tasty home-cooked food; easy access to St Johann, Fieberbrunn and Steinplatte ski areas by efficient bus service 10 minute walk away (but definitely leave your skis and boots in the hut by the bus stop); a few friendly local bars nearby and more at St Johann which is a pleasant 50 minute riverside walk or short bus or taxi ride away.

but every night the owner had male friends in at the bar who were all drinking very heavily and smoking.I also noticed that they were smoking in the food prep areas too.

Most of the guests were skiiers, who said that there was a good range of sking in the area and St Johann in particular.

You must visit Steinpaltt, a fantastic ski area and only 5-10 mins down the road.

It'll allow you to go free on the train from St Johann to ski the Hanenkamm area.

The slope in Kirchdorf is within walking distance and perfect for beginners and the hotel is very handy by bus to other bigger ski areas.

Although our trip was obviously for winter sports the area generally and Mountain High in particular looks like a great place for summer activities and we're enthusiastic about a return trip to experience those.

This is a beautiful area and we plan to return to see what it's like in summer.

There was a happy atmosphere in the bar area where all the guests would get together and swap tales of the days events whilst playing cards etc.

The dining room/lounge was a sociable area, where all guests discussed skiing etc in the evenings.

This is a great place to stay as a base for the excellent skiing in the area.

Relaxing pleasant, nice bar and staff and owners.Rooms do the job for sleep and washing,what more do you want on a skiing trip.

The chalet owners' policy of no smoking in the building was very welcome since this cannot be assumed in Austria which still allows this in most public buildings including bars and restaurants.

but it suited our needs - we found after a day out skiing we headed down to the bar for gorgeous homemade cakes and remained there for the rest of the evening.

The bar was usually busy and they are quite happy to keep it open as long as you want to keep drinking.

The hotel was just a 5-10 minute walk from the slopes, and the staff were very helpful at advice and recommendations - we had a normal chat with the bar girl every day, she was interested in us and was very friendly and welcoming.

Dinner in the bar area was very good quality, soups, stews, pasta, meats and deserts.

The owners were manning the reception with the Crystal Reps in the bar and the kitchen.

The bathroom was very dated, held together with duct tape in places, and came with no amenities such hand soap or shower gel.

Room wasn't cleaned all week, toilet seat was loose, and extractor in bathroom only seemed to work late in the day which was a problem as windows tended to mist up after a shower or when coming back from a days skiing.

Our toilet seat was broken for the whole week.I did mention it to the owners

Cake and hot chocolate are served at the bar while guests are still in salopettes; and after a shower, dinner is served.

The basins would also benefit from some hand soap.

one has to be quick when using the shower as the hot water soon runs out  .

My only complaint about the room is that the shower wasn't designed very well.

Toilet Broken, bad smell at the room, the host - male wasn't very hospitable .. at all.

The beds were not changed all week, the towels was only replaced once, the shower was not cleaned that week.

Room was quite small - bed, 2 cabinets, wardrobe and toilet/shower room.

We didn't have a kettle or tea making facilities

however drinks were very expensive, soft drinks and tea was almost the same price as a pint of beer.

although you don't get wine or coffee with your meals or tea with the cake in the afternoon, you do get fed every night.

Also one of my party wanted Tea instead of coffee and was told that would be an additional 3€ !

Tea and coffee was a struggle sometimes at breakfast and again this was down to the lady owner.

The food started out well and gradually went downhill so we ate out twice,the first time ever we have done that.if you want tea instead of coffee after the meal then tough frankly!

The food was pleasant and the staff very friendly

They do cater well for vegetarians with a fish or vegetarian alternative.

But for the more fussy eaters there are plenty of other places to eat in town.

All my needs were taken into consideration and met  thus meaning an alternative meal was provided each evening.

Food in hotel is pretty poor to say the least.It is a set menu with 2choices of main meal,if you ask for sausage& beans,thats what you get!

Just returned from a weeks skiing with friends and family, would definately recommend the Mountain High, great food, warm & cosy, will be returning.

I have to say the standard of the evening meals was excellent.

Rooms were kept tidy throughout  the week with several towel changes.Beds were comfortable with additional pillows and covers should you need them.

There has been an obvious deterioration in the food service and room cleanliness which was a great dissapointment.

Accommodation was good, with rooms very clean and very warm after a days skiing.

In the pension, we eat very good and 
the rooms is clean, with all the positive commets.

As you approach this area, you start to see much more mountainous terrain, which is just beautiful.

A good base from which to explore the area from Munich to Salzburg including Berchtesgaden.

Roomed contained a guide of things to see and do in the surrounding area.

There are few tourist attractions around the area and they are 15/20 minutes walk from the hotel.

The hotel had lots of parking and was in the centre of the village which was  an excellent centre for walking or touring the area.

He gave us good very good suggestions for travelling in the area.

If in this area again, we would make a detour to stay here.

But at the end of the day, a nice clean room, a nice comfortable bed, and a clean and updated bathroom all filled the bill so we were happy.

Our room had a very comfortable double bed and there was also a single bed in it too.

Room contained a double bed and two single beds.

We also had use of an extra reception room, which had a table and benches in it and was perfect for the evening when the girls were in bed and my husband and I shared a bottle of wine.

Very family friendly in our experience, large spacious family room, with comfortable beds, could not have asked for better.

but they made us all some beef goulash soup and rolls and off course some beer.

Excellent evening meal, traditional kitchen, large portions and not expensive

We had a lovely room and fantastic meals while there.

The restaurant was spread over a number of rooms,

Location was good, staffs were very kind, breakfast was fair, and most of all restaurant was very good.

The evening restaurant staff were also extremely friendly and helpful.

The only drawback is the restaurant which is adequate,

We had Italian food in a nearby village before turning for an excellent night's rest.

Actually we thought the food was better and tastier than what we had in many 4/5* restaurants.

We were greeted by the owner  who spoke very good english , and from then on things only got better , the rooms were very very clean the meals were excelent , the staff warm and friendly , we have been travelling to Germany for over 30 years and have never enjoyed a hotel as much , we will be back

The restaurant was excellent with a large choice and an English menu available.

The breakfast was fine and the restaurant really good.

Food in restaurant was icing on cake, very good quality and very resaonably priced.

The room was very clean and the view out the window was so stunning.

We stayed in a nice and clean room with a balcony overlooking the mountain.

The hotel and the rooms were clean and spacious (we have 2 small childrens).

but the room was clean as was the en-suite.

The hotel was lovely, the hosts wonderful and the food to die for!

A table was reserved in the restaurant with our name on it for the entirety of our stay.

Kind and helpful hosts, great room with a fantastic view and good restaurant.

Good breakfast buffet; the dinner was delicious!

Delicious cooking was served at the table, prepared by Paul, the family son, who will treat you not only with his meals

Peter's after dinner  musical skills - on the accordion - are very good,

Located in a lovely valley, close to Berchtesgaden and the Austrian border, The Hotel Gabriele is worthy of the highest accolades for setting, hospitality, atmosphere, superb restaurant (separate review) and an overall feeling of being a genuinely welcomed guest…not someone simply taking a room.

Restaurant good quality with decent choice.

Very clean, good food, good location and you feel really "taken cared" of.

but it we more like excellent home cooking and the 4 course dinners for the Christmas days we really excellent and something you could have eaten at a 5 star restaurant.

You can tell that the owner is a certified chef, by the great food that is being served.

The place itself is super comfortable and our room was clean with a great bathroom.

The bed was extremely comfortable and everything in the room was clean and tidy.

Once we got past the language barrier we were given another room with an excellent view and great privacy.

The rooms were very clean, light and had a beautiful view on the hills around.

Our room was a generous size, clean, up- to- date and the bathroom had been recently renovated to a very high standard.

Rooms very comfortable with all mod cons.

The hotel itself is a wonderful place, nice rooms that were very clean, quiet location and a wonderful staff that really take care of you.

We had a wonderful time in a well appointed, super clean room with superior dining for a week.

Absolutely gorgeous views and lovely accommodations.

You are literally minutes from the high mountains of Austria, 10 minutes from fabulous Lake Chiemsee and only about a half an hour from beautiful Salzburg!

There is a hiking trail right beside the hotel which leads to an amazing view point at a summit of approx 1,600 metres - you can see lake chiemsee and on a clear day munich city!

He was even so incredibly kind as to offer us to lead us at night to the top of the nearby mountain to see the sunrise.

The view from the balcony was classic green hills and Alps.
