Hot water service is located behind locked door in 2nd bedroom which kicks in at 7am which was very annoying.

Need some maintenance in bathroom e.g shower door.

but un allocated so we had to park out on the street on a rainy night because others used all the spaces including outside our door.

My only problem was that the sliding door could not be locked and made me feel a little unsafe.

Fridge door hard to close, beds super hard.

Accessing the room at night was tricky as the stairwell was unlit and the (unlockable) door to the car parking area opened so close to the bottom step as to make it dangerous.

Otherwise, be prepared to straddle the toilet to close the bathroom door.

*The bathroom entrance is tight, making it hard to access the toilet as the door opens weirdly.

Room was tired, shower door leaked, room was not serviced at all over the two night stay, we had to request fresh towels and toilet paper and the rubbish was not emptied, container blocked our nominated car park

The main concern is love to see get fixed, to see an extra form of lock up high to prevent children opening the door and getting out.

9am at 25th morning, 2 housekeeping staffs knocked our door and tried to access into our rooms, it seems they definitely had no idea if guests still in the room!!!

but not so great if there are kids screaming and carrying on like kids do in a pool, also other guest were smoking in the pool area which meant we had to close our sliding doors.

Also we didn’t feel quite secure as the door and stair case leading to our apartment was always unlocked.

Long story short, the bride and groom used the apartment for the two nights out of three and to having to park out on the street because the “allocated”car park at the apartment door was taken by another car and when brought to the attention of the staff it was advised then that there is no allocated car parking.

The flyscreens on the doors leading to the balcony  were filthy and looked like they had never been cleaned and when trying to open them you had to practically force them open and one of the screens actually fell out of the rails.

Just a little concerned about security as outer door to our apartment and the one next door was left unlocked all night leaving it susceptible to overnight rough sleepers.

Our apartment was not clean and the outside terrace was very dirty with the screen door off the rails because there was so much dirt in the tracks .The bathroom was tiny with no space to even stand unless the door was closed .Breakfast both mornings was missing a lot of things that were advertised  and not replenished and there was no one around to ask or help .Overall it was below standard all around .

Unfortunately we lucked out and got one of the family apartments down the back next to the overflowing, stinking industrial bins.

but I did notice some mould & discolouring of pipes behind the toilet.

There were ants crawling on the bedspread and bed.Half empty bottle of milk and empty bottle of soda water in the fridge from previous guests which was not cleaned out.Absolutely disgusting exhaust in the bathroom with clumps of dust

The foyer into the room was disgustingly dirty, the price was way too high considering prices in Melbourne are less for a far better room.

Breakfast not the nicest - recycled pastries were stale and unappealing.

I was also given a sheet to sign stating no smoking no party, no guests after 10pm etc

but had a strong "cooking smell" that would suggest deodorizing or cleaning of the rangehood vents was needed.

Bathroom a bit dirty and reeked of mould, had to keep window open, no flyscreen in the window either.

After staying at more expensive motels on my driving holiday this motel was basic

Because it was public holiday there was no breakfast

That was the only strange and weird thing that happened and I woke up thinking that someone was trying to break in!

highly recommended motel to all travelers, pleasant environment , clean rooms , friendly staff - good value for money,   easy stroll to shops or to the local beach, the town itself is nice and clean  - will visit again if opportunity will arise

The only spot to plug in was on the floor nearest to front window which Is less than ideal as devices could be seen from outside by those snooping in.

Windows aren't double insulated and you do get some traffic noise at peak times and a little during the night.

Aircon was old and noisy .. the ‘window-unit’ old fashion type.

I think the only issues we encountered was the very loud air conditioning unit (built pre 1980) and the dog barking across the fence at odd hours of the night (yes there were some bad movies made in the 80s).

The fan comes on in the bathroom with the light, this was left on all night in next room so impossible to sleep.

However, it was a warm night, requiring the air con to be kept on all night.

Additionally, the air conditioner was VERY noisy.

Over the back fence, a dog barked all night (not the fault of those who own the hotel - and thankfully, I guess, something that the heater drowned out).

Parking is available outside your unit and if a light sleeper you may hear some road noise.

The room comes with a heater which is really a necessity in winter.

but the smaller one was like an oven with no air conditioning.

however a few negatives-  it's pretty noisy ( close to the highway and also 2+ dogs behind the property who bark A LOT during the night and only 1 socket worked in the whole room ?!?

Also I had the same issue as another reviewer about the dog over the back fence barking.

The tv was a really nasty cheap one, and on the second night a dog owned by the motel's proprietors yapped and yapped for hours.

Very clean room and good and quiet location staff very friendly and helpful we got there late and key was left in room with door unlocked great shower and nice and hot highly recommend this motel and you get  parking directly in front of your room

I must say room was very  clean , well set up and presented and on top very affordable.

The rooms are very clean and comfortable beds.

We arrived on a cold Friday afternoon, we were greeted at reception by Peter and after check in directed to our unit.

Unfortunately, the bathroom was freezing, so I couldn't use the shower.

but sleeping was difficult with the noisy air conditioners  from other units.

The only downside was a noisy air con/heater which stopped when it got to good temperature

The one and only light outside the units is just a single solar garden stake light so it is extremely dark and surely a safety issue.

We were in a twinshare unit and over the duration of our 3 night stay the main bed was not made up at all

Basic, functional and a bit awkward to find in the dark.

It is in a residential area and is extremely hard to see in the dark as there is no lit up sign outside.

It took us 2 hours plus a visit to the local police station to locate this place in the dark.

Booked at last minute, owners were lovely and room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable.

The Portland REtro Motel is authentic retro (70s) - the rooms are very clean and well appointed, the service is good and we had a pleasant and quiet two night stay in a family room - I would recommend it.

I stayed in this motel every other week for about 6 months with my work, having travelled all around Australia for work whilst there I can honestly say this is the best and with the nicest staff, rooms were always clean, the tv always worked and was tuned in which cannot be said for all the places in Australia!

Ate at the bistro - food was ok and service was just ok. No safety chains on inside of room doors - and because my door was hard to latch, I awoke during the night to find my door half open - no wonder I was cold!

however it would not work, only cold air blowing.

Old , cold and generally uncomfortable , dated decor , hard beds , no doonas , brown everywhere , crap bathrooms , the restaurant was ok

His was cold by the time it reached the table.

We had just prematurely checked out of other accommodation in town after being shocked by misleading reviews and an awful cold experience.

As I had to leave at 4am the following morning, I went down to reception to fix up the bill and order room service as I was very casually dressed for the restaurant, The front desk lady was quite cold and i felt like i was treated like a simpleton.

I told her to charge the credit card on file.

Upon check out they tried to charge me $20 more than I was quoted for the accommodation and when I told them the rate I was told they said oh you were quoted the wrong price.

All are able to charge back to room for meals etc.

Many options for dining & easily charged back to room.

We were also charged $18 for one night we used their portacot(would have brought ours if we'd known).

Been staying at the Henty for awhile when I come to Portland  it's a great place it had a fantastic view over the harbor staff are great and restaurant is top quality the rooms are always clean and tidy

but all other options were full .the room was clean and reasonably furnished .bed was comfortable .they had two options for meals on site and we had dinner at one of these , the meal was good and handy to walk .

The place is dirty, smelly, mouldy, dated and the owners are RUDE and unhelpful.

Our room was extremely old and very dated.

There are two types of rooms in this motel, the cheap ones are dated and worn, the more expensive ones are the recently renovated ones.

Dirty, shabby and the amenities old and worn .

Accommodation is budget and decor and fittings are dated,

The rooms are terribly dated (I'm talking 70's), and the beds are so uncomfortable.

The room and bathroom were very out dated and dark

but had an old fashioned blanket which didn't allow for a good night sleep as well as being right near the road, traffic noise was loud especially on the Saturday night.

THE ROOM WAS VERY COMFORTABLE BUT INCLINED TO BE A BIT NOISY AT NIGHT.
