The B&B is a lovely old building with heaps of history and is very close to the waterfront, shops and eating places - and the rooms are very comfortable, spacious and well fitted out - not to mention spotless.

It was well located near pubs and restaurants and overlooking the harbour.

Portland is a relaxing country town full of historic building and a great base for day trips around the countryside and coast.

We stayed in the Victoria House which is situated in a lovely spot right by the beach.

Nice old bluestone building a 5 minute walk from the centre and 2 minutes to the shore.

After negotiating the craziness that was the Great Ocean Road, we decided to go beyond Warrnambool and look for somewhere to stay for the night on our journey back to Perth.

Victoria House is centrally located in Portland, within walking distance to beach and shops.

Just a minute walk to the beach, and 5 mins to restaurants and bars, so the location is excellent.

I needed to spend one day working at my desk (table) warm, comfortable and fast free wifi inside, broken with lots of fresh air as we took brief walks along the beach, virtually just across the road.Thank you.

Cape Bridgewater, with its all-year-round dog-friendly (leash-free) beach is only 18 km away, so even if you go there after Dec 1 when local dog-laws require dogs not to be on the Portland beaches between 9a.m.

Our stay in Portland was our first stop on our Great Ocean Road trip and we really enjoyed our time spent in Cape Bridgewater, just a few minute drive from the B&B - a definite must!

We decided to travel to Portland as part of our Great Ocean Road voyage.

We did not take advantage of the optional continental breakfast because we wanted to see what Portland offered just a short walk down the road.

Our room was warm and cozy, and the breakfast was very filling and sustaining.

Mandy offers a delicious continental and cooked Breakfast for a fee.

The breakfast room,  where the  delicious man sized  breakfast  is served,( you do have the options to just have continental though) looks out over the pretty garden.

Mandy was absolutely fantastic, ensured we had enough to eat at breakfast and packed us a some snacks knowing we were going on the Budj Bim tour.

Mandy does a great breakfast, the household pets are adorable (Lily the sausage dog puppy endlessly entertaining) and the fire is lit every afternoon in winter in a communal lounge where you can chat with other guests or work on your laptop.

Breakfast was a feast with a variety of cooked items, cereals, fruit, yogurt and pastries.

And looking over the gardens while having breakfast was the best.

Mandy who serve the breakfast go out of the way and make you feel welcome to enjoy the breakfast.

Great breakfast to set you up for the day.

The breakfast was excellent and not to be missed.

And of course,  the breakfast was fabulous.

The Owners are such a lovely Couple, gave us good ideas where to go in Portland and we got the best Breakfast we ever had in our time in Down Under!

To go with the old world charm is the substantial high cholesterol breakfast, enjoy and then take an extra statin after!

And the home cooked breakfast was delicious.

Some of the ingredients were sourced from their garden.

The hosts were attentive and provided a large cooked breakfast.

I imagine it is what a backpackers would be like if it was run by my Gran.

The house backs onto a lovely garden ( with garden gnomes for the kids to find) that you can sit in and or enjoy.

Maintains a delightful garden for all to enjoy.

I decided on Victoria House and stayed 4 nights  A beautiful Heritage House owner Ruth her husband Douglas were helpful lovely hosts, enjoyed the Continental breakfast set in the dining room & cooked breakfast while watching the beautiful cottage garden.

The gardens were stunning with spectacular roses a feature and I think a point of pride for Doug.

The stunning garden, the very lovely sun room and the comfy lounge (with delicious complimentary sherry and port) all added to the special feeling ”home away from home”.

The cooked breakfast was delicious served in the quaint dining room overlooking the cottage garden.

Our dogs also enjoyed the stay and were given the fun of the back garden to explore.

The nice roaring fireplace in the common room really added to the charm, and the gardens and breakfast room were excellent.

Old antique furniture with up graded bathrooms lovely veranda with a beautiful garden to sit and relax.

but enjoyed the delicious made to order breakfasts - a lovely way to start the day looking out at the cottage garden, catching up with other guests and getting advice from Stephanie about possible activities for the day.

The sunroom was a lovely area that overlooks an English garden and the sitting room in the evening always had a mixture of interesting people, lovely fruit cake and port if anyone wanted it.

We were happy to visit the sunken garden and blue lake in Mount Gambier.

This place is magical: a time-warp back into a gentler, softer, comfortable home-environment-for-the-upper-classes; welcoming, friendly, unfazeable hosts; classy ye olde worlde furnishings and feel, unBELIEVably good breakfasts; quiet, peaceful, lush and wind-protected enclosed cottage garden .

Although the story about the resident ghost that walks the stairs and hallway meant that at a first sound of a creak - i had my 8yr old son sleeping in my bed - throwing elbows throughout the night!

It is like taking a trip over to Nana's house with all the antiquities lining the halls and walls.

We stayed at Victoria House while doing the 13-day Great South West Walk.

Great spot to be able to walk all of Portland.

The owners are super friendly and knowledgeable about the area, rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable, the house its self is fascinating for the eclectic collection of books and furniture, and quaint touches like cake and sherry out in the lounge room when you get back from a hard days walking and eating !

All in all a great place that is very well located to visit local restaurants, walk along the beach/cliff tops or visit the shops.

A magnificent heritage guest house furnished in period style, where we were made to feel at home from the moment we walked in.

and 6 p.m. (until Easter), you can still walk or swim your dogs until 9 am on Nun's Beach (5 mins walk away) and then later take them to Cape Bridgewater for a real swim and some serious surf.

Close walk to the great meals at the pub, and views of the port.

The close proximity to the main shopping, and beach/jetty is great, so park the car and walk.

It is a short walk to the port area and to the centre of the town where there are many shops and places to eat.

There was a small, private outside courtyard, perfect for breakfast.

Pleasant continental breakfast is available with great coffee machine.

Our continental breakfast daily was included as I had booked direct with the hotel which was a nice surprise and much appreciated.

Good, simple breakfast was included, and the beds and furniture were good.

Quest breakfast was very light - there were breads and cereals only. If you are looking for big breakfast then better make it in room :)

but the basic buffet continental breakfast was very good.

Continental brekky which was included with stay was very good.

It depends in how important breakfast is to you.

Both had 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a kitchen area which meant we could cook our own breakfasts.

Free wifi provided, and free breakfast was a welcomed bonus.

Breakfast is included in the price which is a plus.

Breakfast facility was exactly what is needed.

but could put it on the floor (assuming a small suitcase) and walk through the bedroom.

Also we didn’t feel quite secure as the door and stair case leading to our apartment was always unlocked.

We stayed in a 3 bedroom apartment and I understand from reception that there are no 3 bedroom apartments downstairs so be prepared to take cases up stairs.

And it wasn't just the clothes: suitcases, plastic bags and even my headphones were smelly and needed tons of airing to rejuvenate.

but got bad vibes entering the glassed in stair case to 2nd floor.

It is messy and sometimes awkward to have to open your suitcase on the floor and live out of it at that level.

The staircase door opening towards the case just made the whole navigation there (with hands busy with suitcases) so much harder.

More central lighting away from tv screen would improve the living area and extra hook for towel or  robe would be useful in bathroom.

For a 2 bedroom apartment, the living area, and kitchen was tiny.

The living space was a little small, very tight when you have 2 kids.

We found cobwebs in the living room area, a couple of dead insects and some empty chocolate wrappers left in the bedside draw.

but the living area is very small and whilst the website said that there are 2 lounges in the living area, this was not the case, there was one 2 seater and a chair beside the television and a table with 6 chairs behind the lounge.

although the tv in main living area is very small.

Living Room needs renovation as the nails underneath the carpet are coming through.

In comparison the living area was very small, with only a 2 seater dining table and lounge seating for three.

It was a dark room and the living area very small, particularly as it accommodates 4 people.

The living room's TV is on the smaller side of today's standards,

A couple of minor issues - for a two bedroom apartment another TV would have been good and also the living area was quite small in the apartment (220) we had.

Living area was cramped and laundry was shared with studio room next door which is not what I expected.

The only negative for this apartment was that the living room was quite small (unusual compared to other Quests).

The 'view' from the living area was of the enclosed outdoor area with basic table and chairs + concrete, with no outlook and the ambience of a garbage storage space.

The shared living area is on the smaller side of things (as testified by the inclusion of only two dining chairs and only a two seater sofa),

The room we were alocated ( after a direct booking & payment)2 weeks in advance was a dungeon.

I enjoyed my stay had no trouble at all booking was easy check out was easy only cook utensils need to be better so we would find easier to cook and clean.

This apartment experience has made me want to book with Quest in other cities.

I would definitely consider it for my future bookings.

We booked a 2 bedroom deluxe and were happy with the whole experience.

overall was excellent experience recommend it and will book it again in future.

We will defenitely book again next time we are down that way.

We have stayed here numerous times, booking a one bedroom apartment, and have usually been in an apartment down the side of the complex.

Do yourself a favor there are a lot of other nicer places in Portland with great customer service, book with the other providers

We booked for 4 nights and found our 1 Bedroom  apartment to be large and  comfortable, with plenty of light in living area and bedroom.

Would definitely stay here again and my advice would be to book in advance.

I was overall happy with my stay and would book again.

The service at arrival was friendly & professional & some great advice on where to eat.

The face washer, hand towel and floor mat were of average thickness, and the shower towels were the perfect size for me [usually, they are too small].

Room was tired, shower door leaked, room was not serviced at all over the two night stay, we had to request fresh towels and toilet paper and the rubbish was not emptied, container blocked our nominated car park

Only let down was the daily servicing of the rooms was non existent, the towels were changed once in 5 days.

There were not enough towel racks for the towels.

Always helped us when needed (needed a porta cot second night in, more towels and toilet paper).

but I still do not understand why we had to get towels and other items when the apartments are supposedly serviced. 8.

Executive apartment unclean 2 single beds pushed together for a Queen  Linen and bed making not acceptable very costly for second rate apartment .No allotted car parking we had to park our new car on the street every night .Patio etc full of cobwebs ,staff turned our air-conditioning off every day in 30 degree heat Shower unclean no Cleaning on Sundays so i went an asked for clean towels reception said we only have one we wanted to leave the first night

housekeeping needs a good shake up as dirty cups left and towels not replaced.

We tried a towel to no avail as it was to noisy.

Didn’t try the TV - they do have foxtel.

The place was great, and clean - just a shame that the man from reception wouldn't leave the TV remote - and we had to rely on the channels allocated to us by QUEST TV - and we couldn't watch free to air TV.

Despite checking all the settings the TV didn't work and continued to display no signal.

The tv's electronic program guide on the tv was hard to use and next to useless.

The tv or DVD player could use the ability to plug hard drives into.

Kettle on the small cabinet with the TV so no space to prepare my own breakfast.

Very neat and tidy rooms with plenty of space, TV could have been a little larger, pillows were very uncomfortable

Worst accommodation, could not utilise the lounge when there is only 1 small two seater sofa, to get comfortable had to lay on the bed to watch TV, which in itself caused problems as it was a open bathroom - bedroom combo going on if someone had to use the toilet the rest had to leave as no privacy.

but it let us connect our own equipment to its HDMI input instead of forcing us to pay for Quest's own stuff.

Things that could have made it better: Robes and slippers; wifi that worked properly - ours was overly complex to access and slow, ended up using my own connection; better lighting in the bathroom, it was too gloomy to put make up on; better attention to dusting the tv unit, dvd player and coffee table, I don't think they'd been dusted for a while.

The 2 bedroom apartment only had one TV as well.

but the unit was not as user friendly as expected, and strange lights emitted from the TV which only went away when we turned the unit off at the mains.

It was also pleasant to be able to walk to waterfront and eateries.

The location is an easy walking distance to shops, restaurants, cafe etc and to the harbour area.

Sitting in the bay window of the lounge area overlooking the garden certainly was very relaxing.This property offered excellent value for money and the owner Roger was very accommodating to our needs.

Located very close to the waterfront in Portland, the oldest European settlement in Victoria.

The coastal scenery nearby, at Cape Bridgewater and Cape Nelson, is within easy reach and again, less crowded.

We will stay there again and recommend it to other travellers who want a quiet and friendly spot as a base to see the wonders that the SW coast has to offer.

Everyone has said so many nice things about the house and rooms - all of which is true, so I will just mention that one of the reasons to stay here is nearby Cape Bridgewater and Bridgewater Bay where there are stunning walks and scenery!

We sat out in the lounge in the evening at a huge bay window.

though we were staying in a private home - large sitting room with a bay window looking out into the garden, beer and wine available in the fridge, cheese and nibbles in the evening.

Lorelei is an absolute gem and was the icing on the cake in our trip along coast to Adelaide.

We recently stayed at Lorelei bed and breakfast on our trip along the Great Ocean Road.

We had dinner at "Clocks by the Bay" which was delicious and walked there and back.

Our room was oversized, with a bay window facing the garden and a spa bath.

The breakfast provisions were more than adequate and filled us up for a day of walking and exploring around the beautiful district of Portland and Cape Bridgewater.

Excellent value, & the tariff also includes breakfast.
