The hotel complex has everything you need, places to eat locally (Try Chefe Steak House and Sea Basket near the Pingo Supermarket) and bus stops outside for trips in Funchal.

The complex was lovely and there was always plenty of available seating by the pools.

There were also 2 pool bars at either end of the complex.

There is a very good  Pingo Doce supermarket in the shopping mall that is "underneath" the hotel complex, and a fabulous ice cream shop (Venezia) on the promenade 5 mins walk away.

Excellent Hotel complex with lovely suite rooms with separate bedroom, living room and galley kitchen with microwave, fridge and hob.

Spent a wonderful week within the Eden Mar Complex.

This is a fantastic hotel complex in a wonderful setting.

The staff are excellent and the whole complex is exceptionally clean.

The pool complex was excellent, with options for sitting in the sun or shade.

There was an extensive breakfast buffet in the PortoBay Hotel in the complex.

There is a Pingo Doce supermarket under the shopping centre at the hotel complex, at the far end of the site nearest the sea, better value than the Spar supermarkets.

Got lost more than once in the hotel complex as it is joined to 2 other accommodations.

A great complex of 3 hotels within walking distance of the centre of Funchal .

This hotel is one of three on the complex.

We recognised many return visitors from three years ago, which is testament to the popularity of the Porto Bay hotel complex.

As I have said in previous reviews, the main asset to this hotel and resort complex is the seemingly unchanging staff, excellent throughout.

Free parking for about 50 cars outside the hotel itself, with access to more around the hotel complex.

We stayed at Eden Mar one of the Portobay hotels alongside Portobay and The Residence and so were able to enjoy the most beautiful landscaped gardens and pools, restaurants and facilities of all.

The gardens are large enough for you to wander and enjoy their orchid garden and the variety of sub-tropical plants or simply to relax on a sun-lounger or enjoy the many viewpoints out to sea.

The accommodation,food and facilities were greatbavd the customer service was outstanding first class

.the breakfast was excellent, the pools and garden areas immaculate and the Happy hour a great place for a swift one or two before eating out at one of the numerous local restaurants.

It's like relaxing in the botanical gardens with a pool to keep dipping into.

Breakfast at Alfama is always lovely, delicious food in a peaceful setting around the gardens, a great way to start your day.

The gardens were well maintained and the promenade was just beyond them for an evening stroll.

We love the gardens, the plants, and sheer size of the gardens which are lovely to walk through.

Superb gardens and pools areas, always plenty of sun beds available with bar service in all areas.

Our favourite spot being right near the herb garden not far from the main pool, occasionally getting a waft of sweet smelling herbs as you lay relaxing in the sun.

We loved the breakfast, there was something to do for everyone, from the pools, the gym, the play area….beautiful gardens and great gym.

Lovely rooms, we had a ground floor superior room.

The hotel grounds are stunning, trees and flowers everywhere, very well maintained and the sun loungers are dotted all around the grounds so you don't need to go to the pools if you would rather relax in the gardens, plenty of shaded areas too.

We’ve stayed at the Eden Mar many times, the grounds are stunning,  the staff are extremely attentive, the reception area is always helpful in particular Manuela.

There was no problem to get four sun-beds together as the hotel grounds are very spacious.

The grounds and pools were great and there was never any noise or rowdiness, day or night.

The grounds and gardens are also so pretty.

You can use the facilities of the Porto Mare which is connected by the corridors, literally you just walk through the hotel or through the grounds and can use any of the swimming pools, bars and restaurants.

The grounds are amazing and well kept, really lovely surroundings and the pools were all clean and spacious.

We had a lovely suite, comfortable, spotless and with a super balcony overlooking the beautiful grounds and gardens.

Travelling from Luxembourg we were able to avoid all that and could enjoy two weeks from 9 to 23 January.

The lunch at the pool bar was poor quality and expensive and the menu needs a revamp.

Air con poor, fridge was faulty as just filled with condensation instead of cooling.

One disappointment was the poor service at the bar area for happy hour at Oceana, only 1 waiter and with it being table service no other way to get a drink.

but got a poor response and no indication of the chances of an alternative.

After a shaky start, when we were diverted to Porto Santo due to poor visibility at Funchal airport, the weather was almost perfect for the remainder of our two week stay, with only the odd cloudy day and temperatures in the 20s, reaching 26C on a couple of days!

We received a poor welcome from a receptionist who was too busy talking to a colleague to even greet us.

The lighting in the bedroom area was poor with two dim wall lights and a light in the alcove/dressing table area, to actually see and find clothes in the wardrobe was a major task!

First impressions are poor as the entrance is down a side street with cheap bars and restaurants nearby

We thought that the entertainment was poor and amerturish and very little that was aimed at children.

The quality of towels in our room was poor this year, nearly every day one of our towels would be either threadbare or have  a hole in it.

The smell is obnoxious and added to the the rather poor attitude to customers we regrettably won't be staying there again.

I have seen many reviews commenting on the poor breakfast choice and at one time I may have agreed.

The Reps meeting with her lasted approx 1.30hrs and was informative and helpful so dont listen to any poor reports, yes some info we didnt need

While we were experiencing this cold food and poor service for a second time, we were informed by another holiday maker, that there was another much bigger and better restaurant that we should use in the sister hotel Porto Mar.

Loved our room with a lovely sunset view and a kitchenette that allowed us to cook some meals. I slept like a baby as the beds were comfortable and the blackout curtains kept out the morning " sun ! )

We had two superb meals in the Alfama restaurant and the buffet breakfasts had every single choice imaginable.

The staff were very helpful and friendly, the food was amazing, the weather was brilliant and Funchal was fantastic.

Guests have access to two buffet restaurants for breakfast; we only attended the smaller one in Eden Mar as it adequately met our needs.

You can ask for vegan dish, and they have it in all restaurants.

The staff are excellent, food is good and the rooms are very comfortable.

Particular mention needs to go to Mary Paulo in reception, Felipe in the Alfama restaurant, and Ella in the Portofino bar.

Just a wonderful place, friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere, very comfortable rooms, excellent food in all the restaurants.

The restaurants were excellent for breakfast and buffet dinners.

There are lots of bars and restaurants around the hotel.

Our 14th visit to the hotel,great staff ,great food very clean and the attention to detail in pleasing the guests  is second to none.

This was important as there was a problem with the drains which meant there was a strong smell of sewers from the toilet room.

but the design of the balcony directed the  cigarette smoke from the room below directly into our room and balcony.

I guess  it must be the chemicals / salts they presumably put in.

but the bad drain smell outside the Eden Mar was horrible and put me off the Lido area,

though there was a slight smell of drains in our bathroom.

but nearby) was a strange experience though as due to mask wearing and the restrictions of two people in the lift at any time and the majority being couples or small families I 
never actually managed to meet or have a conversation with any other guests staying there.

Regular visitors of the hotel seemed to get better treatment by hotel staff who at times turned a blind eye to their smoking in the outdoor restaurants or made sure they were served first.

Smoking is allowed anywhere around the pool area and you might have to move if you don’t want passive smoke.

But worse was when they smoked, the smoke was on our balcony and if like us, you hate the smell of smoking it was a big downside.

though is that we are non-smokers and all of the patios appear to permit smoking.

although all the rooms are non smoking they do allow smoking on the balconies and if you are unlucky enough to have chain smokers next door or below as we were it was virtually impossible to enjoy our balcony so from that aspect we were disappointed.

The room we were given was old, tired and smelly.

One worrying issue was that people we met going out and became friends with had to move rooms because of a drain fault during the night thus feeling sick and headache, the guy was an ex services engineer and said during recent refurb they may have installed the toilet wrongly thus sewage gas leaking.

Any negatives yes sorry I have one,smoking around the hotel we are none smokers and find it anti social especially around the pool areas

Our room had an occasional smell of tobacco smoke.

but worth a short break but can be very noisy at night  with smokers on their balconies into the night and in summer we expect it might be more busy with families and younger children staying.

The only problem we had is on occasions strong smells from the drains in the bathroom

As should a stricter control of where smokers can puff away on cigars and cigarettes.

but the corridors to the bedrooms were dated and smelled musty, they reminded me of a 70s hotel in Whitby or Skegness.

You can smell it all the way down to the ocean.

Staff are consistently helpful, friendly and efficient as they always are and the new arrivals are an asset to the hotel.

The staff and service is second-to-none, absolutely outstanding on level.

Brilliant NY Eve, choice of different meal options and then transport (to and from) to see the firework display from the concourse of the local football team, views over mountains and harbour.

The staff in the restaurant and at reception were polite and the hotel was fairly clean.

The reception staff are excellent with room requests and are very welcoming on arrival.

The hotel is kept very clean in all areas, all the staff are efficient and friendly, it’s great to see so many still there from when we first visited.

The location and surrounding is perfect for many activities, the service and personnel is nice.

The staff were unfailingly cheerful and helpful, and the facilities excellent.

It was 40min walk into main part of Funchal.

The location of the hotel is ideal, particularly if you enjoy walking.

but a quick walk around soon provides orientation.

There is a great supermarket beneath the hotel just a few minutes walk away as well as gift shops nearby.

There are so many wonderful things to see, so hire a car (the staff can arrange this for you), whether you are looking for walks, mountain hikes, or simply park and visit options for the less able.

but we walked through to the attached hotel where the slope was manageable.

There are 3 hotels all on same site so it's just a few minutes walk to use different restaurants or bars.

The hotel is beautiful, great location, we went on lots of lovely walks.

We stayed bed and breakfast and explored many of the local restaurants as well as an easy walk into Funchal on a couple of occassions.

You can walk through the hotel to get there which saves getting very hot and sticky.

This meant it was less than €10 for a Taxi to Old town etc, and also you could walk the Sea front Lido path (with its many bars/restaurants) going west.

We enjoyed walk into Funchal and either taxi or bus back to hotel.

The hotel sits in a good position and has lovely gardens to walk in.

The hotel also had no elevator, and all guests are expected to drag their luggage up and down the stairwell.

Only downside which I was aware of ahead of time is the lack of an elevator.

One note, there is no lift as it is an older building ,

Be aware, though, that the hotel has no elevator and because of the ceiling heights it's a long climb to the 3rd floor and those with older legs (like ours) should request a first floor room.

Our room was lovely and the bed very comfortable - the only thing we would say is that there is no elevator due to Heritage rules so if you have trouble with stairs be sure to ask for a lower level room.

since there is no elevators just make sure to ask fr rooms on the ground or 1st floor (whatever it's called) if u have trouble w/stairs.

The only downside is there is no elevator so had to lug our cases up 2 flights of stairs.

There is no lift so be aware of that if you have trouble with stairs.

I was promised a quiet room on the 2nd floor (top floor Room 26) and advised that there was no lift only stairs.

but the point is Laimer Hof has no aircon, and no lift (although in fairness the staff assisted with lugging our cases up and down on arrival and departure).

The hotel is within easy walking distance of the SBahn to take you into the old town, there are several restaurants nearby and a huge beer garden which is worth a visit.

Beside Nymphenburg Palace and parkland, and the Botanic Gardens, the area also has a good selection of lovely restaurants nearby.

Easy to spend a full day walking around the beautiful gardens.

The Palace is only a short walk away as well as is the  Beer garden.

Also close to a wonderful local beer garden.

They also gave us bike information and we used their bikes to explore Olympic Park and the English gardens.

Hearty breakfast with great selections .Walk a few blocks to catch the tram into the city or take a short walk to Nymphenburg Palace or Hirshgarten - beer garden.

A short walk to the Nymphenburg Palace which was amazingly beautiful, also a short walk to local bars and restaurants (Wirtshaus Kurgaten highly recommended) plus the largest beer garden in the world (Koniglicher Hirschgarten), which is a must if you like good beer!

The beds are scrolled and gilded; each room had distinctive desks and armoires, and pretty vintage prints of a local beer garden.

The hotel is walking distance from the biggest beer garden in the world and Nymphenburg Palace which are both worth visiting.

Good choice of restaurants nearby, a 10 min walk to the largest Biergarten (beer garden) in town is surely recommended.

The hotel is located in a quiet & safe suburb, with easy access via tram to city Centre, only 5 minutes walk to the old royal palace, 10 minutes walk to the famous beer garden!

Close by is Scholes Nymphenburg, the Botanic Gardens and for those long summer nights and short winter ones, the 8-9,000 capacity Hirschgarten Biergarten is just a 10 minute walk away also.

We stayed at the Laimer Hof for three days following a barge and bike trip in Germany, France and Luxembourg, and couldn't have picked a better place to end our European vacation.

It’s in a lovely neighborhood within easy walking distance of the Nymphenburg Palace.

I decided on Hotel Laimer Hof because of the Amazing Number of Repeat Visitors, Location close to Nymphenburg Palace, and a Cute Picture of them in Octoberfest Costumes.

Situation only 15 mins by public transport from the city centre and in a quiet cul de' sac neighborhood, walking distance to the Nymphenburg Palace, Hirchgarten restaurant and many other local restaurants, it's location was perfect for our 6 night stay.

This beautifully renovated hotel was nicely located in a beautiful section of Munich close to the Nymphenburg Palace.

Near Nymphenburg Palace which also then gives access to the hop on hop off bus tours of Munich.

It’s especially nice to stay so close to the Nymphenburg palace if you’d like to go out for a run in the morning.

Located in a quiet middle class residential neighborhood within walking distance to Nymphenburg Palace and the tram to the main train station and the fairgrounds for Oktoberfest.

We didn’t take advantage of Laimer Hof’s proximity to Nymphenburg Palace,

The hotel itself is in a great location - super close to the Nymphenburg Palace and within walking distance of the amazing Hirschgarten, where we dined both nights.

The hotel was in a lovely quiet area yet within easy access to the city centre, there were numerous restaurants within a 10 minute walk of the hotel as well as being close to the Nymphenburg palace for a relaxing evening walk.

It is also very close to Nymphenburg Palace and grounds that are beautiful and very peaceful!

Just around the corner from the Nymphenburg Palace and close by public transport.

The Nymphenburg palace was within walking distance.

Our first time to Munich and Oktoberfest and Sebastian gave us wonderful tips on how to get there and what tents to visit for an authentic Bavarian experience.

My husband and I stayed during Oktoberfest at Hotel Laimer Hof.

and experienced all that Oktoberfest had to offer within 10 mins of jumping on a bus.

Getting to Oktoberfest was a breeze utilizing the tram nearby.

On top of that, how to get to the Oktoberfest and all of the pointers about how to get tables, when the best time to be there is etc.
