The Porto side of the Douro is best reached by taking the cable car by the river to the top of the Gustav Eiffel designed Dom Luis Bridge, and walking across or by taking one of the frequent river taxis

Dick's bar at the Yeatman has a large terrace, and is a great place to have a drink and watch the sun go down, and the food in the 2 Michellin star restaurant was very impressive.

The bridge built by Eiffel illuminated by the lights of Porto formed a spectacular backdrop.

All the rooms face the river and have enormous balconies/terraces, we could see the iconic old bridge designed by Eiffel.

Crossed the famous iron bridge constructed by someone who worked for Eiffel on the lower level.

Each room has a great view of the Eiffel bridge and of picturesque Porto (but it seems the rooms on the higher levels, and further to the left, tend to have the greater views).

It's located at Vila Nova de Gaia which is just across the river Douro from Porto and located close to Porto main attractions (just cross the bridge projected by Eiffel office) and in the middle of all Porto wine companies.

Breakfast is great, with options for every taste, the room was great (the heated floor was a nice surprise), and every service interaction was very nice, with a special mention to Mr. Sergio at the front door, who always had a smile for us.

The rooms are equally beautiful and the lovely treats left for the guests were delicious.

All of the rooms are located below the lobby.

Our room was very spacious and very well appointed with a patio, beautiful grounds and a gorgeous view of the Duoro River and Porto!

The hotel’s location overlooking the Douro River and the historic city provided breathtaking views from my room.

This boutique, luxury property has 89 spacious rooms and 20 suites.

The views from our room (and the restaurants) of Porto were magnificent.

The rooms have stunning rooms of the city and the beds are heavenly.

The rooms, views, facilities, amenities are all first rate.

The rooms are dated and well overdue for a refresh.

Our rooms were beautiful, clean & spacious & came with complimentary port & other goodies.

The staff is incredibly efficient and helpful, and rooms are large and beautifully appointed, and the amenities are all 5-star class.

Rooms are modern and spacious, with full accommodations.

The hotel is beautiful and well kept and the views from the room were amazing.

We arrived early, were allowed to go to our rooms early and enjoyed our 3 days here.

The panoramic river view rooms were modern, well-appointed, and featured portrait quality views of the city, river and historic bridges,  from the large balconies.

The food was excellent and our room was luxurious and an oasis for us after a day of site-seeing.

although quite busy resulting in somewhat slow service.

Most of the staff were involved with the wedding as service to our table was slow and very spasmodic.

As others have mentioned, sometimes the service was a bit slow (e.g.

Some time was wasted at the restaurant also as service could be so slow.

We and others had to track down the attendant to order drinks, the outside pool is freezing, and service in the lounges was also slow.

but slightly slow service at times, the sub par breakfast) it has the best view of anywhere in Porto and a multitude of terraces to take it in from.

My only complaint is that checkin was slow.

but rather slow, at the rhythm of people enjoying their holidays, which can sometimes be frustrating for those who are there on business.

and it is slow to come; only the minimum number of towels are provided, so again, when needed (which is always an inconvenient time), you have to ask for more.

The first is the service in the bar, which could be painfully slow and inattentive at times, in contrast with the rest of the hotel.

but in this overpriced, highbrow, so called upscale hotel the internet is so slow and inconsistent I gave up trying to use it.

The internet connection we were given on check-in proved to be slow and difficult until we accidentally discovered that the suite had its own dedicated connection that worked just fine.

Valet service also slow and everyone had to ask their colleagues for things to happen.

The Reasons the Yeatman Isn’t One of Our 5 Stars:  

The service at Dick’s Bar is incredibly slow.

On other occasions we found the service in the bar in the evenings very slow and were ignored by the waiting staff for 20 minutes one evening.

Checkin check out desk was slow even if it was not busy.

Service was often very slow especially in the bar where the wait staff seemed more interested in chatting to one another than serving.

First of all, The service is very slow in general.

Spa is sensational and had one of the best breakfast in recent memory.

Spa and pool large and clean and empty of clients.

The spa is unusable due to slippery floors.

I had a fantastic massage at the spa and all of the recommendations the team made were wonderful.

Spa is great, views fabulous, wine is of course outstanding.

The spa treatments were reasonably priced and the staff did a great job.

From our spacious room with luxury bed, spa bathroom, private balcony overlooking a view of the town, to Michelin dinners and incredible breakfast on the patio, topped off with piano music and fado singer & musicians in the evening.

We had a spa afternoon experience at the Yeatman which included an afternoon tea.

but the absolute must visit is their spa.

Add in the spacious rooms, great food, grand views, fantastic spa and an indoor pool that was the best I’ve been in, and we can’t recommend the Yeatman enough.

This is all topped with some of the best most refined food in Europe and a top class SPA.

The restaurant, spa, and overall charm of this place cannot be beaten.

Two pool options and stylish spa were welcome opportunities to unwind in a jam-packed itinerary.

although I can’t understand why else you would be here – the hotel has an excellent indoor pool and Spa.

The hotel has the most fabulous view from every room, even the relaxation room in the spa.

The spa was unreal - love that they use Caudalie products (made from grapes) to complement the wine theme throughout the hotel.

This is a treat of a hotel to stay in - excellent location on the nice side of Porto, great views and lovely facilities (pool, spa).

The massages in the spa are wonderful and instantly relaxed us, you shouldn’t miss the unique shower experience next to the Turkish bath (steam room).

Nothing was ever too much for them and they were so helpful and kind.

Staff were very helpful and apologetic if needed to be.

The staff was very well trained and very accommodating!

Amazing hotel along with amazing staff, food and surrounding things and events to do.

The front desk staff are very helpful and Alicia at The Concierge desk is a national treasure.

Bar staff took 40 minutes to locate a couple of brandy baloons.

The hotel staff was very helpful & always gracious.

The staff and service is amazingly friendly.

With this change, The Yeatman was kind enough to work with us and refund us on that final night stay.

They were wonderful—especially Ines at the front desk.

The attention to detail was excellent and the service from all the staff there was outstanding.

Everyone at the hotel was wonderful - from check-in, the concierge, restaurants, and check-out - made sure we had a fantastic stay!

It is actively promoted throughout the hotel, from staff recommendations, to discount tickets in the room to even an entire book written on the project and placed in guest rooms for residents to read and understand the ‘greatness’ of this concept.

We even met Adrian, CEO of the Yeatman and were pleasantly surprised at his helpful suggestions for our continued stay.

After checking in, guests will have an OMG moment when they step out of their private terrace or balcony and stare at the view of the entire city of Porto.

We also attended the monthly wine party on the terrace, and it was FANTASTIC!

The beds are very comfortable, room is large and accommodating and the patio terrace was lovely at night to see the view of porto in action.

The view was amazing huge terrace gorgeous view.

Our room overlooked the Douro River and we had our own private terrace with two lounge chairs.

It's a 3 minute drive down to the bridge, you put the car the cheap parking right opposite its base and you walk in comfort to the popular "Ribeira" bank and square with a host of restaurants and terraces without any climbing or steep descents.

The views from our rooms terrace were stunning and you felt like you hovering in the clouds.

although they are open in the evenings as well, and Dicks Bar, which is a perfect place to enjoy a glass or two outside on the terrace, or relaxing in the comfy sofas.

The view from the room and terrace over the Douro is wonderful; equally from the pool/sun terrace or Dick's Bar.

Absolutely stunning hotel with exceptional views and seamless customer service 

The rooms was spacious with an outdoor terrace overlooking the Douro river.

Every room has a river view and a terrace and we soon got used to the slightly convoluted route down to our room via 2 lifts and 3 long corridors.

The views from the terraces are splendid and Porto is just a little walk away; if you do not fancy the bridge, the small ferry is a perfect option.

The staff was very attentive, Rodrigo and Jose,  Anastasia and Leonor at the terrace’s restaurant  were always nice and helpful.Alicia Soares went far and beyond to organize “the perfect schedule” in one day to visit some  porto lodges and have a super nice lunch at Fladgate restaurant (Taylor).Nice breakfast with plenty of options, we had a perfectly well made omelette by Cecilia?, the nice brazilian lady.

Plus, on several levels you have easy access direct to the large grassed terrace below the pool so no need to traipse down the interior corridors which wrap around the cliff.

I recommend visiting if you are in Porto even if just to sit on the terrace for a bit.

The following day we watched the Port Dow racing from the terrace bar.

We loved the view of old Porto from our terrace.

They both had terraces and special views over the River.

Quite simply for a hotel whose website boasts “the best views over Porto and the Douro River”, the view of 4 tower cranes and a large building site from the bedroom was a letdown.

On the other side of Porto, the views are fantastic.

The hotel is perched up on a hill and the views of Porto are stunning.

Every room has a gorgeous view of the river and the old city of Porto.

Perched up above the city you wake to wonderful views and you can also enjoy these from the outdoor pool, breakfast and dinner.

Hotel is located on a hill with fabulous views of old Porto and a short walking distance to a bridge over Duoro.

When here, walk the floors to view all the art and artifacts.

All of the restaurants have views, the whole place is romantic.

It was heaven to come back to the Yeatman at the end of a day of touring around to just relax by the beautiful infinity pool overlooking the city (doing a Douro wine valley tour is an absolute must, & the river cruise was wonderful as well).

The concierge was fantastic, arranging our day trip to the Douro Valley on about 4 hours notice, and restaurants were absolutely top-notch, and the location was absolutely ideal - overlooking the river and Ribiero Historic District -

We just finished a three day stay at this beautiful hotel in Gaia overlooking the magical city of Porto.

After checking in, we had OMG moment when we stepped on our balcony and stared at the view of the entire city of Porto.

It’s a gorgeous property and the wine cellars are well worth a visit.

The Yeatman exceeded all my expectations, and I eagerly anticipate my next visit to this wine lover’s paradise in Porto.

Each elevator has a 360-degree photograph giving you the impression you are in the Douro Valley or a large wine cellar.

The hotel recommended (during the check in orientation) sampling the ‘myriad dining facilities’ at the nearby World of Wine complex (a property development from the same company).

I would be remiss if I didn't mention the astonishing number of stunning Port wines, many of which we sampled.

Nothing around this hotel except World of Wine and Taylor Winery.

I almost forgot to mention the 2 star Michelin restaurant which was a delight to eat in, especially if you have the wine pairing.

The bar in the hotel offers a great variety of local wines by the glass - very recommendable to try different styles.

We signed up for a monthly wine dinner, which we checked with reception would be fine for English speakers.

We thoroughly enjoyed our private wine dinner on our last night which brought to an end our fabulous week.

Location wise it’s next to Taylor’s and World of Wine and a walk down to the river / across to Porto on the high or low levels of the bridge.

We didn't stay at the yeatman -- we just went to the terrace for lunch and wine as we heard the view of Porto was nice.

We attended the gala dinner which was a fabulous evening of good food, wine, song and a stunning view of the fireworks.

An excellent wine list, the best restaurant in town (The Gastronimic rather than the Orangery), and the hotel is very close to all the port houses in Gaia.

Our last night, since we were tired from our scenic and interesting wine tour of the Douro valley, we sat in Dick’s Bar at Thé Yeatman, had a delicious charcuterie board, drank local wine, listened to excellent pianists and watched the sunset.

The buffet dinner was some of the best food we ate in the entire country.

The buffet dinner was incredible, as was the breakfast.

The room was quiet, the bed was comfortable, and the buffet food at dinner and breakfast had something for every taste.

And the price comforts you in the feeling you are booking a hotel, not a motel…

A highlight of the stay (aside from the view) was the buffet dinner and breakfast, which was honestly the best buffet experience we've had.

Our hotel offered the only dinner service in the area - buffet dinner was very good - lots of variety.

We booked the buffet for dinner and breakfast and both did not disappoint.

I would give them credit for their buffet meals dinner and lunch was very good given the remoteness if this place they have a great team of chefs and staff.

The buffet food was an incredible spread, efficient staff, friendly receptionist/s, very satisfying housekeeping ….

The buffet breakfast and dinner in the hotel were awesome.

but both dinner and breakfast were really good.

The food in the buffet was a good standard with a lot of choice.

I loved the other food from the dinner and breakfast buffet as well.

even though dinner buffet felt samey, it was actually quite nice.

The dining experience was truly delightful, with a delectable array of options for both dinner and breakfast.

Breakfast and dinner buffet in the Alpine Restaurant was amazing with a great selection of interesting and delicious food.

The buffet breakfast and dinner had a great selection of quality healthy food.

While we loved our outdoor experience of the Tasman Glacier ( wonderful guides), we had to sadly forgo the stargazing experience on account of clouds.

but they say that Mount Cook is often covered with clouds so it's nice to have an extra day or 2 in your plans if that is the case.

but clouds cleared and that evening and the next day was spectacular.

The room itself was very comfortable with amazing views of the clouds hiding the mountains,

We were fortunate enough to have two days of this beautiful view, whereas the day we left it was covered in cloud and raining.

We stayed two nights and watched the etherial mood of the sky shift with shadows and cloud, sunlight and snow reflections.

but it didn’t stop us from walking the Hooker Valley track, didn’t manage to see Mount Cook close up due to low cloud.

We did the Kea Point walk this morning and it did not disappoint - when the clouds clear and Mt Cook is in view, perfect!

My room was just like any other hotel room except that I was told that the view ,if the cloud lifted, would be spectacular.

All the rooms face the mountain (they couldn't do anything about the clouds and rain) and the free parking is very convenient.

Our room was warm and comfortable with spectacular views of Mt Cook, when the clouds and rain lifted.

Overall a very enjoyable stay , hope to return one day , when mount cook isn’t covered by cloud and explore the beautiful walking trails . 😀

The following morning there was thick cloud

Cook, who was sweet enough to pierce through her clouds for the two nights we stayed.

Cook before the clouds rolled in for the rest of our stay.

While we lucky that the weather cleared up before our excursion, the clouds moved in and kept us from stargazing after dinner.

The weather was kind to us too so we were really lucky and actually got to see the top of it (no clouds in sight)!

We did have a small balcony with wonderful views of Mount Cook at times with no clouds at all.

We were to,d we were so fortunate as the peak is usually under cloud cover.

Card payments ( the only mode) attracted extra charges each time!

To our horror, our room cards were deactivated on day 2.

the front office staff especially Ms. Tiana was unhelpful she made sure that we are charged for the extra hour

They need to change door locks from keys to smart cards and a refurb of this place would be excellent.

Unacceptable given they charge so much and should be treating all reservations the same.

but were charged an exorbitant amount for an unappetising buffet dinner where drinks were an added extra.

The coffee was luke warm & despite asking for a large, received a very small cup, & was charged $6.50!

And charging extra for barista coffee does seem a bit penny-pinching.

however, they charge $10.50 for a bowl of fries that could fit into the my palm of my hand.

Having said that they then charge OTT for the location (only to be expected really) !

but you can't charge $300+ USD/night in peak season and provide this kind of experience.

but my bank statement showed they'd charged $10.

Mother Nature deals bad cards sometimes, and Mount Cook was a wash-out.

The bathroom fan was linked to a jet engine and lit off with the bathroom light switch.Two percent surcharge on all credit card purchases and limited on-site food services.

The hotel needs to look at their reception service, at the price levels they are charging you expect attentive staff.

Hotel charges extra if you use your credit card, in this day and age they should absorb that commission in their rates.

The following day the licence was handed in and the reception arranged for it to be delivered to me in Queenstown with no charge.

but upon reaching receptionist, the manager in charge Ruben [--] told us no room is available but other lodging option was available (the motel in the village, which belong to the same company I guess).

This is the same anywhere in the world, you don't get a view of Central Park or the Eiffel Tower for cheap.

Having said that if you are not guaranteed the new section AVOID  at ALL COSTS.

but an overpriced motel with uncaring staff.

5-star price staying in 2 or 3-star lodge. Disappointing.

The museum costs 25$ per person and allows multiple entries, they have 3D movies.

A la carte restaurant limited menu and over priced.

The rooms which we stayed in was old(they seriously need renovation for this price we pay)lacked space, the rear balcony is shared and full of cigarette smell.

Cost for upstairs rooms are the same so there’s not a reason why she couldnt have just at least checked instead of saying no right away.

This is totally misleading and unfair, especially when we are paying the same room rate v.s higher floors (or just a small difference v.s.

I have never checked in a hotel, paid in full and checked out in the 55 countries i have travelled to, over the decades.

The whole place is very expensive and you get substandard service, even the staff have no idea what is there or what time things are open.

Considering the premium pricing associated with this hotel due to its room views, this was particularly disappointing.

In addition, dining is very expensive, which I understand as it is in such a remote location.
