Many people who want to visit Paris plan to stay near Champs-elysees,

The location is indeed hard to beat – a short walk from the Mabillon or Odeon metro stop (we arrived by train at Gare Austerlitz from Brive, and switched to Line 10), as also the St Michel Notre Dame stop (we used the RER B train to the airport, when we left). A lot of key attractions can be reached on foot (Champs Elysees, Louvre, Notre Dame …. )

Saint Germain is a great location and is very well positioned and safe for tourists, yet still gives you that local feeling you're looking for in Paris - away from the hustle and bustle of areas such as the Champs (but still in walking distance).

The location is great - we were within walking distance of the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Louvre, Musee D'Orsay & Champs Elyses.

I could not recommend this hotel enough for the location  to the Seine and the batobus/water bus stop at either Notre Dame or Saint German de Pres.The hotel is in walking distance to Notre Dame, Musee D'orsay and the Louvre or catch the waterbus to the Eiffel Tower or Champs Elyesse.

You can walk everywhere (Notre Dame, The Louvre, Cluney Museum and down the Champs d'Elysee), and it's close to so many wonderful shops, restaurants and cafes.

For those who like to walk everywhere, you can get up to the Champs Elysees within 40-50 minutes (brisk walking) and Notre-Dame is "just up the road".

We walked to the Louvre, Notre Dame, Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Champs-Elysees and more from the hotel.

The location of the Hotel was perfect 5mins walk from the seine,10-15mins to the Notre Dame,about a 20-25mins leisurely stroll to the Louvre,then a further stroll up the champs Elysees.The Eiffel tower was a bit further so we used the metro which was so easy!You do have to do a lot of walking if you don't you will miss all the wonderful sights!My feet are still aching now

One can walk to Notre Dame and the Louvre comfortably and even locations as distant as the Champs Elysees and the Arc de Triomphe are accessible on foot with a longer walk

I've stayed in a grand hotel on the Champs Elysees, and this experience was much more satisfying, much more the "real Paris", and worth putting up with the tiny room.

It was dark and dingy, we were offered 2 other rooms which none looked like the pictures on their website.

Our "superior" room consisted of 2 narrow hallways between the door, the dirty little bathroom, and the tiny dark room.

The room and bathroom were dark with very poor lighting.

However, I think there are a few needs as below : First, rooms are little bit dark, so when I come back from my day trip, I feel little bit down and tired.

The carpet was dark and spotted in areas, corners not well cleaned, and there were dirty marks all along the hallway at shoulder height.

we were placed in a dark,dingy worn room that would better suit a person or people that don't need any natural light or feelings of normality.

but being on the second floor it was also quite dark and we needed the lights on at all times.

It smelled terribly bad, it was very dark and the carpet was gluey (ie I stood there for approx 10 minutes and my shoes were sticking to the floor!).

It was a bit dark as it had only one window on an interior courtyard so you had to really look up to see the sky.

I should also mention that it felt safe even after dark.

Still on the stairs they are lit by lights on movement sensors and we often found ourselves in the middle of a flight of stairs in the dark which was a little unnerving.

It was also rather dark as it faced a tiny inner courtyard, there was very little daylight.

After entering the door to the second room, I had to walk along 2 long hallways in the dark to get to the room proper.

It was dark, narrow, and the bathroom with no tub was so small - even for Paris - that I declined.

The room itself was quite dark because it overlooked an inner courtyard,

Ideal location for seeing the sights in Paris.

The location is perfect - whether having dinner or un café down the block, or walking to the Seine, Latin Quarter, or Notre Dame.

BUT also wood beams in ceiling, friendly staff, diligent housekeeping, awesome location two blocks from basically everything cool.

We loved the central location just a couple blocks off the Pont Neuf, very easy to walk to the Latin Quarter, the Luxembourg Gardens, the Louvre, even the Marais.

The location couldn't be beat, with easy access to all the city's sites and plenty of metro/bus options if walking was not preferred.

I loved the location and bustling vibe of this hotel and will definitely return for another visit to Paris very soon.

I would stay again because of the excellent staff and location.

The location (6th Arrondissement) is next to many bars, cafes and crêperies.

Would reccomend based on location, comfort and service which for me is always important when looking on a hotel to stay at.

Hotel location was excellent, lots of resraurants and bars nearby at reasonable prices.

It is in an amazing location, a 1 minute walk to the Seine, and then Notre Dame is 5 minutes away.

The location is perfect and close to everything.

The location was fabulous and so convenient to so many attractions.

Over the years I have chosen Hotel Dauphine for it’s fantastic location in the heart of St Germain, close to transport, museums and wonderful restaurants.

It was truly ideal, so close to restaurants and transit and the magical Seine!

rooms are beautiful well appointed and clean. brilliant eating venues right outside and around the corner( Maison Sauvage in my favourite!)

Restaurants and shopping directly across the street.

This hotel is close to many restaurants and shops in Saint Germain.

We were able to walk to all of the main sites we wanted to see, and it's surrounded by good restaurants.

We didn’t pay for breakfast as there are so many places to eat on the doorstep.

The hotel is just around the corner from Rue de Buci which has a number of excellent restaurants to choose from in a bustling and fun area - our favorite was Cafe Buci, while Atlas, a seafood restaurant catty corner from it, also was very good.

Lots of good restaurants as well very close by.

Also, walking distance to Notre Dame, the Louvre, Musee D'Orsay, and of course, the entire Left Bank/Latin Quarter with its restaurants and shops.

Lots of restaurants in the area and within walking distance of a lot of the sights - Notre Dame, Musee du Louvre, Musee d’Orsay, Jardins du Luxembourg etc.

The staff is nice, welcoming, and help us alot with finding great restaurant.

but there are many cafes in the neighborhood that will also serve a decent breakfast.

Very close to transportation, restaurants and shopping.

I am so amazed at how much care the staff took prior to our trip in helping us with arrival questions as well as places to eat near there.

Bathroom Tub drain was stuck for first 2 nights.

The room was small and clean,except the bathroom had an unclean odour.

A complaint about that would be akin to complaining about the sulfur smell in an Icelandic shower.

Not sure if someone had been smoking illicitly before us or it came through the air conditioning.

but ours smelled like someone/something died in it.

Bonus, if you happen to be up at one in the morning, you can smell the croissants being made somewhere in the neighborhood.

Finally, there was an unpleasant moldy smell in the bathroom, which seemed to be very clean.

Soap smelled wonderful! We were on the fifth floor, so in order to get to it, you took an extremely tiny lift (so tiny that one night three people got in it, and it was overloaded!)

The smell persisted and it lasted for approx 1 hour.

The hotel's biggest drawback was the strong scent throughout - clearly intended as a nicety,

My only comment is that the fragrance of the sachets in the public areas is too strong.

Maybe that explained the smell in that room.

Room 14 was tiny, the airconditioning/heating unit was very noisy, and  provided insufficient heat, and the shower efficiently flooded the bathroom while making the person taking the shower only mildly damp.

though we were in smoking rooms (and don't smoke) there was absolutely no smoky residue or odor.

Classic 3-star in the heart of the Left Bank, so bear that in mind: cramped staircases, slow elevator, small bathrooms, tight-squeeze bedrooms.

The rooms with bathtubs have much larger total bathroom space.

but the location more than made up for lack of space.

but parctical use of the space makes the room seem larger.

Our 2 bedroom suite was a very small room with a bed, 2 small chairs,some shelves to put your clothes

Given that this was larger than a standard double, I'd say be careful if you are over 6' tall or weigh much over 200 lbs--you will find it pretty cramped.

They should put some hooks and shelves around, so at least you can hang/put stuff.

Travellers to Paris have to expect rooms to be small, unless you really are paying for space.

There needs to be more modern space to keep clothing.

My room was cramped and virtually no light.

but not so small that we couldn't move, and there was a nice chifforobe with hangers and shelves if you're staying long enough to unpack.

There were no drawers so we ended up living out of our suitcases which I hate .

Do not come here if you are looking for vast space in your room; you will not find it in most hotels of this calibre.

The items they show as features in their brochure, are just strange and take up space, such as an old intercom, jammed next to the night stand.

but I doubt anyone who is use to space would be able to use it.

You can ask them to remove the drinks so you have more space for your goodies.

The room layout made the space feel bigger - the room door opens into a small hallway with a mirror, bathroom (separate room) to the right off the entry hallway, which then opens to the left, to the bedroom (with a window).

Well looked after by all the lovely staff, especially the great guys on reception, nothing was too much trouble.

but clean with well appointed rooms, a nice staff and a pleasant breakfast.

It's charming, and the charm level is equalled (if not surpassed by) the staff.

Room was a good size for Paris, staff were friendly.

We had to have our keys reset, because we got locked out, of our room, and we had to call to figure out the a/c, because our room was stuffy.

The main reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the air conditioning in the rooms is not good.

but not great, had to keep the drapes drawn in the afternoon to help control the heat, hotel did nothing to remedy this, they finally sent me a tower fan which just blows hot air.

The only minus would be that the airco in the bedroom was too weak.

but not cold; however we are Americans and used to air conditioning!

We showed them proof of the rate we had accepted.The air conditioning in the children's room did not work properly throughout our stay, even after the hotel said they had solved the problem.

The thermostats heat the room no matter the setting.

My daughter had no hot water the first day of our 6 day visit and a fan was brought to her room as her air conditioning was not working.

The conference facilities were not so good, poor air conditioning left the rooms unpleasantly hot.

The carpet is dingy, the air conditioning is barely functional.

Our room was too hot with a tricky thermostat, so they found us another well-appointed room right away.

Surprisingly the impressive historical background is not suffocating.

We were moved to two other rooms and the air conditioning did not work in one of the rooms, so another room had to be found.

Perhaps I needed a guide on how to work the heating/cooling unit,

We call and they bring two fans, saying you cannot put on the a/c when the system is on heat.

As many other travelers have stated the air conditioning is completely not reliable.

Needs remolding of carpets and air conditioning units in each room.

However, they did not fix the air conditioning issue despite asking 2 times.

There was also a loud noise from the air con due to general wear and tear which did keep us awake.

The hotel offers free shuttle rides back to Paris, either Opera or Champs-Elysees.

Sadly this restaurant was closed then for a conference and we were made to eat in another restaurant which felt, in view of Covid, very crowded with much coughing.

However they closed (there was no fire) and it really made a lot of noise each time a person would go through the heavy fire doors.

I had noticed that the website indicated that the restaurant would be closed for renovation and would open just a couple of weeks before our arrival, so timing was perfect.

The gate was already closed and there was a security guy in the front that was supposed to let late-arrival guests in.

Their is no bar as such except for the annex type bar that was closed ON NEW YEARS EVE.

The main Gorda Ramsay restaurant was closed, so we ate twice at the GR Veranda restaurant.

The visit started out badly as Versailles palace was closed during our visit because of a strike, we did not find out until we arrived.

On arrival day 1 - 5pm Restaurant was closed, dined on the veranda where we ordered 2 steaks @ 55$ each, they were not good.

On the day of our departure, we checked out, left our bags to head to the palace (which was closed on Monday, our only full day there).

I also had to deal with a station being closed and being re-routed.

We did not get to try Gordon Ramsey's restaurant for diner because it was closed,

Issues, they should tell us at check in that Versailles is closed on Mondays.

A Gordon Ramsay restaurant (which was closed while we were there, not sure why) But they do have a "Terrace Restaurant" and if the weather cooperates you can sit outside and look over what apparently was the pasture that Marie Antoinette had her lambs, there still there.

by the time we got there they were mopping and cleaning up the pool area and basically closed early without the front desk knowing.

It also was a bit disorganized -- with considerable confusion concerning bags, the main restaurant was closed, the bar only has "house wine" (this is France !

The pool was a little cold the 2nd day- maybe the doors need to be closed!

Overall poor experience from checkin to room maintenance and not getting the room we paid for due to unadvertised renovations that have closed two of the 5 floors.

Here's why:

The Pro's
- Location, it is only a couple of minutes from the side entrance to Versailles, perfect for early morning entrance or the evening firework and fountain show.

Location is great ' adjacent to the Gardens.

This hotel is located very close to the Palace of Versailles which is very convenient.

Perfect location - just next to the Versailles, it's literally a few minutes walking distance and seen from the window.

The hotel is located very close to the Palace (see my separate review on Chateau Versailles).

The hotel is literally across the street from the palace so location cannot be beat.

The location is superb for visiting the Chateau and gardens - it's a short walk to one of the gates.

The hotel is beautiful & in a great location - being close to Versailles & the town.

In terms of positives, the hotel is wonderfully situated on the edge of Versailles, you could not ask for a better location.

I really enjoyed my stay with this Waldorf hotel, as it has a unique location close to the palace of Versailles.

The location is simply superb; it is right across from the side entrance to Versailles, meaning that you can enter in the morning and have the gardens totally to yourself.

The staff were wonderful and the location and grounds beautiful.

Rooms starting at €250 is not bad for the location.

The hotel is located next to the park entrance of Versailles very nice and it is a 15 min walk to the main entrance of the Chateau.

The service, the location, the staff and the food was very good.

but with a few improvements/pushes from management to elevate the guest experience this could be a great option to the central Paris five-star properties, many which frankly are not worth the exorbitant room rates they charge.

Upon confronting the newly promoted manager she laughed and hung up the phone when I asked for GM.

Since it was Sunday, and they apparently had no manager on duty or anyone with authority they could get me in touch with (at a luxury property, they had no manager on duty on a Sunday at 10am?

but after having taken away the item, there was no follow up from management where typically brand standards would dictate at least a card?

The General Manager and his Team should be proud of what they can control in terms of service which is at at least as good as any other 5 star hotel anywhere in the World and I have no doubt that when the required investment in renovating and updating parts of the hotel does happen, it will once again be as grand as it was when in first opened its doors as a Waldorf Astoria hotel.

I highly suggest management invests in some service training for their staff and learn how to be more inviting.

The supervisors / managers were very sharp and it was not beyond them to remove dirty dishes as they walked by our table.

Upon check-out I was told that a manager would contact me via email.

To become a first-class hotel, management needs to make major improvements to the restaurants.

It is clear that should you have an issue while staying you are unlikely to receive a response from the Hotel Manager or for him to care about your experience.

Despite all the lovely things about the hotel, it was let down badly, in our view, by the housekeeping and the failure of the senior management to make any kind of apology or response after the matter  was brought to their attention via email from my daughter while we were at the hotel.

I asked to speak with the F&B manager who was so rude to me.

Seriously - this hotel needs new management.

The manager tried to explain to me why this bath tub leaked. Really?

But I had to fight for that, the manager at first offered us two drinks.

To manager, please do not send me the copied response you give to everyone.

Unfortunately, the pool was shut "for maintenance" for the second summer in a row (this time in July, last year in August) -- either a poor excuse or bad management.

The General Manager wrote back personally insisting that we had to pay for a second room for our newborn twins because of the hotel's "fire code".

but it was slow and often staff had to be prompted for ordering, clearing etc.

Unfortunately the food and the service when ordering is very slow and chaotic and not on par with the expected level of such a place and at such prices.

They do not know how to serve wine, clear a table, stand around empty-handed, slow and indifferent.

Service in the terrace bar was slow and erratic and breakfast bordered on chaotic.

Unfortunately, the food was unsatisfactory and the service was slow.

The two most notable things that were off were the lifts, which are ridiculously small and slow and the bathroom, which had a couple of broken fittings and a poorly designed bath tub that took an eternity to fill.

Service was very slow and dirty plates were only removed after quite a long time.

Service in restaurants in slow, rude, and dry (but then again I gather the justification for the crowds there is the limited choices in the area perhaps?).

Take a drink and baguette as the food options are minimal and queues long, service VERY slow (seems to be a French characteristic)
9.30 tour of the Kings chambers was brilliant!

Nothing too special for a Christmas brunch..
Not to mention pretty much everyone had bookings yet they made all the guests line up for 15-20 minutes since they have really slow seating arrangements.

though is the slow service (especially at the Gallery Bar), lack of follow through from staff (I asked a question from someone at the La Verandah restaurant and she said she would check with the chef and never returned), and staff who are unable to communicate with guests unless you speak French.

Room service was also a little slow this time,

Let down by slow breakfast drinks service (and toaster not working), some slight stagnant water smell in room and disappointing view on 1st floor.

but staff a little stiff and slow with service, otherwise great.

We thought the service was slow and there were times we wondered if the staff remembered we were still there.

A lovely tree lined street with very limited and slow through-traffic, that culminates in the golden entrance to the Versailles park and estate.

we are there to celebrate our only anniversary , the hotel just spread rose petals on the floor which half of them has change colour and begin to smell It makes the room looks dirty.

Th bad:
During our stay, the entire lobby smelled like horse poop… I know, it sounds funny

I didn’t like that I had to walk through water to enter. Gross.
