Plaster patchwork on the walls, uneven picture hanging, dust on furniture, dirty vents, broken door chain.

There are hot days, even on the coast, this hotel has no AC.

This hotel has no air conditioning and the room was so hot it was unbearable!

Plus, if you need a little more air, you can find an oscillating fan in the closet as there is no A/C.

Unit faces an old metal building, and the power lines would collapse if one more wire was hung.

I called the front desk to ask how to operate the AC and discovered the hotel doesn’t have an AC.

But next time we know to book an unit with no one above us! !

There are 2 smaller units with 2 floors that is connected to the main hotel area.

Very old fashioned and no air conditioning - a fan was provided.

A few reviewers complained about the lack of a/c.

i suggest you reconsider before booking if you're okay with a room without aircondition.

They offer a wine & cheese time in the late afternoon (tea & lemonaid for non-drinkers), and a full breakfast in the am (eggs, meat, fruit, breads, oatmeal, waffles, cereals and beverages).

The morning breakfast was well done and the afternoon wine & cheese was a super nice touch.

Afternoon wine/cheese hour (5-6pm) offers cheddar and Gouda plus crackers and Red Delicious apples (which are salty — I would change that, btw) plus a Sav Blanc and Cab Sauvignon, lemonade and iced tea. Dog-friendly!

Charming hotel, reasonably price, in easy walking distance to Cannery Row and the Presidio.

I loved everything about it: location close to Cannery Row and Aquarium, cordial and welcoming staff, tasty hot breakfast, spacious room with fireplace (I was lucky to have mine on the third floor), lovely evening wine & cheese reception, good internet connection: everything was perfect!

I took the family here for a couple of nights to visit the aquarium and Pacific Grove.

Very easy to walk to Cannery Row, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Pier, Presidio, local breweries and restaurants.

It sits two blocks up from Cannery Row and was an easy walk to the shops/restaurants and the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Excellent location, we walked just minutes to get to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Cannery Row shops, etc..

I love the location - just a short walk to the Monterey Bay Aquarium via Cannery Row.

And you really can't beat the location; just a few blocks from Cannery Row, tons of good restaurants, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Although it was very clearly stated on their website, we were also informed about the daily parking fee of $17 before signing and given a parking pass to display on our dashboard.

So I was not pleased with the prospect of a non refundable nights stay, pay the unjust parking fee, or have my vehicle at risk!!!!

Cons:  No microwave in room, no pool/jacuzzi, $16/day parking fee.

The only thing that bothered me was the parking fee ($16 per day).

Like many places in Monterey, there is a fee for parking, which is in a lot underneath the hotel.

Also there is a 15.00 per day parking fee that is attached on to your bill.

However, for $288 per night on the weekend, plus taxes and parking fees, it was not worth the money.

They do charge for parking in their underground garage.

(We didn't want to have to pay for parking downtown and then go pay it at hotel).

Finally, the price we booked at was $250 a night (plus parking and tax)

Disgusting behaviour, and if guests are going to act so irresponsibly with their hairy muts then maybe it shouldn't be a dog-accepting place.

I had to ask the woman at the reception desk twice to have someone unclog the drain.

In the morning, we the towel was remove, it's like a flies trap. Grossed!!!

If you smoke, don't stay here as it's a non-smoking hotel.

The room was in need of an urgent makeover with rips to the curtains and stains on the chairs. The bed linen was cheap, thin and didn’t feel very clean (and didn’t smell newly washed!)

Front desk night management, Rufus, was nasty, rude and threatening when we asked to upgrade to a quieter, cleaner room.

Smell of ongoing painting lead to us having headaches and nausea at night.

Place needs a current day remodel- rooms smell aged - for 400 bucks you would think that it might be more than roadside motel 
HORRIBLE - NEVER TO RETURN - BEWARE

I turned it on and immediately there was a strong smell of gas.

I was worried that the older looking (but clean) carpets would harbor some "old dog smell" in them,

Hotel lobby very small, when you enter you have to look for checking desk, front desk clerk need training, Water presser in shower very very low, breakfast items were almost out by 9:20 am and is not up to best western standard, room carpet was filthy.

HOWEVER, the smell of cigarette smoke every night was not cool.

They use some sort of perfumed cleaning product which burned my eyes.

We walked in and the smell of urine just hit you.

The only thing I noticed about the hotel is that it had an odor  of  being musty (older dusty smelling furnitutre) -mostly out in the hallways not so much in the guest rooms.

The daily breakfast and wine and cheese in the evening that were included were wonderful.

Wine and cheese was served at 4pm in the dining room which was a nice touch.

We informed the hotel of our anniversary trip details and were greeted with wine and chocolates and a lovely note of congratulations in our room.

They also had wine time with free wine and cheese and other goodies

The wine and cheese hour was also nice and catered to non drinkers as well (like our kids).

Breakfast is terrific; wine and cheese hour too!.

The wine and cheese hour was fun and the breakfast everymorning was quality.

It was so awesome to be able to sit in comfortable chairs, sip wine, and enjoy a glowing fireplace.

The evening wine and cheese was fine, wine was quite palatable and I am pretty picky.

Wine and cheese hour from 5 - 6 pm the night we arrived was a great plus!

She ushered us into the breakfast area where they were having wine, cheese and crackers.

Upon arrival we were assigned a room - Room 104 that had no air conditioning.

The heating and air conditioning were very slow to reach desired temperature.

We found a great rate on their 'Classic Room', (not sure we would have been able to stay otherwise) only thing was the AC wasn't working and wasn't fixed during our stay,

The next day I had to ask several times to please bring a fan instead.

Only issue we had was our thermostat was giving a code and we couldn’t get the Air Conditioner to come on.

But, rooms are small, bathroom vent didn't work, led lights flicker, hair drier cheap.

but we had to start a space heater to get warm at night.

There was no way to open the window in my room & no ac so it was extremely stuffy.

No room service, valet parking or air conditioning.

No air conditioning, and this fact is not listed on website.

Heads up though, there is no AC in the rooms.

Bathroom much too small and with no water pressure and no air circulation.

Not having air conditioning or lifts was really not a problem.

Then we get to our extremely small, extremely dated hotel room and realize - there is no a/c.

It should be noted that there is no air conditioning.

Guests should be aware that there is no AC, and the hotel is not accessible to people with disabilities.

The vent noise, along with the kitchen smells, went from 6AM to 10PM both nights we were there.

I normally would not stay at a hotel without AC

but it is the worst hotel with no air-conditioning incredibly small rooms with antiquated bathrooms that have slip and fall tubs and barely a drip of water pressure.

The complimentary breakfast is a yummy and expansive spread with a waffle and omelette station and a variety of options.

From the breakfast buffet, the comfortable seating vignettes placed throughout, the fresh fruit and beverages that were quickly replenished,  the 2-5 pm wine tasting,  to the warm fire and freshly baked cookies greeting you at night, just before going to bed, nothing was spared to give each guest an experience.

The complimentary breakfast is the best we've ever experienced, and the complimentary wine and cookies every day was a nice touch.

The gourmet mimosa breakfast is seriously one of the best I’ve had.

The breakfast included was top notch and the views at breakfast of the ocean were magnificent   We would stay here again for sure

We especially loved the included breakfast, with its vast assortment of offerings, including an omelet and waffle station and delicious pastries.

In addition to the buffet, you will find an omelette and waffle stand.

The staff could not have been more pleasant and the breakfast was unbelievable.

Food at the hotel was delicious and the whole place was very welcoming and comfortable.

La Playa has the best views, best breakfast, best WiFi, best showers, and amazing staff.

From our contact at the front desk with Kathleen who was so friendly and welcoming to Brenda our attentive and great server at breakfast everything was great.

Extra bonus such as the evening  drinks and cookies were fantastic and the daily breakfast was a standout.

Wine in the afternoon and warm cookies at night, as well as a delicious breakfast each morning make you want to move in permenantly.

We were offered sangria upon arrival, made use of the hotel shuttle into town for dinner, there were fresh baked chocolate chips cookies in the lobby from 730-9pm, and a champagne breakfast included in our stay the next morning which was excellent.

Don't sleep on the champagne breakfast -- we thought it might be a nice continental situation,

Complimentary Sangrias were a nice touch, and the breakfast was delicious.

The champagne breakfast that was included every morning was by far the best hotel breakfast we've ever had and the staff is so friendly and accomodating!

The other agent was exceptional as well as she spoke with another guest about the amenities provided—dining shuttle, the cookies, breakfast, happy hour, etc.

They hand out sangria if you desire in the afternoons and cookies at night.

Indulge in complimentary hosted wine every evening, delight in the availability of refreshing baked chocolate chip cookies at 7:30, and awaken to a delectable complimentary breakfast each morning.

As part of staying in this historic Ghirardelli property, the property advertises its Ghirardelli chocolate chip cookies as a special perk of the stay.

The sangria in the afternoon and chocolate chip cookies in the evening are nice additions.

From the incredibly helpful and cheerful staff, to the extra touches throughout the day offered in the lobby (chocolate chip cookies, wine and other beverages) as well as the the delicious champagne brunch, La Playa Carmel goes above and beyond at each turn.

This hotel is a boutique style, with nice extras such as sangria or wine in the afternoon, warm chocolate chip cookies in the evening and a delicious breakfast buffet.

The breakfast was exceptional and the chocolate chip cookies at night were the best I have had over the years.

"Champagne" is low end Proseco, amenities in the room are a mix, tho the fresh cookies served every evening are wonderful.

Various amenities are also enjoyable such as the hotel lobby, wine tasting, and evening chocolate chip cookies.

The bar was so fun and sangria happy hour along with nightly chocolate chip cookies by the fireplace is such a nice touch.

Great service by friendly and knowledgeable staff.La Playa is a gem of a place with great ambience and wonderful small surprises like wine tasting, warm cookies and a bargain of a breakfast.

Our room was lovely, as were the gardens on the property.

Ocean view room was a great choice, overlooking the pool, gardens, and waves breaking offshore.

Garden and grounds are very nice with outdoor seating areas and beautiful pool.

My favorite part of our stay was the breakfast, flower garden, and common area.

Whether it was the incredible gardens or large planters exploding with flowers,  it was all amazing.

The ambience is out of this world..a spectacular garden, a sea view of the glorious Carmel beach, the friendliest staff imaginable, a scrumptious breakfast with a mesmerizing view, cute, modernized bedrooms, and a staff that is professional and friendly..The best!

In addition to the beautiful ocean view, the room overlooked the splendid hotel garden.

The gardens are beautiful and the room was nice.

Every member of the staff was terrific..Our king ocean view was comfortably warm and inviting with the views of the lush gardens and ocean.

Saying the grounds are beautiful is an understatement.

Beautiful grounds, attentive staff, peaceful stay, walking distance to the beach, restaurants and shops.

The grounds are ordained with flowering bushes and plants, lush grass, swimming pool, and fountains.

I’m not a high roller so I would try to go back on a weekday and avoid the high rates on the weekend.

For a hotel of this cost, the experience should have been much better.

but does not appear to be on top of its game…especially for the price.

Why not fully disclose the Reno and adjust the the very high 5 star prices for the inconvenience and impact on your guests?

For those who don't mind paying a premium and for those (often like us) who specifically look to pay a premium by choice-because of what that comes with.

However, the rooms are tiny, for the price they charge.

But the room experience and astronomical price left a sour taste in my mouth and it's going to be hard to recommend this to others at this point.

Very expensive for small rooms even for Carmel.

although it was expensive, considering they both comments.

But the noisy room and almost doubled price from last stay were biggest disappointment

Drink prices are somewhat high even for Carmel.

I was told breakfast was not included in the price of the room

This is an older property and the rooms and bathrooms are a little small and dated given the price points

but living in Texas I would have never even thought to question the ac situation when you are spending $1,100/night + taxes for a hotel room.

For rates over $1000/night, I expected more.
