Plaster patchwork on the walls, uneven picture hanging, dust on furniture, dirty vents, broken door chain.

There are hot days, even on the coast, this hotel has no AC.

This hotel has no air conditioning and the room was so hot it was unbearable!

Plus, if you need a little more air, you can find an oscillating fan in the closet as there is no A/C.

Unit faces an old metal building, and the power lines would collapse if one more wire was hung.

I called the front desk to ask how to operate the AC and discovered the hotel doesn’t have an AC.

But next time we know to book an unit with no one above us! !

There are 2 smaller units with 2 floors that is connected to the main hotel area.

Very old fashioned and no air conditioning - a fan was provided.

A few reviewers complained about the lack of a/c.

i suggest you reconsider before booking if you're okay with a room without aircondition.

They offer a wine & cheese time in the late afternoon (tea & lemonaid for non-drinkers), and a full breakfast in the am (eggs, meat, fruit, breads, oatmeal, waffles, cereals and beverages).

The room, (with fire) the views across the bay, the cheese and wine, the breakfast and the staff.

Great free breakfast, nice wine and cheese hour in the evening.

The morning breakfast was well done and the afternoon wine & cheese was a super nice touch.

Afternoon wine/cheese hour (5-6pm) offers cheddar and Gouda plus crackers and Red Delicious apples (which are salty — I would change that, btw) plus a Sav Blanc and Cab Sauvignon, lemonade and iced tea. Dog-friendly!

The breakfast staff works hard to keep things stocked and clean

It's the best of both worlds here; the historic Victorian home is a great place to relax and read, and the breakfast in the dining room is delicious!

Breakfast was plentiful - waffles, fruit, cereal, porridge/oatmeal, toast, bagels and hot options which varied each day.

Excellent breakfast and wine and cheese eve.

We felt welcomed and pampered from check-in, to the wine hour, sparkling water and chocolates in the room, ending with a delicious hot breakfast of omelets and sausages.

But be sure to get for the amazing breakfast before IT ENDS. .

Although it was very clearly stated on their website, we were also informed about the daily parking fee of $17 before signing and given a parking pass to display on our dashboard.

So I was not pleased with the prospect of a non refundable nights stay, pay the unjust parking fee, or have my vehicle at risk!!!!

Cons:  No microwave in room, no pool/jacuzzi, $16/day parking fee.

The only thing that bothered me was the parking fee ($16 per day).

Like many places in Monterey, there is a fee for parking, which is in a lot underneath the hotel.

Also there is a 15.00 per day parking fee that is attached on to your bill.

However, for $288 per night on the weekend, plus taxes and parking fees, it was not worth the money.

They do charge for parking in their underground garage.

(We didn't want to have to pay for parking downtown and then go pay it at hotel).

Finally, the price we booked at was $250 a night (plus parking and tax)

Disgusting behaviour, and if guests are going to act so irresponsibly with their hairy muts then maybe it shouldn't be a dog-accepting place.

I had to ask the woman at the reception desk twice to have someone unclog the drain.

In the morning, we the towel was remove, it's like a flies trap. Grossed!!!

If you smoke, don't stay here as it's a non-smoking hotel.

The room was in need of an urgent makeover with rips to the curtains and stains on the chairs. The bed linen was cheap, thin and didn’t feel very clean (and didn’t smell newly washed!)

Front desk night management, Rufus, was nasty, rude and threatening when we asked to upgrade to a quieter, cleaner room.

Smell of ongoing painting lead to us having headaches and nausea at night.

Place needs a current day remodel- rooms smell aged - for 400 bucks you would think that it might be more than roadside motel 
HORRIBLE - NEVER TO RETURN - BEWARE

I turned it on and immediately there was a strong smell of gas.

I was worried that the older looking (but clean) carpets would harbor some "old dog smell" in them,

Hotel lobby very small, when you enter you have to look for checking desk, front desk clerk need training, Water presser in shower very very low, breakfast items were almost out by 9:20 am and is not up to best western standard, room carpet was filthy.

HOWEVER, the smell of cigarette smoke every night was not cool.

They use some sort of perfumed cleaning product which burned my eyes.

We walked in and the smell of urine just hit you.

The only thing I noticed about the hotel is that it had an odor  of  being musty (older dusty smelling furnitutre) -mostly out in the hallways not so much in the guest rooms.

Embassy Suites is a good choise for business or leisure stays at Seaside, easy freeway access, convenient location to Monterrey attractions and nice and clean place to enjoy your travel, good breakfast choices, easy checkout

The hotel offers a full free breakfast and a free Happy Hour reception.

but having a suite and free breakfast was worth it.

The room size was more than adequate and the morning breakfast was exceptional.

Rooms are large and you can’t beat the free breakfast and happy hour.

The breakfast was top notch for a complimentary buffet.

The morning breakfast buffet is very good, and the staff does a good job of keeping the area clean.

Breakfast buffet is wonderful, omelettes are delicious.

Spacious rooms, clean, remodeled recently, along with a made to order breakfast and an evening reception.

Friendly people in the reception, the best breakfast omelet choices, the cleaning ladies did a wonderful job, hard working staff to make sure your stay is excellent!

I would recommend staying ocean front and not ocean view.

That said, a "destination charge" was assessed for each night that resembles a resort charge.

Be aware of additional / mandatory charges on your bill.

One thing to note: parking fee is $20, and there is also a resort fee of $15/night that is charged.

I was charged $20/day for self-parking - a fee that was not disclosed when the reservation was made.

At a minimum you should be able to save up your credits and apply them to an item you might actually want, like a sweatshirt or something.

We were also charged for parking when the website says it’s included in the rate.

So for the card to be worded the way it is seems. IMO.

Very sad to see that they did not have enough staff to provide the services they promise and charge for.

And yes, charging $15 a night for open surface lot parking seems a little over the top.

The only ouch was the $15 self park charge.

To make matters worse, the thermostat didn’t work, on day two the room card didn’t work (on-site engineer came to pry door open and fix door), and overall the room was very outdated and not reminiscent of a luxury hotel.

1)Have a line in bill called “fees” and taxes, couldn’t explain what fees were and than wanted to charge me for parking.

(Only real negative - they charge $15 for self-parking - even to Diamond Members)

but when I called they explained the charge.

hotels is clearly not at capacity and they still charged me an “hourly rate” for our late checkout. .

Ms. Owens told me that she will charge me an early departure fee of $50 since I booked the second night.

We were right at the elevator and didn't hear a sound.

The elevator situation is that there are 3 elevators,

No room cleaning for 4 days, the air conditioner dripped and the room smelled like a locker room, I had enough coffee for 1 morning only and it wasn't replenished, the elevators were very slow, entire hotel is very tired and shabby with obviously no reinvestment by owners.

I wish there more elevators for the size of the hotel.

One of their three elevators was out of service, so rides up and down could take 4-8 minutes.

The elevator close to our room was out of order.

People piled on to elevators like it was 2018!!!

We did not see any common areas being cleaned such as elevators, computer areas (which were filthy), or railings during the time we were there.

I waited over 30 minutes to order my breakfast omelet, on average it took nearly 5 minutes to get an elevators down to the lobby and the VERY worst of it all was no AC, the unit was just blowing warm stuffy air.

Plus our room was next to the housekeeping/service elevator, where noise from the elevator arriving and service carts being slammed was sometimes very disturbing, waking up our newborn a few times.

but noise from the elevator shaft and wires must travel through air conditioning unit and is throughout the night every time the elevator is used, there is a banging noise.

Dirty linens (blood stains), broken elevator (glass elevators showing family with small children was trapped for two hours, roaring mechanical systems like I've never experiences (avoid room 903) and murky pool left me wanting to go home to shower and get some real sleep.

One of the lifts wasn’t working so had to wait a while for the lift.

A lot of the dry snacks end up all over the floors of the hallways and elevators as kids take their free stuff back up to the room.

One downside is that the elevators are very slow and there are 12 floors (we were on the 9th).

but didn’t get an upgraded room (assuming there were uprades) bug they put us on a lower floor and corner room with windows on 2 dudes which was nice, particularly since the 3 elevators can get busy at peak times.

It was also directly across from the elevators, so also had noisy hallway conversations to deal with.

but at the end it was okay as the elevators were so slow and they only have 3 for a big hotel.

We paid $100 more than we usually do at a Embassy Suites due to the location,

I would think the taxes assessed should be already enough add-ons.

The charge of $15/day that can be used against the restaurant and convenience store is crazy since the prices for items in the store are greatly inflated - i.e.

After taxes, fees, etc you're looking at $400/per night

We used our points to stay here and thank goodness we did because it would have been frustrating to have paid.

Loads of parking, just annoying you pay $35 per night to park the car.

Quit using Covid as an excuse for being understaffed and cheap.

The booked the wrong day and was going to make me pay fir it.

Parking , Towels and what for 30 bucks what a rip off.

We booked a cash rate on a busy weekend for a single night stay.

even though it had a bay view, I don't recommend that others pay any extra for that.

Bar downstairs was very expensive - drinks were priced higher than expected.

but we paid over $35 per day extra for this.

I expected more for the price of the rooms.

Stayed in this out of the way, middle of nowhere , overpriced place for indoor pool and gym.

I little more attention to cleaning would go along away for the price you pay here.

Paid 1450.00 for a Friday and Saturday night stay, then if you want to park at hotel you will fork over 36 additional dollars plus tax.

Upon arrival we were assigned a room - Room 104 that had no air conditioning.

The heating and air conditioning were very slow to reach desired temperature.

We found a great rate on their 'Classic Room', (not sure we would have been able to stay otherwise) only thing was the AC wasn't working and wasn't fixed during our stay,

The next day I had to ask several times to please bring a fan instead.

Only issue we had was our thermostat was giving a code and we couldn’t get the Air Conditioner to come on.

But, rooms are small, bathroom vent didn't work, led lights flicker, hair drier cheap.

but we had to start a space heater to get warm at night.

There was no way to open the window in my room & no ac so it was extremely stuffy.

No room service, valet parking or air conditioning.

No air conditioning, and this fact is not listed on website.

Heads up though, there is no AC in the rooms.

Bathroom much too small and with no water pressure and no air circulation.

Not having air conditioning or lifts was really not a problem.

Then we get to our extremely small, extremely dated hotel room and realize - there is no a/c.

It should be noted that there is no air conditioning.

Guests should be aware that there is no AC, and the hotel is not accessible to people with disabilities.

The vent noise, along with the kitchen smells, went from 6AM to 10PM both nights we were there.

I normally would not stay at a hotel without AC

but it is the worst hotel with no air-conditioning incredibly small rooms with antiquated bathrooms that have slip and fall tubs and barely a drip of water pressure.

The complimentary breakfast is a yummy and expansive spread with a waffle and omelette station and a variety of options.

From the breakfast buffet, the comfortable seating vignettes placed throughout, the fresh fruit and beverages that were quickly replenished,  the 2-5 pm wine tasting,  to the warm fire and freshly baked cookies greeting you at night, just before going to bed, nothing was spared to give each guest an experience.

The complimentary breakfast is the best we've ever experienced, and the complimentary wine and cookies every day was a nice touch.

The gourmet mimosa breakfast is seriously one of the best I’ve had.

The breakfast included was top notch and the views at breakfast of the ocean were magnificent   We would stay here again for sure

We especially loved the included breakfast, with its vast assortment of offerings, including an omelet and waffle station and delicious pastries.

In addition to the buffet, you will find an omelette and waffle stand.

The staff could not have been more pleasant and the breakfast was unbelievable.

Food at the hotel was delicious and the whole place was very welcoming and comfortable.

La Playa has the best views, best breakfast, best WiFi, best showers, and amazing staff.

From our contact at the front desk with Kathleen who was so friendly and welcoming to Brenda our attentive and great server at breakfast everything was great.

Extra bonus such as the evening  drinks and cookies were fantastic and the daily breakfast was a standout.

Wine in the afternoon and warm cookies at night, as well as a delicious breakfast each morning make you want to move in permenantly.

We were offered sangria upon arrival, made use of the hotel shuttle into town for dinner, there were fresh baked chocolate chips cookies in the lobby from 730-9pm, and a champagne breakfast included in our stay the next morning which was excellent.

Don't sleep on the champagne breakfast -- we thought it might be a nice continental situation,

Complimentary Sangrias were a nice touch, and the breakfast was delicious.

The champagne breakfast that was included every morning was by far the best hotel breakfast we've ever had and the staff is so friendly and accomodating!

I’m not a high roller so I would try to go back on a weekday and avoid the high rates on the weekend.

For a hotel of this cost, the experience should have been much better.

but does not appear to be on top of its game…especially for the price.

Why not fully disclose the Reno and adjust the the very high 5 star prices for the inconvenience and impact on your guests?

For those who don't mind paying a premium and for those (often like us) who specifically look to pay a premium by choice-because of what that comes with.

However, the rooms are tiny, for the price they charge.

But the room experience and astronomical price left a sour taste in my mouth and it's going to be hard to recommend this to others at this point.

Very expensive for small rooms even for Carmel.

although it was expensive, considering they both comments.

But the noisy room and almost doubled price from last stay were biggest disappointment

I was told breakfast was not included in the price of the room

This is an older property and the rooms and bathrooms are a little small and dated given the price points

but living in Texas I would have never even thought to question the ac situation when you are spending $1,100/night + taxes for a hotel room.

For rates over $1000/night, I expected more.

Small rooms with no place to put my things.

The room was tiny, the sink backed up when in use, breakfast wasn't served until 7:30 and there was very loud construction noise.

Although renovated and spotlessly clean, our room this time was a bit small and on the dark side.

Room is small and the bathroom is very small and dated.

This hotel has no elevator, small rooms and tiny bathrooms.

The rooms were SO SMALL and they lacked amenities that you'd expect for a room with that price tag.

The bathroom is incorporated within the room and is a tiny cubicle, not easily accessible as the door is standing in the way.

The rooms are small and cramped with no air conditioning.

The room was very small and offered no view, no balcony, no elevator, (4th floor), and a bathroom so small that we could only open the door halfway before it was stopped by the sink.

The room is small, doesn't have A/C, and isn't very well soundproofed.

The bed was comfy and the delivered cold breakfast was fine.

Breakfast was delivered to the room and it was adequate as well as tasty.

The robes are very nice, so is the breakfast that they bring up to you.

We went to eat at the Monterey hotel for breakfast and lunch to enjoy the views and services.
