Plaster patchwork on the walls, uneven picture hanging, dust on furniture, dirty vents, broken door chain.

There are hot days, even on the coast, this hotel has no AC.

This hotel has no air conditioning and the room was so hot it was unbearable!

Plus, if you need a little more air, you can find an oscillating fan in the closet as there is no A/C.

Unit faces an old metal building, and the power lines would collapse if one more wire was hung.

I called the front desk to ask how to operate the AC and discovered the hotel doesn’t have an AC.

But next time we know to book an unit with no one above us! !

There are 2 smaller units with 2 floors that is connected to the main hotel area.

Very old fashioned and no air conditioning - a fan was provided.

A few reviewers complained about the lack of a/c.

i suggest you reconsider before booking if you're okay with a room without aircondition.

They offer a wine & cheese time in the late afternoon (tea & lemonaid for non-drinkers), and a full breakfast in the am (eggs, meat, fruit, breads, oatmeal, waffles, cereals and beverages).

The morning breakfast was well done and the afternoon wine & cheese was a super nice touch.

Afternoon wine/cheese hour (5-6pm) offers cheddar and Gouda plus crackers and Red Delicious apples (which are salty — I would change that, btw) plus a Sav Blanc and Cab Sauvignon, lemonade and iced tea. Dog-friendly!

If your visiting Cannery Row/Aquarium and Fisherman's Wharf, this is a great spot to stay without breaking the bank.

Charming hotel, reasonably price, in easy walking distance to Cannery Row and the Presidio.

I loved everything about it: location close to Cannery Row and Aquarium, cordial and welcoming staff, tasty hot breakfast, spacious room with fireplace (I was lucky to have mine on the third floor), lovely evening wine & cheese reception, good internet connection: everything was perfect!

The area is safe for walking at night, and if you have a dog, there are many locations to walk for you both to enjoy.

I took the family here for a couple of nights to visit the aquarium and Pacific Grove.

Excellent location, we walked just minutes to get to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Cannery Row shops, etc..

I love the location - just a short walk to the Monterey Bay Aquarium via Cannery Row.

And you really can't beat the location; just a few blocks from Cannery Row, tons of good restaurants, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Although it was very clearly stated on their website, we were also informed about the daily parking fee of $17 before signing and given a parking pass to display on our dashboard.

So I was not pleased with the prospect of a non refundable nights stay, pay the unjust parking fee, or have my vehicle at risk!!!!

Cons:  No microwave in room, no pool/jacuzzi, $16/day parking fee.

The only thing that bothered me was the parking fee ($16 per day).

Like many places in Monterey, there is a fee for parking, which is in a lot underneath the hotel.

Also there is a 15.00 per day parking fee that is attached on to your bill.

However, for $288 per night on the weekend, plus taxes and parking fees, it was not worth the money.

They do charge for parking in their underground garage.

(We didn't want to have to pay for parking downtown and then go pay it at hotel).

Finally, the price we booked at was $250 a night (plus parking and tax)

The staff in the lobby and dining room were very nice and accommodating.

In the center of Monterey we got a very spacious room, very clean and quiet.

I love the welcome our dog received, the clean and pleasant room, the cozy fireplace and comfortable bed.

but the accessible room worked great for us.

Love the rooms with a fireplace and the Decor is Victorian.

Balcony overlooked other rooms, an ugly courtyard, and an abandoned building across the street.

Had a ground floor room which was very convenient.

but even though checkout was 12pm they were able to sneak us into a room around 1:30pm.

The room was well-insulated so we weren't bothered by outside noises, comfortable bed and pillows, great water pressure in the shower.

The room was quiet with a fireplace, clean, warm, and the bed was amazing comfort!

Disgusting behaviour, and if guests are going to act so irresponsibly with their hairy muts then maybe it shouldn't be a dog-accepting place.

I had to ask the woman at the reception desk twice to have someone unclog the drain.

In the morning, we the towel was remove, it's like a flies trap. Grossed!!!

If you smoke, don't stay here as it's a non-smoking hotel.

The room was in need of an urgent makeover with rips to the curtains and stains on the chairs. The bed linen was cheap, thin and didn’t feel very clean (and didn’t smell newly washed!)

Front desk night management, Rufus, was nasty, rude and threatening when we asked to upgrade to a quieter, cleaner room.

Smell of ongoing painting lead to us having headaches and nausea at night.

Place needs a current day remodel- rooms smell aged - for 400 bucks you would think that it might be more than roadside motel 
HORRIBLE - NEVER TO RETURN - BEWARE

I turned it on and immediately there was a strong smell of gas.

I was worried that the older looking (but clean) carpets would harbor some "old dog smell" in them,

Hotel lobby very small, when you enter you have to look for checking desk, front desk clerk need training, Water presser in shower very very low, breakfast items were almost out by 9:20 am and is not up to best western standard, room carpet was filthy.

HOWEVER, the smell of cigarette smoke every night was not cool.

They use some sort of perfumed cleaning product which burned my eyes.

We walked in and the smell of urine just hit you.

The only thing I noticed about the hotel is that it had an odor  of  being musty (older dusty smelling furnitutre) -mostly out in the hallways not so much in the guest rooms.

The hosts are very friendly and supportive

but the staff we quick to replenish food and clear away.

All of the staff were very courteous and very accommodating.

In fact the staff at every point was friendly and helpful, very professional.

They were so nice and obliging I promised to come back in happier times.

I would stay there again without hesitation as it’s a nice establishment with friendly and attentive staff

The daily breakfast and wine and cheese in the evening that were included were wonderful.

Wine and cheese was served at 4pm in the dining room which was a nice touch.

We informed the hotel of our anniversary trip details and were greeted with wine and chocolates and a lovely note of congratulations in our room.

They also had wine time with free wine and cheese and other goodies

The wine and cheese hour was also nice and catered to non drinkers as well (like our kids).

It was so awesome to be able to sit in comfortable chairs, sip wine, and enjoy a glowing fireplace.

The evening wine and cheese was fine, wine was quite palatable and I am pretty picky.

Wine and cheese hour from 5 - 6 pm the night we arrived was a great plus!

She ushered us into the breakfast area where they were having wine, cheese and crackers.

Upon arrival we were assigned a room - Room 104 that had no air conditioning.

The heating and air conditioning were very slow to reach desired temperature.

We found a great rate on their 'Classic Room', (not sure we would have been able to stay otherwise) only thing was the AC wasn't working and wasn't fixed during our stay,

The next day I had to ask several times to please bring a fan instead.

Only issue we had was our thermostat was giving a code and we couldn’t get the Air Conditioner to come on.

But, rooms are small, bathroom vent didn't work, led lights flicker, hair drier cheap.

but we had to start a space heater to get warm at night.

There was no way to open the window in my room & no ac so it was extremely stuffy.

No room service, valet parking or air conditioning.

No air conditioning, and this fact is not listed on website.

Heads up though, there is no AC in the rooms.

Bathroom much too small and with no water pressure and no air circulation.

Not having air conditioning or lifts was really not a problem.

Then we get to our extremely small, extremely dated hotel room and realize - there is no a/c.

It should be noted that there is no air conditioning.

Guests should be aware that there is no AC, and the hotel is not accessible to people with disabilities.

The vent noise, along with the kitchen smells, went from 6AM to 10PM both nights we were there.

I normally would not stay at a hotel without AC

but it is the worst hotel with no air-conditioning incredibly small rooms with antiquated bathrooms that have slip and fall tubs and barely a drip of water pressure.

A stone’s throw to both the beach and downtown Carmel so the location is amazing.

Over all I had a great time relaxed great location with little walking distance to the ocean and stores.

We were able to walk to the beach and they even had a dining shuttle that took us into town and back for dinner each night.

The location is perfect, close to the beach, an easy walk to shops, and a shuttle for dinner reservations.

The location is steps from the prettiest beach with tons of frolicking dogs and that always makes me smile.

Wonderful small luxury hotel in Carmel within walking distance to the beach and town.

We were initially excited about the location being close to the Carmel beach.

The hotel is "vintage" Carmel - easy access to long walks on the beach at sunrise and sunset and close to town - water views and a great bar restaurant make La Playa a fun place to stay.

The grounds are lovely, we enjoyed the pool, and how close you are to the beach.

While most of the Inns offer breakfast, charm and cozy bed, La Playa is closest to the ocean while still just a short walk to town.

The hotel is a short walk to the beach and has a walking path along the water with beautiful homes overlooking the ocean.

Plus the short walk to the beach and downtown Carmel can't be beat.

Location is two blocks from the beach and an easy walk.

Hotel location is great, very close walking distance to the beach and to town while still being enough distance away to have the quietness of the neighborhood.

Venture just a few steps beyond the property, and find yourself on the white sand beach in less than 2 minutes.

Short walk to the beach and the main streets of Carmel Village.

The complimentary breakfast is a yummy and expansive spread with a waffle and omelette station and a variety of options.

From the breakfast buffet, the comfortable seating vignettes placed throughout, the fresh fruit and beverages that were quickly replenished,  the 2-5 pm wine tasting,  to the warm fire and freshly baked cookies greeting you at night, just before going to bed, nothing was spared to give each guest an experience.

The complimentary breakfast is the best we've ever experienced, and the complimentary wine and cookies every day was a nice touch.

The gourmet mimosa breakfast is seriously one of the best I’ve had.

The breakfast included was top notch and the views at breakfast of the ocean were magnificent   We would stay here again for sure

We especially loved the included breakfast, with its vast assortment of offerings, including an omelet and waffle station and delicious pastries.

In addition to the buffet, you will find an omelette and waffle stand.

The staff could not have been more pleasant and the breakfast was unbelievable.

Food at the hotel was delicious and the whole place was very welcoming and comfortable.

La Playa has the best views, best breakfast, best WiFi, best showers, and amazing staff.

From our contact at the front desk with Kathleen who was so friendly and welcoming to Brenda our attentive and great server at breakfast everything was great.

Extra bonus such as the evening  drinks and cookies were fantastic and the daily breakfast was a standout.
