Breakfast was a grim, school dinners-type affair that I would ideally soon forget.

however the breakfast buffet we feel much better.

Breakfast and dinner quality is good and variety of choice.

Also, the price include morning and nigh buffet which is excellent.

The breakfast and dinners were great; they had a fair variety of Western and Japanese items,

but this one was delicious and catered for a variety of tastes.

The buffet was loveless and within a few minutes it looked like on the battlefield.

It also seemed to give us Priority seating at the busier 2 buffet restaurants (seeds and Caeda palace).

Although the path is always long if you want to go somewhere, it winds through restaurants, bars, video game center, local specialties shopping area, bowling alley, outdoor lighting show, swimming pools. etc.

There was a bowling alley and a Game Center in the hotel!

Lots of recreational activity like video game centre, bowling, swimming pool and shopping areas.

The building(s) are massive and has a bowling alley, arcade, shopping centre, onsen and outdoor heated swimming pool.

Great view from Spa center to downtown and to ocean.

One thing bothers me a lot is their massive consumption of plastic bags handed to the guests at the hot spring bathI handed out to the guests to carry slippers in the bathroom.

Stayed one night in early Sept., feel really disappointed for the guest room which we stayed in the main building.

Large multi-building hotel crowded with many guests - I prefer smaller less busy hotels.

We only heard a little noise from the corridor in the morning otherwise we were not disturbed by other guests.

Provided hotspring baths are opened for outside people, not just for hotel guests.

Although we weren't hotel guests we went there and paid for the buffet and entrance to Aqua Garden and Tanayu.

I requested a Japanese/Western mountain side non-smoking room and received a Japanese/Western ocean side room with a prior guest who was a HEAVY smoker.

There is no wifi in the rooms except the lobby, that's the only inconvenience.

It was a little worn out when compared with the other building (Hana-kan) where we found the lobby and rooms were more modernised.

You have to go in the lobby to get some wifi.

I'm not sure why there is plastic with some kind of little rocks, balls, pebbles, whatever they are in a pillow.

The way you have to change your shoes in one area, then change your slippers in another (keeping them in a plastic bag), all was a bit confusing and strange.

but there are many shuttle buses you can get to the parking of the hotel and JR station.

There's also a very handy shuttle bus service running from Beppu Station to the hotel, so its location at the top of the hill posed no issue.

You have shuttle bus from Beppu station every 30 minutes.

There are shuttle service to and from JR Beppu station from 8:30 to 22:00.

There was free shuttle bus (every 15 minutes) to and from Beppu Station hence it was convenient.

Amazing view from the top of the mountain,  free shuttle from the main station and a big Onsen.

They also have a shuttle from Beppu station which makes it really convenient.

Please keep them in the locker at the station.

It took about 10-15 minutes from the station to the hotel.

Then, when you see a blue gasoline station, you almost arrive the lane going up to the hotel.

I also took the shuttle down to the JR station as there is a small mall there with great shops.

Walk out of the station towards the mountain and turn to your left.

Stay for one night in February 2013

Suginoi Hotel is huge complex hotel about 10 mins from JR Beppu Station.

The hotel is quite far from the Beppu station,

We ate at the station japanese restaurant one night and it was great food and cheap too.

The shuttle will also take you back to the station.

There is a bus from station to hotel so getting around isn't a problem,

I felt like going to a crowded town rather than enjoying hot spring In Beppu.

The Suginoi is perched on the side of a hill on the southern side of Beppu, and our room had excellent views of the town and the thousands of thermal steam vents for which it is known.

In the morning you can see the steam rising from all of the vents in town.

- The lowest floor where there is a bed bath was too hot for me

While in Northern Kyushu, my wife and I naturally gravitated towards the onsen town of Beppu.

The parking is free too if you are driving.

Clean room with free parking is much to our convenience.

Parking is free and convenient (no mechanical car park here).

Take time and try some of the Japanese foods such as chicken tempura or tofu with toppings, well stocked, generous, free parking.

Also, the free parking in this location is a plus.

There is free wifi which works quite well.

No free coffee and soft drinks like in other hotels I reviewed, such as Tokyu Rei in Hiroshima and Hotel 123 in Kobe.

You have a free hot spring on the second floor, and laundry machines on the 6th.

The bed was comfortable and the workspace and free wi-fi in the room allowed me to get a lot of work done.

There is a Starbucks opposite the hotel, and plenty of eating places.

It's less than a 10 minute walk to Beppu station and there is a big Yakiniku BBQ place next door, as well as a Starbucks and other bars and restaurants in the immediate vicinity.

Plenty of bars and restaurants around the area and staff are happy to help you plan out what to do and give out their personal recommendations.

The hotel is near restaurants and opposite one the main department stores.

The breakfast was good, all the Japanese type of breakfast you could ask for, grilled salmon, rice, miso soup, congee, several types of coffee, scrambled eggs, Japanese omelets’, sausages….you get the drift.

Lots of restaurants around that there is a shopping mall 5-10 mins walk from the hotel.

The food was ok, and i loved the toriten and eggs.

However Beppu had our favourite restaurant of the 3 weeks.

Also a must try popular tempura restaurant is round the corner and definitely worth a visit (Toyotsune).

The inn is located at the onsen area which can be reached by foot 10min from the JR Beppu station.

But if looking for shopping and bustling crowds the nearest will be at Beppu Station where you can shop for groceries and cooked food.

Hotel is quite a long walk away - about 10-15 mins walk from station.

From the Station, take the east exit and just go straight till you reach the main intersection.

This hotel is easy to find (out of the station and walk towards the beach, under the underpass at the main highway and you're there).

Once u get out the main exit of the Beppu station, just follow the main road n walk about 12 minutes until u reach a really big cross road junction.

Also the TV was absolutely of the right proportions in comparison with the room, which, in many hotels, is not the case.

The only thing that irritated me was every time I entered the room, I had to put my key card into the slot by the door, which automatically turned the TV and phone on.

The tops of the furniture on the TV was dusty.

Our room rate included dinner as well as breakfast.

but the Chef’s idea of Western Breakfast was also interesting.

the breakfast was very good, I had Japanese breakfast, large portion with very good taste.

For breakfast, I had Japanese dishes while my wife and son had western dishes.

Dinner was good local seafood and included breakfast was exceptional!

The food were tasty and delicious, in particular the wagyu beef and grilled assorted fishes. Yummy!

If you are vegetarian, you should let them know in advance and they can arrange vegetarian breakfast.

Two meals are included, dinner which was very good, a nine course meals while breakfast we took was western type.

The dinner & breakfast course here was the best in our Kyushu trip.

The meals were top standard fresh ingredients.

They prepared us temporary sleeping places and other necessities and simple breakfast the next day.

The food was beautifully presented in the typical Japanese kaiseki style, and it was delicious.

Very satisfied with the stay experience , courteous staff , beautiful environment, clean and comfortable room (my room is type J), beautiful sea views , the hotel attached parking , breakfast and dinner taste good , would stay again.

Cleanliness can be improved as many areas left unclean as you touch the surface evident of very basic light cleaning non typical of most high end hot spring hotels.

We took the 9am slot and by 9.30am, they started clearing and cleaning the table and we felt like we were being hurried.

Slight complaints would be they should do better job on the vacuuming the room as I was able to feel the dust in the room (I am asthmatic),

We were also given a lot of incorrect info at the start by staff who did not communicate well in Japanese, so we missed out on some key experiences.

Overall, the sea view is good and the service is good especially one of the male staffs explained info of the hotel clearly and very helpful enough,

Also at Beppu station the tourist info are very helpful and they told us not to bother getting a taxi to the hotel and it worked out fine.

The staff was very helpful and gave all the information you needed.

It takes about 10 mins drive from Beppu station to hotel, and not much places to visit around the hotel.

Bell-boys took our luggages on our approach from the Beppu University station(10 min walk).Was served nice refreshing cold tea while we were seated and the check-in was completed.Front desk recommended a taxi driver for our 3-hour tour of  all 7 "Hells" of hot springs and geyser in various colours.

Transportation
We took no.26 bus from Beppu Station straight to the hotel without any fuss.

The hotel is located near to Beppudaiguku station, one stop away from Beppu station.

It is approx 10 mins from the station by taxi, not in a walking distance unless you have plenty of time.

Thought as mentioned by other reviewer, JR station Beppudaigaku is not too far from the hotel (though it is not exactly very close by either).

Nearest JR Station, Beppudaigaku which is about 5-10mins walk away from Seikai.

An easy 10 min walk from the Beppudaigaku JR station and on several city bus routes makes it not so isolated from the heart of Beppu.

We got the train from the main station then walked along to the hotel,

Its highly recommended to rent a car, its about 10 mins drive from Beppu JR station.

however, we found a lot of deficits as follows:

1) the indoor slippers are smelly and not hygiene enough, felt itchy and had rashes on feet after wore, hopefully not serious feet diseases, so our suggestion is to make sure the indoor slippers are well sterilised before the next customers use them.

The wall facing the ocean was all glass with a glass door that opened onto an outdoor deck with table and chairs.

but each table separated by high "paper" walls which adds privacy, dinner was japanese whilst you can select japanese or western for breakfast - both meals are yummy! !

And there is only one staff serving us, 11 people, which means a staff keep rushing around busily, this is not very comfortable.

Since our Japanese skill was limited, we asked our waitress if she could kindly explain the menu to us.

Despite there is a new reservation page in English on its website, it has limited dinner choice.

While the website is all in Japanese we booked over the phone and they have someone who can speak English to take your booking.

We booked with breakfast (option for international buffet or Japanese) and both were very good.

we like their breakfast spread, which let us try some of Beppu's local food, such as steamed mushroom/sweet potato, tempura chicken.

Now, about the food, they offer a 20% discount on their buffet restaurant.

buffet breakfast is average with reasonable selection.

We have also tried the breakfast buffet, the food tasted good and yummy, so we would surely come again if we travel to Beppu again.

We dined at the Italian restaurant on the ground floor which was delicious, 2 courses pasta and a pizza, there was also a buffet if you preferred.

 I will choose other lower category business hotel even their guestroom is small overall experience should be better. 客室のベッドルームは改装してあるけど、浴室は昔のままで、カビやバスタブの湯垢の汚れが目立っており、歯磨きするために入るのも不快でした。温泉大浴場も、頻繁に清掃してはいましたが、そもそも古く快適とは言い難く。次からは部屋が狭いのを我慢してでも、ビジネスホテルのほうがましと思いました。
朝食のレストランの内装はキレイになっていますが、目玉の地獄蒸しの豚バラは半分脂身、他の食材もあまり品質が良いものではないように感じました。コーヒーの味はコンビニの100円コーヒーのほうが間違いなく美味しいというレベルです。
スタッフの方々はフロントもレストランも全体的に対応は良かったです。
