It is about a 10 minute walk from Sto Domingo Church or a slow paced 20 minute walk to the zocalo and the markets.

though I have had better (they are a bit slow refilling the hot food when it's gone and it goes cold very quickly).

The only drawback was the elevator - there is only one and it was crazy slow and even a couple of times not working at all!

The only thing that would been an improvement would have been a small refrigerator.

The only thing we would have liked was the use of a small fridge.

Only very small complaint is the absence of mini-bar, or at least a small fridge.

The cleaning staff is nice and you can ask them at specific times to clean your room.

Reception staff are amazing too - so helpful.

What a beautiful hotel in the center of Oaxaca.

You are just steps away from the center of the city.

For being in the city center I found it very quiet.

A great place to stay if you want a hotel in the centre of the city, one block from the zocalo.

This hotel is well situated in the city center.

Fantastic location right in the centre of town and easy walking distance to main buildings of interest including churches and museums as well as some very good restaurants.

- close to the city center and Cathedral - lot of restaurants, bistros, shops, small nice boutiques near by.

It is a stones throw from the Cathedral in the centre of Oaxaca and therefore close to lots of restaurants and bars.

This hotel is virtually in the centre of Oaxaca.

Most other hotels we visited have a large center courtyard,

The hotel is in a courtyard building with the centre open to the sunshine, if there is any.

Easy walking distance to anything you would want to see as part of the historic center city area.

Walking around is the best way to see the little nooks and crannies of the Oaxacan center.

Excellent location, just a block from the zocalo (old town center, where spontaneous celebrations seem to break out hourly and a noisy friendly gathering place for families, townsfolk, musicians, and vendors).

Staff were all really excellent, nice terraces to relax on, and it is right in the centre close to everything.

This hotel is an excellent base for exploring the historical center of Oaxaca.

The location is beyond perfect for accessing the center of town and the on premise restaurant is nice if not as fantastic as other, nearby, places (go to Catedral for breakfast, you won't be disappointed).

It is a lot more expensive than other tours U find in the center.

The only gripe was that our room with 2 large beds had 'window' looking out onto the corridor so was very dark.

Standard rooms are quite cramped and can also be dark.

Rooms are small, stuffed with dark wood and wrought iron furniture, small art hangs in a random fashion, tiles are clean

but rather dark because the only window, opening on to the courtyard, had frosted glass.

The rooms we stayed in were also rather dark, the suite being worse, Furthermore, with the suite the bathroom window faced the opp.

The rooms were OK; our first room had a window into the dark hallway, so the room was dark.

but dark room brightened by plentiful lighting.

also too much light came inside the room as the courtains were not dark enough

no minibar at the rooms.

Deltas: some of the rooms at the back of te hotel are pretty dark, no natural light reaches them, noise travels very well from common areas tonall rooms, so if u get a loud group of people arriving late and drunk, you are in for a unpleasent night, there is no parking for the hotel, so u have to part with US$20 per day to park about 2 blocks away.

but the hallway itself is very dark and cold.

Also, the door to the room had a large pane of frosted glass, which was impossible to cover so the room was not completely dark.

The decor, furniture, and vibe are so charming.

The hotel was meticulously cleaned every day, down to the last architectural curlicue.

We had a room on the first floor in the back of the hotel, which helped create a quieter atmosphere.

It is very clean, charming, rustic and culturally decorated.

The rooms, patio and restaurant are very tastefully decorated.

but is also such a haven of peace once inside, with nice decorations, a library, comfortable places to sit and relax.

This location looks very much like how do even imagine old Mexico beautiful Oaxaca Art  making the property cozy and beautiful .

Our colorful room has AC and a whirlpool.

However, it's the ambiance of the place that made my experience memorable.

It’s beautifully decorated and I felt the culture of Oaxaca throughout.

Many beautiful tipical, well chose mexican decor details embellish the establishment.

The room was nicely decorated and very clean, had a very good bed

It is outdated (although in very good condition - it's more an aesthetic comment).

The location couldn't be beat and you can be in the middle of the action and within walking distance of most sights, or enjoy the courtyard ambience and a delicious coffee at the hotel.

The parador has classic Mexican decoration and furnishings and the atmosphere is warm and friendly throughout.

With colour, good vibes, and fantasticly convenient location, we felt ever so comfortable, safe and at home during our 8 night stay.

The service was again excellent, the rooms first class and quiet, and the atmosphere carefully decorated Oaxacan.

The breakfast was good and the overall decor of the hotel is nice.

We stayed there 2 nights, and, unfortunately, the second one was a sleepless one – across the road, there was a concert in a bar, and the music was so loud we initially thought they were singing in the lobby of the hotel.

But if it bothers you to see caged wild birds (as it did our party), that will be a downside.

The only thing I was unhappy about is that one weekend night the music from the discotec next door woke me with very loud music.

Air-conditioner worked well and wasn't too loud.

Every night ,the people checking in were loud  and very noisy ,which echoed throughout the building.

that is to say extremely loud and our double room was as close to it as one could get.

Only drawback that you should consider when choosing a location in Oaxaca's center, as this one, is that it can get loud at night, if you're looking for relaxation and you're sensitive to noise just be aware about it.

however need acoustic isolation because the noise from the street is too loud some times.

Being so close to the zocalo, the rooms on the street side might be loud

but there were very few guests, and with all the open areas and hard tile / plaster surfaces, it could get loud quickly.

The only downsides were that there was a rowdy group also staying there at the same time and there is virtually no insulation from interior building noise.

Dislikes -
It's LOUD  if you are not in your room you hear everything from the streets.

An example of the service:  one evening there was a private party in the restaurant and we had to take dinner (we only wanted a sandwich) on a very comfortable sofa in the courtyard.

however it is a courtyard so all noises are amplified so if you're a light sleeper you may need ear plugs as you will hear every door shut and echoed laugh.

So, if you do not like to wake early, you MUST wear ear plugs.

No complaints except that plugs are not supplied for plug holes - advice: use the circular plastic mats on which tumblers are placed in the bathroom.

Admittedly, when I called down to the front desk, a very nice about bringing me a pair of ear plugs.

For improvement at the hotel, they might consider putting ear plugs in the room -- if nothing can be done about the noise.

but its just due warning if choosing this place, which we would again but bring ear plugs.

There plentiful outlets in the room to recharge all our electronics, and used American style plugs.

Be sure and ask for a room with a window because some of the rooms do not have one.

There are no exterior windows in the rooms as this is a converted traditional Oaxacan house.

There was one window in our room which opened into an interior courtyard.

We switched to another room that had a window with light and it was better,

The one window in the room looked out on a covered courtyard-like setting which was noise-free.

The only possible negative aspect is that some of the rooms windows face the interior corridor which some people might not like.

We were greeted by the staff in a very warm and welcoming way.

Great downtown location just one block from the main plaza, great breakfast, beds were amazing, on site tours were there,  and great nightly dinner specials that included drinks soup main meal with dessert.

A trip to Monte Alban was just a short distance either by taxi or by a private tour guide which was excellent.

To coincide with the end of two years of studying - and to celebrate my husband’s birthday- we searched hard for a tour that would enable us to visit Oaxaca for the Day of the Dead celebrations.

They were very eager to help with a car seat, storing our stroller so we didn't have to take it upstairs and getting tours scheduled for us.

We took a tour to Monte Alban with the suggested tour group and it was very good.

We find this preferable to the group tours as it is quicker and you set the time and places to visit.

though compared to the rest of the hotels in our package.I am guessing our tour organiser either booked late or cheap.

Staff was wonderfully welcoming and helped us with reservations, terrific tour guides and anything else we needed.

The staff also arranged for two tours and recommended a cooking class that we really enjoyed.

The private tour with Antonio was very informative and “Tonio” speaks perfect English.The restaurant associated with the hotel is very good as well.

Excellent front desk helps arrange affordable tours to Monte Alban.

We started to notice on our Mexico tour (where hotels were booked for us) that the buildings and staff in general are really lovely.

They offer tours for a very reasonable price.

The front desk was always helpful finding tour services and local destinations.

The side trip to Monte Alban (Zapotec ruins) not to be missed—but a halfday tour is perfectly adequate.

This hotel had been booked for us by Llama Travel as part of our tour of archaeological sites in Mexico.

The bathrooms are so dated and the furniture just is not comfortable.

though I would look into whether other rooms had better bathrooms.

although not worth it, go for a master class suite for more space and lighting and ask for a remodeled bathroom, otherwise is like staying in a 100 yr old building with no luxury…

After showering, the steam goes into the room and it gets stuffy.

However, we are totally not recommended this hotel because we faced misleading and misbehaving by the hotel and the reception staff - as following:
We booked in Booking.com a King Suit room and we got: a tiny room fare from the expectation of 5* hotel, one of the beds side with no dresser by the bed, no real wardrobe, bathroom with one sink instead of two as booked,  and no place our languages – put them under the table and under the sink (see my attached photos).

although bathrooms much smaller and could be modernised for full effect - power sowers would be nice .

Outrageously expensive and yet tiny rooms, miniscule bathrooms, dated furniture.

The bathroom, while small, is perfectly appropriate for this property.

The bathrooms are so small the sink isn't even in it!

The rooms are rather old and out of date and so are the bathrooms

It is a shame that little has been done to upgrade the rooms in the Oaxaca property, especially the bathrooms.

The bathroom in the Quinta Real was particularly small (really disappointing for an expensive hotel).

but bathroom was small and dated, especially the shower/tub.

The bathroom was a little in need of refreshing,

the shower didn't take an hour to heat up and the toilet flushed when requested.

I am OK with very small room,poor bathtub and shower,

The bathroom was shocking and the room was stuffy, smelly, and dim.

The bathrooms are quite old and shabby so this hotel doesn’t deserve the stars that it rates itself!

As one of the reviewers within this stream of reviews indicated, it is an historic hotel; hence some of its amenities were not on par with the price tag I paid per night.

The staff was very friendly, helpful and top notch.

All the staff was extremely friendly and helpful; from booking hard-to-reserve restaurants, transportation to/from airport to our COVID tests to go back to the US, our concierge Farith was excellent!
