The rooms are spotless, many have their own balconies that look out over a swimming pool, and it is just a few minutes walk from all the major activities.

Our room was spotless as were all areas of the casa, including the pool area, shaded by an impressively large lime tree and a mature fig tree frequented by small brightly colored birds.

The inn is beautifully furnished with rooms that are immaculate and comfortable.

but not much cross ventilation, typically just one window per room (and no A/C, but that's usually okay in this climate).

but there's little ventilation in the rooms that are in the main house and so even opening all doors and windows and turning the fan on is ineffective in getting the air moving.

Only two  objections: our bathroom was too small and the Internet service was poor.

We stayed in Girasoles suite, while it was beautifully furnished and maintained by housekeeping, it was a little noisy from the restaurant next door and had a very small bathroom.

The following night at 10:00 pm another call, they ask for me with my last name or a very similar name of my wife

My wife had made a telephone reservation on Jan 9 and cancelled within the hour on the phone since I was making a reservations for 12 nights on line.

After giving our payment details over the phone (after a lengthy conversation about the suite itself), the woman making the booking announces that we have booked a standard room. No!

From the room we could see Guelaguetza (the outdoor amphitheater) up in the surrounding hills and hear the church bells that were ringing throughout the city.

The room was clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful.

The room was clean, the water was hot, and the air conditioning worked.

I tried to cancel a reservation 29 days out and they wanted 30 days notice.

When you book, understand that some rooms do not come with air conditioning, others do.

Full payment was required when we made the reservation four months ahead of time.

We had one last night in Oaxaca and booked a room at this hotel.

My last room (I had to move because the twin-bed room was booked on my last night) was next to the main route of travel on the second courtyard; the room was nice and bigger than the first one

Some of the rooms may have front or rear courtyards so you need to inquire when making a reservation.

But on closer inspection, our room rate was also increased from that quoted on our internet confirmation.

If you book ahead you could ask for a room in one courtyard B or C to avoid the street noise.

And there were no problems at all with the reservations at Las Gollondrinas.

We tried to sort it out, and I re-sent them the confirmations I had sent.

This is my fourth trip to Oaxaca and I finally got into Las Golondrinas, because in the past it had always been booked when I tried to get in there.

For our last night (there was some confusion over reservations, so we had to leave a day earlier than we intended), we stayed in a room off the second courtyard with queen size bed.

5 days later I still had not had a response and so telephoned again and managed to make a booking.

but they accept cash only (US or pecos) except for the 1st nights deposit required to hold the reservation.

We had him for just 2 days 9-5, and wished we had booked him for more.

We did, indeed, find that all beds in Mexico are hard mattresses (unless you book a hotel that was created specifically for citizens of the USA!).

At the suggestion of another reviewer we booked a king-bed room ($55) which meant we had a comfortable sitting area and spacious bathroom - toilet in one room, shower in the other.

Las Golondrinas is a lovely hotel in Oaxaca with clean rooms set around courtyards of lush gardens.

(c) Note there was no television in the room.

For one thing, the bathroom windows were very high and not screened.

However, those staying at Las Golondrians should know what to expect: no TV, phone, or clock in the room, and limited number of electrical outlets.

but basic - no AC, no TV, no phone (I think), so bear that in mind.

but no TV (wireless Internet is included in the price).

The rooms are basic: no TV and a rattling old fan.

This is however not your traditional hotel, in the sense that there's no TV, phone, a/c in the room,

The rooms are spotless, with lovely Oaxacan decor in bright colours.

The location was impeccable, walking distance to the Zocalo, public markets, and Santo Domingo with all of its surrounding boutiques, a great little room which was clean and neat as a pin, as were the grounds of the establishment.

Although the place is not too much interesting, it is well located, has comfortable clean rooms which have plenty of space for such a budget hotel.

Rooms are very  clean, plenty of hot water, and staff is great.

Room was very clean and potable water was plentiful in the rooftop kitchen.

The rooms are clean and comfortable and the downstairs open patio is delightful.

Main floor room was clean and comfortable, albeit some traffic noise the first night that was subsequently masked by a white noise fan.

I particularly, can sleep through anything so for me, it's not a concern at all.

or cars - late into the night and early in the morning - close by - made it more difficult to sleep.

however I didn't find the noise a problem and I slept very well in both rooms.

No need for alarm clock, it will be impossible to sleep once that light is shinning directly on your eyes.

Unfortunately, the actual hotel experience itself (that is, the comfort and quality of the room, bed, and subsequent sleep) was sub-standard for this price point.

Noise of people on terrace or in courtyard talking would be a problem if you want to go to bed early or sleep in.

but it was still a little hard to sleep, especially because if you kept your window open it was literally at sidewalk level.

If I were a guest trying to sleep, I would have appreciated it!

Our Motto is who needs a big huge room to only sleep in.

Noisy in the early morning if you're a traveler who likes to sleep in.

We woke up very early in the day to the shrill conversation of a Portuguese woman on the courtyard on her Skype account.

A couple almost got divorced when the wife couldn't sleep for three days.

.we just couldn't sleep at all the four nights we were there.

However note that these rooms have no air conditioning, beds are small with old memory foam tops, 1 of the rooms we stayed had no TV, and the rooms are very small.

Rooms are small and the beds are short doubles, a bit small for two gringos.

though the rooms are small, you have access to a wonderful patio 24/7 that overlooks the Oaxaca Valley.

The price you pay to stay in an historic house is a small room with a window onto the courtyard.

Since it is an older building, the rooms are on the small side and some of them do not have outside windows, just skylights and vents in the ceilng to circulate air.

Some rooms are better than others (some have no windows)

The room was also unbearably hot, and we couldn't open the window because loads of pollen came into the room and we couldn't stop sneezing.

Beware, people can see you in your room if the wind blows the curtains.

but are not very spacious, some have windows to the street (1, 7, 8) others open to the courtyard and some have no opening windows.

Some have windows on the interior courtyard, some have windows to the street.

Although the rooms are a little smaller and darker than I'd like, it's because the hotel is an old mansion, and they've upgraded plumbing, paint, windows and flooring to be quite lovely and comfortable.

i did peek in the other rooms, and it was a bit odd to have no window, they all felt light because of the skylight.

but this room didn't even have a small window on the the courtyard.

although it is smaller than the others it has a sunny window on the quiet street side.

There was one window in our room that opened up to the courtyard. If the window was closed, there was no air circulation and the room was always warm and rather dark (there was a fan in the room which we did use.)

We read the other reviews which complain about issues with road noise - we had the road side room and it was very quiet - we can only presume other guests couldn't figure out to close the window?

In this country screens on windows are a luxury or simply viewed as not necessary given other priorities.
