Oaxaca Ollin operates more like a small boutique hotel than a bed and breakfast.

The only situation I could count as a 'problem' was that there was construction on the street outside our window that continued until 10:00 pm on two different occasions.

-Rooms are sunny: the drapes are very light and thin so do not expect a dark room.

The room contained a window and a ceiling fan for those warm days (which was only in the afternoon)

but not much cross ventilation, typically just one window per room (and no A/C, but that's usually okay in this climate).

but there's little ventilation in the rooms that are in the main house and so even opening all doors and windows and turning the fan on is ineffective in getting the air moving.

Holiday Inn is a very nice hotel, great breakfast and their staff as the cleaning crew and the front desk staff are the best!

The breakfast was excellent and the menu was a little different every day.

The linens were great, as were the rest of the rooms. We enjoyed our complimentary morning breakfast, the taxis who were always waiting for us outside, a nearby restaurant, (exit right, right at the first block, walk down a bit and it's on your left.)

I am writing this by the pool after having a delicious breakfast.

The incredible complimentary breakfast buffet includes scrambled eggs, a vegetable and meat dish, bacon, sausages, chips, cheeses, yogurt, tortillas, and a variety of cereals, fresh fruits, and hot and cold beverages.

Breakfast was good with plenty of choices.

It's always clean, the staff is friendly, and the breakfast is good.

The breakfast was excellent and was such a welcome change in terms of the quality of ingredients served at other US hotels (including Holiday Inns).

Nice location, nice breakfast, clean, well maintained, The reception staff is not particularly friendly, just barely ok, not showing any of the Mexican manners and grace for which the country is famous, not a sign of even simple friendliness.

Breakfast is very nicely done with covid in mind not stopping the guests enjoying food choices and efficient service.

Luckily there’s a a very nice restaurant nearby and that’s where I went for breakfast.

The following night at 10:00 pm another call, they ask for me with my last name or a very similar name of my wife

My wife had made a telephone reservation on Jan 9 and cancelled within the hour on the phone since I was making a reservations for 12 nights on line.

After giving our payment details over the phone (after a lengthy conversation about the suite itself), the woman making the booking announces that we have booked a standard room. No!

From the room we could see Guelaguetza (the outdoor amphitheater) up in the surrounding hills and hear the church bells that were ringing throughout the city.

The gym is small and has few machines to work out.

The hotel conforms to an American style, AC, first floor pool, small gym, carpeted halls, and so on.

Hotel Gym is tiny and offers a few aerobic options .

The sink had no hot water and the shower was not great.

Inconveniences:   
- Not much water pressure in the shower
- As the rooms (that are not sound proof) face the inner courtyard where the breakfast is taken, it could be noisy and difficult to stay asleep after 8.

And after a previous stay at another establishment lacking water pressure, the shower was much appreciated!

The water pressure was extremely low and the hot water was very slow in arriving and never really got beyond warm.

The water pressure was very light, plus the shower head was mounted quite high on a pole so by the time the water reached me it was quite spread out and hard to rinse, especially hair.

One tip if you are in the 'Sol' room is that the hot water for the shower needs to be run for about five minutes before it goes hot.

The breakfast table was delightful with different Mexican specialities every morning and lovely tableware.

We enjoyed the breakfasts in the courtyard every morning.

Breakfast is amazing , the place is charming  and the staff really makes an effort to help.

The breakfasts were something to look forward too.

My best description would be that it is a small, intimate B+B with delicious breakfasts and wonderful, friendly staff who speak English well.

The guests were all friendly and interesting and walking out to a delicious breakfast (with fresh fruit and juice) every morning was a real treat.

Having these wonderful family-type breakfast mornings was one of the things you'll definitely enjoy the most, also it is such a quiet place with a smiling staff willing to help out and also being relaxed enough to trust you with getting your own beers from the fridge etc was exactly what I needed to experience Oaxaca on a another level!

The breakfast was nice and it was lovely sharing a table with strangers that you can get to know over a meal.

Libres was just the right size to provide great amenities such as the wonderful breakfasts, excellent assistance and guidance from knowledgeable staff, and all the comforts of an inn, while feeling so comfortable, quiet, and intimate.

The communal breakfast was absolutely delicious, and a great way to meet fellow travelers, and the honesty bar was a nice touch.

Enjoyed the service and the delicious breakfast every morning before exploring the city.

And their breakfasts were wonderful as well!

We loved everything about our stay at El Diablo y la Sandía: meeting other travelers over delicious breakfasts in the courtyard, sitting on the terrace with a book and a glass of house mezcal watching a thunderstorm roll in, and especially the hospitality of everyone who works there.

The hotel itself was just what we wanted - a spacious room with a huge bed, lovely traditional decorations and tasty, simple communal breakfasts where we got to meet fellow holiday-makers and share tips and ideas for things to do in the city.

They served a tamale at breakfast one day that I'm still thinking about.

This is a house turn hotel, with breakfast served at a central patio, where you join other guests, food delicious, the rooms are simple

Breakfast in the morning was great - sitting with other travelers was a great way to start the day.

I know that wasn't the hotel's fault, so I cannot blame them at all,

Don't be stupid like us and go to the wrong hotel when you fly in!

However, we found the room to be very hot at night - the ceiling fan doesn't make much impact - whilst opening the windows at night leaves open the threat of mosquitoes.

I realize that this is not the B&Bs fault in any way (although I suppose they could install sound-proof glass),

The only challenge was the outside noise from the street.

Also there was a lot of noise from the street.

The room off the courtyard (Corazon) could be quite noisy, both from street noise as well as noise in the courtyard area when other guests were coming/going or hanging out.

The street is indeed noisy, even by Oaxaca standards.

but there was still a good amount of noise from the street.

You do hear street noise - usually it's the "whoosh" of cars in the background.

My only complaint was with the noise from the street.

The only thing that could have made it a 5star is if it were a little closer to the centre, and a little quieter (street traffic was loud).

And the "Luna" bedroom receives more noise from the street than the other bedrooms since it's the only one located on the second floor and the door opens towards the terrace, which is an open space,

With the windows open for circulation, and our location close to the center of the city, we sometimes had to bring out the earplugs.

Of the three we prefered El Catrin as it had two windows in it whereas La Sirena only had one and El Corazón only had a very small window.

We were the only guests and stayed in room Corazon, which surprisingly is the only room without a real window (only roof light).

We had breakfast and dinner at the restaurant and enjoyed all our meals.

.and with all the available restaurants in Oaxaca, it is probably best to just have breakfast at the hotel
We have previously stated in Oaxaca at Casa Oaxaca and Palacio Borghese.

The room service is fast and the breakfast buffet is good as well.

We ate breakfast in the hotel restaurant every day, and the buffet had every dish imaginable: beautiful fresh fruit, meats and cheeses, smoked salmon, pan de dulce, and an array of hot dishes.

The restaurant has delicious offerings for all meals of the day.

Finally make sure you enjoy the buffet breakfast which is one of the best I've had.

Despite that issue, the place is beautiful, there's a small gym, its location is great and we loved the chiminea fire at breakfast and the musicians.

In particular, the breakfast buffet offered a wonderful variety of foods for a very reasonable amount ($22.00USD) The coffee served is unmatched anywhere.

The breakfast restaurant has singers as well which was a treat!

I loved the pool, and their breakfast is quite good too!!

Breakfast buffet and cocktails were especially enjoyable.

As for the restaurant, the food was delicious.

Every aspect of our stay was excellent: beautiful spacious (super-high ceilings) clean room, gorgeous pool area, delicious breakfast (both local and international selection),  gardens, and concierge service.

We had breakfast each day in the hotel & it was superb.

This gorgeous garden setting restaurant in this historic property is one of my favorite places in the city for breakfast or coffee.

And we were being charged over $250/night for this privilege.

I gave her my credit card info and I got my confirmation number.

When my husband and I stated that breakfast was included, the clerk rudely rejected any deals with the Centurion AmEx card.

but of course when the charge came through it was for more.

There were hardly any sockets in the room to charge equipment and these were under a table in the corner and the bar shut at 6pm on a Sunday.

They only believed us when we produced our room key cards.

At the end of my trip, I found a charge on my card from the hotel for a minuscule amount.

When asked, the waiter said he saw my wife take a bite of my toast & thus the charge for 1 piece of bread.

We had a credit card on file from check in

Any additional devices incur an extra charge.

Also, I thought it was a bit much to charge for bottles of water.

Then there is the pettiness of allowing only 1 device connecting WiFi free of charge, second device is over $10 a day, just ridiculous, considering how much you are paying for the room.

Also we faced some problems at check-out, our bill was not accurate, charges of restaurant bills were added even we never had a meal at the hotel.

So this one in comparison does not provide enough for what they charge.

IF YOU WANT TO CONNECT A SECOND DEVICE THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT CHARGE.

Service indifferent, wifi barely works and they charge you for using the coffee maker in your room.

They checked us in at 7:20am, got us an upgraded room, and let us go to sleep in luxury for 3 hours before even given them our credit card.

Their Internet charges are high and the business center closes early.

If you charge me $5.41 for a coffee, then please have it be local and organic Oxaccan coffee and NOT FOLGERS CRYSTALS!

This place is not worth the price in my opinion

but the rooms are dark, small and overpriced.

Eva Gallardo quoted our rate for two rooms for five nights.

We had a hard time with the  check-in process; the State taxes increased a lot the amount that had been offered by our credit card concierge.

although I might not have stayed here on my own due to the rather high price.

Outrageously expensive and yet tiny rooms, miniscule bathrooms, dated furniture.

They aren’t bad by any means; they just aren’t what you typically get from a hotel that charges rates like the Quinta Real.

but the price is too high for what you get.

While the rate has soared, precious little has been done to the guest rooms to justify the rate increase or to make them more comfortable.

American Airlines has made such an onerously cheap deal that
there is a no refund policy and that includes weather, Act of God - no matter if you can't get there  It would have been great to understand this when booking the hotel.

though twice the price, our room at Quinta Real was far smaller.

It is a very expensive hotel there are many beautiful hotel in Oaxaca and significantly cheaper.

I thought it was too expensive for what it was,

I originally booked regular rooms, and paid extra to upgrade my rooms (actually total cost no more than a LC regular room).

The bathrooms are quite old and shabby so this hotel doesn’t deserve the stars that it rates itself!

but by far the most expensive (and we stayed at upscale hotels the whole time).

The level of service does not reflect the price we paid.

Also breakfast is quite expensive and not amazing.

.and some of the rooms are on the small side.

We only wish we had known in advance how small our room would turn out to be so that we could have booked a larger accommodation.

The rooms are small and we found them not at all comfortable.

However, we are totally not recommended this hotel because we faced misleading and misbehaving by the hotel and the reception staff - as following:
We booked in Booking.com a King Suit room and we got: a tiny room fare from the expectation of 5* hotel, one of the beds side with no dresser by the bed, no real wardrobe, bathroom with one sink instead of two as booked,  and no place our languages – put them under the table and under the sink (see my attached photos).

I had booked a “suite”and when we were shown the room it was really small.

I am OK with very small room,poor bathtub and shower,

Our room was small and claustrophobic, with only one small window.

However because the hotel was fitted into a convent, every room is different and many are quite small.

This place is centuries overdue for a refresh, old and tired, pealing paint, unkept pool area, tiny rooms and antiquated bathrooms not meant for two people.
