Were happy with friendly helpful staff so overall not a bad experience

Service from staff was very good and very friendly.

However, that cannot override the general feeling of comfort supported by lovely friendly staff who cannot do enough to help and provide great service.

Here is an hotel staffed by a cheerful, friendly and professional team.

On arrival at reception entrance is by a few steep steps without a handrail and not at all disabled friendly.

excellent venue, great staff, food was really good, set in a lovely part of northumberland this beautifull hall was set in beautiful grounds.

The person on the reception desk said they did not have a room on the ground floor, so our expectations were not met.

As others have stated recently in other reviews, the grounds are lovely for a pre or post dinner stroll and the bedrooms and public rooms have a grand feel to them with their high ceilings and country house furnishings.

The rooms are clean and well decorated a short walk from the main hotel in lovely grounds.

It is set in its own grounds with its own maze, and the beautifully coloured and maintained flower beds make it very picturesque .Our room was huge with a very large comfy bed and the bathroom had a large roll top bath as well as a shower.

Full of character, with spacious bedrooms and bathrooms, and nice grounds.

The grounds and gardens were beautifully maintained and it was a pleasure to sit out on an evening

Fabulous large room convenient to manage both trips outside for dog in the extensive grounds and the Spa, which we really enjoyed using.

Doxford Hall is a wonderful property at a great location, with fabulous food and lovely helpful staff.

This is a Country House Hotel conveniently located to visit the attractions of this part of Northumberland, The hotel is spacious and clean and to the front has well maintained gardens and a lawn overlooking a valley.Here there are chairs to sit

but the fish and chips were decidedly poor the evening before.

What a pity, a hotel spoiled by poor management and attention to detail and definitely not worthy of 4 stars.

The finger sandwiches were poor, not very imaginative and very, very little filling.

Breakfast was poor every morning inconsistent eggs were either terribly over cooked or under cooked, even toast was burnt black one morning, in conclusion I think you need to find a really good chef.

Couldn’t give 5 stars for the property as the shower poor and there wasn’t enough hot water for a bath.

Apart from that, the service was poor for example someone had to ask for tea (coffee was provided) and had to search for someone to ask for refills.

however pretty poor quality overall that certainly doesn’t match the cost when first impressions really do count.

Dinner was in stark contrast to breakfast which seemed more akin to a motorway services fast food approach to mass catering than quality dining  The venue was rated 3 due the dated decor, poor breakfast and general feeling that Doxford Hall had seen better days.

Very poor standard in my opinion not 4* at all, staff very unhelpful, food terrible and the cleanliness is abysmal, first time away since covid and I was devastated at how bad this stay was.

Management is being let down by a  cleaning agency which, when we stayed, was giving poor service to our room on some days.

I find this rather strange that a 4 star hotel today should have such poor connections for its guests!

We sat in the bar one evening for a quiet drink and the person behind the bar made so much noise we left if it wasn’t the coffee machine she was slamming glasses, slamming fridge doors closed and filling ice  clearly having a competition with herself as to how high above the ice bucket she could poor the ice in to make as much noise possible.

The afternoon tea was mediocre and the service there was very poor indeed.

The room itself whilst opulent had poor paintwork and scuffs up the wall.

Cleanliness has been rated poor due to shoes from a previous guest being left in our room.

Sleep quality was poor as the room very warm and windows rattled most of the night.

but impact on the experience when paying a lot such as having to ask for bowls at breakfast as they had run out and only uht milk available for tea/coffee in rooms; poor WiFi etc.

I won't risk being disappointed a second time at these prices.

although this had been paid at the booking stage.This was soon sorted out.

We did get the cost of our wine and one breakfast deducted from our bill,

Attention to detail would improve this establishment all round.At the moment I found it expensive for what is has  to offer.

To add further to my woes, there are no longer gowns or slippers in the rooms - at that price?!?

The food is very expensive for what it was.

This was surprising and disappointing, we have stayed in many hotels of this calibre and never not had robes provided, at the cost we paid for a night's stay it seemed ridiculous that they are not provided.

The more reasonably priced bottles of wine were sold out, making this a very expensive meal overall.

Did not agree with the additional gratuities or the extortionate pricing on the wine list.

We were a little disappointed to say the least considering what we paid for one night.

If they want to see more of the mature well travelled dinner guests coming for a George Runciman type experience at superior pricing then some training is required

but we didn’t book for dinner as it was quite expensive and my friend eats very little, so cannot comment on the food in the dining room.

The hotel definitely doesn’t live up to the 4* reputation and the price- the food was over priced and completely underwhelming, the bar was soulless and very understaffed, and the room needed some really basic improvements.

Even the crockery had seen better days,  the cheapest of white crockery any cafe would have!

however let it down badly, food not cooked as ordered, too many different elements on plates that didn’t go together, high prices did not reflect quality of food.

but often lacking in flavour and overpriced for what it was.

However considering the rates charged things should have been better.

Superb Spa with pool, steam room and jacuzzi.

but understood and were able to use the massive jacuzzi within the spa and leisure facilities.

The pool in the Spa is nice for a swim after a day out walking and exploring the area

Absolutely first class service, from front of house staff right through the whole hotel,to the spa, we were treated exquisitely by all staff.

Spa needs a re fresh and as per previous reviews 6pm closing is daft.

So you have a grand total of 3 hours to use the spa!!!

The spa is one of the best in the area, I visit the spa at least twice a year as a treat (I would like to make it more).

The spa tho on the smallish side was very refreshing after a days sightseeing round the area.If you are looking for a quiet relaxing break give it a try  we would definitely return should we be in that area again

Had a fabulous stay with family (3 generations) to celebrate 80th birthday with a morning spa package added on.

Reasonable value for money too and the pool/spa was a lovely addition.

The food and service was excellent and the staff all worked so hard to ensure we had a great stay.

The lad who was on desk canny lad who made us feel so welcome……

Special mention for Emily the bar supervisor.

Reception staff exceptionally helpful and gave us a tour of the hotel.

I mentioned it at the time of booking and the staff made us feel very special throughout our stay, from chocolates in the room, to individual staff (restaurant, reception and spa) all wishing us ‘Happy Anniversary’ as well as an after dinner treat!

It certainly feels that occupancy rates seem generally good (strengthened no doubt by its prime Northumberland location and lack of any serious hotel competition within its immediate vicinity) and
 its as if the owners are happy enough to just run things as they are.

This is a lovely hotel, ideally situated to visit Bamburgh Castle and explore the delights of Northumberland.

We came to visit Bamburgh castle and found this place nearby as we were looking for a nice pub meal.

We had a lovely stay here in Bamburgh, just a couple of minutes walk from the stunning Bamburgh castle & a couple more to the stunning beach.

We splashed out on a room with a great view of Bamburgh Castle.

The hotel is a 10 minute walk from Bamburgh Castle and beach.

Fantastic location near to the Bamburgh Castle.

the hotel is really close to Bamburgh Castle, the castle green & play area and the most stunning beaches you could imagine.

The hotel location was perfect for exploring Bamburgh Castle and for access to the beach.

Plus, Bamburgh castle and beech are beautiful, as is the village.

It’s about a 10 minute walk to a huge, sandy beach, the massive Bamburgh Castle, a golf club and of course Lindisfarne is about 17 miles away.

My wife and I got married in Bamburgh Castle in 2009 and had our reception at the “Vic” where we and our guests had an exceptional time.

So close to a beautiful well kept beach and the magical bamburgh castle.

If your plan is to visit Bamburgh Castle or Holy Island this hotel offers a fabulous base with the magnificent beach close by.

The Victoria hotel is in a lovely spot in Bamburgh facing onto the green, and a short walk up from the impressive Bamburgh Castle.

We stayed in room 42 which had a spectacular view of Bamburgh castle.

The Victoria Hotel is a beautiful small hotel just blocks from the Bamburgh Castle.

The staff extremely friendly and professional.

We were welcomed in such a warm friendly manner and offered a choice of booths.

To summarise - Excellent location, food and comfortable bed and friendly staff.

Our experience was very pleasant, as always, we find the staff to be polite and friendly, and they made a particular fuss of our granddaughter and our dog.

The evening meal was excellent and was served by happy,  helpful and friendly staff.

The staff all seemed friendly and our little one was really made to feel welcome, breakfast was nice and we had an evening meal which was really nice.

We've had a really lovely meal here this evening and the people who work here are, by-and-large, very nice and very friendly.

Overall a really great stay, We booked 2 x Superior rooms at £160 per night and thought great value with great breakfast and staff all friendly.

Other than that , I cleaned my own table, food good, service friendly , bar well run by a pleasant manager .

We were staying with our dog in a dog-friendly room and the carpets could testify to other dogs staying too.

Me, my other half and our dog were walking along and popped in to see if we could grab breakfast.

The bar does get very busy and good they take dogs.

Bed comfortable (we were in a superior dog allowed room) Special mention to Ruth and the young guy waiter who were very friendly and made us feel very welcome and especially our miniature schnauzer dog.

The hotel is in a great location and it is refreshing to find such a dog friendly hotel in a hot tourist spot.

The staff were great and really love dogs as they were all cuddling our dog and gave him treats.

Truly Dog friendly which is a massive plus  make sure you book finner at Potted Lobster next door if you like seafood! !

We took two dogs up to The Victoria for a few days holiday and the hotel was great.

Due to pandemic we haven’t been since 2019 so it was good to come back with our dog Bailey who loves it here.

Nicely presented at least, the ingredients of the sea-food sharing platter turned out to be a catalogue of missed opportunity, over-pricing and poor cooking.

Manager was quite dismissive of points raised on email not ideal at resolving issues or concerns raised and poor response in my view.

The lighting was poor as well, despite several lamps, it was not bright enough to read in bed unfortunately.

Service was poor and choices of meals disappointing.

The 2 girls behind the bar where particular poor.

However, this hotel was let down by the poor standard of the bedroom, which has clearly lacked any investment for some time.

but after such a poor night sleep we felt like we had no choice.

There was plenty of hot water after walking in poor weather and lovely fluffy towels.

Very disappointed, hotel dark & dreary, food poor, bar lights dimmed at night, good hotel position wasted.

poor signage to room.Generally very perfunctory process.No outside table service . .

Food/drinks vastly overpriced and the quality was poor.

Rude staff who appear to resent customers, over priced drinks and poor quality food.

but his very words were “ what for” , the poor food I said “I’m just the barman’ he said.

This was a more mature woman with curly grey hair, and extremely scruffy in Bermuda shorts, can be found in reception or outside the front door smoking most days.

Bathroom very small, the shower unit a ceiling had black mould which needs addressing, comfy bed

Crab sandwich consisted of stale slices of bread and brown crab meat.

Dogs shedding all over food area. Disgusting.

Crab sandwiches - bread was stale, not much crab (and it was nearly all the brown meat).

The next morning we discovered why there was a smell.

It smelt when we first entered and we had to air it for a while.

What disgusting behaviour to allow your dogs to sleep on a hotel bed and particularly when a hotel specifies dogs should not get on the beds.

Slept uneasy after that point as I was worried at what the smell was.

Breakfast OK. Our room had a strange chemical smell that caused myself and husband breathing difficulties.

Generally the room was small and needed a good refurbishment as the tiles in the bathroom were cracked and the wall board under the sink was rotten and coming away from the wall.

She said the smell might be air freshener.

The only downside in Room 3 was the smell from the kitchen

Dashed down to the bar to watch England in the World Cup & came back exhausted to find the room smelling of chips from the kitchen extractor below the window.

My original room was small and pokey over the kitchen with an unpleasant smell.

Our room smelled of chips from the kitchen below, corridor floors creaked noisily every time someone walked past, no air conditioning so the room soon got too hot unless we opened the window, which only made the smell of chips worse.

When we went to our room the toilet was filthy and in our daughters room there was sand in the bath!!!

The good things about our stay at this hotel was first of all the restaurant/breakfast staff.

Food is amazing either in the bar or restaurant and the staff are brilliant too.

Te restaurant its food and staff are excellent , no complaints at all, huge portions and lovely staff on duty.

“Of course” the helpful lady behind the bar said.

They remain calm and act professionally at all times,  in testing circumstances.

The staff were so pleasant especially Macauley( Mac) who always had a smile and a chat .
