Were happy with friendly helpful staff so overall not a bad experience

Service from staff was very good and very friendly.

However, that cannot override the general feeling of comfort supported by lovely friendly staff who cannot do enough to help and provide great service.

Here is an hotel staffed by a cheerful, friendly and professional team.

The food was delicious and all the staff we met were v friendly and ready to chat.

On arrival at reception entrance is by a few steep steps without a handrail and not at all disabled friendly.

excellent venue, great staff, food was really good, set in a lovely part of northumberland this beautifull hall was set in beautiful grounds.

The person on the reception desk said they did not have a room on the ground floor, so our expectations were not met.

As others have stated recently in other reviews, the grounds are lovely for a pre or post dinner stroll and the bedrooms and public rooms have a grand feel to them with their high ceilings and country house furnishings.

The rooms are clean and well decorated a short walk from the main hotel in lovely grounds.

It is set in its own grounds with its own maze, and the beautifully coloured and maintained flower beds make it very picturesque .Our room was huge with a very large comfy bed and the bathroom had a large roll top bath as well as a shower.

Full of character, with spacious bedrooms and bathrooms, and nice grounds.

The grounds and gardens were beautifully maintained and it was a pleasure to sit out on an evening

Fabulous large room convenient to manage both trips outside for dog in the extensive grounds and the Spa, which we really enjoyed using.

My disabled room was on the ground floor and was fairly well equipped

Doxford Hall is a wonderful property at a great location, with fabulous food and lovely helpful staff.

This is a Country House Hotel conveniently located to visit the attractions of this part of Northumberland, The hotel is spacious and clean and to the front has well maintained gardens and a lawn overlooking a valley.Here there are chairs to sit

but the fish and chips were decidedly poor the evening before.

What a pity, a hotel spoiled by poor management and attention to detail and definitely not worthy of 4 stars.

The finger sandwiches were poor, not very imaginative and very, very little filling.

Breakfast was poor every morning inconsistent eggs were either terribly over cooked or under cooked, even toast was burnt black one morning, in conclusion I think you need to find a really good chef.

Couldn’t give 5 stars for the property as the shower poor and there wasn’t enough hot water for a bath.

Apart from that, the service was poor for example someone had to ask for tea (coffee was provided) and had to search for someone to ask for refills.

however pretty poor quality overall that certainly doesn’t match the cost when first impressions really do count.

Dinner was in stark contrast to breakfast which seemed more akin to a motorway services fast food approach to mass catering than quality dining  The venue was rated 3 due the dated decor, poor breakfast and general feeling that Doxford Hall had seen better days.

Very poor standard in my opinion not 4* at all, staff very unhelpful, food terrible and the cleanliness is abysmal, first time away since covid and I was devastated at how bad this stay was.

Management is being let down by a  cleaning agency which, when we stayed, was giving poor service to our room on some days.

I find this rather strange that a 4 star hotel today should have such poor connections for its guests!

We sat in the bar one evening for a quiet drink and the person behind the bar made so much noise we left if it wasn’t the coffee machine she was slamming glasses, slamming fridge doors closed and filling ice  clearly having a competition with herself as to how high above the ice bucket she could poor the ice in to make as much noise possible.

The afternoon tea was mediocre and the service there was very poor indeed.

The room itself whilst opulent had poor paintwork and scuffs up the wall.

Cleanliness has been rated poor due to shoes from a previous guest being left in our room.

Sleep quality was poor as the room very warm and windows rattled most of the night.

but impact on the experience when paying a lot such as having to ask for bowls at breakfast as they had run out and only uht milk available for tea/coffee in rooms; poor WiFi etc.

I won't risk being disappointed a second time at these prices.

although this had been paid at the booking stage.This was soon sorted out.

We did get the cost of our wine and one breakfast deducted from our bill,

Attention to detail would improve this establishment all round.At the moment I found it expensive for what is has  to offer.

To add further to my woes, there are no longer gowns or slippers in the rooms - at that price?!?

The food is very expensive for what it was.

This was surprising and disappointing, we have stayed in many hotels of this calibre and never not had robes provided, at the cost we paid for a night's stay it seemed ridiculous that they are not provided.

The more reasonably priced bottles of wine were sold out, making this a very expensive meal overall.

Did not agree with the additional gratuities or the extortionate pricing on the wine list.

We were a little disappointed to say the least considering what we paid for one night.

If they want to see more of the mature well travelled dinner guests coming for a George Runciman type experience at superior pricing then some training is required

but we didn’t book for dinner as it was quite expensive and my friend eats very little, so cannot comment on the food in the dining room.

The hotel definitely doesn’t live up to the 4* reputation and the price- the food was over priced and completely underwhelming, the bar was soulless and very understaffed, and the room needed some really basic improvements.

Even the crockery had seen better days,  the cheapest of white crockery any cafe would have!

however let it down badly, food not cooked as ordered, too many different elements on plates that didn’t go together, high prices did not reflect quality of food.

but often lacking in flavour and overpriced for what it was.

However considering the rates charged things should have been better.

Elegant restaurant where we ate for three nights.

The dining experience was excellent with a good choice of menu.

The one thing that Doxford does have is a great chef, the food was really good and enjoyable.

The rooms were amazing and the breakfast and food we had throughout the day were delicious.

We chose for the highly regarded dining and all food ordered was very good.

The quality and presentation of the food in the restaurant was consistently excellent and well presented.

We love the restaurant, and the food is very good (the idea of adding the "Market Menu" to the "A la Carte Menu" was inspired).

Let down by the restaurant who had lost our booking for dinner.

We visited Craster for lunch and a walk along the coastal path, it was beautiful.

Some meals are very nice indeed (mackerel starter and pork belly very good one evening)

We felt that function guests were prioritised - we were moved to a side room for dining and breakfast menu reduced for 2 of our 3 mornings.

We made our way through to the dining room and waited for someone to seat us.

Superb Spa with pool, steam room and jacuzzi.

Spacious and pleasant superior room, easy to spend time in.

The rooms were good and the grounds/garden were nice to explore.

The room (4 poster) was very spacious, and due to the high ceilings did not feel hot at all despite the warm weather.

Stayed in a lovely, large and stylish room in the Coach House.

Also the £5.00 charge for a loan of robes to visit the spa in the first place is scandalous when other hotels in the same chain provide them in the rooms.

We stayed 1 night in a deluxe room for our anniversary.

The room was excellent, comfortable and had all that we needed.

On the positive side - my room was lovely and my cooked breakfast exceptional.

We were in the three rooms at the coach house, which was perfect.

but understood and were able to use the massive jacuzzi within the spa and leisure facilities.

The pool in the Spa is nice for a swim after a day out walking and exploring the area

Absolutely first class service, from front of house staff right through the whole hotel,to the spa, we were treated exquisitely by all staff.

Spa needs a re fresh and as per previous reviews 6pm closing is daft.

So you have a grand total of 3 hours to use the spa!!!

The spa is one of the best in the area, I visit the spa at least twice a year as a treat (I would like to make it more).

The spa tho on the smallish side was very refreshing after a days sightseeing round the area.If you are looking for a quiet relaxing break give it a try  we would definitely return should we be in that area again

Had a fabulous stay with family (3 generations) to celebrate 80th birthday with a morning spa package added on.

Reasonable value for money too and the pool/spa was a lovely addition.

Special mention for Emily the bar supervisor.

Reception staff exceptionally helpful and gave us a tour of the hotel.

I mentioned it at the time of booking and the staff made us feel very special throughout our stay, from chocolates in the room, to individual staff (restaurant, reception and spa) all wishing us ‘Happy Anniversary’ as well as an after dinner treat!

It certainly feels that occupancy rates seem generally good (strengthened no doubt by its prime Northumberland location and lack of any serious hotel competition within its immediate vicinity) and
 its as if the owners are happy enough to just run things as they are.

The Cookie Jar sets a very high standard at this beautifully interior designed boutique hotel in Alnwick; it was perfect in every way for our 2 day break in Northumberland;

The decor and furnishings made it one of the nicest boutique locations we have ever stayed.

We were expecting a cafe, how wrong we were, it is a lovely little boutique hotel with a super restaurant and garden if you wish to eat out.

Designer chic, boutique style throughout, coupled with really attentive staff and fantastic breakfast.

It didn’t really match the boutique hotel feel, I’m particularly talking about the evening meal.

This lovely new boutique hotel is beautifully decorated throughout and our room was equally well presented.

Warm and professional they get the balance right from Mick's welcome to Lyn's cheery greeting at breakfast.

The staff are well trained and welcoming, the whole property is well maintained and presented, the location is great for the town, and the service, and the breakfast are excellent.

Also the lovely blonde lady who served us our afternoon tea & also our breakfast, sadly I didn’t catch her name.

From our perspective, the highlights were the tranquillity of the Chapel room, the high standard of food and service in the bistro, both at breakfast and dinner, and, above all, the friendliness and professionalism of every member of staff we met.

We had breakfast on both mornings of our stay and also enjoyed an evening meal all of which were excellent.

The menu changed between our two visits, with further delicious dishes sampled.

Never ever come across this before. Ok so explain the breakfast we had paid for “you can put your dog in our kennels” (our pug has never been in a kennel), you can put him in your car” (great, car is parked a quarter of a mile away and it’s 28 degrees!)

Everything about the hotel was first class: room, public areas, dinner and breakfast.

All the rooms are very comfortably and tastefully furnished with every comfort (great beds, wonderful shower, tea/coffee making facilities - plus delicious cookies, excellent breakfast and the service is wonderful).

The food for dinner and breakfast was incredible.

The breakfast selection was good and they serve excellent coffee.

The breakfast was delicious and highlighted the delicious local Craster kippers amongst other delights.

, the food was delicious, made even better by the raspberry and elderflower gin.

Our room (Dunstanburgh) was bright and airy and very comfortable.

The decor and furnishings are of an exceptional quality.

Our room on the top floor was furnished immaculately - a blue/cream theme runs through the property and is all very tasteful.

I would love the interior designer to do the same to our home 

The bed was extremely comfortable with crisp white linen.

The hotel itself is well decorated and comfortable.

Cookies are the ultimate comfort food, baked with love, bite sized  and personal just like everything in this hotel.No detail has been spared in delivering great service in immaculately clean and beautifully decorated rooms, and then being presented with delicious local food expertly prepared and presented.Our room was spacious, full of lovely toiletries and our cookie jar replenished every day!

Lovely comfortable rooms in a quirky hotel that often felt like a rabbit warren.

On top of that, they have on-site kennels, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful in accommodating our very young rescue puppy who had appeared on the scene after I had already booked the stay!

Free and unrestricted parking about 500m further along   

•	Appearance: excellent attention to detail so first impressions very positive, both in public areas and in bedroom, spotlessly clean, neat and tidy with unique, quirky and individual décor/ furnishings

•	Bedroom: (St. Cuthbert’s Cave): large, bright and stylish with clear views to Castle.

As well as enjoying the luxurious interior of the hotel we were also fortunate with the weather and made the most of a beautiful garden to sit in and  enjoy a delicious bottle of wine.

We stayed for one night at The Cookie Jar as a base for visiting Alnwick Castle and Gardens.

Great tastes, good value, in a refined dining room setting or outside on the garden terrace.

Everything about the Cookie Jar was lovely, from the welcoming staff, the layout and decor is very tasteful, there is a charming garden and seating area in the rear of the hotel, our room was really nice, the breakfasts are really good and a large selection, the location is ideal for the town, castle, castle gardens or if you are just going to take a ramble.

The gardens are the rear are a hidden gem, with the sun out you should pay a visit with a relaxing drink.

The garden was a great experience for pre dinner drinks and afternoon tea.

I think we'll come back in Summer when it will be sunny enough to eat on the outdoor garden terrace.

Dinner was excellent as was the pre dinner drink outside in the charming little garden at the back of the hotel.

but breakfast was fabulous and was served in a beautiful dining room overlooking the garden.

We were also able to enjoy the garden as we were lucky enough to get some late September sunshine.

We had Holy Island which was spacious for two of us, had a nice garden view as well as a stunning monsoon-style shower.

Not the best decision as food at the Cookie Jar is excellent and our dinner out was only just ok.

Had the weather been better if would have been lovely to sit in the garden which looked to be a beautiful space, very peaceful and calming.

Ahead of dinner we enjoyed a locally distilled Gin in the garden, which was super quiet and extremely pleasant.

but we were forgotten about so sat a bit lost admiring the beautiful gardens.

Would 100% recommend and look forward to returning in the future the visit the castle and gardens.
