If there is any downside to the room design, it's that the bathroom doors have glass windows in them.

While the room had plenty of square footage, the configuration of the bathroom door, bedroom door and closet door was a bit awkward.

The rooms are very comfortable ~ the only two things I wasn’t crazy about was only one person can fit in the bathroom at a time unless one in the shower because of the door, the toilet paper was on the wall & hard to turn & reach so put the extra bear in a cubby.

If I have to find anything to complain about, and this is minor, the window in the bathroom door is a bit strange.

Also, there is a glass window on the bathroom door for some reason!

1) The bathroom doors feature frosted glass.

My only criticism is that the bathroom door does not provide the privacy I prefer since the glasses is see-thru,

Minor negatives: 1) window in the bathroom door: despite textured glass, you can definitely make out if someone is dressed or not.

Con - the only con was the bathroom door was a beveled glass.

The only "weakness" of the hotel is the bathroom door have a translucent window so there is a little lack of privacy.

The teen found the frosted glass window in the bathroom door a little disconcerting

As others have commented, the bathroom door had a frosted pane of glass and there was no extractor fan, which may bother some.

but definitely looked it, and the bathroom door was more or less see through.

Our only complaint is the glass window in the bathroom door and therefore, lack of towel hooks.

but I believe they would have brought you one),  The bathtub in our room was weirdly small - low to the ground for someone who may want to take a bath, and while I loved the bathroom door with the beveled glass, my daughter was a little freaked out that we could see her using the facilities (no one was watching).

The only things that could be improved are the bathroom doors, which don't close well, and the air vents in the bathrooms, which are a bit small for their purpose.

but the bathroom door opened and block the shower so that was awkward.

Decor was very generic, it  was impossible to shut bathroom door without walking sideways, outlets near bed for charging were not easily accessible, and there was no television in the bedroom of the suite.

I plan events myself and always negotiate a good price for buying wine and cheese in bulk.

We missed the evening wine and cheeses offering - it was such a nice treat following a day touring and walking around the city.

Yes, as we were informed during boking,  they stopped the afternoon wine & cheese, and the variety in the morning was slightly reduced.

I am hopeful that the Happy Hour wine and cheese is brought back soon, understandable given Covid.

The accommodating  and responsive staff, including Gabriela, Gaby and the others made up for the elimination of the happy hour wine and cheese and the continental breakfast.

Your lady who serves wine and cheese during happy hour is outstanding.

The breakfast is fantastic and the evening wine and cheese always a nice perk.

The cheeses were high quality, served with crackers and fruit.

Great lower Park Avenue location, nice size quiet room with yummy soft sheets, wonderful lobby serving wine and cheese in the early evening, a delicious breakfast in the morning, and Expresso all day!

Excellent service, excellent room, lots of extras provided like free tea, coffee, wine, cheese, biscuits, breakfast, all in an excellent location on Park Avenue South.

Wine and cheese in the late afternoon and a good continental breakfast in the morning are just two of the little touches that make staying here a very pleasurable experience.

We enjoyed the wine and cheese in the evening and the breakfast in the mornings.

There's a simple breakfast in the morning, wine and cheese in the evening, and cookies and coffee the rest of the time with a very nice lobby to enjoy it all.

The cheese and wine from 5-8 was a delight, slumping in to the comfy chairs in the lobby after a long day exploring.

Cheeses and crackers, with olives and nuts were the perfect nibbles.

That includes service, cleanliness, location, complimentary breakfast and afternoon wine/ cheese and more.

The lovely Gabriella is there daily serving wine, cheese and biscuits from 5-8, You only have to sit down and a drink is there - Gabriella remembers everyone’s drink, which is a nice touch.

but plenty in the area AND Giraffe has wine and cheese from 5 - 7 p.m.

Great service, beautifully decorated, comfortable rooms, lovely lobby for breakfast, lounging, early evening wine and cheese, location.

At night the rooms were very dark (dark blinds) and the noise was not excessive.

The living room looked out into a dark ventilation shaft and as a result was very dull and depressing in the day time (see photo).

There was a motorized screen that blocked the entire balcony window area so that the room was dark for sleeping.

Hard to get dressed for  a big night in the dark.

This was a small dingy hotel with maybe 8 rooms per floor, a small dark central corridor, terribly lighting.

Empire state Bldg at dark, then finished off at the Library Hotel, another sister hotel for their social hour.

though a bit dark, dark painted  walls,inner facing windows in the suite section.

but there  are:   (1) It is quite  "tired"  and in need of  renovating as rooms  are dark, furnishing  a bit old and the corridors  decidedly  gloomy.

For starters, I prefer a room to be three things - cold, dark and quiet.

The lighting in the room was a bit dark especially if you wanted to read.

We initially got a very dark and sad suite (which we actually had booked),

The only complaint we have is that the room was so dark and the light insufficient.

If i had to think of a con it would be the dark hallways on the guest floors.

but she had short dark hair and I'd guess is originally from Eastern Europe) was so attentive and kept us topped up!!

The only comment I’d make is that the room was dark even with the lights on and we couldn’t raise the window shade in the sitting room as we looked directly into an office window.

Overall this was a good  base for exploring Manhattan.

The hotel is perfectly located for about anything you might want to do or see in Manhattan.

A relatively undiscovered gem in a lovely area of Manhattan.

Overall this was one of our very best Manhattan hotel stays over the years, and we would definitely stay here again.

The staff were very attentive, helping with extra blankets in January, arranging a can and the hotel is very quiet for a Manhattan hotel.

The Hotel Giraffe offered a warm, comfortable place to stay right in the heart of Manhattan.

It was beautifully appointed, the service was fantastic across the board and the hotel is perfectly located in Manhattan for easy access to anything in the city.

The Hotel Giraffe is quickly becoming our go-to for short trips into Manhattan.

The location is walking distance to a wide range of shopping, theater and activities, and if you hop on the train around the corner in Madison Square (lots of overlapping and connecting lines) you can get practically anywhere in Manhattan in half an hour.

I feel grateful to have found a home away from home in manhattan.

We have stayed at the Hotel Giraffe several times and it remains our go-to hotel in Manhattan.

Mid-town Manhattan has literally hundreds of hotels, and many of them are truly great.

It is so pleasant to have a light breakfast and read the paper in the morning, surrounded by bustling Manhattan and yet feeling like you are in your own home.

The lobby is like a large living room,  furnished with tables and chairs, as well as sofas and easy chairs.

but we still love this hotel and hope that the city will lift those mandates sometime down the road and the lobby service will resume.

The staff was excellent, the snacks/drinks provided in the lobby were handy, and our room was spacious, clean and welcoming.

We loved that there were always snacks, tea, coffee, water and lattes in the lobby.

So, the always welcoming greetings from the hotel staff when I was in the lobby and their inquiries as to my husband's condition were balms to my anxiety.

When our room was ready, a staff member came over to where we were lounging in the lobby and gave us the keys to our room, letting us know that everything was ready and that our luggage was already there and waiting for us!

The lobby was open and casual with coffee/snack bar.

Especially enjoyed the lobby bar offerings of waters, sodas, fruits and snacks round the clock.

I cannot compliment the friendliness, help and support of the staff - from receiving packages in advance, to bringing all our luggage, boxes and bags up to the room and then back out when we 'moved' to the dorm, our beautiful and comfortable room - even the snacks and drinks available in the lobby were great.

The drinks and snacks in the lobby were great for when we took breaks from sightseeing.

The rooftop bar and snacks in the lobby are bonuses.

However, there was a nice supply of snacks (and cappuccino) in the lobby and the area has great restaurant offerings.

Gabby is the hostess with the mostest-always a smile on her face and provides wonderful service in the lobby at breakfast and happy hour.

The lobby is elegant and extremely luxurious.

Downstairs restaurant open after 5pm- grab a bottle of wine and use the rooftop bar!

I have to say that what set the Giraffe from the many hotels in the same category was the wine and cheese reception in the evening and the breakfast in the morning.

Would highly recommend - our 5th stay at the hotel and it was fabulous- missed having cheese and wine in the evenings

That combination of qualities is rare in NYC, as is a private balcony where you can enjoy a cup of coffee or glass of wine in the evening.

Before the pandemic, they had a daily wine tasting with cheese and snacks, and they always had good snacks available around breakfast.

It was such a bonus having wine and cheese each evening, fruit and beverages always available and the delicious continental breakfast was wonderful.

The three hour wine reception is outstanding.

I was celebrating a big birthday and was surprised to find a complementary bottle of wine and note from the hotel.

We asked if there was a local spot where we could get a glass of wine.

I've stayed there 5-6 times in the last 18 months and always found them to have great customer service, plus the breakfast and wine o'clock evening snacks are great.

We refer to this hotel as the hotel that keeps giving: fantastic breakfast, amazing wine and cheese reception, 24 hour espresso machine, super clean and modern room with a comfy cozy bed, attentive and friendly personnel, and free use of New York City Sports Club.

Pleasantly surprised by this lovely little hotel with nice amenities and extra services, including wine and cheese happy hour and a delightful breakfast.

The only negatives are that the rooms and furniture are a bit dated (AC units are noisy),

It’s an old school hotel, we had to get someone up to adjust the heating when we were melting the first night,

however the mini suite had antiquated window units which were terribly noisy and brought food smells to the room.

but we didn't bargain for construction work that went on all night directly outside our window, or for the gap in the window where an air conditioning unit had been retrofitted and the sliding glass panel removed, allowing noise from the construction work and the delivery depot opposite, as well as the smell of fried onions from the food truck servicing the night workers, directly into our room.

Wasn't impressed with the window A/C's in the room which are hard to control and very loud.

Also, during my latest stay (last night), I'd gotten into my nightgown and was prepping for bed when I tried to turn on the overhead fan (no luck), and tried to turn on the TV (also no luck).

It was a very old unit and the noise it made was like a jet engine.

My only concern was that the room worked on heat from old radiators that were noisy and did not keep it very warm,

but the window AC unit too loud and did not dehumidify well.

One minor inconvenience was that the room didn't have an adjustable thermostat.

Only a small CAVEAT : for the first time ever, this year we stayed  at Casablanca  in December, COLD season, weather below 0C (32F)  To our dismay,our deluxe room was cold   :(      Someone promptly came in and tried to fix the heating unit;several hours later .

The only thing that I would suggest is that the air conditioning units get removed from the windows when the weather changes or find a way to seal them better.

The hotel is old, the lift rickety, the rooms tired, and the window attached air conditioning phenomenally loud.

Our only complaint about the room was the noisy aircon.

However, this is an old building and was just not my taste in decor and room size, and the AC unit was loud and blew directly at the bed.

Due to the air conditioning unit being inserted into the window it sounded like the window had been left open.

My air conditioning was also a bit too noisy (and that would be my one request next time),

Window air conditioning units were loud and barely kept room cold.

The window-unit air conditioner was very noisy.

It had a window to the back with no view and directly next to the main airconditioning system so it was very noisy, particularly at night when trying to sleep.

There are  hardboiled eggs for breakfast, the staff will heat oatmeal porridge for you and toast bagels with cream cheese.

hot coffee, cappuccino , espresso, warm milk, juice, yougurt, boiled eggs, bagels ( toasted or untoasted), creme cheese, scones, muffins, croissants ( including chocolate), fresh fruit, soda and bottled water.

We used to get a period of time where we had wine and cheese at the end of the day and caught up with other guests reflecting on their day's experiences.

The cheese and wine in an evening was a welcome treat as was the provision of tea/coffee and pastries throughout the day.

The included breakfast and cheese and wine offered daily are superb and the staff that serve these are so friendly and welcoming.

Free cheese and wine was a great place for us to meet and gave a pre dinner drink before hitting the town.

The wine and cheese, the cookies and the breakfast were all wonderful, plenty of everything.

They provide a great Continental breakfast and wine and cheese at 5-8 which is just enough before the show!

The evening cheese and wine was a lovely opportunity to meet others.

The hotel room we had was spacious and contained all that you would need on a 3/4 day city break.The 5pm-7pm cheese and wine evening time was very welcome, after a day of walking the city, allowing you to relax and chill.

Good continental breakfast and wine and cheese in the evenings.

The second floor is a lounge where breakfast, an extended happy hour with wine and cheese, and coffee and treats throughout the day are available.

Happy Hour wine and cheese is a nice touch.

We enjoyed the cheese and wine service a lot.

Rick’s Cafe on the second floor is a pleasant location for breakfast and complimentary wine and cheese in the evening.

The afternoon cheese and wine is definitely not to be missed, an excellent selection of good quality cheeses etc.

!—there is a 5 pm “happy hour” in an absolutely lovely room with fireplace, with very good coffee, fruit, cheese, crudités, wine, and so forth.

Every afternoon they offer wine and cheese reception with crakers, fruits, cheese, wine and prosecco.

Breakfast was a great bonus along with cheese and wine in the evening.

Given the small rooms, what sets the hotel apart is the second floor space they call Rick’s Cafe that is used for the continental breakfast,

So when we arrived at the Casablanca my first impression was “ this is a small room!”
However any concerns were soon swiftly set aside.

Being just off tidiness square the rooms are small and so are the elevators,

Times Square is a half-block away, Bryant Park is around the block, and the theatre district is just a few minutes walk.

The theater district and Times Square are so close by, making this an incredibly convenient place to stay.

Excellent location in the theater district.

Plus it's in such a great location- close to Times Square and the theatre district.

This hotel is our favorite in NYC for the location to the Theater District and the homey atmosphere.

It's right on the edge of Times Square, walkable to the Theater District and major train stops.

The location is perfect for staying near the Theater District.

This is a perfect sized boutique hotel in the heart of the theater district.

The hotel is situated in the theater district in the Times square area, making it an easy walk to the many broadway theaters.

The Casablanca is an excellent choice if you are looking to stay in the theater district or near Times Square.

The hotel is one block away from the hustle and bustle of Time Square and the Theater District while still quiet and quaint.

This small boutique hotel, located one-half block from Times Square, in the heart of the Theatre District, completely exceeded our expectations.

A fantastic find in the middle of the NYC theatre district.

The shower curtain was very short and difficult to keep in the tub so the floor got a bit wet during showers. 2.

There should have been a curtain to block the light in the bedroom.

And the blinds don't work to keep out the sun very well.

Very warm, had to open window for some air

although a staff member adjusted the valve on the radiator, it didn't help much and we had to leave the bathroom window open to cool the room down.

I suggested that they should either "Comp" the 3rd night or at least discount it by  50% because it is ridiculous to have a jack-hammer going until 2AM right outside the bedroom window.

..The first night we were there our room had a window overlooking 43rd Ave, which is where the construction is.

It was dark with one small window in the corner that was mostly filled with an air conditioning unit and looked out onto a “courtyard”

My only criticism about the room would be the air conditioning unit could only be used when the window was open.

The only issue I personally had at this hotel was the noise from the window air conditioning unit, issue of staying in the US I guess!

Cons include dated decor, small rooms, slow and BUMPY elevators, frosted windows, loud air conditioner, resort fee, and no notification for early check-in.

but we were so disappointed when we saw the room, it was tiny (even by New York  standard's) and so dark as light from the small window was blocked by the fire escape, the bathroom door when opened hit the bed.

Some of our favorite things: the theme in decor, the amazing lounges where one can read, watch TV, play games, relax with wine. Wow!

We put it was our anniversary on the reservation and they surprised us with a bottle of sparkling wine on ice!! Nice!

It is my husband’s birthday and when we arrived we had a nice bottle of red wine with two glasses waiting.

We were met with a complimentary bottle of wine in the room upon our arrival - a nice touch!

While the service, decor and location of the Casablanca Hotel is outstanding, we really missed the previously offered breakfast and afternoon wine and snacks.

The wine and cheese reception in the afternoon is a great way to unwind, and meet others staying at the hotel.

The hotel was very clean, with many amenities such as a wine and cheese reception from 5:00 - 8:00 and 24/7 coffee!

The living space on level 2 was a relaxing, made better by wine and cheese every afternoon, coffee and pastries all day and the fresh continental breakfast was perfect.

Nice breakfast and wine and cheese every day.

The wine and cheese reception was fantastic and the complimentary breakfast the following morning was so appreciated rather than having to go out and find a restaurant before heading to our conference and it was definitely a great value add.

Decent breakfast spread, even better evening wine and cheese reception.
