As a Manhattan resident since 2002 and as having stayed in many hotels in the city, I would say that this has by far been my favorite due to the combination of kind staff, exceptional service, fair prices, and spacious, comfortable rooms.

but the staff is great, the rooms comfortable and updated and the Internet wireless free and fast.

Once again, this was an excellent visit - very efficient wifi (important in a zoom based world) - and super helpful staff with a very comfortable room.

The room was very comfortable and I greatly appreciated having a room with interior windows (verses facing 42nd).

When I insisted on being overcharged she without saying anything further hang up the phone and did not answer my call after.

Housekeeping staff were very good and we had the room cleaned with fresh towels daily. Checkout wasn't very efficient and I am currently in contact with the hotel in dispute of our bill (we were nearly charged twice for residence tax on checking out and believe we were also charged on checking in, so just be aware of hhis as the checkout staff commented that there was a "glitch in the system".)

It was also quite expensive when you add tips, the city taxes and the additional $45 per night charged by the hotel.

Elevator requires a key card to access your floor as most do in major cities now.

but are in different rooms on different floors their floor number should be put on your card as well so you are able to go see them.

I was promised no charge until clarified with Monika.

What they do is charge you $150 to bring it to a parking garage four blocks away.

Oh, and there are no less than 5 taxes and fees charged per day per room.

The full amount was deducted from our card before we even saw the room.

but we discovered afterwards that they had billed and charged two cards separately anyway, despite assuring us at the time.

Be prepared for the daily charges another tax is added to the city tax !!!

Housekeeping still made the pullout couch bed for us every day and no fee was charged.

We asked if it was charged at all hotels and a NYC law,

In the end I locked my credit card so they couldn’t charge me.

Receptionist’s first words were ‘ I need your credit card for your room’ Hardly a warm welcome.

but still, there was no way I should have been charged for that drink.

The breakfast was given in the form of credit of $25 per day which I utilized at a single time as I stayed for 2 days.

but the $25 credit we received when booking lessoned the blow a little.

On arrival we were gifted with two drinks to visit the rooftop bar and wow what an experience, a modern stylistic bar with great ambiance and a laugher and chat to be heard from all over the rooftop.

The Knickerbocker Hotel in NYC is a perfect blend of timeless elegance and modern luxury.

The rooms are spacious, very modern, comfortable and clean with lovely bed linens.

It was a pleasant surprise considering most hotels in New York are small and expensive for no reason.

He offered a price of nearly $200 per night or my reservation would be canceled, to which I agreed given I did not have anywhere else to go on the last minute.

All other places were almost double the price.

The robes definitely need updating as there was rips in one of them and they weren't the softest of materials.

Avoid this place at all costs for the sake of your pockets and your NYC experience.

When we requested a restaurant recommendation, we were automatically given a top end one (dinner that evening cost me $200+ and I've had MUCH better for under $100 (I later learned the hotel is affiliated with a number of restaurants so they will only ever recommend them).

However, the lack of tea/coffee making  and (empty) mini bar facilities made the stay feel more 4 star with a 5 star price tag.

Now the rate is more than double for a decrepit and worn down hotel with poor service.

My only comment was the parking was odd and a bit expensive at 360 for 2 nights.

At $700 a night I wasn't going to settle for anything less than what I paid for.

I, personally, would have paid an extra 300-400 per night at another hotel if it meant I would get better overall service and what I asked for.

Parking is a little tricky- was given the address of an off-site parking garage, and because I used the QR code at the garage (which was prompted when pulling up to the garage), and because the hotel staff ran out of validation tickets, I ended up having to pay a lot for parking.

Our only "complaint" was that the cocktails were a tad pricey for our budget.

The rooftop bar was a real treat, boasting spectacular city views and a great selection of drinks.

We received 2 comp drinks for the roof top bar and an upgrade to a corner suite.

but the roof top bar and location of the hotel more than make up for this.

Even with the hotel in Time Square the rooms are very quiet.

Bigger than expected for an NYC hotel room in times square for that price.

The overall experience was good, the location at the corner of Times square is absolutely top with a subway entrance just out of the door.

The hotel is in an ideal location, right on Times Square.

This location was fantastic for getting a taste of the craziness of Times Square, without having to take time to “go see it.” We had super easy access to subway to get all over the city.

This is a great hotel at a historic building, good rates for NY, with the best location at times Square, including subway hub at their door step.

Previously there was wine, cheese, nuts etc replaced by sodas and packaged snacks.

The lounge on the 2nd floor is a great place to gather with friends or family in small groupings for a continental breakfast or wine and cheese at night.

The front desk staff was as welcoming as ever and even with reduced services (the lovely breakfasts and wine and cheese were temporarily unavailable, it was still a memorable visit.

Wine and cheese  is served in the late afternoon in the hotel's quiet  Club Room which gives you time to relax after a day of activity and leaves down time to bath dress and prepare for an evening event.

There are  many amenities such as coffee all day, continental delicious breakfast, wine & cheese and snacks in the Club Room with wonderful music of all kinds.

Nice wine and cheese are served for hours every evening and continental breakfast is also very nice.

Complimentary continental breakfast and late afternoon wine and cheese in a living room like setting are just special--met many interesting hotel guests.

Afternoon wine, nuts, crackers and cheese is always a treat in the 2nd floor lounge and library space.

Lovely breakfast and wow -- wonderful wine and cheese at 5:00.

Where else in the City can you enjoy free wine and cheese in the evening.

The "Wine and Cheese" hour (from 17 to 20 hs) is a great idea to have a break & bite and know people.

We picked Hotel Elysee because it was quaint and offered a continental breakfast and wine and cheese in the early evening.

The buffet breakfast was good as was the cheese and wine every evening, and coffee and tea throughout the day in their relaxing lounge area.

The breakfast and the wine and cheese in the evening were catered by a group of very efficient and gentle women.

Very clean, charming, the club room was so convenient for coffee and snacks as needed.

The lovely attendant in the second floor club room always had a smile and a pleasant greeting  for the guests.

We also really enjoyed the "Club room"'s library -like feel with its great snacks anytime, plus morning breakfasts.

The Club Room was also very nice and again, the staff was top notch.

The Club Room is well appointed and I am currently sitting there drinking a free Diet Coke, using the fast Wi-Fi, and listening to classical music on the radio as I write this.

The "Club Room" was a comfort stop, especially with its early-morning pastries and coffee.

The club room, available all day to guests and offering a complimentary continental breakfast, is a comfortable and enjoyable amenity.

The hotel has old school glamour and charm and the staff was great too, especially Greg at the front desk and Erica in the Club Room.

Pleasantly surprised by the complementary wine and cheese served late afternoon in the cozy atmosphere of the Club Room by the most kind ladies.

I have stayed at The Elysee many times in the past and have always enjoyed the location, comfortable rooms and the excellent service the staff provides with always friendly smile.

The rooms are comfortable - I particularly like the queen room with balcony - and the availability of the lounge for a coffee or tea after a busy day is a nice feature too.

Under these circumstances, our room was as comfortable as ever, the health and safety precautions were everything we would hope for, and the welcome was as warm as ever.

While the elevator is a bit slow the service makes up for it

Elevator is called a lift and the 13th floor is labeled 12a.

The elevator is slow, which is to be expected.

The guest elevator was out of service- which I didn't initially mind- things break. .

Each day when we asked when the lift was going to be working, we were given vague responses.

Most concerning thing was that due to the lifts being slow, the guest use the fire escape staircase, and the hotel has tied the fire doors open.

but I think it is dishonest of them to wait until after you've checked in to disclose that the elevator is not working.

but no working passenger elevator, and terrible wifi are simply inexcusable. "

First, the hotel’s elevator was out for the entire stay - a fact that should have been disclosed to us before we checked in.

There is only one elevator and that meant we were constantly waiting for a an old and slow elevator.

The lift broke down several times during our stay so we had to use the service lift along with the poor staff trying to get on with their work.

This time we had a slight issue in checking in as I specifically had called to make the reservations requesting a room not near the elevators and one with a stall shower.

One minor irritant is the one elevator, which can take quite a while.

The only drawback is the hotel has only one elevator and it can get awfully slow to go up and down, particularly in rush hours.

Overall the hotel has the residential feel of a classic Manhattan apartment building with some of the drawbacks such as a single elevator.

Furthermore, it was a bonus to be able to have a lovely complimentary breakfast there, as well as drinks and snacks at our disposal throughout the day.

It offers great service, pretty decor and a wonderful location. I really hope they’ll consider resuming their generous wine/cheese happy hour and the complimentary breakfast service (abundant fresh fruit, juice and bagels, etc.)

They have a free breakfast each morning and free snacks 24 hours a day, which we definitely indulged in.

They have a free continental breakfast and all of the other guests are very friendly.

but with excellent staff and breakfast is included in the rate and served in the club room where from 5 pm to 8 ok wine and nibbles are also provided.

Add a great buffet breakfast and free wine and snacks each night, and you have a hotel in a prime location which is hard to beat.

Nice breakfast each morning complimentary and the room is open all day long for coffee and tea.

The staff is very friendly and genuine and the continental breakfast that was complimentary is the best one I’ve had in the city.

My only hesitation in recommending it more was the very slow internet connection- measured only 20 Mbps as my best speed over two days-luckily I was there on business!

but the service elevator was very slow, and in the morning it was being used for laundry, and- well, service- so it by-passed guests waiting.

Much has been said about the elevator- yes its slow and small.

We were forced to use the hotel’s ancient freight elevator, which was slow, ugly, hot and usually unavailable because it was (predictably) full of staff or repair people.

but here are 3 things I would change: temperature in club room was too warm for my tastes (other guests had similar comments), seating at peak times in club room was tight, and WiFi, although free, was slow.

Ask for earplugs if your room is on the front of the building, and expect slow elevator service at the times mentioned above,

You do need to allow time to ride the elevator is there is only 1 and it is old & slow.

The Monkey Bar is wonderful and we've long ago decided to consider the lone, slow elevator charming.

One VERY MINOR criticism is that the peer is on,y one elevator and it is slow.

Its an old style hotel, and yes, the lift is a bit slow.

We will come again , 
Only negatives are the elevator is slow and there is only one so if you are on a higher floor be prepared to wait .

There is only one lift and it was a little slow and crowded at morning rush hour.
