although noisy if it's fan was switched on.

but you have zero control of heat in your own room and there is NO air conditioning!

There is no heat in the rooms (no individual thermostats).

The only thing that I'm not a fan of is the lightning in the room.

We had one issue with the air con whereby we came back after a day out to the room being 40degrees and not being able to change it

We were told that air conditioning was available,

The A/C in our room was just BARELY keeping up with the heat and it was only mid-to-high 80's during our stay - this happens in older properties with older AC systems so it's not really a ding, more of an issue to keep in mind.

The aircon in this room was actually in pieces and not functional.

HOWEVER, they should not even be promoting that the hotel has air conditioning.

Only drawback would be there is no AC so I can see it getting very hot if you stayed in summer.

Room temperature was just hot, the thermostat didn't work.

We had to turn down the thermostat to 40 and leave the window opened all the time which finally brought the temperature down to 70,

Our air conditioner sounded like a diesel engine.

but the noise of the other rooms was awful and there is no fan system to drowned out the noise.

By dated I mean no outlets, old squeaky bedding with dips in the middle, unfriendly and unhelpful front desk staff.

I'd recommend using a shared airport shuttle (USD44/pax) to the hotel if you have large bags.

By the way, the hotel also charged some 81 cent or so at checkout since I used the hotel phone to make a call to the airport shuttle.

Subway only a few blocks away, and MSG/Penn Station also 10 minute walk away
42nd St port authority bus station only 2 minutes away, convenient if flying in and taking shuttle from airport as we were.

If you are taking a shuttle from the airport, just look for one that arrives in the Port Authority station, it is two long blocks from the hotel.

You just can't beat this location, 2 blocks from the Port Authority where we took the shuttle from the airport.

The young lady in the gift shop was helpful when I needed to arrange a shuttle back to the airport.

It’s a quick and easy walk to Times Square, many restaurants, CVS (right across the street), the subways and so many other popular locations.

Lots of places to eat nearby and CVS across the street.

and there was a 24 hour CVS across the street.

CVS right across the street was convenient for medication and food items.

Walking distance Javits Center with CVS around corner and multiple food choices all around.

There's a couple of different liquor stores and a small Food Emporium and a CVS super close, a couple of Starbucks close, TONS of places to eat (chain garbage if you go towards Times Square, of course,

CVS (with snacks & water) across the street.

Fortunately, the CVS across the street sells earplugs, which we stocked up on after the first night.

It's on a safe street with many restaurants nearby and a CVS across the street, cafe next door.

Hotel was in a great location - easy walk to subway and Times Square plus a CVS, diner, liquor store, and cleaners steps away made it SO convenient to make ourselves comfortable.

I loke this hotel because is very close to time square, like 4 blocks, you can go by walk, also you have a subway station, CVS and good restaurants in the same street.

CVS half a block up if you need something.

If you want to be in the middle of the action and right across the street from a very convenient 24-hour CVS, this is your place.

There's a CVS Pharmacy right across the street.

There is a grocery store, liquor store and CVS within 1/2 a block!

Though its walking distance to Times Square, it is quiet, with delis, markets, and CVS near.

There is a breakfast/deli place next door and a CVS drug store/convenience store on the corner.

There's also a CVS pharmacy opposite, which is handy for drinks and snacks.

Location was very good, close by restaurants and corner stores such as CVS 7/11 , Subway.

We booked this hotel based on location and price (around half as expensive as any other Manhattan hotels we could find).

I recommend Travel Inn for it’s location and price.

For a great price, I stayed a few blocks from Times Square and all the attractions there.

An added bonus was the great price for rooms!

but clean,well kept and for half the price of staying in Times Square 10 minutes away.

The location is very good for accessing all NYC has to offer and it is reasonably priced.

Front desk staff also organised transport to JFK for us that was big enough for all our luggage and at a fixed price.

We stayed four nights and it was fine for the price paid in comparison to the alternatives in the area.

The cheap price was reflected in a lack of care of the hotel’s aging rooms.

Another thing to note, it got a little noisy on one occasion as the rooms we had were facing the playboy club and there were police in the early hours dealing with some of the late crowds.

Our room smelled like cigarettes and was so noisy

but their room was st the front of the hotel so was fairly noisy , the bathroom rooms are badly in need of up dating and the tiling looked awful I’ve seen better in Egypt

Unfortunately on our last night we was woken to hear water dripping from the bathroom light, presumingly from the bathroom above us.

Only downside it can be a little bit noisy so just be aware.

My only faults is that there is a charge for wifi even in reception and the rooms are very warm at night - quiet loud when you open the window from the street side of hotel.

The price did not justify the smells or noise coming from the halls or the lack or help from the staff.

We travel there often and have stayed in many, usually disappointed with the room size, noise, staff, and other essentials.

but a real pain getting out, but then NYC traffic is always painful.

You could hear the people in rooms around us moving on their beds!

But I can't provide the full rating because of the following points:

The bed was rather small and noise if you move around at night so for two people it was not that comfortable.

The room next to ours was occupied by a loud visitor who, among other disturbances, played his electric guitar and electric keyboard at random hours of the night to the delight of his many drunken visitors, who sang along.

I awoke in the middle of the night and the noise wouldn't let me get back to sleep.

Next door deli offers good coffee 
If you want a quiet sleep ask for a room on the poolside (and do not expect the pool to be open)
WIFI is very slow and they charge an extra $ 6.00 per day for it :-(

But when I asked for the clerk to take off the charge, or even offer a discount, I started hearing about “our policy” and “what do you expect?”  I expect a bed I can sleep on, and I expected them to make good on the fact that it was in such poor condition.

but it still never cooled down, so even though it was in the 30s outside overnight, that air refused to enter the window and cool the room down.

We turned on the window ac to  cool it off and block out noise.

Their are also window AC units which are loud and not new and mini blinds with no curtains.

The air-conditioning is a window unit, its not modern,

Radiator made noise a lot and we had to place a towel over it to stop hissing .

Not to mention that it wouldn't heat the room and we were freezing!

Hotel itself was a bit dated and we had some trouble with the heating -either turn the radiator off and be cold or have it hissing at you all through the night.

The cleaning ladies left our windows open (hello it was snowing) and turned off the heater.

The metal pipe in bathroom that was for heating bit different and beyond hot to the touch

The old fashioned radiator made such a loud, banging noise that we had to turn it off just to sleep which meant we slept in the cold.

Because the air con units are in the window, there is no way of muffling the noise from the street and we got zero sleep on night 1 because of the constant horns.

First of all the negatives, shabby dated decor, low room at back noise comes from plant machinery is louder than room aircon machine.

but rattled sometimes but you needed it as the room soon got warm, good choice of tv channels 
Shower was hit and miss, and the room itself needs updating but a good size especially for Manhattan.

Beds were comfortable, air conditioning was a bit loud.

But its room only No tea/coffee making facilities or water provided I was on the 5th-floor front facing the road and it was like a hot house No A/c had to turn off the single rad and open the window for ventilation  which in turn brought the traffic noise into the room 24 /7 very basic small bathroom with a shower

Upsides- clean and plenty of storage, downsides there was only one plug in the whole room and the heating would not turn off - the air con unit was noisy and not great for getting to sleep.

The only drawback we experienced was the radiator making a horrible banging noise all night.

I left my bag and went to my meeting and retuned at 6pm.

If you want to leave your luggage after checking out, there are lockers at the lobby and there are different rates.

On check out the hotel has a locker to leave your luggage for up to 24 hours for $5 and the lockers take 2 suitcases.

There's also a place to leave the luggages and take them later.

They do offer lockers to leave your baggage at $5 for 24 hours, these lockers are excellent and will fit in 2 large cases and 2 hand laugage.

Room was ready upon arrival and had a midday checkout (bonus)  we left our luggage as we had a night flight.

The hotel was also very helpful on our last day by allowing us to leave luggage in one of their spare backroom cupboards!

We were suggested to leave the luggage free of charge in the back room,

The room was confortable, the staff was really friendly, they have lockers to left the luggage,

If you're like me, and the hotel is just a room to sleep, shower and leave your luggage then this will be perfect.

When we left we were helped generously with the storage of our luggage until we left at 17:00hrs!

There is left luggage lockers that will take 2 good sized suitcases each for $5 for 24 hours which is a good thing if you have to book out

but clean bathroom. Lockers for $5.00 to leave your luggage after or before you check in, this is my hotel from now on when in NYC, and thanks to Joey for the friendly service..:)

Our 'very good' might be your okay or worse, because our primary focus was location and price, and had no interest in any frills.

Our 2nd visit to New York & on a smaller budget so opted for this hotel based on price and location.

The price and location are perfect for a New York trip, as you will hardly spend any time at the hotel anyway.

I stayed at the Hotel St. James back in April and was blown away by the quality & location for this price!

We choose this hotel for our stay in New York as it's review's were decent so was the price and it's location.

For the price and location though, it was spot on for a short break.

Clean, rooms are good for the price and the location is fantastic literally 2min walk from Times Square.

The price of the room was fantastic, I was shocked to find such a good value in midtown Manhattan.

but listen, the room was reasonably priced, clean, and there was hot water in my updated bathroom.

Btw the price was REALLY good for Manhattan and 1 minute walk from time square.

Two of three rooms were ready and Joey allowed an early check in and waived the early check in fee that is customary at this hotel.

The hotel staff are friendly and there are no resort fees.

Pluses: good price, just steps to Times Square, friendly desk service, “old school” ambiance, good water pressure.

Please don't pay ANY attention to the few negative comments that have been made,its well worth a visit.

August 2022 Mother / Son NYC Trip
Listen, this is about my 15th trip to NYC, have I stayed at better hotels, yes, have I paid more money, yes, did I get a better value staying elsewhere, no - BUT this hotel was everything we needed.

We asked for a King size bed and we got one in a room far nicer than I was expecting given the great price and being literally around the corner from Times Square.

Hotel was great location - price was better than most in the area - room was small

but for a reasonable price, expect clean, comfortable, pretty quiet accommodations in a terrific location.

It was reasonably priced compared to others in the same location and the idea is to spend as little time in the hotel!

I selected it over other properties for its reasonable rates and its proximity to Times Square and the many sightseeing options in Manhattan.

The price is right and I plan to stay again during my next visit.

More affordable room rates in such an excellent location reflect the no frills room,

For the price you pay it was pretty dang good.

but it was a Saturday night, which is when most hotels are noisier and there was no internal sounds or disturbances from other folks.

Quite noisy as expected (this is New York after all) so bring ear plugs.

but the noise level from workers working all night outside of our room was insane.

but its an older hotel, but we didn't sweat it (LOL) it did the trick - and I can speak to the other hotel guests experience, but all hotel air units make noise, I wasn't bothered by it at all.

but the sound seemed to get worse - imagine if you were sitting under an enormous jet engine that was getting ready to take off.

but that also only worked on occasion so it’s possible it’s the power /sockets in rooms 
Beds are very old and make a lot of noise and you can feel the springs .

It made a high pitched squealing noise off and on all night!

Mine has bluetooth and I ran a white noise app from my phone to drown out noise as well,

We were given a 5th floor room at the front of the hotel and I have to admit it was noisy with the road below.

As other reviewers have said, the bed DOES make a ridiculous noise when you sit on it,

I got the impression that the staff weren’t overly enamoured at my request - we were even told it hadn’t been that noisy!

I recommend staying on the 4th floor or higher and away from the street so you don’t hear the street noise early in the morning.

Easy access to everything with times square at the end of the street and going in the other direction was great as you come across alot more things to see & shopping, check out was also an easy process & great that you can store your luggage in a secure room if your leaving later than you check out time, overall great experience & would highly recommend this hotel & I would definitely stay here again

You can't beat the location, steps from Times Square.

We were about a half a block off Times Square and within walking distance to countless tourist sites.

The hotel is about 2 blocks (or less) from Times Square, 4 blocks from Grand Central Terminal, and walking distance from the Empire State Building.

The hotel was just a few steps from Times Square.

although small was bigger than I thought it would be and the hotel was one minute away from Times Square.

The hotel is in a great location, close to Times Square

Excellent location, almost in Times square with warm staff & clean spaces makes this a great choice.

The hotel is in the perfect place for exploring mid town Manhattan ,it just around the corner from Times Square.

Perfectly placed in walking distance to Time Square and many other must see locations when visiting New York!

Right around Times Square, right on the doorstep to everything you need in NYC!

I will say it was a great location and was within walking distance to Times Square and theaters and other things we wanted to do.

The historic building is beautiful and a great location near Time Square and Broadway shows.

This was a block off of Times Square and surrounded by restaurants.

It is located 1 minute walking distance to time square.

Restaurants, Time Square, Grand Central Station, all in walking distance.

The location is very close to times square and walkable distance to many attractions.

Lifts seemed like they were about to give up, very old and walls of the lift covered with old velvet type curtains.

We barely slept due to the window unit A/C.

Our window overlooked another hotel or an apartment of some sort which we didn’t particularly like

Since my last visit, both the rooms we were in had newer, darker wood blinds, which was an improvement from the white mini-blinds from prior trips.

The windows have wood blinds that can't do absolute darkness

but what we were after as didn't spend much time in the room, would recommend they get curtains as the blinds in room were old and didn't work properly and let light in at night time.

My only recommendation is to add curtains to the windows to reduce the light coming in and open up that bar in the lounge area.

The windows do not block any street noise so bring earplugs to go to sleep.

I needed to do a bit of engineering on the blinds to stop the dressmaking room across from us seeing into the room and at night we had to run the hot water for at least 5 minutes before we got hot water enough to shower.

They could use some curtains, the blinds weren’t in good shape.

There are no curtains, blackout or otherwise.

The windows were only single glazed and it sounded like they were open
