The hotel has free wine and cheese in the lobby around 5ish every day

The hotel also has a daily Wine and Cheese hour from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with crackers, cheeses, and very good wine.

Big thanks to Gilbert who took care of us and we met Dee later for their wine and cheese which was nice touch to decompress after.

They also had a nice lounge area, with a happy hour Wine and Cheese tasting at 5PM.

The daily cheese and wine hour in the second floor lounge was an added bonus.

Free continental breakfast every morning, wine & cheese from 4-5 daily, & even a bottle of wine delivered to our room because it was my birthday.

we always had enough to do us , in the breakfast room between        4 +6pm there was wine, cheese, fruit and nuts etc, nice to put your feet up after a lot of walking ! !

But I admit I loved the free snacks from 4-5pm each day - cheese and crackers, fruits and veggies, decent wine.

All the theatres are within walking distance and there are plenty of decent eating places nearby The staff were all extremely friendly and very helpful.We especially loved the afternoon cheese and wine which was very welcome after a busy day sightseeing.Breakfast was also very good,no hot food

The complimentary cheese and wine hour in the afternoon, and the crisps & snacks all freely available, were a really nice touch.

The continental buffet breakfast was just perfect to set you up for the day, and the cheese and wine afternoon was a lovely touch.

The cheese and wine afternoons are a nice touch and an opportunity to relax before the evening.

but the cheese and wine hour was great as a meeting point for our group.

There was also a social noir with complimentary wine from 5-6.

Complimentary breakfast included pastries, fruit, hard-boiled eggs, bagels, toast, English muffins, yogurt, coffee, and tea.

My husband and I also enjoyed the complimentary wine hour in the evening.

A complimentary breakfast and wine hour were such a nice treat.

Complimentary refreshment bar behind reception, where you can get free tea/coffee/water/cookies/crisps.

First time staying at this hotel; pleasantly surprised with the little extras such as complimentary continental breakfast.

Staff can't do enough to help, continental breakfast and complimentary happy hour are such a bonus, snacks on offer too, even late at night they leave out crisps and fruit to help yourself.

Complimentary wine in the evenings too whuch myself and my husband enjoyed.

We loved the hotel, it’s location, the people who worked there, the size of the room, individual AC controls, cleanliness, the wine and cheese hour in the evening, and complimentary snacks and fresh fruit in the lobby was also nice.

Everyone who works here has been kind and accommodating, the complimentary breakfast, coffee and snacks were fantastic to have.

Pretty happy for my short stay in this real beautiful pearl of big Apple, from the hotel design to accommodation just prefect, the cold water, snack & Apples in hotel lobby just heartwarming , from variety complimentary breakfast, to the microwave to coffee machine in room , truly hospitality, I misses the 4 pm free afternoon tea time in the second floor too, despite my room next to the elevator, I still could slept like a baby , truly appreciated!

And complimentary breakfast 😋 and they had almond milk!!! !

On arrival we were upgraded, and a complimentary bottle of champagne left in our room.

The deduction of a half star is because 3 days out of four we had to phone housekeeping as we didn’t have any shower towels, or only one, or the tea/coffee capsules hadn’t been replenished or the first morning the fridge wasn’t plugged in.

Long story short the tech guy had to make some tweaks to get me on a "fast lane" which ended up being an abysmal 2.5Mbps download speed (my phone is MUCH faster than that): tech support mentions this is the expected average speed one can expect for the internet service level at this hotel.

Unfortunately we did not receive a call so it was lucky my daughter had set an alarm on her phone as a back up.

It would have cost a fortune to pay for those urgent calls if they had charged us for them.

They took my cell phone number so as to call me when our room would be available, and we left to have some lunch.

but had to call at 2AM to get couch made up.

but did not get the call we requested when the room was ready.

While other places were trying to rush me off the phone, or emphasize that I had to pay for additional services, I was pleasantly surprised that the Pearl were much easier to talk to. I spoke to Joseph at the time and

Was not sure it would live up to the positive reviews on Tripadvisor based on my reservation experience (not very welcoming and rates quoted over the phone were higher than their online site and Expedia/TripAdvisor),

We never received a phone call and we arrived back at the hotel at 3:30.

Hotel offers 3 room service choices, 1 is the hotel restaurant, the other 2 are external restaurants that deliver, it's worth knowing because it's not clear on the menu & you need to pay by credit card over the phone or cash on delivery, it can't be charged to the room.

They didn't tell us the wifi pass code - we had to call down to the front desk to get it.

While I was on the phone with the cab driver, I saw that same doorman putting some of our bags into a black car's trunk (definitely not a taxi).

The person on the phone refused to tell me, he said that I would get that information upon check in.

They Guy who answered the phone was very rude, twice, Both times he stated he had nothing that we were asking for

The one improvement that could be made would be to have proper cutlery and crockery rather than plastic cutlery.

My other complaint is the reliance on single use plastic - all the plates, cutlery, cups etc for breakfast were plastic and all went into bins and not sorted for recycling.

I think it would be better if they didn't have breakfast rather than put all that plastic into the garbage every day.

The dark brown plastic plates and cutlery which one throws out after use were certainly not appealing.

Wasn't a fan of the disposable plastic plates, bowls, cups and cutlery.

though were as follows:
- the breakfast, while adequate, was always crowded, tough to find a seat, and frankly everything being on disposable plastic plates was not up to standard.

but the plastic plates & cutlery are the one negative.

The cheese and wine is over hyped,and could be improved by serving the wine in glasses instead of plastic ones for starters and how about some social interaction from members of staff .

Breakfast is nice for some reason they do not give out proper cutlery and crockery and just have plastic which is a bit random.

however, it made a clicking or popping noise (it sounded like the plastic casing around the vent) in about one second increments every time it turned on.

The one thing I really think could be an improvement is to discontinue the use of disposable plastic plates, cups and cutlery.

),  limited cereals, no hot selection at all,  cheap plastic cutlery and plastic plates, cups and bowls, no trays so you are forever going back and forth and waiting in line.

though we could see attempts had been made to attach some plastic to the edge it makes me think that perhaps we weren't the only people to do this, so maybe it needs a more permanent solution.

The only oddity was that this was all served on plastic throwaway plates and cutlery.

So much plastic waste being generated. Bad:
Nothing!

Fortunately, we took precautions and left our clothes and bags in the garage until we could have them properly  cleaned. I would recommend anyone staying here to look carefully at the mattress before unpacking and to keep your clothes sealed in plastic bags (we did not do any of this, unfortunately!)

although very American by which I mean basic help-yourself breakfast items with paper plates and plastic cutlery.

but no one is supposed to serve you at the breakfast area, and they use only disposable plastic plates and cups, or paper cups . .

Given the cost of the room, they provided plastic (yes, plastic) cups for wine and only one very small tray of fruit (one tray that was never replenished).

With WiFi, breakfast and snack bar included in the resort fee, this was great value for money.

They have an area on the second floor for free snacks, coffee and fruit.

The 24 hour cafe with coffee/tea and snacks was well used!

We especially loved their wine reception each day and the ability to GRAB SNACKS for 24 hours a day in a room we all have access too.

There’s even a snack room with 24 hour access to coffee, tea, cookies, and chips.

In addition, it has a 24/7 snack bar which was heaven sent upon our arrival at 1:30 in the morning; the bar has bananas, apples, cookies of all kinds, chips, coffee, variety of teas, and hot chocolate.

The 24-hour snacks were great too, and we helped ourselves to a hot chocolate or tea plus snacks after a long day of sightseeing.

The service was terrific and the amenities provided for guests were above and beyond other hotels - happy hour every day, fresh fruit and snacks available all day for guests and the breakfast at Friedman’s was great.

Snacks available during the day such as fruit, coffee and cookies.

Light continental breakfast and 24/7 snacks as well as 2nd floor gathering space was excellent fit for our blended family.

The breakfast and all day snacks in the lounge is a really nice touch.

Staff very friendly and our kids loved the snacks and fruit that were always available in reception along with the iced water.

Let's look at the Pros first: 
Great Location - close to Times Square, 1 minute from Subway stop, 
Great Staff - pleasant, helpful, always available, asked for more towels, asked for help with TV, offered upgrade as room became available  
Snacks in the lobby available on check in/check out - chips, fruit, lemon water
Wine Reception at 5 - didn't partake,

The daily free happy hour at the 2nd floor lobby with wine and snacks is also fun before starting your evening activities.

The hotel offers a wine/cheese hour and coffee and breakfast snacks in the morning.

Coffee and snacks were available 24 hours per day, and we LOVED the free wine and cheese hour.

Very big rooms, friendly knowledgeable and helpful staff and nice touches, such as l’occtaine  products in the bathroom, a lounge with free soft drinks and snacks and free wine and cheese daily.

My only complaint, and it's kind of a big one, they use plastic dishes and cutlery, and they don't recycle.

No cutlery or bottle opener in kitchenette.

Small veggie tray and cheese - the celery and carrots were old and I'm surprised they were put out.

One tiny little niggle, I was a little disappointed at, the fact that they use throw away plates, cutlery etc at breakfast!

but very limited and served with disposable plates.

The breakfast was a self service continental which included stale pastries and was eaten off grotty brown plastic plates with matching brown plastic cutlery,hence we only ate there once.

They do have Room Service through the adjoining restaurant, so should coordinate them running these two food services and use their dishes as well.

The breakfast was bit disappointing, being only continental and disposable plates and utensils.

Breakfast was a let down with disposable plates and utensils.

Our room was just right, and we chose valet parking, which was the best option.

Parking by valet was easy and reasonably priced.

Can not say enough good things about our stay from the moment we walked through the doors to getting our car from valet parking when we left.

The staff was welcoming and helpful and the parking valet made for a smooth entrance.

Just try to find another Times Square hotel with great location, plus free breakfast, free Wi-Fi, fitness center, concierge, door man, valet or self parking next door, free fruit/water in lobby 24/7, free wine hour every night, robes, name brand toiletries and the list goes on.

Valet parking made driving into the city easy.

Nice breakfast, a wine and cheese happy hour, a friendly and helpful staff, a large room for New York hotels, upscale furnishings and linens in the room, and valet parking all made for a great stay.

Valet parking was easy and there were lots of parking garages if you desire to park your own car.

For those driving into town, the hotel can valet park or you can self park at Central Parking just one block up on 50th.

Front desk staff is very helpful, and also those helping with luggage, valet parking and room cleaning.

We used the valet parking which was quick and easy.

If there is any downside to the room design, it's that the bathroom doors have glass windows in them.

While the room had plenty of square footage, the configuration of the bathroom door, bedroom door and closet door was a bit awkward.

The rooms are very comfortable ~ the only two things I wasn’t crazy about was only one person can fit in the bathroom at a time unless one in the shower because of the door, the toilet paper was on the wall & hard to turn & reach so put the extra bear in a cubby.

If I have to find anything to complain about, and this is minor, the window in the bathroom door is a bit strange.

Also, there is a glass window on the bathroom door for some reason!

1) The bathroom doors feature frosted glass.

My only criticism is that the bathroom door does not provide the privacy I prefer since the glasses is see-thru,

Minor negatives: 1) window in the bathroom door: despite textured glass, you can definitely make out if someone is dressed or not.

Con - the only con was the bathroom door was a beveled glass.

The only "weakness" of the hotel is the bathroom door have a translucent window so there is a little lack of privacy.

The teen found the frosted glass window in the bathroom door a little disconcerting

As others have commented, the bathroom door had a frosted pane of glass and there was no extractor fan, which may bother some.

but definitely looked it, and the bathroom door was more or less see through.

Our only complaint is the glass window in the bathroom door and therefore, lack of towel hooks.

but I believe they would have brought you one),  The bathtub in our room was weirdly small - low to the ground for someone who may want to take a bath, and while I loved the bathroom door with the beveled glass, my daughter was a little freaked out that we could see her using the facilities (no one was watching).

The only things that could be improved are the bathroom doors, which don't close well, and the air vents in the bathrooms, which are a bit small for their purpose.

but the bathroom door opened and block the shower so that was awkward.

Decor was very generic, it  was impossible to shut bathroom door without walking sideways, outlets near bed for charging were not easily accessible, and there was no television in the bedroom of the suite.

I plan events myself and always negotiate a good price for buying wine and cheese in bulk.

We missed the evening wine and cheeses offering - it was such a nice treat following a day touring and walking around the city.

Yes, as we were informed during boking,  they stopped the afternoon wine & cheese, and the variety in the morning was slightly reduced.

I am hopeful that the Happy Hour wine and cheese is brought back soon, understandable given Covid.

The accommodating  and responsive staff, including Gabriela, Gaby and the others made up for the elimination of the happy hour wine and cheese and the continental breakfast.

Your lady who serves wine and cheese during happy hour is outstanding.

The breakfast is fantastic and the evening wine and cheese always a nice perk.

The cheeses were high quality, served with crackers and fruit.

Great lower Park Avenue location, nice size quiet room with yummy soft sheets, wonderful lobby serving wine and cheese in the early evening, a delicious breakfast in the morning, and Expresso all day!

Excellent service, excellent room, lots of extras provided like free tea, coffee, wine, cheese, biscuits, breakfast, all in an excellent location on Park Avenue South.

Wine and cheese in the late afternoon and a good continental breakfast in the morning are just two of the little touches that make staying here a very pleasurable experience.

We enjoyed the wine and cheese in the evening and the breakfast in the mornings.

There's a simple breakfast in the morning, wine and cheese in the evening, and cookies and coffee the rest of the time with a very nice lobby to enjoy it all.

The cheese and wine from 5-8 was a delight, slumping in to the comfy chairs in the lobby after a long day exploring.

Cheeses and crackers, with olives and nuts were the perfect nibbles.

That includes service, cleanliness, location, complimentary breakfast and afternoon wine/ cheese and more.

The lovely Gabriella is there daily serving wine, cheese and biscuits from 5-8, You only have to sit down and a drink is there - Gabriella remembers everyone’s drink, which is a nice touch.

but plenty in the area AND Giraffe has wine and cheese from 5 - 7 p.m.

Great service, beautifully decorated, comfortable rooms, lovely lobby for breakfast, lounging, early evening wine and cheese, location.

I appreciated the complimentary snacks and beverages in the lobby.

I didn't eat the complimentary breakfast,

but there's a nice complimentary breakfast and a connected restaurant (which I didn't visit).

It's difficult to find spacious and elegant and clean in NYC, as well as complimentary beverages & snacks,

GREAT location, continental breakfast and complimentary fruit & Cliff Bars all day long, great pillows, and HUGE room (we stayed in the corner King Suite with Juliette Balcony).

We enjoyed the complimentary snacks downstairs.

The complimentary soft drinks and snacks available 24/7 from the lobby were a nice touch.

A light snacks bar with complimentary snacks is a good touch.

I loved the little touches like complimentary umbrellas in the lobby when it was raining outside.

The complimentary breakfast is a big bonus and the Bread and Tulip restaurant serves a great menu.

The lobby lounge area had plenty of comfy seating group areas and we especially enjoyed and indulged the complimentary snacks of fresh fruit, chips and Cliff bars.

Also the complimentary waters and the cappuccino maker in the lobby were very nice, along with the Cliff bars.

There is a very nice complimentary coffee area with fruit, snacks, water, and a great espresso/cappuccino machine.

We looked forward to the complimentary Happy Hour and breakfast in the luxurious dining lounge.

The rooms are spacious, the complimentary breakfast tasty, and the staff incredibly friendly and helpful.

The complimentary breakfast and wine & cheese hours were an added benefit to staying at this very nice little hotel.

The complimentary breakfast and happy hour are a nice touch.

The welcoming and always smiling staff, the charming and attentive hospitality, complimentary breakfast, wine and cheese reception, and all day refreshments all add up to one of the finest luxury hotel experiences anywhere.

At night the rooms were very dark (dark blinds) and the noise was not excessive.

The living room looked out into a dark ventilation shaft and as a result was very dull and depressing in the day time (see photo).

There was a motorized screen that blocked the entire balcony window area so that the room was dark for sleeping.

Hard to get dressed for  a big night in the dark.

This was a small dingy hotel with maybe 8 rooms per floor, a small dark central corridor, terribly lighting.

The attached living room was slightly dark and void of natural light

Empire state Bldg at dark, then finished off at the Library Hotel, another sister hotel for their social hour.

though a bit dark, dark painted  walls,inner facing windows in the suite section.

but there  are:   (1) It is quite  "tired"  and in need of  renovating as rooms  are dark, furnishing  a bit old and the corridors  decidedly  gloomy.

For starters, I prefer a room to be three things - cold, dark and quiet.

The lighting in the room was a bit dark especially if you wanted to read.

We initially got a very dark and sad suite (which we actually had booked),

The only complaint we have is that the room was so dark and the light insufficient.

If i had to think of a con it would be the dark hallways on the guest floors.

but she had short dark hair and I'd guess is originally from Eastern Europe) was so attentive and kept us topped up!!

The only comment I’d make is that the room was dark even with the lights on and we couldn’t raise the window shade in the sitting room as we looked directly into an office window.

Overall this was a good  base for exploring Manhattan.

The hotel is perfectly located for about anything you might want to do or see in Manhattan.

A relatively undiscovered gem in a lovely area of Manhattan.

Overall this was one of our very best Manhattan hotel stays over the years, and we would definitely stay here again.

The staff were very attentive, helping with extra blankets in January, arranging a can and the hotel is very quiet for a Manhattan hotel.

The rooms are very nice, and having doors that open to a small balcony is a rare find in Manhattan.

The price point was terrific, for a Manhattan hotel.

Great location very easy to explore Manhattan from here.

Hotel Giraffe maintains its standard of excellence as our go-to hotel in Manhattan.

Cons: costly, even by Manhattan standards.

The Hotel Giraffe offered a warm, comfortable place to stay right in the heart of Manhattan.

It was beautifully appointed, the service was fantastic across the board and the hotel is perfectly located in Manhattan for easy access to anything in the city.

The Hotel Giraffe is quickly becoming our go-to for short trips into Manhattan.

The location is walking distance to a wide range of shopping, theater and activities, and if you hop on the train around the corner in Madison Square (lots of overlapping and connecting lines) you can get practically anywhere in Manhattan in half an hour.

I feel grateful to have found a home away from home in manhattan.

We have stayed at the Hotel Giraffe several times and it remains our go-to hotel in Manhattan.

Mid-town Manhattan has literally hundreds of hotels, and many of them are truly great.

It is so pleasant to have a light breakfast and read the paper in the morning, surrounded by bustling Manhattan and yet feeling like you are in your own home.
