The only flaw I could find is the lack of an elevator, if you’re located on the last floors is not optimal.

Chelsea Pines has five floors and no elevator so I requested and was given a first floor room just before the breakfast area.

No elevator, cafe tables in the rear courtyard.

That there was no elevator was known up front.

We were on the first floor which was ok and did not need an elevator.

The toilets are tiny and uncomfortable
- Accessibility - the listing says “no elevator”, what they don’t tell you is that you will need to climb to the 5th floor in a narrow and steep staircase
- Breakfast - there is NO breakfast (although they advertise it as “breakfast included”).

The one limit for some people is that there is no elevator.

There’s no elevator, which may bother some travelers (although I didn’t care), and steps at the entrance may make access difficult – if not impossible – for handicapped visitors.

DId not realize this is a walk up so no elevators.

Friendly staff. A few steps from subway A, E, C, less than 2 blocks from High Line, within walking distance from both One World Trade Centre and Time Square (about 40, 30 mins resp.)

The staff was also very friendly and knowledgeable of the surrounding area giving good tips on where to go and eat.

Great place to stay in NYC - centrally located, very close to subway, quick uber ride to everything!

The staff were unfailingly courteous and helpful, the suite was blessedly cool in August, very large and essentially an apartment with a lovely garden  terrace.

We were in town for a conference, the CPI team was very helpful and accommodating.

A five-story walk up in stairs that look like they will fall apart, barely could get my suitcase up.

Unexpected and greatly appreciated as we both have bad knees and had to tackle the stairs.

but be sure you can climb a few flights of stairs!

Getting up the stairs was a bit of a slog and I would have loved coffee in my room.

It would be very ,very, very  nice to have coffee makers in the room or even on each floor so that you don’t have to go down 3, 4, or 5 flights of stairs (and back up again) just  for a cup of coffee.

We had the Rock Hudson room on the 5th floor - we knew there was no elevator, the stairs were a bit tiring, especially after all the walking and subway stairs we did on Saturday.

is a real inconvenience and certainly none of the staff helps you to carry the bags up and down the steep stairs.

The Inn is a classic “walk-up” brownstone, so be prepared to get a workout since the rise of the stairs are a bit steep.

When walking up the stairs, I had to rest ion every floor.

I can deal with climbing stairs, although not my favorite thing to do,

The up is you don't have to climb all the stairs - the down is that you can hear people having breakfast if you want a sleep in.

however that there are no elevators in the building, and depending on where your room is located, you may have to walk up quite a fair bit of stairs.

The staff are friendly and carried my suitcase up the stairs since there is no elevator.

And, don't kid yourself, those stairs are hard work as they're small and steep.

The only drawback is there is no elevator so if stairs are a problem for you then you might want to let them know.

There is a short corridor no longer than 5 metres in length to which when reading other reviews I would be the cause to which people referring to the hotel being of dark feel.

The hotel is indeed quite dark and the rooms are rather small

Actually this couldn’t be further from the truth, the hotel is dark, dingy, rooms are extremely small with no natural light (unless your facing the street), the rooms have no separate bathroom, only a curtain separates this from the bedroom.

Great location, entrance is poorly lit and labeled, corridors are dark and lobby is frequently filled with restaurant/club patrons.

This hotel is difficult to find due to construction.Very poor signage.even our driver had difficulty finding the hotel .Our room was advertised as a double,double with breakfast included.The passageway are very dark and poorly lit.Our room was very small that we could not both try to get into bed at the same time .I banged my shins on the end of the bed countless times .The bathroom door.

This hotel is only a short walk to the subway and only a couple blocks from Broadway and theaters.The one negative thing I would say is that the hallways are somewhat dark for ambience so if you have poor eyesight that could be a problem.

It’s almost like they keep your room dark so you don’t notice it.

My first contact was with Raychel who replied to my email requesting help / advice in arranging our transport from Port Bayonne to the Sanctuary Hotel.

Throughout the stay the house keeping team were amazing to which I cannot fault at all.

Sanctuary and their staff are OUT OF THIS WORLD.

The wardrobe was a tiny cupboard with a rail and a curtain, the shower, toilets and sink were part of the room with a curtain that you could pull across privacy, nowhere to put your clothes, or hang your coats!

The bathroom is separated by a curtain (the toilet has its own door).

Even with the curtains open, it’s very dark.

but there is a curtain that can be drawn for privacy if you wish.

However that said & with sleeping with the window open of our bedroom no sound could be heard from all the busy city life.

but the shower and another sink are separate and only a foot or 2 from the bed, separated via a curtain you draw.

We kept the curtain closed cos looked out to fire escape and for privacy.

We didn’t really have space for our luggage and very little space to put clothing, toiletries etc and no window to see out at all only thing going for this hotel is the location close toTime Square.

The only thing I would say is we didn’t have a view from our room number 410 it was a wall we looked onto from both windows which was the only downside.

The bathroom was tiny and is only seperated by a curtain from the main area.

3 stars because the rooms are extremely small, and I agree, not much view from the windows.

Absolutely no natural lighting, the shower is covered by a cheap flimsy drape.

We had a deluxe king and it was small with a very unusual set up of the shower being behind a curtain in the bedroom.

I think my only suggestion would be the entrance hall reception and lift area really need brightening up with different decorations as they felt dark and the rain mats need replacing - almost the first thing I saw when I walked in and I thought “oh no it looks tired” I wondered what the room would be like.

There elevator is dark and I’m not a fan of elevators anyway so that is a little challenging for me.

All blinders have a gap on each of their sides which means that the room is never dark.

I've seen several reviews mention the small dark elevators and while they're not huge, they really didn't make me anxious (and I don't love elevators).

the elevators are beyond small and they are dark and creepy.

Elevators are dark and small and paneled in red pleather.

There are shades on the windows instead of black-out curtains, so the room doesn't get completely dark, and given the location you can expect outside noise.

However ,  inside elevator was very dark, barely to see .

The elevator was a bit too dark for my own taste  - it had red dim lights.

My only complaint is that the elevator is very dark.

but a warning the elevators are a little bit dark.

Our bedroom was quite small , the elevators were so dark you can’t see when in them, no nice place to hang out for breakfast or just lounging.

The only thing I don’t understand is, Why are the lifts SO DARK?!? !

Also, the elevators are dark with red overhead lights and the walls were covered in red leather with some thumping electronica playing.

Now for the weird things:

You get in the elevator, and it's very dark, and all they have are two small red lights.

The only thing we did not like is the color of the carpet as it made the room looked dark.

Less positive was the slow service at breakfast and no gluten free bread, the outside noise I could hear from the room wasn’t flash and the main hotel bar (although served good drinks) was underground and really dark.

if you're claustrophobic beware - why on earth do they need to be so dark? !

Fantastic hotel and in the best location on Bryant Park, all the staff were incredibly friendly with a special mention to Jo at the front desk who looked after us with some great advice.

Everyone was super friendly, cool vibe and we got lucky that are room was available early.

From the staff to the management, the service has been impeccable.

In general it was really scruffy looking, with scuffed walls and woodwork and peeling wallpaper.

We had a cleaning issue (splatters on the wall) when we first arrived

I can't hear my neighbors through the walls

but it was old and tired with scratched up wood floors, cracks and peeling paint on walls and ceilings, and furniture that was beaten up.

the mismatched leather furniture had stains on it ( I am pretty sure the substance would be revealed had we had a black light ) - the table had water ring stains and the walls were kind of banged up.

I was laying in bed looking up at what I thought was a textured wall only to discover that it wasn't textured

Also the plug sockets are not well designed to put non-US plug adaptors in - they fall out of the wall and the two USBs by the bed are just not enough!

We overlooked a wall and roof which contained the air con unit.

They should not have wall paint in direct contact with shower water in the first place, might get issues later.

However, the walls between rooms in the hotel are paper thin and you do hear a lot of the other rooms doors banging and expect to hear every word of the conversation taking place in the room next door!

The shower head is the same height of me and is close to the wall.

although very cold, with white naked walls and basic furniture and basic queen bed.

but the walls were white and there was just a general lack of decorations.

To me that feels a lot cleaner than wall to wall carpets.

There were 3 of them on 2 walls, which let in a ton of light and made the room even brighter and more appealing.

The walls were plain white paint, and there wasn't any decoration to speak of.
