This is a REAL bed and breakfast with actual home-cooked food with fresh ingredients.

This is a traditional bed and breakfast experience distinctively different from an AirB&B stay.

My husband and I stayed at this amazing bed and breakfast for two nights.

I can't say enough wonderful things: the location is perfect in Mid-City, walking distance to City Park, 3 min walk to the street car, tons of great restaurants walking distance, beautiful house, comfortable and charming room, delicious breakfasts and two sweet dogs to pet.

There are a lot of great restaurants in the area, and we were close to City Park.

Fantastic location, close to the Canal Street Streetcar line and within walking distance of City Park.Also lots of cafes and restaurants within walking distance.

Initially I selected O'Malley House due to its proximity to City Park.

City park is very close for a run or just a stroll through the beautiful sculpture garden.

It's close to City Park and some great restaurants.

Located in a quiet residential neighborhood within walking distance from City Park and Cemeteries.

We stayed here based on the location near city park and Katie's restaurant and bar.

As it is place close to the city park it is easy to reach by car and offers good opportunities for running as well as for taking a nice walk in the park.

but in a very pleasant location near city park and the museums.

It is conveniently located on the trolley system, there are good restaurants in the neighborhood, it is within walking distance of the City Park and art museum.

City Park is also close, and that's well worth a few hours of leisurely strolling.

It is also near City Park and the Museum of Art.

The B&B is near City Park, which is really nice, and it was interesting to tour the nearby Lakeview area, which is rebuilding it's charming neighborhood post Katrina.

Equally pretty close to City Park too for other NO attractions.

This B&B had been recommended to us by family who had stayed there, and this place actually exceeded their rave reviews!

Larry (owner) and Brent (manager) are so welcoming and accommodating, they truly make us feel like family.

My family came in from Connecticut and we took over the entire house for a weekend.

Both Larry and Brent treat you like family and go out of their way to help you.

I cannot say enough about Brent and Larry - they made us feel like very welcome guests, as if we were family.

All 11 of our family were terrifically accommodated in this fantastic B and B!!

You are truly made to feel like family when you are staying here.

but this is just another example of how Brent blames everything on someone else.

You can ignore them if  you like (they won't bother you),

If not for his call, we would have missed our entire weekend (the mix up was entirely my fault).

I say it's my fault because I off-handedly said that I did not need the bed made;

Had we asked for a different room we have NO DOUBT we would have been accommodated, and it's our fault we didn't.

Something to consider when making reservations anywhere in New Orleans

Brent is always helpful in providing information and suggestions for planning your day in New Orleans.

Although I don't know if we will ever visit New Orleans again, I do know that we would definitely  book another stay at 1896 O'Malley House without hesitation.

Would definitely return if we have the opportunity to travel to New Orleans again!

We rode our bikes everywhere; New Orleans is a “silver” bicycle friendly community.

Our host, Brent served delicious breakfasts each morning, and gave us wonderful recommendations and information about New Orleans, including a great place to eat just two blocks away at Mandina's.

The owner is super friendly and gives you loads of advice of what to see and do and initiated really appreciated dialogues during breakfast.

We were given wonderful recommendations to start our days and then allowed the city to guide us the rest of the way.

Their daily recommendations were spot on for areas to visit, restaurants, and activities.

Matt and Mel were lovely, as well as providing a nice breakfast and fresh coffee each morning they offered lots of advice to help make the most of our stay.

The breakfasts were different every day, with curated goodies and their background provided with a dose of good company and good advice.

They had incredible recommendations that we utilized throughout our trip.

Matthew and Melanie were awesome hosts and have the best recommendations for places to go and food to try.

His recommendations took us off the well trodden paths and into the funkier and more genuinely odd places in what is already a town with some well rounded off corners.

We enjoyed the sculpture garden at City Park, watched the marathon run past us, saw the fancy houses of the Garden District from the historic cable car, and listened to the talented Antoine at Buffa's, all based on their advice.

They pride themselves on tailor-making the perfect trip for you, whether it is the items being offered at breakfast or recommendations for activities, restaurants, music, etc.

We enjoyed all the things M&M suggested and couldn’t have had better advice or guidance our first time in Nola.

We LOVE this place for so many reasons—proximity to the French Quarter, Frenchman, City Park, consistently great restaurants like Cafe Degas, romantic private patios, delicious curated breakfasts…But, ultimately, every single time Matthew and Melanie help make your stay in NOLA an adventure you could not have had if you stayed ANYWHERE else.

La Belle Esplanade was located within walking distance to the French Quarter and to City Park.

Halfway between the French Quarter and City Park (and walkable to both) the Inn and the two buildings surrounding it form an iconic view of New Orleans.

Close to so many things to see like city park.

The neighborhood is charming, with a beautiful mix of homes, halfway between The French Quarter and City Park.

The building itself is located right between City Park and The French Quarter - close enough to walk to everything.

Located on a lovely street within walking distance of City Park.

Because of the location, we walked to the City Park one day and to the French Quarter the next.

It’s in Treme I’d say halfway between Louis Armstrong Park and City Park, quite walkable to either.

but major street where you can almost walk to any tourist attraction, the French Quarter, City park, Luis Armstrong Park, Frenchman Street, to the grand Market District and more.

We really appreciated all their insight into places to eat and things to do in New Orleans that weren’t overrun by tourists (one of our favorite afternoons was spent walking up from the inn to City Park, checking out to colorful houses along the way).

La Belle Esplanade is perfectly positioned between the French Quarter and City Park in a relatively quiet  residential area.

However, a pleasant walk of about one mile will get you to the French Quarter in one direction or to City Park in the other.

The inn is in a great neighborhood with easy access to the French Quarter and City park, and very close to bus lines and rental bikes.

but near enough to both the French Quarter and City Park to make for interesting walks to both places.

We cherished the morning conversations with our hosts where they shared  tips and tricks to help make our days exploring more enjoyable.

And the best parts of our stay were daily conversations with Melanie and Matthew.

I hope to be able to return someday for more delicious, local breakfasts and more conversations with Matthew.

The conversation is also excellent and you never leave feeling you've been too long.

The breakfasts are not to be missed with a wonderful selection of local cuisine and interesting, thoughtful, and funny conversation with the hosts and other guests.

Matthew and Melanie are the most gracious hosts and the breakfast conversations are just the thing to get the day started.

Hand picked from local businesses every morning, excellent coffee, juice, purified/filtered water from a Berkey and great conversation with the owners.

Spacious suites, comfortable beds, a delicious European style breakfast with food items from various local shops is nestled in a color and cozy dining room fostering conversation with other guests as well as the proprietors.

We were greeted every morning with a smile, nice breakfast and great conversation.

The witty and informative conversation in the morning is a great way to begin the day.

Melanie is incredibly friendly and gracious and we greatly enjoyed the conversation at breakfast each morning.

We just got back from a weekend trip down to New Orleans and we can’t recommend Labelle Esplanade enough.

Matthew and Melanie have a great knowledge of the real New Orleans, and encourage people to visit the places not as widely toured.

It also has steep stairs and kind of quirky plumbing - what can you do?

Steep narrow stairs, high claw foot tubs.

but keep in mind that narrow, curving, steep stairs are the price to pay, so the mobility-challenged might want to make another selection.

When going up the stairs, it is best to use the new handrail along the wall and not the banister.

Our suite was on the second floor and as this is a very old house (mid 1800's) the stairs are narrow and steep.

However, after climbing the steep & somewhat rickety stairs we settled in, cooled down & then hit the streets following some of his many suggestions (Buffas, for food & live music).

So why a 4 instead of a 5?--indeed if you have some ambulation issues, the distance may be a concern as are the stairs.

The stairs to get to one of two upstairs bedrooms room could be a challenge with big luggage,
