even though - traveling with a dog, we were accommodated in one of the lower quality rooms (the parquet floor and the wooden door were pretty badly damaged).

but let down by poor acoustics , I suspect the inner door to the rooms was either not fitted or removed for whatever reason resulting in a somewhat noisy experience when guests or staff were near the corridor outside our door.

If the door could be split so the top could be opened that would overcome the problem.

A bathroom, small lounge area with sagging striped sofa and a sliding door leading to a very small bedroom with the narrowest four poster bed we'd ever seen.

It is a noisy hotel as the floors and doors creak.

Staff friendly and welcome drink on the terrace overlooking the mountains magical.

The staff was very attentive and friendly - especially Rocio, one of the waitresses.

I was also pleasantly surprised to see that they are an environmentally friendly hotel and they have the 12 Global Goals stated in their rooms.

The hotel is in a magnificent building and wonderful location, the food is truly excellent, the staff very friendly and attentive and WIFI is available.

Hotel staff in general are friendly and helpful except the front desk staff.

The next confusion was the missing price list for the minibar in the hotel room, so one could assume that the various soft drinks such as water or Coca-Cola are courtesy from the hotel.

However, it was disappointing to then see that they offer plastic straws in the restaurant and they wrap the cups in the bathroom in plastic too.

The signature dishes judías de Barco (white beans with meat) and natillas (some sort of custard) could have been better.

Neither of us having tried bacalao before I can't really comment on the quality; perhaps it's supposed to be rubbery and tasteless (they have that down to a fine art in the kitchens at the Parador Gredos).

The only weak point we found is that the place can get very crowded and busy during the weekend, as locals from the nearby villages often come to hang aroung and have a cup of coffee at the hotel.

This place has surprising history and is in a beautiful natural location.

Wi-fi worked very well and the location was perfect.

This is the original Parador and is in a spectacular location in the hills and forests of the Sierra de Gredos.

This was a good location with outstanding walks through the forest and Alpine type pastures.

We were in the midst of a heatwave and despite no air conditioning it was Coll enough to sleep due to The mountainous location.

The hotel itself, as you'd expect, is highly comfortable and the beautiful location it's in offers walks for all types-challenging or a casual stroll and right from the front door.

If walking in the sierra is planned then this location could not be better.

As always staff were cheerful and helpful, this Parador is in a great mountain location for some excellent walks and looks to have been modernised for its birthday celebrations.

In all, this is just a warm, welcoming hotel, in a beautiful rural location, and if this is your kind of thing, really shouldn't be missed.

The hotel its self is in a great location with good views and lots of parking.

The landscape was also a great surprise; located in a forest in a mountain range not too far away from Madrid, you will be able to enjoy excellent views in your way to the hotel and, of course, if you decide to use it as basecamp for hiking around the area.

The natural beauty of the Gredos is easily accessible from the hotel and the staff was helpful in providing information about nearby excursions.

As ever in Paradors all the staff spoke perfect English and were helpful and attentive.

The staff all around the hotel, the housekeepers, restaurant staff, receptionists, all of them are welcoming, helpful and friendly.

The staff were good and breakfast offered a wide array of food, fresh fruit, breads , freshly cooked eggs to order etc., all in all pretty good.

If you can manage the Spanish, or are happy to go and view without the whole explanation, we'd thoroughly recommend this.

though the person at the reception assured us that the traffic wouldn’t bother us we insisted on getting a room at the other, quiet side.

The staff know all about this and admit that it has not worked well for a long time.

Nevertheless the staff make up for any shortcomings in the climate.

First the positive: the staff are the nicest guys!

The last morsel of food had barely left the plate before the plate was whisked away.

however, is the fact, that for some of these dishes had to be paid a "supplement".

Plus the natillas was way too much: a full soup plate.

His veal – a speciality of this mountainous region – must have spent its very long life training  for some kind of bovine Olympics before dying of old age and ending up as a tough, grisly slab  on his plate sans garnish.

We tried to have a snack in the main cafeteria on a Saturday evening, and gave up after waiting more than 20 minutes at a table full of durty dishes as no waiter showed up.

The building was stunning and our superior room was fantastic with a four poster bed and a large terrace on the top floor with breathtaking views.

The place is spectacular, with the mountains view, fresh air, forest around for walking and a lot of possibilities for activities around.

Really stunning place to sit and just be.

although the view was over the back/side of the hotel.

Just go the the top floor and sit on the balcony to look at beautiful view.

but it's just the tranquil setting itself which is so stunning.

The original Parador in an historic building dating back to 1928 with some delightful views.

For 69 euros only: one standard room, one person, breakfast, (no views).

Perfect for walking both directly from parador and many routes in the area.

This is an excellent mid way point between the northern spanish ferry ports and the Costa Del Sol, (Nerja for us) and we’ll be stopping off for a few days walking next year on our way past.

So we were in search of a place to rest and decided to walk 7 km’s back to this parador.

The staff at reception are very helpful and will give you printed maps and suggested itineraries from a gentle walk round the pine forest, a longer walk along the river past cascades, or one of the signature Gredos walks from the Plataforma to the Laguna Grande (which, whilst needing some hiking stamina needs no technical equipment other than perhaps crampons to complete in the snow).

The common area's are great to explore and a walk in the woods is worth doing.

If you are into hiking, trail running, mountain bike or just walking is a perfect choice.

The hotel feels like a second home, has great restaurant featuring local specialties, and an observatory on the roof (operated by an astronomer who comes by on clear evenings).

We had a meal in a small restaurant, Drakar, in the village and again had superb food with excellent service.

This excellent small hotel hardly needs reviewers' comments beyond those already submitted: pleasant service, quality (and quantity) of food, extensive and reasonable wine list, comfortable room (ours was 'standard') beautiful surroundings and great walks of different kinds.

If the standard of the rooms and their facilities were improved slightly, I would rate this hotel as excellent.

We have a large room on the first floor with a delightful small balcony with an amazing room.

It is a small very couth hotel which is well kept and run with extremely helpful and attentive staff (who were particularly good natured about my pathetic Spanish).

The hosts were welcoming and helpful, friendly at all times, and rightly very proud of their bird hide which is part of the hostal.

It was a very friendly and personal welcome.

The waiter (almost certainly the owner) was lovely, and really friendly, and brought us liqueurs to taste at the end of our meal.

The staff is very friendly and the food really 'homemade'.

The hotel staff is very helpful - after our second day we were allowed an extreme late check-out which meant that we could take a shower and change after a hike and before continuing our journey.

Local recipes revisited by Loli and Alfonso, the very professional and welcoming couple in charge of the hotel since many years.

The friendliness of the welcome by the owners (the wife speaks good English) and staff was highly appreciated.

The service was great, and the owners were very attentive with special diet wishes.
