The bath towels are old and need to be upgraded and the Wifi does not reach the bungalow

In the room, there is a glassed in shower with an open door.

Unfortunately the bathroom didnt looked very nice and it appeared to be quite filthy.

I’d happily pay €30 per night based on the poor quality of amenities and services.

Problems with bathroom were fixed rapidly.

Only suggestion to make bathroom in room more private as now it was glass one with a shaded wallpaper and you can see persons shade in the bathroom.

They don't offer beach towels, we had to use our bathroom towels, which was not nice.

There is mold in the corners of the shower, which operated at a trickle.

though the bathroom could do with a little refurbishment.

The food was delicious and well-prepared, the service was excellent, and the ambiance was very pleasant.

Breakfast was amazing with a wide selection of food.

Excellent food, starting forn breakfast that includes fruits and different choices of juices, coffee and vegetables.

The Tanzian-owned hotel can impress with cheerful and super-supportive staff, a really yummy breakfast buffet, excellent rooms with ocean view, a beach that is well maintained (remember proximity to Moroni means a lot of litter) and great for snorkeling at a nearby reef, which will introduce to the diverse underwater world.

He took great care of us and the food was so so  so so delicious.

The chef cuisinier is super top the meals he prepared are sooooooooooo delicious.

Even at breakfast he checked at everything going well.

The free breakfast buffet was exceptional, the beds were soft, the rooms had a/c and the staff was friendly.

The buffet was $22 USD per person and only had a few items available, so it's best to order al a carte.

Head chef made an exception after very involved negotiations for the second night of buffet.

Above all, the food is yummy and exquisite.. amazing service.. nice beaches ⛱️.. i recommend both couples and single people to try this one..

The credit card machine does work for checkout, and they allow you to bill food/beverage to your room account.

- the hotel accepts all types of credit cards (not just Visa)
- meals are appropriately priced.

If you have to visit make sure you use your credit card or withdraw local money in advance because the hotel exchange rayes are a ripoff.

You can pay your bill with VISA - they do not accept Mastercard.

Check-in and payment procedures were very slow and the surcharges for card payment are just insane to be honest.

Unless you pay with VISA and accept surcharges you will pay in cash, mostly in Euro.The hotel is close to the airport and to Moroni.

Change of local currency easy and not charged; only VISA is accepted, or cash.

After complaining at the reception I was accommodated into one of their bangolo suites for no extra charge (last two nights).

The price to the airport is $20/car which is outrageous considering how poor Comoros is.

Strangely, during this stay, the restaurant service was poor due to lack of staff and the food was either not hot or empty stations were not replenished.

The Comores are among the most poorley managed countries similar to Belize and Haiti and among the 170 UNO countries definitely at the bottom of the list: poor roads and very dirty.

These glorious islands will be discovered soon so despite the poor accommodation I suggest if you like out of the way locations.

Their exchange rate for USD to KMF is only 420, far below the market rate of 460.

They should use some of the proceeds of their exorbitant rates (relative to other properties) to make physical improvements and staff customer service capacity.

However, due to relatively high prices, the majority of guests are tourists from other parts of the world, mainly from Europe, India, Far East or other relatively rich countries.

Meals are extremely basic, not what would you expect for the price you pay and the hotel name,

numerous emails back and forth (many going unanswered) and eventually having to make a money transfer to pay a deposit before arrival. .

I asked to order food there and they initially said no,

but after 07:30 there ws nothing left to eat and after we asked from the staff to refill the trays they took 45 minutes to grt us a plate of fruits instead of proper breakfast.

The room was dirty upon arrival, and as we asked for twin beds, this was not even arranged for the first night.

2 out of 3 requests went wrong, with no taxi available.

So you may struggle with making requests in English if you do not know any French.

If they would have asked me to do it, I would have even been happy to do it!

There were exposed wires to the outlet in the bathroom.

There is visible mold in the bathrooms for instance.

Behind the toilet are old ruin stains and all sealing is gone long ago.

although the bathroom would need some renovation, especially in the shower area.

The walls are covered in stains of dubious origin, the bathroom is covered in mould, the towels were dirty and the bedlinen not washed from the previous guest.

Disgusting rooms, I fear for my health staying in this hotel, green moldy walls and furniture, my shower drain flooded the bedroom, it looked like it wasn't the first time it had happened.

however the rooms are well overdue renovation work and especially the bathroom in the room I was in (248).House keeping in my opinion don’t really pay attention to detail as I noticed the tiles around the bathtub area are all water marked and need a good scrubbing.

Prepare for a foot bath as you wash your hands!

The bathrooms don't seem to have been touched by the renovation that was done.

The room was "tired", the bathroom even more "tired".

Some electrical switches were damaged and dangerous, the bath was stained and corroded, the shower head damaged and falls off, and sometimes the water supply is trickling.

although the shower curtain tend to stick to your legs.

The issue with the smell was the same, and the bathroom was so poorly maintained I thought the wall was crumbling.

If that wasn't enough I complained that the bathroom in our room had a strong smell of urine that even after cleaning soon came back when the air freshener they spray wore off.

There is also no filtration system so every so often they drain and refill it.

But the hotel is bare bones -- the bathrooms are pretty basic and need some work to make them look cleaner (dirty grout, broken tiles),

The buffet had all the canisters unlit and the food cold.

Breakfast buffet is filthy with birds flying around from outside.

Breakfast was totally ok.  We were able to get freshly cooked eggs every morning.

We had the buffet one evening which did seem popular with the locals

One can order for eggs, which the chef prepares to one's taste.

On the positive side, you can get eggs or omletttes cooked to order and there was some fresh fruit.

The restaurant is mixed - breakfast buffet is only fair, and the dinner buffet as well.

Nice and simple hotel, same menu for the breakfast everyday, no alcohol service at the bar.

Positive items were the excellent breakfast (homely made pastries) and the setting at the coast.

Comoros is a poor country and I did not expect much

but the food was poor quality and the cost not for off western prices.

Moroni is a very poor, dirty and underdeveloped place so returning to the Retaj in the evening felt like heaven.

If this hotel was anywhere else, I'd rate it "poor";

While the surroundings are quite nice, as the hotel is right in front of the beach, the rooms are really poor.

It is sad that a place with such potential has to endure a poor hotel like this, where to start.

However, in the context of being in an isolated, somewhat forgotten, highly uneducated and impoverished country, it is adequate and basically the only place to stay aside from the Istandra which is, at this time about 150 Euro a night (However, both places have poor quality food, not sure about the rooms,

Let me list the items:

- 50% increase of room rate for a second person (really, cant think of anything else to make up for your poor occupancy rate)
- Room was smelling of gutter during the full two days.

The staff are miserable and unhelpfull and english is poor.

On the cons side, the poor internet connection, limited choice at breakfast and, the slow pace of conference services.

So overall: this place is poor and worsening.

Despite seeing mnay poor reviews on this hotel, we decided to give it a try after 2 weeks on Moheli island.

The drain pipe from the sink is broken and open to the bathroom floor.

Mold stains on the walls and ceilings, pillows filled with what only feels like torn up pieces of foam matress.

Disturbing is the fact that guests like to hang around at a "lounge" close to the rooms and the restaurant and a lot of them heavy smokers; the smell will get in your room if you are staying on the left side of the hotel.

We have very fond memories of sitting on their terrace for both breakfast and dinner.

delicious fresh fruit salad with chocolate ice cream.

fish was cooked perfectly and was delicious.

The hotel does provide a fair decent breakfast with French baguette, egg omelet and baguette French toast.

Τhe hotel is impeccably clean and offers a quite good breakfast despite the scarcity of several commodities in this country.

Included breakfast is good , and you can enjoy it on the lovely terrace in front of the hotel !

It's in the middle of the city, the staff are really helpful and can arrange anything you want to do, and the food is fresh and delicious.

We ate dinner here on our second stay, and it was fresh and delicious and really compared to Europe and Hong Kong very cheap.

although we did not have time for breakfast we were provided with juice and coffee.

Helped arrange taxis and saved our bacon when our flight was cancelled.

So, for about 50% less than the asking price of (single) rooms with tv, I had a very comfortable couple of nights: fan, en suite (they fixed the flushing mechanism on the toilet within hours of my taking up the room), mosquito net, and breakfast is part of the deal.

This is not a luxury and leaves much to be desired since there really isn’t WiFi in the rooms, and the rooms are very basic.

They tried to be patient with my poor French.

but, to my surprise, they refused to give me any info on public transport since I was not using the overpriced taxi services they offered.

but I did not like that they add 3% if you pay by Visa card !

Credit cards appear to possibly be accepted (I did pay in cash, though).

The first night I got a suite on the first floor for the price of a standard.

but was the same price which seems a little strange.

however a bit overpriced - considering the very simple breakfast, the air-con and internet only working sporadically.

It had no airconditioning and if I left the window open, everybody could just walk in.

On my first stay, the large, heavy wooden curtain railing above the window fell on top of my head as I tried to open the curtains.

There were at least 4 that sounded like they were right outside our window.

The 6:30AM simple breakfast buffet at the roadside restaurant was serviced by a Madagascaran waiter; Mango or ginger juice, fresh fruit, baguettes with marmalade/honey, pain de chocolat, some type of eggs, Nesquik and coffee with hot milk.

Mesh over all window so no need for a mosquito net over the bed.

On the negative side, a few mosquitos(requested a bed net), 2 low wall outlets, a stuck closet door and the Muezzin call with local roosters through the broken window beginning at 4:30AM.

My wife and I spent 3 nights, arriving at 2PM by taxi(20Euro) from the HAH Airport.

The 3 jalousie window units were grilled, screened & louvered with one glass missing.

they helped me to take the table out of the restaurant so I could have my breakfast in the nice garden.There is a good Indian Restaurant less than 100 meter of the hotel.

but, I suspect that that is related to the power going off).

There is a small restaurant called "Crusty" down where the swimming pool used to be, which is okay.

We forgot to mention that the Hotel has Internet  and Fax facilities.

but drinks are expensive,
it is more like an outside café than a hotel restaurant, the new pool was being constructed which
will improve the site.

Mozzie net supplied, wifi a bit sketchy, even in the foyer, power goes off often (but that might not be the hotel's fault), en suite, water goes off sometimes

In both, as is often the case in the Comoros, the running water and electricity were not reliable.
