From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, all staff were friendly, kind and attentive.

We also got to play volleyball by the beach and observed there were fun activities for kids as well.

We travelled in a big group - my mother left behind her credit cards and ID cards - and the hotel immediately called us and informed when they found it - we really appreciated the honesty and integrity of the staff

Kids also enjoyed the games room - 2 table tennis, 2 babyfoot and more

So we were able to have a peaceful swim and play with our son as well.

We loved the pool and our 4 year old son loved the water slide.

We enjoyed the stay and kids loved the place too

Pool was very clean & they have a kids pool with a slide which is safe & nice.

We were looked after very well and it made it a very enjoyable time with our little boy.

My kids have learned to surf, with perfect waves for learner’s.

A particular mention to Tharindu, our room keeper, and to Dilshan, the restaurant manager who really took care of our kids needs.

We traveled as a family (2 adults & 2 children [5 &7 yrs]) to Weligama to relax and learn surfing.

They also have a kids club (we did not try

- Electricity backup which meant we had air conditioning - a big thing currently with the state of Sri Lanka
- Lots of activities for children and adults - table tennis, foosball, pool, beach access etc
- All guests were treated well - no discrimination which was a refreshing change!

The children also dive bomb into the pool and jump splashing guests around the pool.

The one with specs is my favourite and also there was anothercute little girl as well.

Kids area and the  three swimming pools were delighted my son.

There are plenty of activities for kids and teens, with kids club, pools and a wonderful beach that is ideal for swimming and surfing.

The facilities offered by a hotel are futile if the service is poor, and we felt Weligama Bay Marriott Resort & Spa ticked both boxes (especially due to Sanjeeva's efforts

Even the day before our arrival our rooms were confirmed by a staff named Imbrani to our agent and didn’t honour on the day.That’s what I call poor customer service and in fact deceiving the customer.

Please look in to service quality as you will loose customers due to poor service

Welcome drink was a poor version of an iced tea.

After being cooped up the whole day in our room on our last day as we had to cancel the pool plan due to: the poor weather, poor pool hygiene and sun shade collapsing incident we ordered lunch and the prawn salad portion was tiny (smaller than a kids size portion).

Services of kids club staff are very poor.

Due to the poor management, we had to come to lunch on slots (12.30 to 2.00, 2.00 to 3.30)

My children who can’t eat much spicy food had a very poor tasting pasta and mashed potato.

but the service we got was so poor we had little faith - simple things like emailing us back, giving us basic information over the phone just absolutely nothing to make us think this hotel will care about our wedding - until we spoke to sheine at the Marriott.

Hotels like charging us in pounds or dollars because they offer poor currency rates, inspite of me insisting i want to transact in lankan rupees.

In my country there is some words and I think my poor translation will not picture entire meaning

The exchange rate is very poor when you pay this way with the credit card.

The mattress was definitely of poor quality.

After a sour experience checking into the hotel due to delays and poor communication between our travel agent and Marriott, the team at Marriott Weligama were able to accommodate us suitably on our 2nd and 3rd night.

The poor room service resulted in us phoning reception on a daily basis to ask for towels and shower caps, I am sure they would see us ringing and be thinking ‘not them again!’.

Our room had a great sea view and  pools  were amazing.

Rooms were really, really clean and sea views from the rooms were amazing.

First - the buffet - excellent for all three meals - great variety and delicious food - the most beautiful hoppers made at breakfast by the chef

Then - the rooms were really beautiful, comfortable and peaceful - we also had the ocean view rooms.

The view from the rooms looking out onto Weligama Bay absolutely stunning.

The view from the rooms is really nice because the sea and the beach in front of the hotel is one of a kind.

Hotel is perched on the beach with an amazing view to our room.

While the room and view were fabulous we were left with a feeling of not being wanted!

All around great hotel and amazing location with stunning views from each room.

The hotel is situated right on the beach with a brilliant location and the views from the room are simply magnificent.

especially the ocean view rooms that have little balconies.

We even received an upgrade to a Deluxe Ocean View Room.

Fabulous buffet food, incredible views from our room, great pool, friendly staff and fantastic location.

Hotel is located right in the middle of Weligama Bay, all rooms have ocean view and you can watch sunsets every day right from your room.

The hotel took care of us very well and thanks to the chef de cuisine on duty and all the staff members who took care of us like family.They arrange a cake to the room and the views were just amazing!

From the reception team to kitchen team they are so wonderful.

The staff their were very loving and helpful.

From the beginning up to the Weeding date we had several discussions with the hotel event team and they were really helpful.

Hotel Staff was amazing and went above and beyond to make our stay memorable.

All staff members go much more than the ‚extra mile‘.

They kept with the rigid attitude until I suggested some creative solution and they even improved it.

what a wonderful stay we had and all my 26 pax experienced at this beautiful resort thanks to all the great facilities.

but then booked again other 5 nights as by my experience of multiple stay in Sri Lanka in the past 4 years this is definitely the best 5 star hotel of the Country.

Had a wonderful couples massage, spent time in the luxurious pool and breakfast and dinner buffets were 5-star experiences with excellent service.

Despite being close to the main road and beaches, it’s very quiet and feels like a little oasis of calm.

The garden and pool are wonderful peaceful places to hang about with wildlife between trips to the beach across the road and the delicious meals!

Perfect Location cross ten road and you are at the beach.

The rooms are stylish, the garden and pool are beautiful, the people who run this place are very friendly, the food is delicious and the location is excellent with the beach across the street.

Having traveled around Sri Lanka, pulling off the hectic coast road in Mirissa up the lane to this place is quite a feeling of much needed tranquility.

The second day we swam with the turtles a great experience and a must do Sandru across the road on the beach rents out the equipment and is a great operator he also has life jackets which certainly make snorkelling easier and more enjoyable.

The location is great,  just across the road from a beach where we saw lots of turtles.

but away from the “strip” and busy coast road.

It's located right off the main road right across from the beach so it's a perfect location.

but the Spice House is just so perfect, it is set back from the road but only 5 minutes to the beach, tuk tuks to other beaches cost a few quid and nothing is any trouble.

The advantage being you’re away from the crowds, noise and busy beach road.

It was calm, yet only 5-10 minutes with tuc-tuc away from the busy beaches and streets of Mirissa.

The Spice House run by Phil and his wife Wathsala, is a gem in a very central location in Mirissa across the road from the beach

The spice house is in a fantastic location with a small swimming beach across the road or a short walk up into town for the main beach / restaurants.

Such a peaceful environment over looking the valley and just across the road from the beach.

The house is literally just across the road from the beach and at the back, has wonderful views of the jungle, a great canopied seating area for watching the monkeys and a fabulous little pool to cool off.

Just across the road there is the beach which at the furthest most end is lined with a few cafe's that serve excellent fresh sea food and beverages making the perfect recipe for a truly wonderful stay.

There is a shortcut to a small beach across the road or a 15 minute walk to the main beach in Mirissa.

The whole staff is very friendly and smiling.

Also, this hotel seemed to attract lovely guests and everyone else who was staying there was so friendly too.

We loved it here and wish we could stay for longer, the owners were super friendly and the grounds are just glorious!

Staff was universally friendly and efficient and we appreciated the owner’s assistance and good cheer.

The Spice House is amazing, exactly what we wanted with lots of wildlife hanging around in the gardens (plenty of birds, lizards, frogs, squirrels and both monkeys).

Mostly we were in Pepper Cottage which had two rooms for sleeping and an extra outdoor shower, along with a pleasant porch view overlooking part of the gardens and the trees behind.

The beautiful garden, with the natural world open on at least one side was the perfect antidote to the rush of traffic on Galle Road.

A lovely house with gorgeous jungle garden.

We stayed int the Pepper Cottage, a nicely decorated independent little house set in the lush garden.

We stayed in the Clove cabin, it is very spacious and has a nice balcony overlooking the big garden.

We booked the room Lemongrass, which was spacious and little bit hidden in the garden (we slept like babies, so quiet here at night).

The rooms were amazing with incredible views, the pool was fantastic, the gardens had wildlife including monkeys, peacocks, and birds of paradise.

We stayed in a fantastic room (Lemon Grass) with ample space, luxury and Zen-like views on the tropical garden, enjoyed it to the max, made walks and loved every step.

It's a peaceful and luxurious retreat away from the noise and bustle of Mirissa's main street, with comfortable and spacious rooms set amidst a lovely garden full of birdlife and leaf-eating monkeys.

The gardens are gorgeous they offer dinners where all who attend sit together the 
food is fantastic Sri Lankan cuisine and cheap.

The garden is absolutely wonderful with fireflies and rich wildlife.

Rooms are a good size, nice bathroom and a balcony overlooking the beautiful garden and pool.

The pool and gardens are the perfect place to chill out.

The guesthouse is a colonial style home set well back from the main road in absolutely beautiful gardens - the pool is stunning and overlooks the natural jungle.

We stayed in the tamarind room which overlooked the pool and garden - a pretty spectacular jungle view perfect for relaxing on the balcony and gazing out with a cuppa (there’s also a little tea station for guests which was a nice perk).

but that got a bit hot when the sun was shining.

Our room (Lemongrass) is very small, sparsely furnished, and extremely hot.

Tuktuks appear as soon as you step onto the main road, or it's a (hot)ten minute walk to get to the main bay.

but if you struggle to sleep when hot, be aware of this.

but the ceilings are high, allowing the hot air to rise.

but until we arrived we didn't appreciate just how hot it would be.

Only improvement would be to suggest air-con in Mud-house as it was a bit hot through the night.

This is not a criticism of the Spice House, I didn't realise quite how hot Mirissa is and that my husband would struggle so much,

No AC in any of the rooms and very hot and humid.

Our room was very spacious with lovely big bed, it had a ceiling fan which was a life saver as it was very hot & we would not have slept without it as the bedroom only has doors & we did not feel comfortable leaving them open all night.

Small criticisms would be the yellow stain on our bed sheet and the fact that the hot water was temperamental.

We went whale watching whilst in Mirissa and despite the fact that we had to be up and about by 5.30 a.m., Wathsala was anxious to ensure that we all had hot drinks before leaving.

There were a couple of minor niggles re hot water, sheets etc

On the second day, when I took the shower, it couldn't provide the hot water.

A small paradise facing the jungle with a very relaxing atmosphere.

The trees, flowers and the animals surrounding… super peaceful and beautiful!

Overall a quiet retreat from the hectic main Mirissa Road and an easy walk to the closest beach and easily doable walk to the main stretch of Mirissa Beach. Our favorite nearby meal was at 101 just up the street (terrific!)

There is a lot of beautiful nature around, and lovely areas for relaxing.

but another room might prove more relaxing.

Views were beautiful from my balcony and so peaceful.

Our room was beautiful & overlooked the jungle (not sure the number it stood alone to the left of the pool) The pool & surrounds were so tranquil, we loved the daily visits from the monkeys passing through.

View from the balcony was to the front of property, peaceful with a glimpse of ocean.

The rooms are very comfortable and peaceful.

but inside the hotel it’s a quiet and relaxing retreat.

The grounds are beautiful and tranquil, and the pool is exquisite.

We worried for nothing, it was such a relaxing and easy stay and amazing value.

the gardens with cinnamon trees, coconut palms , green grass and squirrels was so well cared for and so peaceful.

Amazing views, lovely rooms, brilliant hosts and the jungle all around you.

All the staff were very helpful and always greeted us with a smile.

Phil and Wathsala could not have been more helpful and arranged transfers and whale watching, as well as rearranging everything twice when covid got in the way of our plans.

The house was accessible via a back road which was helpful (however coming back in the evening at night there were a number of stray dogs which were fine

Phil, Wathsala and the Spice House team are genuinely fabulous.

Very welcoming owners with great customer service.

Phil and Watsala, the owner team were so warm and welcoming, and so helpful with arrangements for anything and everything and always with a great sense of humour.

Back to The Spice House - our favourite hotel by far in Sri Lanka, great owners who work tremendously hard.

The hosts are great; organised, willing to share good advice, able to arrange onward travel to Galle at a good rate, etc.

The hosts are very helpful, and the breakfast was great and plentiful each morning.
