This is a easy review to be made, top 10 friendly staff, absolutely neat, quite and comfortable suite ( room 110 ), room service ( late night ) really decent, killer location, you have all archeological sites only a few minutes from you, who could ask for more?

Rooms are a decent size, comfortable, with well equipped bathroom, and are decorated with Roman features in keeping with the history of the town.

Our room was very quiet, the beds were comfortable,  the front desk staff pleasant and helpful.

The location is excellent at the head of de Plaza Espana (including city noises during the night), the central hall an lobby are more than beautiful designed, the rooms are spacious, the bathroom is superclean, we had very good beds.

We loved the decor - old world charm mixed with elegance.

The room was spacious, the decoration was a tribute to the city's Roman history.

Well furnished rooms, crisp white sheets and the comfiest mattress that I've slept on!!

but at the same time there are enough cafes, restaurants and shops to keep you busy 😉

the hotel has a grand interior and the facade as well.it has good sized rooms and bathroom,however would prefer carpeted floor and stronger cooling airconditioners.breakfast is quite elaborate too.the huge square in front of the hotel with numerous restaurants adds immensely to the central location of the hotel.all the old roman sites are within walking distance from the hotel.

Staying at this hotel was a pleasant surprise, in terms of the historic palace -like ambiance, the size and quality of our room and the amenities in the spacious bathroom.

The décor and furnishings were period-stylish with plenty of classical Roman motifs to ensure you know where you are.

The location is fantastic (though parking is not), and it does have the exterior (and a few interior, more on that later) bones of a palace,

The hotel itself is beautiful, a very cleaver conversion from an old palace, excellent decor, with top quality fixtures and fittings, the room also was large, comfortable and the bed was great, one of the biggest I’ve ever slept in, we thought we’d hit the jackpot with this hotel.

I would have thought that a hotel guest would have some value,

No drinks at the pool and the lobby was often full with guests who I am sure were not staying in the hotel.

, you failed to solve the problem and you DON’T RESPECT your guests!!! !

My impression is that the over pricing and Taringa is a tool to filter clientele to only have elite preppie Spanish clients.

but there was never anybody in attendance during our stay and we never saw any guests using it.

The first floor stank of stale smoke which may annoy some guests.

Shouldn't the member of staff be on hand to help guests before they block the street?

she seemed to ignore the fact I was a paying guest.

However, guests must beware the possible appearance of the occasional cockroach.

Trying to check out was frustrating, 4 staff behind the counter and 3 guests checking out,

I think that paying guests deserved their own private seating area.

I didn't take breakfast because in Spanish Hotels is an extra, so I went to the main square in front to eat at a coffe-bar, like other guests (it's a 5star breakfast with a 5star price, has you can guess. ).

Ideally located for exploring the Roman archaeological sites.

My room was located at the back of the hotel and very quiet.

Located in front of the Plaza Mayor at 5 minutes of major attractions.

It is very central in the main plaza so walking to all the Roman sights is within less than ten minutes.

Location is perfect, across central plaza and walking distance to restaurants.

Perfect location situated on the Plaza Espana which is surrounded by a large variety of shops and restaurants.

Location facing the Plaza Dr Espana is where you can drop your cases off and the hotel faces.

The staff were very helpful and friendly.

The location itself is very nice, right on the main plaza in the center of the old town.

The location is right in Plaza Espagna; convenient for walking to archeological sites from Roman to Islam to the more recent Christian period, for food or just to wander around the surroundings.

The hotel fronts the Plaza Mayor which can be noisy in the evening

Getting to this hotel is a nightmare due to one small set of roadworks

Sounds from outside woke up in the morning, which was a slight minus,

Also in the middle of the night with the windows open you can hear the garbage people.

but he pretended he did not hear me and walked away.

but my window for instance didn’t close properly and a bit noise came in; the decoration a bit old fashion but that’s personally.

We could still faintly hear the people on the plain in front all night

I see on tripadvisor the noise complaints exists for many years, no excuses about old building etc.

Our suite did get a bit of noise from the adjoining plaza in the mornings

but completely let down by noise, I could not recommend this hotel if you want a quiet nights sleep.

Late night noise as it was Saturday night.

I'm amazed that previous reviewers have barely mentioned the building works in the square which completely spoiled the view and was very noisy.

but because of the design you hear every echo of doors slamming and talking .

but it was too hot and the only way we could reduce the heat was by increasing the air con which proved noisy.

In the morning the cleaning staff was noisy.

so Long the quest are there, you can hear all the talk in room.

Located off the square, be prepared for noise if staying on the weekend, especially if your room is facing right on to the square.

No concerns about noise at least during our Winter stay (Jan/2016).

although the bells and noise could be troublesome, we didn't find it so.

Some previous reviewers have moaned about the noise from the plaza and from the clock tower and church bells.

The entrance courtyard is stunning and the room was fabulous.

I’ve been in there on 27 of December in the room 212.

Not at all disappointed, great value for money, the welcome and assistance from the staff at reception on our arrival was first class, the room welcoming, extremely spacious, spotlessly clean, warm and extremely well presented.

We had a quiet room only the bathroom needed some attention.

first room had mold, second room smelled of cigarettes

Main gripes were the room had a slight drains smell when we came back to it and no extras like bathrobes which we had in a 3 star in Salamanca, not forgetting this is a 5 star.

No way of enjoying a zen time with smokers around you.

It is much, much better than the historic Parador nearby, which is dirty and smells of stale food.

In our room, one of the rooms (the entrance anti-chamber and bathroom areas) reeked of cigarette smoke.

The first floor really stinks of smoke and the rooms not facing the plaza have quite terrible views.

but not half as nice - punishment for non smokers?

Numerous items in disrepair, somewhat musty smell, WiFi only in the lobby not in the rooms.

When we were taking a shower, the bathtub is slippery and we even noticed the mold in the corners!

Apart from the mould in the mini bath/shower, dust, cobwebs, being given a smoking room where the beds smelt of smoke, the smoke alarm being switched off, and an old TV with no English channel( like all the other numerous Spanish hotel we have stayed at).

We are sure we are not the first guests to see the cracks of the doors or had the door fell nearly on our face (we looked at the hinges its rotting already.. so its been broken some time before).

even though it was supposed to be a non-smoking room, so I asked if there was another room available.

Staff at reception had very good English.

We had a misunderstanding at the reception,

The service was nice quick check in with the receptionist Carmelo who was nice, polite and professional, really nice stay we really enjoy it.

but my experience with staff in the lobby trying to order a drink seems to have pushed me pushed me over the edge.

Driving around Merida can be a bit daunting so the option of valet parking is useful.

We chose to pay for valet parking, so the hotel parked the car and brought it back when we were ready to leave.

I want to leave here a special thanks to Javier, the valet parking, he was helping us on everything in the hotel and about information of the city he knew everything, people like him gives an extra value to the place, I wish you the best and thank you for everything again.

But they must have a great vallet parking service,

Very easy to find in the city main square, impeccable valet parking and friendly reception on arrival, an impressive and beautifully tile decorated lobby, large and comfortable room with superb mosaique decorations above the bed  and elegant atmosphere.

Arriving by car was easy to navigate even with the central location & valet parking was €19 per night.

For an additional charge of 5 euros, they will valet park for you.

The valet parking also worked perfectly, so we will definitely recommend this.

Lovely gin and tonic and valet parking was a much needed bonus. .

Although we only stayed one night this time, we felt very welcomed and comfortable.

but the unmarried daughters of the gentry who expected to live out their lives in comfort and style.

The staff were delightful, the rooms were comfortable and spotless: I even loved the slightly old fashioned shower-bath combo (nothing irritates me more than over designed elaborate showers in hotels - I want a hot, powerful shower, not a sense of walking through Spring rain.

A well situated historic parador, ideally sited for easy exploration of the Roman heart of the city.

It is a bit of a rabbit warren and easy to get lost in.

The Parador is well situated for foot access to all of Merida's main sights - the Roman theatre/amphitheatre are about 10 minutes' easy walk away, as is the town centre, Roman Bridge, Alcazabar and St Eulalia.

The Parador is within easy walking distance to the Roman Amphitheatre, Roman Theatre and the Alcazar

The Roman remains are a 10 minute easy walk, and a must to visit if you are staying here.

Reasonably easy to access in this traffic controlled town.

Skip the "guided tour of the hotel " offered daily because basically he shows you the  grounds which you can see on your own, and the guide just wants you to hire him to help you tour Merida, which is very easy on your own.

Staff are pleasant tho.Merida itself has a good Roman amphitheater & some ruins and walking around is easy with a nice pedestrian precinct too.

Access by car was easy using Google Maps directions.

The Parador is within easy walking distance of some of the most magnificent Roman ruins you will find anywhere in Europe.

but worth it - it wouldn't be easy to street-park close by).

Nice hotel with an historic character, excellent location at walking distance of all Roman sites to visit , remarkable restaurant for dinner ( if not the best, one of the best dinners we have made in Spain this summer).

This Parador is located within walking distance of the main Roman sites - and as such is ideal.

A good location to see all the wonderful Roman ruins.

Starting with the positive points I would say the hotel's location is ok, a 20 min walk to the Roman ruins.

The place is conveniently located for the local sights - we walked to the Roman remains very easily - and there is secure parking on site.

We drove and the arrival is weird, you must go to the garage first and then attempt to find reception (it is like a maze with many hallways and poor directions) The hallways smelled of some kind of disinfectant-I opened several windows.

Hotel decoration is poor, old fashion, not stylish to the slightest.

but had a poor experience in the restaurant when my wife's scallops were overcooked to the point of being inedible.

but very damaged, making a very poor impression.
