I would have thought that a hotel guest would have some value,

No drinks at the pool and the lobby was often full with guests who I am sure were not staying in the hotel.

, you failed to solve the problem and you DON’T RESPECT your guests!!! !

My impression is that the over pricing and Taringa is a tool to filter clientele to only have elite preppie Spanish clients.

but there was never anybody in attendance during our stay and we never saw any guests using it.

The first floor stank of stale smoke which may annoy some guests.

Shouldn't the member of staff be on hand to help guests before they block the street?

she seemed to ignore the fact I was a paying guest.

However, guests must beware the possible appearance of the occasional cockroach.

Trying to check out was frustrating, 4 staff behind the counter and 3 guests checking out,

I think that paying guests deserved their own private seating area.

I didn't take breakfast because in Spanish Hotels is an extra, so I went to the main square in front to eat at a coffe-bar, like other guests (it's a 5star breakfast with a 5star price, has you can guess. ).

Ideally located for exploring the Roman archaeological sites.

The hotel is conveniently located on the main square in Merida.

Central location with easy access to all of the major sites in Merida.

My room was located at the back of the hotel and very quiet.

The location was excellent, right across the plaza and easy walk everywhere.

the location is not 5 minutes from the centre.

The location of the hotel is brilliant, the architecture, the room, the style and the service was on top.

It's location is central so perfect for cocktails in the square to people watch.

The location is excellent at the head of de Plaza Espana (including city noises during the night), the central hall an lobby are more than beautiful designed, the rooms are spacious, the bathroom is superclean, we had very good beds.

Located in front of the Plaza Mayor at 5 minutes of major attractions.

It is very central in the main plaza so walking to all the Roman sights is within less than ten minutes.

Location is perfect, across central plaza and walking distance to restaurants.

Perfect location situated on the Plaza Espana which is surrounded by a large variety of shops and restaurants.

Location facing the Plaza Dr Espana is where you can drop your cases off and the hotel faces.

The staff were very helpful and friendly.

The location itself is very nice, right on the main plaza in the center of the old town.

The location is right in Plaza Espagna; convenient for walking to archeological sites from Roman to Islam to the more recent Christian period, for food or just to wander around the surroundings.

Sounds from outside woke up in the morning, which was a slight minus,

Also in the middle of the night with the windows open you can hear the garbage people.

but he pretended he did not hear me and walked away.

but my window for instance didn’t close properly and a bit noise came in; the decoration a bit old fashion but that’s personally.

We could still faintly hear the people on the plain in front all night

I see on tripadvisor the noise complaints exists for many years, no excuses about old building etc.

Our suite did get a bit of noise from the adjoining plaza in the mornings

but completely let down by noise, I could not recommend this hotel if you want a quiet nights sleep.

I'm amazed that previous reviewers have barely mentioned the building works in the square which completely spoiled the view and was very noisy.

but because of the design you hear every echo of doors slamming and talking .

but it was too hot and the only way we could reduce the heat was by increasing the air con which proved noisy.

In the morning the cleaning staff was noisy.

so Long the quest are there, you can hear all the talk in room.

Located off the square, be prepared for noise if staying on the weekend, especially if your room is facing right on to the square.

No concerns about noise at least during our Winter stay (Jan/2016).

although the bells and noise could be troublesome, we didn't find it so.

Some previous reviewers have moaned about the noise from the plaza and from the clock tower and church bells.

The rooms are clean, bright and well appointed.

The rooms were immaculate with great beds.

Upstairs ( third floor) the ceiling ( glass panelling needed a good clean ) , it was like we were sleeping in the attic  like atmosphere- the rooms were great  and very clean - bathroom excellent !.

Room was clean and neat with big comfortable bed.

On the bight side room was very clean and bigger than expected.

even though a valet is used,  [€18 extra] Room was OK clean and functional, good bathroom, plenty of hot water.

Main gripes were the room had a slight drains smell when we came back to it and no extras like bathrobes which we had in a 3 star in Salamanca, not forgetting this is a 5 star.

No way of enjoying a zen time with smokers around you.

It is much, much better than the historic Parador nearby, which is dirty and smells of stale food.

In our room, one of the rooms (the entrance anti-chamber and bathroom areas) reeked of cigarette smoke.

The first floor really stinks of smoke and the rooms not facing the plaza have quite terrible views.

but not half as nice - punishment for non smokers?

Numerous items in disrepair, somewhat musty smell, WiFi only in the lobby not in the rooms.

When we were taking a shower, the bathtub is slippery and we even noticed the mold in the corners!

Apart from the mould in the mini bath/shower, dust, cobwebs, being given a smoking room where the beds smelt of smoke, the smoke alarm being switched off, and an old TV with no English channel( like all the other numerous Spanish hotel we have stayed at).

We are sure we are not the first guests to see the cracks of the doors or had the door fell nearly on our face (we looked at the hinges its rotting already.. so its been broken some time before).

even though it was supposed to be a non-smoking room, so I asked if there was another room available.

Driving around Merida can be a bit daunting so the option of valet parking is useful.

We chose to pay for valet parking, so the hotel parked the car and brought it back when we were ready to leave.

Lovely greeting by Mairisa on reception we paid the extra for valet parking at €22 a day

I want to leave here a special thanks to Javier, the valet parking, he was helping us on everything in the hotel and about information of the city he knew everything, people like him gives an extra value to the place, I wish you the best and thank you for everything again.

But they must have a great vallet parking service,

Very easy to find in the city main square, impeccable valet parking and friendly reception on arrival, an impressive and beautifully tile decorated lobby, large and comfortable room with superb mosaique decorations above the bed  and elegant atmosphere.

Arriving by car was easy to navigate even with the central location & valet parking was €19 per night.

For an additional charge of 5 euros, they will valet park for you.

The valet parking also worked perfectly, so we will definitely recommend this.

Lovely gin and tonic and valet parking was a much needed bonus. .

The hotel is amazing and located within easy walking distance of all the historic sites which are a must for visitors to this lovely city.

Close enough to the Roman Bridge and Arabic fort for an easy walk.

The location is good being an easy walk to all the major attractions.

A comfortable and spacious hotel with good secure parking and within easy walking distance of the historic buildings.

Easy walk to Roman Teatro and the National  Museum  of ancient Roman art.

We had prepaid so check-in should have been quick and easy.

A well situated historic parador, ideally sited for easy exploration of the Roman heart of the city.

It is a bit of a rabbit warren and easy to get lost in.

The Parador is well situated for foot access to all of Merida's main sights - the Roman theatre/amphitheatre are about 10 minutes' easy walk away, as is the town centre, Roman Bridge, Alcazabar and St Eulalia.

The Parador is within easy walking distance to the Roman Amphitheatre, Roman Theatre and the Alcazar

The Roman remains are a 10 minute easy walk, and a must to visit if you are staying here.

Reasonably easy to access in this traffic controlled town.

Skip the "guided tour of the hotel " offered daily because basically he shows you the  grounds which you can see on your own, and the guide just wants you to hire him to help you tour Merida, which is very easy on your own.

Staff are pleasant tho.Merida itself has a good Roman amphitheater & some ruins and walking around is easy with a nice pedestrian precinct too.

Access by car was easy using Google Maps directions.

The Parador is within easy walking distance of some of the most magnificent Roman ruins you will find anywhere in Europe.

but worth it - it wouldn't be easy to street-park close by).

Too bad that the service for the breakfast is so poor and unfriendly.

We drove and the arrival is weird, you must go to the garage first and then attempt to find reception (it is like a maze with many hallways and poor directions) The hallways smelled of some kind of disinfectant-I opened several windows.

Hotel decoration is poor, old fashion, not stylish to the slightest.

but had a poor experience in the restaurant when my wife's scallops were overcooked to the point of being inedible.

but very damaged, making a very poor impression.

but on the second morning it was dreadfully poor.

but the service is poor both on reception and in the restaurant.

The dining room staff were particularly poor.

although sound insulation is poor because of the older, wooden window frames.

Drainage is poor, shower has mold and rust.

The breakfast showed some effort, there were again a lot of different local biscuits and handmade cakes, whilst the other Paradors (ZAFRA and PLASENTIA) their breakfast was expensive and the quality was really poor.

Breakfast was a real disaster with poor top up to the buffet and unhelpful staff

but went out instead because it was so poor.

We did not eat dinner here having experience poor food at other paradors also.

Having just left the Parador in Toledo, we were disappointed with the Parador in Merida - it was dark, the furnishing were old fashioned in all areas, and the service and food in the restaurant for both breakfast and dinner were poor.

but quite expensive and the concessions on price were very abruptly told to us we’re not allowed as we are not part of the European Union - after visiting many sites throughout Spain, this was the only one doing this!?

All in all a very expensive and incredibly disappointing stay.

At 20 Euros per night (14 for Amigos), parking seemed far too expensive for a tiny spot that even our rented Mini Cooper barely fit into with difficulty.

but for the price you pay per guest, not worth it either.

At first I thought the prices were a little high

but the prices were sky high.This Parador is now a bit long in the tooth, and in need of some serious refurb.

but the camera arrived the next day at 8:20 a.m. We had to leave for the airport by 7:30 a.m. We just wanted to get the photos that we took with the camera and it is very expensive to send it to the US.

this is an overpriced parador and quite soulless

Plenty of places offering it at less than this extortionate price!

The convent had its own expensive garage (tomtom wasn't precise for finding the Parador so have a map handy or ask a local)

Breakfast was over-priced and on our trip this was the most expensive breakfast and not the best!

Overall - the experience was expensive and very disappointing.

Breakfast is way over priced and lacking enough staff to properly clear tables and refresh the buffet style offering.

We thought that the parking was expensive at 19€ per day

but 'Amigos' members get a reduced rate in the rather tight garage.

Our room was very clean and very large, plenty of room to spread out and repack everything as we prepared to return home.

The rooms are very clean and comfortable and there is excellent secure parking.

Staff were very attentive and helpfull, the food was good and much enjoyed, our room was clean and comfortable.

The parador itself is adequate and the rooms are clean and spacious.

Our room was spotlessly clean with the usual standard of decor expected from Parador.

This old convent with about 82 rooms is probably the best place to stay in Merida for those who appreciate the Parador system in Spain.The historic building is kept immaculate and the rooms are large and the food in the restaurant is excellent.

Nice hotel with an historic character, excellent location at walking distance of all Roman sites to visit , remarkable restaurant for dinner ( if not the best, one of the best dinners we have made in Spain this summer).

The hotel is ideally situated to visit the Roman ruins, Roman bridge and other historical places of interest in the city.

It is a pleasure to visit the town with fine Roman architecture.

The Parador of Mérida is located in a strategic place to visit the monuments and the entire historical center of the city.

Merida is a fantastic place to visit , very family friendly with amazing Roman ruins and other historical buildings right in the middle of the town.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, giving us ideas of places to visit and directions to some of the sights.

The garden and pool was a nice place to relax after a long day visiting antiquities.

but in Junt it was s memorable visit with no downsides whatsoever.

In a good central location for visiting the old Roman sites all reasonable walking distance .

The hotel is in a good location for visiting most of the archeological sites in the city, as well as walking distance to restaurants and shopping.

The female receptionist who checked us in ( and out 3 days later co0incidentally) was the most impolite Spanish person we have met on 3 separate month long visits.

And located a few steps of all th emain sites to visit in Merida, a city full of charme.

but the site was perfect for Merida and some good visits around,

though we did need to drive to the Circus Maximus Overall a good night's stay and a perfect place to stay when visiting Merida

We intend to return with other friends and visit the local sights.

I would definitely visit it again if we get back to Merida.

Anyone interested in history, specifically the Roman history, has to visit Extremadura and Merida.

Everything was just perfect, the beautiful decor and so tastefully furnished it was just a pleasure to walk around and absorb the history.

Starting with the positive points I would say the hotel's location is ok, a 20 min walk to the Roman ruins.

Everything in walking distance and a nice walk in the evening over the Roman bridge before diner is a good experience.

Conveniently located within a short walk to the main square and river prom.

Despite Merida being small, it is well located and the most we walked was 20 minutes to the Circus (everything else is around 10 minutes) - loads of communal spaces to relax and nice garden.

The hotel is located in the centre of Mérida so you can walk everywhere.

Walking just outside takes you into the town, which is pleasantly attractive and has some roman remains, for example a complete arch.

The staff were delightful, the rooms were comfortable and spotless: I even loved the slightly old fashioned shower-bath combo (nothing irritates me more than over designed elaborate showers in hotels - I want a hot, powerful shower, not a sense of walking through Spring rain.

The Parador is  a few minutes walk from everything

The place is conveniently located for the local sights - we walked to the Roman remains very easily - and there is secure parking on site.

They provided a 4 hour walking tour of the city and music both nights in the restaurant.

We also to a long relaxing walk to view several of the ancient aqueducts.

So we got up and walked out going down the road where found a lovely restaurant with excellent service.

Its location is great: in the city center, close to the Roman ruins, and only a few minutes' walk from the train station.

This converted former 18th century convent (among other former incarnations) is perfectly located within 10 minutes walk from the main sights.

You can walk to all the cites, except the circus.

However, quality of food excellent and you walk directly into town.
