There is so much to say about this place, let's focus on the breakfast experience which resemble more an East German hotel in the 80s than a 4-star hotel in 2022:

The room was quite comfortable with very good a/c (during late July), and there were good eating facilities for breakfast, afternoon snack/drink, and a nice restaurant.

the staff is friendly though, breakfast is good.

Breakfast had almost everything we wanted.

Breakfast is superb and the restaurant is good.

The selections were numerous and the food delicious,

Excellent breakfast composed of high quality local products.

but breakfast was good (and included option of eggs benedict ) .

The restaurant was also very good as was the breakfast which provided excellent choice.

The staff are excellent as is the breakfast (with the added bonus of a Nespresso machine in the bedroom!).

This property had an excellent location, parking, fantastic service, great rooms and baths, and a delicious dinner and breakfast.

The hotel is amazing and located within easy walking distance of all the historic sites which are a must for visitors to this lovely city.

Close enough to the Roman Bridge and Arabic fort for an easy walk.

The location is good being an easy walk to all the major attractions.

A comfortable and spacious hotel with good secure parking and within easy walking distance of the historic buildings.

Easy walk to Roman Teatro and the National  Museum  of ancient Roman art.

We had prepaid so check-in should have been quick and easy.

A well situated historic parador, ideally sited for easy exploration of the Roman heart of the city.

It is a bit of a rabbit warren and easy to get lost in.

The Parador is well situated for foot access to all of Merida's main sights - the Roman theatre/amphitheatre are about 10 minutes' easy walk away, as is the town centre, Roman Bridge, Alcazabar and St Eulalia.

The Parador is within easy walking distance to the Roman Amphitheatre, Roman Theatre and the Alcazar

The Roman remains are a 10 minute easy walk, and a must to visit if you are staying here.

Reasonably easy to access in this traffic controlled town.

Skip the "guided tour of the hotel " offered daily because basically he shows you the  grounds which you can see on your own, and the guide just wants you to hire him to help you tour Merida, which is very easy on your own.

Staff are pleasant tho.Merida itself has a good Roman amphitheater & some ruins and walking around is easy with a nice pedestrian precinct too.

Access by car was easy using Google Maps directions.

The Parador is within easy walking distance of some of the most magnificent Roman ruins you will find anywhere in Europe.

but worth it - it wouldn't be easy to street-park close by).

small bathroom and to add insult to injury there was a sewerage smell in the corridor outside, thankfully no smell inside the bedroom.

the w/e we stayed coincided with a few events so the corridors (all tiled) were noisy with kids running up and down and the function rooms were all occupied just to add to the noise!..i did complain (several times) and was very reluctantly offered free parking for a day.

Only slight negatives were: it could get a bit noisy in corridor with other guests at times

It was kind of fun exploring the halls as it was something of a maze to get to the elevator.

Rooms are noisy, you can hear what is going on next to you, above and in the corridors.

For people who are a bit infirm be aware that there are some long corridors to navigate between parts of the hotel.

It need also some refreshment, especially in the hallways where a carpet of more than 20jaar is old.

but that means high heels click a lot so we were woken several times by noise from the corridor, Also we were unlucky and had the last person to arrive back at 3 am.

Walking down a Parador's corridor feels like going inside a medieval castle.

On the down side, be aware that the doors are "really" thin, and that you tend to hear everything what is happening in the corridors from your room (and vice-versa).

There were old 70s-looking chairs and sofas in the hallways.

The reception desk is down two corridors, past a restaurant, through a bar, and down another corridor.

The Parador in Merida is in a converted 18th century convent, and the cloister and corridors still evoke the history of the building.

It is clear that the corridors  and the rooms need renovation.

But the corridors and our room needed badly a renovation.

The Parador itself is a bit of a labyrinth of hallways and courtyards,

but when we arrived many dishes were empty and staff were slow in replacing them.

Service was exceptionally slow (probably due to a busy Saturday afternoon), not particularly friendly, and the food quality was mediocre, far inferior to that of other paradores.

Breakfasts were only average  and service in the bars was quite slow and basic.

Also the internet connection is rather too slow.

the restaurant staff, including the maitre d' seemed overwhelmed by the number of Sunday night guests, and service was slow and inefficient.

Service is slow at the bar, and the restaurant is mediocre.

Breakfast was good once everything arrived, would not advise going in before 9am food was slow in coming out and was not all hot as expected.

This slow deterioration was particularly visible in our bathroom, where the caulking around the bathtub was in bad need of repair.

Negative points, the garage has incredibly tight places with stone pillars in between so if you have a biggish car maybe you should consider parking elsewhere.

We could not gain access to their underground car park and had to park in a tight area in their rear entrance.

Yje underground carpark is a nightmare with very few tight spaces and no turning space.

The hotel had an underground car park which could be extremely tight and hazardous to squeeze the car into a space.

The underground car park is a mess and cluttered with old hotel dross making parking difficult in very tight spaces.

but 'Amigos' members get a reduced rate in the rather tight garage.

Spacious with just one dodgy tight turn on exit.

The first is that because it is located in the centre of town it is a bit of a challenge to find and get into with your car and once there the underground car park is a bit tight if you are driving a larger vehicle.

Thirdly the car parking is very expensive and very tight- someone very kindly scratched our hire car which we only discovered, at our further cost, on its return to the gleeful hire company.

Nice hotel with an historic character, excellent location at walking distance of all Roman sites to visit , remarkable restaurant for dinner ( if not the best, one of the best dinners we have made in Spain this summer).

The hotel is ideally situated to visit the Roman ruins, Roman bridge and other historical places of interest in the city.

It is a pleasure to visit the town with fine Roman architecture.

The Parador of Mérida is located in a strategic place to visit the monuments and the entire historical center of the city.

Merida is a fantastic place to visit , very family friendly with amazing Roman ruins and other historical buildings right in the middle of the town.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, giving us ideas of places to visit and directions to some of the sights.

The garden and pool was a nice place to relax after a long day visiting antiquities.

but in Junt it was s memorable visit with no downsides whatsoever.

In a good central location for visiting the old Roman sites all reasonable walking distance .

The hotel is in a good location for visiting most of the archeological sites in the city, as well as walking distance to restaurants and shopping.

The female receptionist who checked us in ( and out 3 days later co0incidentally) was the most impolite Spanish person we have met on 3 separate month long visits.

And located a few steps of all th emain sites to visit in Merida, a city full of charme.

but the site was perfect for Merida and some good visits around,

though we did need to drive to the Circus Maximus Overall a good night's stay and a perfect place to stay when visiting Merida

We intend to return with other friends and visit the local sights.

I would definitely visit it again if we get back to Merida.

Anyone interested in history, specifically the Roman history, has to visit Extremadura and Merida.

Everything was just perfect, the beautiful decor and so tastefully furnished it was just a pleasure to walk around and absorb the history.

Starting with the positive points I would say the hotel's location is ok, a 20 min walk to the Roman ruins.

Everything in walking distance and a nice walk in the evening over the Roman bridge before diner is a good experience.

Conveniently located within a short walk to the main square and river prom.

Despite Merida being small, it is well located and the most we walked was 20 minutes to the Circus (everything else is around 10 minutes) - loads of communal spaces to relax and nice garden.

The hotel is located in the centre of Mérida so you can walk everywhere.

Walking just outside takes you into the town, which is pleasantly attractive and has some roman remains, for example a complete arch.

The staff were delightful, the rooms were comfortable and spotless: I even loved the slightly old fashioned shower-bath combo (nothing irritates me more than over designed elaborate showers in hotels - I want a hot, powerful shower, not a sense of walking through Spring rain.

The place is conveniently located for the local sights - we walked to the Roman remains very easily - and there is secure parking on site.

They provided a 4 hour walking tour of the city and music both nights in the restaurant.

We also to a long relaxing walk to view several of the ancient aqueducts.

So we got up and walked out going down the road where found a lovely restaurant with excellent service.

Its location is great: in the city center, close to the Roman ruins, and only a few minutes' walk from the train station.

This converted former 18th century convent (among other former incarnations) is perfectly located within 10 minutes walk from the main sights.

You can walk to all the cites, except the circus.

However, quality of food excellent and you walk directly into town.

We drove and the arrival is weird, you must go to the garage first and then attempt to find reception (it is like a maze with many hallways and poor directions) The hallways smelled of some kind of disinfectant-I opened several windows.

Bedroom was ridiculous, uncomfortable beds, horrible furniture, small windows.

You had a choice of either closing the windows and stifling with no air or opening the window and freezing.

although sound insulation is poor because of the older, wooden window frames.

We therefore had to have all our windows open overnight and such is the noise from Plaza Espagna and around we had a very troubled night.

but with small windows in the style of the buildings original use.

The bathroom was a little tired with chipping paint on the ceiling and around the the window frame.

though there isn't much atmosphere, our room was on the crappy side: small, with a small, barred window (why was it barred? we were on the 2nd floor!)

My mother wanted to buy some earrings being shown in the window,

Our room was oppressively hot, and even after we had turned off the heating and opened the windows it was too hot to sleep comfortably.

but extremely impractical.Then after checking in you again need to climb some stairs,cross a patio or two and return to the elevator up to the room.The room itself was spacious by european standards but overlooked a dark alley,about 4 meters from the  apartments across the alley .Therefore u cannot open the window for air for reasons of privacy.Bathroom was superb,large and modern.we paid 100 euro for a couple +child w/.extra bed.Breakfast was extra as was parking.

The hotel is conveniently located on the main square in Merida.

My room was located at the back of the hotel and very quiet.

The location was excellent, right across the plaza and easy walk everywhere.

the location is not 5 minutes from the centre.

The location of the hotel is brilliant, the architecture, the room, the style and the service was on top.

It's location is central so perfect for cocktails in the square to people watch.

In spite of this we will go back because it is a nice place in excellent location.

We chose the Ilunion hotel due to its position and reviews we had seen.

The location is excellent at the head of de Plaza Espana (including city noises during the night), the central hall an lobby are more than beautiful designed, the rooms are spacious, the bathroom is superclean, we had very good beds.

Located in front of the Plaza Mayor at 5 minutes of major attractions.

It is very central in the main plaza so walking to all the Roman sights is within less than ten minutes.

Location is perfect, across central plaza and walking distance to restaurants.

Perfect location situated on the Plaza Espana which is surrounded by a large variety of shops and restaurants.

Location facing the Plaza Dr Espana is where you can drop your cases off and the hotel faces.

And the view was truly magnificent as my room was overlooking the Plaza 😍😍😍 (Please see photos)

The staff were very helpful and friendly.

The location itself is very nice, right on the main plaza in the center of the old town.

The location is right in Plaza Espagna; convenient for walking to archeological sites from Roman to Islam to the more recent Christian period, for food or just to wander around the surroundings.

We had a room overlooking the main plaza.

The first floor really stinks of smoke and the rooms not facing the plaza have quite terrible views.

It did not help that we were given a large smoking room with dual aspect windows at the rear of the hotel (despite specifying NS on reservation) and then moved to a small internal room with a window into the room from a seating area in a corridor.

Apart from the mould in the mini bath/shower, dust, cobwebs, being given a smoking room where the beds smelt of smoke, the smoke alarm being switched off, and an old TV with no English channel( like all the other numerous Spanish hotel we have stayed at).

even though it was supposed to be a non-smoking room, so I asked if there was another room available.

You can buy a ticket to visit all the Roman ruins.

This hotel is perfectly placed for visiting the city.

Merida is a wonderful city so glad we visited.

Our first ever visit to Merida, using it as a stop over from our journey from the Algarve to Santander, not disappointed, Merida is an interesting place with Roman and other historic artefacts, as a city it is very clean and most vibrant.

The Ilunion Merida heightened my wonderful visit to Merida -- right in the middle of the Roman and Gothic ruins.

It is located centrally and ideal for visiting all the Roman remains.

Will definitely stay again if visiting Mérida.

It can rival those in Rome) Staff at the hotel was friendly, polite and gave us useful information on where to visit and to dine out.

Sights include the Roman bridge just a couple of hundred meters away, The other Roman remains are well worth a visit.

Apart from a couple of smll technical issues with the a/c and kettle, would definitely recommend if visiting this area.

We stayed one night in Merida, mainly to visit the Roman historical sites, which were very interesting.

Merida was only a one night stop off for us between Madrid and Jerez and we wanted to visit the Roman museum which incidentally did not disappoint it was amazing!.

We visited Merida at the end of October, in the low tourist season, and this hotel came up in our accommodation search at an amazingly low price for its 5* quality standards.

Stayed for three nights on touristic visit to Merida.

Service was friendly and helpful - the receptionist kindly pointing out the spots to visit.

Highly recommend this hotel as a place to stay while visiting Merida.

Even after visiting Italy and Greece, this city still impresses.

The hotel is in a great location for walking to the main historical sites such as the Roman theatre/amphitheatre, the Alccazaba, and the Roman bridge which are all worth a visit.

The good was the breakfast spread - you won't see anything like that in a Best Western!

The buffet breakfast was good value and served in an attractive room.

The breakfast is really good and continental style, it is worthy to include the breakfast on your reservation.

Breakfast was amazing and last nights dinner was excellent too with very good inexpensive wine.

service is excellent , Breakfast is very good, i stay here over 3 weeks and i will rent this room again when i am back in Merida .

Breakfast is awesome and  having it you can get energy for the full day.

We had a drink in the bar and then went out for dinner - local pizza place was quick and excellent, and got very, very busy soon after we arrived. Next day after a good breakfast (my daughter liked the fact that sweets were one of the options!)

Breakfast is excellent with a very large choice of food.

but not too bad, the rooms were okay overlooking the supermarket next door, but it had not bad meal, and breakfast was quite good.

We found it to be the case with housekeeping (room was clean), and also the breakfast ladies.

Breakfast was extensive with a good range of fresh fruit, juices, eggs meats, breads and cereals overlooking the terraced garden.

but in English staff very friendly and helpful found out our first names after dinner and wrote them in the foam on the top of our coffees You have dinner in the bar bur breakfast in the Dinning room seems funny but not a problem we all had a fantastic time and will return again

We only stayed one night and breakfast was delicious with lots of choice.
