Well located close to the beach and walking areas.

Also only another 5mins walk to where the main shopping areas are located with live street entertainment and bands.

but definitely better in some areas of the hotel.

Public, shared areas were very grand and pleasant.

but the area leaves something to be desired.

The exterior of the hotel is very stately and some of the public areas are indeed very grand and somewhat imposing.

It is squarely in the tourist area, right on the beach front of the busiest strip of the beach.

The area around it is pleasant and there are lots of good small restaurants nearby.

When we asked at reception for a recommendation for guided tours of the area, we were waved dismissively towards some very odd buses on the Plaza Colon.

The whole area needs demolished and updated.

Amenities were extremely poor: 2 shampoos, 2 conditioners, and 2 soaps.

Old stained carpets, horrible smell, shredded bed linens, dirty furniture, the bathroom cabinet lock is a rusted nail!

I would advise taking your own coat hangers and bath plug.

I managed to get warm water in the shower once.

Showers didn't have much pressure or warm water.

The whole area seems to be a dogs toilet and no one appears to clear it up - its horrible.

but only small bars of soap for washing your body.

Great location, easy access to the beach and if you decide to park yourself is a little far from the hotel.

It’s a remodeled historic building on the beach with endless halls and friendly staff.

Very comfortable and stylish hotel, pleasant service and a good breakfast, the hotel is right on the beach with a private pool, this is a place to live when you're in the Mar del Plata.

And when you see the crowds on the beach, you will be very glad!

We loved our spacious room with its glimpses of nearby Bristol Beach and the Atlantic!

Location: It is on the Bristol Beach in central Mar del Plata.

And as guests  we had the choice of either having our own tent near the beach or a table and chairs near the pool.

The hotel is in a great location right by the seafront and accessible by walking to the many restaurants, clubs and shops.

We planned a side trip from BA in search of a few days on the beach.

The building is magnificent and in a stunning beachfront location.

We spent two nites at this large and wide hotel at end of Octubre 2012, the reception is fantastic, the room is wide with ocean view, the hotel is right on the beach next to the casino (of same style),

You can hardly find a place to sit on the beach unless you stake out a spot by 8 am.

What can I say about the location - it's on the beach, with a private tunnel leading to it.

but the beach is nicer and everything goes so smoothly!

Breakfast is barely ok and dinner is average at most with prices much higher than the average of the truly good restaurants of the city.

Beds were super comfortable and breakfast was abundantly delicious.

Breakfast was pretty standard too with cakes, jam and cheese, fruits, youghurts with about 4-5 kind of cereals, coffee, tea, juice.

however is friendly and helpful, the rooms clean and comfortable, and the included breakfast more than satisfactory.

The breakfast in the main floor restaurant was amazing.

For an alternative really yummy little Argentinian cakes that went down really well with a good cup of coffee or tea.

The staff is extremely helpful, and speak English well--a request for a stopper for my bathtub on my way to breakfast resulted in one in the room when I returned.

I particulary liked the fact that we could order an earlybird breakfast.

Very good breakfast, and prices are comparable to other much less attractive options.

Unfortunately what matters in an hotel is the quality of the rooms and the food, and especially the breakfast.

Buffet breakfast was included and its presentation was quite good, varied and generous.

We were thoroughly delighted with everything from the beauty of the old-world building, the near-everything location, the reception service, the room, the amenities the outdoor pool, cabanas,and especially the indoor pool, spa and gym for too-hot outdoor days, the beautiful and delicious huge breakfast, and the available WiFi.

So far, the breakfast staff have been very nice and relish the opportunity to practice their English.

We enjoyed a friendly atmosphere, a wonderful breakfast buffet with so much variety and lots of food.

We enjoyed the history of this hotel and the central location for the Ironman completion.

The location is pretty central - so that's a plus.

The main appeal of the hotel is its locations.

The It´s location is great, at least for the off season months, not too sure about summer time.

The hotel is located in a tradicional palace built by the great argentinean architect Alejandro Bustillo.

The location is excellent, on the beach and next to the casino.

I liked the hotel and would recommend it to other people, we paid 140US$ a night in low season, with it's great location I can imagine this going up quite a bit in peak times.

You can get much better for USD$170.00 in most countries, and particularly in such a poor country like Argentina is today.

Lack of communication / speaking almost no English, poor guest or rather lack of guest interaction, poor food and lack of variety, lack of decor and warmth makes this once beautiful hotel just another building with rooms - will not recommend for any of my friends.

Gym was poor, not much equipment was in working order and it was very small for the size and status of the hotel.

We were there in a team capacity so the food provided in the evening was quite poor.

There is also a lot of poor quality graffiti around, which really makes the area look bad.

It made my very poor Spanish easily dismissed.

Breakfast was packed of people and very poor.

but the poor lighting, the few decor items, or the large building that made the place somewhat depressing.

Shampoo was made of soap.You had to pay extra to go to the swimming pool!

Very basic bar with excellent and inexpensive wine by the glass (at a store you'll pay more)

but the cost of a table with parasol is 300 pesos per day, and to a N.M traveler, a feature that should be included without charge.

However you do need to pay more for a sunbed and an umbrella.

The beach is public, overcrowded, dirty, a lot of stray dogs in the city and on the beach. 4.

This was one of the most expensive rooms in a so called 5 stars hotel.

but rough around the edges- we asked to upgrade and pay more for a nicer one but were told we had the best room, I am not sure if this is true because the website shows pictures of much nicer rooms so maybe there was a miscommunication.

We paid  a tad over $100 US for 2 people .

There were problems with the booking, that had been pre-booked and paid for in full.

but filthy and you have to pay $25 (USD) a day to rent 4 chairs and a table.

As we were here in March, it was slightly quieter in Mar Del Plata and had lower prices than Jan. and Feb.

The rooms are huge, the staff is super friendly to English speakers, it has the widest halls we have ever seen.

But no complaints overall with the location, room size, & history.

but the general condition of the rooms, for instance, is very good.

The architecture is really beautiful, with massive corridors, big heavy doors, very spacious rooms, wood floors everyone (corridors and rooms).

Had a double room with sea view, really beautfiul.

The rooms are of reasonable size and are pretty comfortable.

On a positive note the rooms  were spacious and very clean and housekeeping did a good job.

In summer holiday it must be packed rooms a large & cleaned regularly

The architecture is top notch, very friendly staff and great views.

The straff was amazingly helpfull troughout our stay.

Everyone at the front desk was helpful and happy to help at all times.

The hotel staff were very pleasant and helpful with recommendations, information on places to visit and making dinner reservations.

Personnel is very friendly and professional.

but as a winter visitor it was run with very few staff.

worth looking at if you are ever in Mar del plate, grand building of yesteryear staff spoke English which is not spoken wildly beakfast ok wi fi better in late eaving early morning.

The hot water pool wasn't working when I was there, which was a bit of a disappointment,

though its water was pretty foggy by noon each day with everyone sunscreen being washed off there.

We should have got warning signs when a taxi driver in BA laughed at us for going and said we should not swim in the dirty water (he was right and we didn't).

Before breakfast yesterday I went for a swim, and the water was filthy.

It was filled with tepid green cloudy water.

Oh, and once it came of course, many times the elevator was packed!

In addition there are not stairways (emergency only) and the elevators took forever!

We just hope that for the summer season the elevator's overhaul has been finished.

The Hotel is living on past fame, it is currently the most expensive hotel in the city and proud to be a five star, while they only give you a three star experience.

Superrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr expensive everything.

In all we only had to pay $210 usd for the night.

The price for a cabana rent is about 50$, which is not for free to put it mildly.

Maybe the restaurants should improve and are to expensive.

No early breakfast (included of course in the price) option. .

but one has to be aware that it is a very expensive hotel.

For the price you're paying they should really have better medialunas.

The only reason I am being critical of this hotel is that we had to pay USD $276 per night and for this, in other cities, you do get ultra-modern facilities.

Overall, it was too expensive for a mediocre hotel,

We had a booth and paid for 60 nights (md´s and nurses).

If you want to go into "downdown" just take a cab, it is going to cost you a couple dollars or less!

Also on the back you have Alem Street full of pubs, restaurants, souvenirs, and very alive specially at night.

Their publicity with great food, Dj's and the very talented singer Miguel Cherutti was interesting because they stated it owuld be inolvidable.

This is a fantastic hotel with classic architecture, excellent service in all restaurants and bars as well as room service.

The hotel is OK, Rooms, Elevators, bars, common areas and Restaurants work just fine.

The selection of food itself – pretty good though: a lot of fresh fruits, pastries and sweets, juices, some meat cuts and cheese.

but we also did enjoy the city and the history , food, shops and attractions.

For example, the food was good, for example.

The spa is amazing and the food even better.

They also never explained anything about the hotel (breakfast, spa, restaurants, amenities, etc.).

When I asked in the morning for a reservation to be made for dinner at a restaurant and then spent the entire day until 7 at night out, I was very happily surprised to find in my room a note with the information of the restaurant and the reservation!

We didn't try the restaurants (but the menus are reasonably-priced) and forgot to take gym gear to try the fitness club.

We had breakfast and lunch at  La Terraza restaurant and were very happy with the quality of the food and service.

Lot of good fruits.There are some good restaurants in the area.

So definatley plan ahead to have food available for the afternoon hours if you like to eat then.

We had room service for dinner each night.

Great staff, comfortable rooms, excellent beach access, it's "THE" spot to enjoy this beautiful city.

Our room with a view of the ocean was very nice and the bed was awesome comfortable!

The upgraded room had a complete sea view.

We had a room with a king bed, which in reality was two beds connected into one with a slot in the middle.

Short scenario of pros and cons:  Pros:  location, swimming pool cute with power jets stations, spa (Sol is great and speaks English), indoor hot tubs and view of the beach, staff friendly, room maids are very efficent.

The rooms were of a decent size and the beds were comfortable.

The staff was pleasant and very helpful and the room was clean and we had a great view of the beach, thats the good.

The room was very comfortable and clean, the view to the ocean was unbelievable.

Third, the man in the room adjoining ours felt like he was IN our room.

However the room offers any amenities, sheets and towels are changed everyday, room service is quick, efficient and reasonably priced.

You can stay all day at the hotel if you wish, resting, at the jacuzzi observing the beach activity, having a massage, or simply reading at the pool area.

In the next days we enjoyed the outside pool, the very clean Spa, and the most vast slection of breakfast you can imagine.

The spa is a really nice feature for the off-season!

The spa is well equipped and kept, they have a great outdoor pool and the breakfast is awesome.

We used and enjoyed all the facilities, pool by the ocean, heated pool on the third floor, spa.

The hotel has its own spa and outdoor swimming pool, garage facilities with valet parking,excellent dining facility, as well as well appointed and spacious rooms.

We used the gym, the hairdresser and had a massage.

The kids activities were great, the club level 5 star, the breakfast great, we used the spa, pools, etc and was great.

The spa area is great, and the views of the Atlantic Ocean from the jacuzzis on the second floor is an experience that nobody staying at this hotel should miss.

I also took advantage of the spa - I had a wonderful shiatsu massage with a reflexology treatment.

but really what they are doing is offering less with less personnel, they make you reserve one day in advance for breakfast, sauna, pool use etc .

What I usually appreciate is a pragmatic attitude: Things should function and be uncomplicated.

From the doorman to the front desk, I received only smiles and the desire to help me.

We had two of the best suites they offer and the view was very nice though.

Located right in front of the beach Playa Grande in the city Mar del Plata, surrounded by sea activities, walking oportunities around the area.

Location is awesome, excellent views, very good premises.

but walking across the street brings one to the roads leading down to the harbour and the sea with beautiful views.

Rooms were good, I had partial seaview which gave a good panorama at sunrise.

I was very lucky so as to book a suite with a great view.

Costa Galana is an elegant Hotel with an exhilarating view of the Ocean.

The location was good and the view very nice,

Beautiful views, clean, and well equipped.

but at any one time only 1 would move for whatever reason and the waits were unbearable to get one.

After we waited for another attendant, they never apologized for the delay.
