WC has a separate door and after using the WC you have to enter through another solid door into the bathroom to wash your hands.

The bathroom door was cracked and doesn’t close good, and bathroom very small

However, there was no door to the bathroom and no curtain for its frosted glass window; consequently there was no way of blocking off the lights from outside.

The superior room could not be darkened for an afternoon nap becausee there was no door to the bathroom and no curtains on the bathroom window.

The only strange thing was having no door to the bathroom

A suggestion (many have mentioned the limited storage) would be to add a couple of hooks behind the bathroom door - a small change that would make a huge difference.

I noticed the bathroom mirror never steam up after showering (with the bathroom door closed).

but separated across from the bathroom door.

but the downside was the breakfast room was a bit cramped; & ventilation could have been better.

The breakfast has to be improved (the breakfast rooms are too small, the renewal of food and drink is too slow.

The breakfast room is small and buffet style,  I think it was expensive at 29 euro per person.

The quality was not good, the breakfast room is unpleasant and it was filled to the last place, making breakfast an experience like in a station.

For a large hotel the breakfast room is very small - you have to squeeze around the island on which the buffet is displayed.

I think it is more like a pettit or boutique hotel as it doesn't has those huge receptions and breakfast rooms.

The room was so small comparing to the size of the hotel and for me it was a pity to start the day in such a small room for breakfast.

Having had quite a stressful drive through a very busy Saturday in Lyon we were delighted when the hotel offered a car valet and parking service.

So busy and such a tiny room that they put you in another meeting room, not very nice or romantic.

On the Saturday waited about 20 minutes for more eggs, you know the hotel is busy, it's peak breakfast time, just keep them coming, no excuses.

though the two rooms set aside for it are small and can get a little crowded when things are busy.

We enjoyed opening the doors during the day for the view and to hear what was going on in the busy square below.

We were on the third floor of rooms which translated into a fifth floor walkup if one did not want to wait for the elevator during busy times.

but needs to be checked out when not during busy exhibition times as the price for the night was unbelievable for a 4 stars hotel.

We could here almost nothing from the busy square outside once the windows are closed.

although we did sometimes have to wait to be seated or served coffee (it was always busy around 8:30-9am).

We avoided having breakfast in the busy dining room, opting instead to sit at various cafés in the squares nearby.

We did not hear other rooms even if it was a very busy weekend.

We were given rm 317 on the side that faces a somewhat busy area,

Take the C5 bus to Parc de Tete or the International City Center convention center.

The  location in downtown city allows you to walk around the city with out using the transportation.

The location of the hotel is perfect (for those who's getting into/from city in a car, and for all the touristy places around it).

The hotel is ideally located in the city centre and in walking distance to most of the attractions in the city.

The location was ideal for seeing the city by foot.

My husband booked a room with Hotel Carlton Lyon via Le Accor, loved that they had the option of bundling the room with a free Lyon City Pass which allowed us to roam around with less hassle since this included free transportation via metro/buses and entrances to certain attractions.

The hotel is in a really good location close to the city centre and not far from the old town.

A wide array of restaurants, shopping, and attractions (Vieux Lyon is only a 10-15 minute walk) are all nearby, as is easy access to the city's underground light rail system.

It was easy walking distance to anything you'd like to do in the city center.

Lyon is a fabulous city and the hotel was a good base to enjoy it.

The staff still stored our luggage for a few hours so we could enjoy the city and good food.

The staff is lovely from the wonderful reception you receive upon check in to any question about the city you require.

but for anyone wanting to be in the Centre of the city, the hotel offers the perfect base.

The entrance is on the alley-sized Rue de Jussie with a small foyer leading to the Bar Rouge/Lounge and a small Front Desk serviced by a welcoming, friendly and always very helpful Reception staff.

The Hotel is centrally located and close to all major sights

The location, which is only 5 minutes walk from the old town, and has many good shops and restaurants/cafes very close by was great.

Lyon travel center located next to the hotel provides excellent guidelines for tourism.

The hotel location was ideal - in between the two rivers and within walking distance of shops, patisseries, cafes and places of interest.

The location of the hotel in the peninsula was ideal to walk to Vieux Lyon plus there were shops and restaurants nearby.

The location is excellent, the room was a good size, the hotel and the room were impeccably clean, the bed was excellent, and all interactions with the staff were excellent - polite and professional.

Stayed 3 nights and the hotel's location cannot be beat.

It's located on a pretty, quiet square with trees & a large fountain adjacent to a traffic-free zone, 1 block in from the Rhone River, & a few blocks north of Place Bellecour.

The hotel could not be in a better location to explore Lyon.

Not only did she recommend a great local restaurant for a Saturday night

however the staff here were wonderful and remembered our order each time we sat for a pre dinner drink.

The food snacks available on room service were also very good.

but best to grab a croissant and coffee elsewhere and have a hearty lunch later, like the French do, IMO.

When asked about restaurants he happily gave us some tips & he even booked us in one of the bouchon in the square and one of the restaurants in the old town.

Our favorite restaurants were:  Musee, La Assiette sur la Place and Bouchon Les Lyonnaise.

There are many restaurants nearby, & Vieux-Lyon (the old town) is about 20 minutes away across a pedestrian bridge.

And, the staff is very helpful and guided us to two fantastic restaurants for dinners.

We chose to have breakfast served in the room and the meal was enjoyed on the balcony.

They helped with every question a dummy tourist could have, and they had wonderful recommendations for food and other things we asked them for.

Staff were very helpful and in particular in organising bookings for us at restaurants.

This hotel has a strategic location to explore nearby sites such as Paul Bucose food market (within 15 mins walk).

The front desk helped with a restaurant booking when we arrived on a busy Saturday night.

The staff of the hotel were superb and really helped with recommendations of the best places to eat in town.

Tons of shopping and restaurants in walking distance.

There is no lobby area to speak of so waiting for friends and pick ups is a bit cramped.

The only downside is the lack of storage for clothes in the room,

The rooms are very small and the hotel itself just feels incredibly cramped!

However there was absolutely no drawer space!

but just standing somewhere because there was no space.

though with some quirky spaces in the bathroom and toilet areas.

No drawers, a lack of lighting over mirrors, no stopper in the hand basin which wastes water.

Our room was very small – and indeed a bit cramped –

(Two people could use this room as well as long as they are okay with a smaller space).

Apparently, according to the front desk, what we had reserved as a "classic double room" for the equivalent of $185 per night was significantly inferior to  the extremely unexciting, very ordinary, somewhat cramped room we got for $20+ more per night. And this is the thing I dislike most about corporate chain hotels:  the way they debase the language by calling "superior" what in any honest way of speaking should be called "standard."

Finding a space to load and unload is something of a lottery.

but with little room for storage around the basin.

In short, the dining space is not adequate for the number of guests as people choose to linger over their meal.

However:
The bathroom in our first room (on the 4th floor) was very cramped and the lighting level was too low to read comfortably for any length of time.

Our standard room was small, with two suitcases not much floor space.

There was insufficient hanging space for two two people.

I would have preferred to have a night table with drawers in it for more discretion.

Sometimes their contacts will be on the greeting cards in my room.

Staying at The Hotel Carlton was an exceptionally pleasant experience.

On arrival we were treated very well with a porter whisking our luggage away while we booked into the hotel.

We were greeted by a cheerful & polite chap on reception and everything was clearly explained in good English.

He also helped us with our luggage and dealt with us at the reception.

Beautiful place to be if you wanna visit Lyon, the staff were really nice and helpful.

We had a few changes in our booking that was managed with great professionalism.

The reception and breakfast staff were wonderful.

My 5-star rating requires some explanation, as not everything was 5-star about this hotel.

nevertheless our two suitcases were opened in the only available area so the bathroom door couldn’t be opened without moving o e of them….and the shelve for the TV was so close that we had to hang a shirt on it to warn us not to hit our heads,,, in the end it became comical….

Thank goodness, because carrying our 46 pound suitcase up the stairs would have been tough.

We found this to be the case in smaller restaurants for lunch as well.

Due to space limitations, the  elevator is typically very cramped, sufficient for two people and their suitcases.

Let's just say it appears that the linens and pillow cases had not been changed.

We had to leave at 3:20 am to catch our flight, they arranged the transportation for us, confirmed the night before and gave us the driver's mobile phone number just in case.

Room was small with little room for two carry on cases

The rooms are small and cluttered so it was difficult to place suitcases and move around the room.

Narrow staircase not ideal for big people & heavy suitcases - the lift could only fit 1 person in so not really suited for a family.

The hanging space consisted of some hangers over the only place I could put my suitcase.

but Tracy and I don't mind a bit of adventure and after working out the best configuration for the suitcases we were very happy with the layout - after all, you only really need somewhere to wash and sleep.. the rest of the time you're out and about.

City hotel rooms in France are small as was the case here

nb the elevator only goes to the 5th floor so we have to carry our suitcases up the last flight - easy due to a wide and low staircase.excellent 2 star hotel

although quite old and not an impressive entrance (need to take lift or stairs to first floor reception) was a quaint and a comfortable stay for 3 nights in Lyon.

When you arrive at this hotel you will initially wonder what you have walked into, it has a tight entrance way and a very old lift, and a tight circular staircase.

The hotel looks old from the outside and from the entrance,

The stairs are old, and the entrance is dark at night.

The entrance is a bit disconcerting, being an electronically-operated door that allows you to reach reception up some quaint stairs.

However we were a bit taken aback by the crammed entrance, backpacker's wall painting and narrow staircase.

When you come up the elevator from the garage, you'll be directly in front of the Theatre Celestins and literally only about 50 to 75 yards from the hotel entrance.

Don't be put off by the rather forbidding entrance and the tiny lift; upstairs, the staff are welcoming and the place has charm even if it's not super chic.

The ground floor entrance was initially a bit daunting,

The front lobby and entrance is very small and dark, and the elevator is extremely small.

Don't be pit off by the rather shabby hotel entrance and thr fact that the first time you need to be buzzed in to get to  the second floor cramped check in desk .

Staff was friendly and allowed us to store bags for 2 hours after check-out.

The staff are extremely helpful and friendly and they speak good English if you don’t speak French.

Stepping in from the street we immediately got a bit of a hemmed in feeling - the hall and staircase up as well as our room being a bit cramped.

The bathroom is not in line with the concept, slightly too modern and the same can be said with the corridor colors.

The entryway to the hotel is a little off-putting initially: bare, gray hallway to a tiny elevator.

As has been mentioned by others, you need a key to enter floor 1 off the street, which is just a hallway to the elevator or stairs, as the hotel desk is on floor 2.

We were a little disconcerted at first, entering the hotel via its narrow hallway and tiny lift up to the first floor reception.

You must be buzzed in from the street (or use your key after hours), use a key to access the hallway to your room and then, of course, use your room key to get into your room.

Our room was one of around six on a small corridor accessed via a heavy door, and many/most guests seemed to be in there, making it pretty noisy till around 2am.

I see some reviews say a little run down, everything was fine in our room, the halls and stair are tight so sure they are a little dinged up from the luggage

Your room key is required for access to that hallway.

The hallways to the rooms are also very basic and a bit forbidding,

Only criticism was that the wifi would not work in the room, so you had to use the hall, or the downstairs eating area to access wifi.

The hallways and stairwells were a little worn and could stand some updating - not shabby by any means, just not crisp and new.

It is like an apartment building so you get a key to a certain floor and enter that part of the corridor with your key where there are then about four rooms.

We had to sit in the hallway in our pajamas to check our email and surf the web at night.

Short walk (2min) to the place Bellecour, and most of the spots such as Place des Terreaux or Vieux Lyon are within short walking distance.

A short walk to Vieux Lyon in one direction, and a shopping district in the other.

From there it is a short walk over any of the many bridges crossing the Soanne into the Old Town.

Hotel is perfectly located 100m from Bellcour Metro and within a short walk of the Rhone, Soane.

The hotel is a short walk to plenty restaurants, the Metro and the river.

Vieux Lyon is a short walk across the Saône River.

Easy and short walk to the old section of Lyon.
