Breakfast was excellent and staff was very helpful, especially when I thought I had lost my passport!

Centrally located, charming with a spacious room, excellent breakfast and a most accommodating staff.

There was a daily breakfast that had nice pastries, coffee, eggs, etc.

The excellent breakfast began a day of stepping out into the ideal locale in Lyon.

The breakfast room was charming and the food was simple and delicious.

Great location, traditional French hotel rather than sleek and modern, clean room with good air conditioning, daily housekeeping, wonderful breakfast, staff were welcoming and helpful, answered all our questions.

The breakfast was delicious with fresh fruits, croissants , breads granola and yogurt.

We ate breakfast at the hotel several mornings and enjoyed the cheerful room and buffet with yogurt, cheese & sausages, pastries, cold hard boiled eggs, small selection of cereals, option to cook your own soft boiled egg, juice, coffee and tea.

They will not tell you that there is a breakfast shop two doors up the street.

We had breakfast at the hotel for three of our four mornings, and visitors who skip this are really missing out.

Breakfast each day was included, and all guests got fresh coffee.

We arrived early in the day and were immediately offered coffee and breakfast by Marjorie who was manning reception at that point in time.

Its narrow entrance is wedged between two retail shops; nothing presents itself to the newcomer except for an empty hallway, a forbidding set of stairs and a tiny elevator that will hold three people who know each other very well.

the lift goes to the 5th floor and "Bouillette" is then reached up a flight of stairs on the 6th floor.

Like many French hotels, the elevator is extremely small, holding possibly two people in their luggage.

Yes, some of the rooms are fairly small and the lift is not the largest.

but there is an elevator to help carry bags.

The hotel has a small elevator, good wifi and air conditioning.

The single elevator is quite small and when it malfunctioned during our stay, we Seniors had to walk long flights of old stone steps to/from our room.

This is a very typical European hotel, (reception on the second floor, very small elevator, toilet separate from the sink/shower).

but the nice thing was there was a lift, so after a day of walking and climbing you don’t have to climb stairs on your way back to your room which can sometimes be rare in France.

I suspect we are not the first to somehow have missed the neon sign pointing to the elevator,

Due to space limitations, the  elevator is typically very cramped, sufficient for two people and their suitcases.

The elevator is very small and with the railing on the bottom floor, hard to manage to get luggage in.

Our room was compact like the lift, not a lot of space

Despite what others have said, the elevator is not that small.

The only negative was access to the reception area and all rooms is via a small lobby and very small lift so large luggage items (like my bike bag) took a bit of wrangling,

I paid for the two nights in advance and settled into our small room right on the street two floors up.

The room was so small, more like a cupboard, the outside view was just a blank wall.

My friends who were in the really tiny rooms faced an alleyway.

You need to be a gymnast to access the room with luggage (the premises of the hotel start only on the 1st floor) and our room was so tiny that it remained only 1 foot between the 2 sides of the bed and the walls.

Attentive staff, delicious breakfast - can even have eggs made to order and the hours breakfast available was very generous 6:30-11.

but the buffer is good and eggs made to order is on point.

The breakfast was great and the location in Place Bellecour was perfect for sightseeing in any direction.

The breakfast buffet had everything one could ask for – made-to-order eggs, cheeses, cold cuts, pastries, fruits, etc.

The breakfast was to die for, so much choice and the eggs we had every morning where the best I’ve ever had.

When you stayed often in 5-star hotels in Asia, having breakfast in hotel Le Royal was like having breakfast in a guest house.

The breakfast buffet is excellent with a wide range of high quality options.

Opt to include breakfast as it is lovely and the breakfast room is really nice.

Breakfast is among the best hotel breakfasts as well and again, very attentive staff.

It is a hospitality teaching hotel, so the staff is young, plentiful, and attentive.

Great reception, beautiful rooms, wonderful decor throughout the hotel and absolutely outstanding breakfast team!

ok, my room had no view, as in had two windows in front of a wall which.

The rooms, like the reception and other areas of the hotel, are decorated with fabric-lined walls printed with different scenes in either blue or red on creamy-white Toile de Jouy.

they failed to state which exit .. there are many which resulted in an overly long walk round Place Bellecour on a very hot day

When I got to check in, a number of staff appeared to be just leaning against the back wall.

but needed maintenance / upgrading - scuff marks on doors and walls, a hole in the bathroom door, peeling paper and a draft from the balcony doors.

Again, you’re surprised when you get to your floor because the walls are decorated by photographs of Lyon’s elegant buildings.

However, this is the only luxury hotel I’ve stayed in where the soaps are in pump dispensers fastened to the bathroom wall in true Premier Inn fashion.

but Mgallery are most of the time better looking that this one, more comfortable or of a better finishing.this one needs to be attend (some painting cracking on the wall, a shower curtain rod falling apart, bathroom toilet seat not well fixed).

but short cuts had been made - two marks on a wall had been painted over with just on brush stroke in a slightly different colour whereas it would only have taken 20 minutes to repaint the whole wall.

As someone said previously the bathroom products are fixed to the wall; at breakfast dirty dishes are not taken away from your table and you are left with no room; the hotel lacks a bit of atmosphere and we felt when we entered the hotel the staff just looked at us

The hotel itself had a  modern design and feel with opulent touches of days gone by - such as the use of fabric on the walls, not only in the rooms

however, the first evening we were there, there was a couple arguing very loudly in a room near us - so loudly that we could hear every word they were saying through the walls.

Had asked for a room with shower over 4 weeks in advance; got into room and the 'shower' hung down from ceiling  with no walls around it.

There was so much damage done to the walls and door mouldings by the cleaning trolley.

My knees almost touched the wall in front of me when I sat on the toilet.

I would say the only negative comment would be that there was no wall shower.

The walls of the tub are very high and there are no bars to hold when getting in or out.

); very slow and spotty internet; there is 1 elevator for five floors (slow and in, seemingly, constant use); the hallway carpets and wall coverings are dated and show many signs of wear; the majority of the rooms are quite small; and the bathrooms are not up to even three star standards.

Floors were covered with an odd, dormitory-like plastic, the wall covering was peeling in tons of places, and to say the bathroom was tiny was a serious understatement, even for Europe.

Worst 4* hotel we have stayed in, room smelled awful (like someone had slept in it for a week and had not been cleaned) so we were moved to a different room, both rooms had yellow stained duvets and brown marks on the walls, second room had mould in bathroom and a red stain on the chair (I really hope it was not blood) bathrooms are awkward, beds are very uncomfortable.

Bathroom was small, door was awkward and difficult to open.

Some areas of improvement we feel could be addressed are: one or two  extra towel hooks in the rather compact bathroom, a mini bar in the rooms even if you get refreshments at the club and finally it would be nice and expected to have the first glass offered with the evening aperitif while all alcoholics are extra.

My main complaint would be the oddity of having to walk through the shower to get to the vanity & toilet.

I didn’t like the air and the smell in the club and in the hallways, because of that the whole hotel seemed rusty.

No toiletries except soap was a bit annoying.

the bathroom had no functional ventilation, it smelled like drainage and mold.

The rooms are pretty small and the bathroom is a glass cube in the room which doesn't make for a whole lot of privacy.

They avoid providing excessive plastic bottle toiletries (which is great)

Although the bathroom has a frosted glass wall and has no lock.

however it was extremely awkward drying my hair as I had to sit on a chair in front of the long mirror.

I find the bathroom with a curtain around it and frosted glass a little strange

The breakfast offers a good selection of hot and cold items.

Best value especially with the club lounge with breakfast.

The breakfast at the club area was better than the usual breakfast buffets you have at hotels so it is very much a viable option if you don't want to walk to town to find breakfast.

Breakfast was excellent, it’s in a terrific location and all staff are very friendly and helpful.

I took breakfast on one day anf the selection was excellent.

but we were welcomed to eat in the lounge (no room service unfortunately) - but they gave us the menu, which was short but very comprehensive for all tastes and we had a really delicious meal, excellently prepared with quality ingredients, plus an excellent bourgogne red.

The breakfast in the morning was also very tasty and there was a good selection.

What let the experience  down: 
The room was pretty basic with no wardrobe and just an open rack and shelves for clothes.

but lacked storage having only a couple of shelves and some clothes hangers.

but oddly no wardrobe or drawer storage space whatsoever!

Instead  of  a closet, there are open shelves and hangers in the room.

The surface of the rooms are less than 15 square meters
There is no wardrobe in the room just a wardrobe in the open air.

The cheap looking "wardrobe" area which is basically a tiny rail with four hangers gives a particular horrible visual appeal and something one would more expect to find in a hostel or college dorm.

although it did seem a little odd at first having no wardrobe.

A cupboard on the wall contains water and there is a coffee maker.

We were there for 7 nights and it was a struggle to fit all of our clothes on a small hanging rail and three small shelves.

There was no closet, and the bathroom was super tiny.

Very functional room, slightly small, no wardrobe or drawers, just a short hanging rail and shelves.

Don't expect a wardrobe either, as there is only a tiny wall mounted 20cm hanging rail and a small open shelf unit.

Storage space - zero
No drawers - no cupboards - just a couple of hangers on an upright stand.

The only thing I do not understand is the wardrobe situation - this was not a problem for a few days

although storage is restricted to a small open hanging rail and two open shelves.

but there was a hook device for hanging clothes.

No closet doors or dresser, just small rod and shelves in corner.

Nevertheless, the room we had was very far from that terminology…

Small, not very cozy, with no heating (the room was in the last floor and the heating was broken), spider nets in the windows…

I do want to say that the actual rooms are small

Room are very small, especially for 2 persons and there is no larger room above the "premium" for upgrade.

However, the room was very small, with a bathroom built into the room with no fan.

The rooms are too small you can not open two suitcases and walk easily in the room.

I had prepaid for breakfast and was able to eat it in the room each morning (for no extra charge).

From the moment we were dropped off till the moment we ubered away it was by far one of the most satisfying of stays…the front desk starting with Sandi and another great young man who helped with reservations were just awesome… welcoming professional and always smiling… the others we came across there were equally kind and always helpful…we had a suite which was spectacular with a large balcony overlooking the square, highly recommend, and extremely accessible to the morning breakfast room which is another +++….

The hotel itself is very clean, great breakfast, very luxurious.

So busy and such a tiny room that they put you in another meeting room, not very nice or romantic.

Terrific breakfast atop the hotel with amazing views .

The only positive note is the breakfast at the 8th floor where you can perceive the Sofitel spirit.

The breakfast buffet was delicious with an extraordinary array of dishes to choose from.

The service was exceptional from all employees at the front desk, the concierge and the staff at the breakfast room.

Breakfast in the restaurant is not be missed and the cocktail bar is great.

Luckily, they did not enforce this regulation. At the breakfast buffet (no check of pass sanitaire!)

Everything was clean and the top floor restaurant has a great view for breakfast.
