but when attempting to check in was refused because it was my husband's card and not mine but it was fine to use the card to use it for an imaginary card by all means stay at this hotel of you want your holiday ruined also if you get assaulted by gypsys right outside this hotel expect to be asked to leave the next day because being traumatised is very rude and disruptive to other guests

After reading previous reviews had to double check was same hotel.

When we came down to check out at 6am after the second night, the bill was now less than $90 for the first night, as quoted,

Upon check-in by a clerk who didn´t speak English, I was given a room on the 5th floor, underneath the hotel´s snack bar/breakfast room.

The halls and the elevator areas are very dark, and we noticed an almost total absence of decorations.

We had asked for a quiet room as we are light sleepers ,BUT,because  reception spoke no english.were given a room which allowed us to hear,tv next door,alarm clock at 6am next door,building site nearby,and cathedral clock chimeing every hour.Light sin the corridor ( as another review said ) seem to go on and off at inappropriate times as you are accessing the room.

As I was give a room at the end of the corridor, the wi-fi didn't work well (although the receptionist assured that it would work perfectly).

The hallways were on motion sensor lights, so you exited the elevator into pitch darkness until you walk several steps out of the elevator.

though ours was a bit weak(our room was at the end of the hall #421).

Only nagging feature was the noise from the corridor, as in the walls may be too thin,

But the delay was very long so that when you step off the elevator into the hall.

The dark halls, paper-thin walls, antiquated shaggy carpet, squeaky doors, hot rooms left a lot to be desired.

Our Sat nav took us to the end of the street, where a helpful local assisted us.

Our sweet tour guide traded with me after indifference from the gentleman at reception who said they were fully booked.

The staff was helpful to a person, the location cannot be bettered, and the breakfast sent me off from Lugo wanting to return to this treasure of a hotel. !

As we struggled to carry our luggage through the stairs (about 6 steps), someone from the personnel came out to help.

This was another great hotel and the woman on  reception was lovely, friendly and helpful.

The whole place is full of history - very comfortable, creaky wooden floors, a very friendly welcome - we could not ask for more.

This is a very good friendly well located 4 star hotel in an ex small 1750 imposing palace.

Breakfasts were generous with lots of local cakes etc & reception staff were really friendly & helpful.

Staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient.

I cannot speak more highly of the friendly and helpful staff, the comfort of the beds, the ambience and the decoration of the hotel and rooms and the superb breakfast.

The staff was very friendly and helpful, detailing the the historical sites to see, their locations within the city, and everything the city and region had to offer including places to dine as well as a sampling of the local wines !

We have stayed at Pazo de Orban several times and have always found the staff friendly and helpful, they are proud of their hotel and delighted to welcome guests to Lugo.

Once we were in the hotel’s own car-park, though, everything was fine – from the friendly welcome and the secure private car-park to the rooms in the hotel itself.

From the friendly welcome by the owner and his young son (great English by the way..), to the clever and tasteful blend of varied interior designs- antique, art deco, modern, rustic, eccentric; to the position, .

We found reception to be warm and friendly and very attentive to our needs.

Tucked just inside the Roman walls, this unpretentious small hotel is friendly, with very well-designed and comfortable rooms.

It’s also near a night club and after midnight it gets so noises that sleep isn’t possible.

Our room was over the main walkway in front of the building and as it was Saturday night there were one or two noisy revellers,

A refurbished old palace (Pazo), it has continued its refurbishing and it is practically done, so we experienced NONE of the noise or construction sights mentioned by previous reports.

But, the noise level was just unacceptable as it was at the juncture of walk ways out of the old town and we had a corner room.

but I think panicked with all the traffic behind.

but the keys are huge and heavy so you'll need a rucksack just to carry them.

It is a family run hotel, so they ask that you let them know if you will be late in or early leaving as the front doors are locked overnight-so maybe not ideal if you are party animals- which we were not!

The hotel is locked from midnight to 8am and you will get a key to open the main doors when you arrive back late from the many fabulous tapas bars that are seconds from the hotel.

Best of all Maria at reception was the friendliest host of all our hotels and the gardener showed how much he loves plants with his tender care of the many trees and plants decorating the entrants and ally.The owners are very lucky to have these two people on staff.

Although the breakfast was good, we felt the guidance by the hotel owner was extremely poorly handled.

Our room was very comfortable.The service is good and the staff very pleasant and obliging.It is within the walls of the town which are themselves a charming feature in that they entirely enclose it and provide a fascinating walk.

Patricia was First Class and spoke excellent English as did the other staff we met.

when we arrived the receptionist suggested that we dine in the best restaurant in town  (CARLOS) and provided us with a visit card to be stamped by the said restaurant.

The breakfast offers many types of cheeses of Galicia and the personnel is very nice and proffesional.

Be aware, because of the way sound travels through the streets, you’ll hear the music and noise from the bars and clubs a few blocks away if you have your windows open.

Lovely hotel down a narrow street inside the city walls.

However the location of the hotel leaves much to be desired as it’s in the “Red Light” area with lots of prostitutes and customers hanging around in the nearby streets.

The receptionist told us about the tapas street near by (Rua Nova) and that it was a special fortnight in the city were by we  paid for the wine and we received samples of both hot and cold tapas at very little cost.

On Saturday morning between 7 and 8 am we were woken up by a workman strimming just outside our room, it really was noisy, and this was followed by a machine cleaning the street.

The drive through the pedestrian archway in the wall is a bit daunting, and the streets are narrow,

There were 'ladies of the night' strutting their stuff up and down one of the small streets right next to the hotel and the other small streets showed some evidence of hard drinking and drug taking the next morning when we went to walk on the wall.

The first approach to the Pazo de Orban can be a little unnerving as it is necessary to drive through the city gates against a  "Do Not Enter" sign and negotiate narrow pedestrianized streets.

Pazo de Orban is down a quite side street with a private car park which is important inside Lugo.

Getting to hotel by car is "exciting" as you actually drive through a pedestrian arch and around a couple of narrow streets which is a little disconcerting when you haven't been there before.

When tire I got to the hotel :The welcome was friendly, the room very adequate and nicely decorated.

The owners are really friendly and the hostal includes a cafetería for drinks, breakfast, lunch or dinner.

We enjoyed our stay at the Brios , all the staff were friendly , helpful & attentive.

It is closely located to both, city center and campus, extremely nicely equipped, with even an elevator, hand painted rooms and the most friendly service I have met since long time.

It's staff is very friendly  and helpful, my room had a good size and was perfectly clean and the location is good as there is an easy 10 minutes walk to reach the city walls.

This "hostal" is extra clean, rooms are serviced daily and impeccably, the reception is so so friendly and breakfast at the café downstairs is great value for price.

The owners and employees were very friendly, patient, and even bought my mum and me some gluten free snacks when they found out we couldn't eat bread etc - very thoughtful.

however you can hear people in the rooms and hallway, so bring earplugs and enjoy your stay.

I stayed here for 3 nights and paid 33 euros per night for a single room.

The location has a underground car park at a small fee.

They also have a parking, with limited places so if you chose to bring your car it would be wise to book in advance (although you won't have much trouble finding a parking spot in the street).

Ideally located, outside the city walls so we could park in the underground car park, and only a block from one of the gates into the old town.

I, being slightly claustrophobic, took the internal lift and met him either in the car park or on the road.

To be honest, we found that many of the underground parking garages in Spain were quite small and this wasn't the first hotel that I had booked specifically for the car park

There was cars of all sizes parked down there and no one else seemed to have any problems using the lift or parking there.

We had a reasonably small car and it was tight!

This was not so easy to locate by car at once because of the one way passage.

Our choice was reasonable as we got everything we expected and needed - spacious and clean rooms, breakfast filling, and friendly and helpful staff.

We have just returned from  7 days at this excellent hotel.The staff were friendly and very helpful with one of our party who needed gluten free food.They even phoned for a late evening delivery of gluten free pizza!Very clean accommodation too ,with frequent fresh linen!A return visit is on our future agenda.Well done to all! !

Parking around the hotel streets in my opinion is non-existent unless you are extremely lucky and are in the right place at the right time so we opted to use the underground hotel parking accessed via a car lift (this costs an extra 10 euros).

For a supposedly 4-star hotel, we would have expected rather more toiletries than the minimal shampoo and bath gel sachets provided.

The bath/shower is somewhat dated and if you are short, or are recuperating from a knee operation you may find access is a not so easy.

The employee who worked at the reception during the night was very friendly, trying to speak Portuguese to better communicate with us.

We both love this hotel as it is always good value, the staff very friendly and the location is ideal for us.

The staff were friendly and the room was clean and pleasant, with good air conditioning.

We found the staff to be exceedingly courteous and friendly.

However, there was not much noise in the room.

I Had continual issues with the door key reader, and was woken by a tour group slamming doors and vacating my level

but I dreamt I dwelt in marble halls and woke to find the walls so thin that I was kept awake by the man snoring next door and by their conversation and intimate activities before that.

but covered with transparent tarpaulins which threatened to blow away in the gale and made an incredible noise.

but the lovely staff  and wonderful pool here tipped the scale in the rating.

The receptionist was pleasant and helpful.

I can find nothing to recommend the hotel except the very helpful young man with excellent English on reception.

Because we have a good sense of humour we were able to laugh at the experience

Lucky for us the wonderful barman, Moses, looked at us and said you are tired and hungry let me see what I can do and he found us some vegetarian and seafood tapas from the kitchen to have with our drinks and then went to persuade the chef to cook us some fish early to eat in the cafeteria.

We had a few drinks in the bar late one night and it was very busy.

but more atmosphere in the large & busy cafeteria part where locals come for a drink and a meal so you may want to have your meal here. Recommended!

Taking the least expensive 2 rooms over 7 days is a real test.

Again, like others, we thought the room rate was very cheap, and wondered what the rooms would be like.

However, we were a little concerned as the room charge was so reasonable that we thought perhaps it would not be up to the standard we enjoy.

Before leaving to dinner we asked to turn on the air and the front desk agent did and we were happy, it was in the 50's F

We had our wedding reception at Torre De Núñez and it was perfect.
