Unfortunately, Hotel Erwin put us in rooms adjacent to the 6th floor elevator.

The issue with this is they use one of the two elevators.

From the moment I stepped into the “lobby”, it was inundated with drunk loud people squeezing into a tiny elevator to get to the rooftop bar.

There’s only one elevator which causes a backup in the lobby, I ended up using the stairs.

The door for the bathroom could do with being fixed in properly and having only one lift and with the roof terrace being very popular does make it sometimes a wait!

but the same guy who won't let you in the door without a mask will gladly put you at the end of a line of 20 hipsters to squeeze into a 6 person elevator with no concern for social distancing.

They aren't the ones who have to share the *single* small elevator with unmasked people.

The only negatives I can say would be the water pressure in the shower was terrible.Also in the evenings the elevator is backed up when the rooftop bar is open.

Took almost 10 min to get my elevator, that sort of thing.

The one elevator gets jammed with people trying to access their rooms.

Also, there is only one elevator - which takes everyone up to the bar.

It is THE slowest elevator I've ever been in.

Only other thing and especially on the weekend, the elevator situation is a bit of a disaster.

The hotel delivers on all fronts - great rooftop bar, big rooms (go for the Epic Sea View room on L6), perfect location and very friendly service.

Every time we walked in we were so welcomed, and the entire staff was so friendly.

The hotel is instantly inviting with friendly doorman welcoming you in to the helpful receptionists who make checking in so hassle free.

I was greeted and checked in by Yoshwa ( I’m sorry if I spelled this wrong) He was so friendly, welcoming, and upgraded my room.

Staff are super friendly, the cleaning, reception, security staff.

The front desk attendant, Shane Paisson, remained professional and friendly, while handling the multitude of problems that presented themselves with us and other hotel guests.

My six year old daughter and I also enjoyed dinner on the roof top - I found the entire hotel and staff to be very friendly and accommodating with my daughter - everyone was always smiling and talking to her and one lovely team member even game her some candy as we were leaving.

He was so helpful, gave us great recommendations and just a down-to-earth friendly guy.

The hotel was really noisy in the evening, whether it was the rooftop bar or the speakeasy across the street, the place just wore me down.

But these rooms were awful due to the noise pollution.

We only had one night in LA before leaving on an international trip and were determined not to spend it in traffic.

I mean, I could hear every sound from the couple next door.

At the rooftop, the DJ was so loud the hostess couldn't hear us.

We were worried at first, being able to hear people in the hallway while in our room,

Every night I was woken up by drunk people shouting down the corridor on my floor.

During the week, we had the "joy" of waking up every morning to excessive noise at 7am due to the garbage pick ups in the alley.

We didn't have any complimentary water in our room, the carpet felt yucky, like a college doorm room after a party and the noise outside from the vendors was pretty loud.

All the hallways smelled like smoke, the room was on par with an inexpensive motel room, and very noisy due to the rooftop bar and late night music outside.

Besides that, I had constant trouble getting the fan in my room to work because it wrongly thought that my balcony door was opened.

There is a constant line at the lobby to get to the bar on the rooftop and it's a hassle to get into the hotel.

I don't recommend the hotel for young families unless you just care about walking to beach and don't mind some noise if staying on the weekend.

I just have a few picky complaints that apparently they hear quite a lot.

We were then woken by a piercing fire alarm at 2am - someone had set it off somehow and luckily no fire or evacuation

The location is great for the night life too bad my husband and I are a little old for shaking our tail feathers.

I was initially skeptical about staying in a beachfront property due to noise usually encountered,

The rooms are very spacious, and the hotel staff was very kind and helpful.

The front desk folks were very kind and attentive.

Straight up, Yoshua might be the best concierge I’ve ever seen.

Every single person we encountered seemed truly glad we were there and went above and beyond to ensure we felt welcomed and had everything we needed.

Overall - great stay, great staff, nice enough rooms and an eclectic collection of guests.

The rooms are so spacious and clean, you're two minutes walking to the beach (and 30 seconds walking from a dozen different fantastic food spots), and the staff were so accommodating and helpful.

Staff were very accommodating, location is just steps to the beach, amazing views, 5 minute walk to Abbot Kinney.

The hotel staff knew nothing about that and didn’t even let us go up on the rooftop without paying.

Great staff, towels and toys for the beach, and the location can't be beat.

To his credit, he was back in touch with me within a couple of hours with a number of offerings to sooth the disappointment we'd expressed.

When we made our way back to the lobby, this man gave me his card and said the next time I visit to stop by and find him and he will tell me some more history I don't know.

but it’s not ideal when you’re working with a pre-paid debit card for your holiday. 5.

Last night, they charged me $60 because “I was there more than 5 hours.” 

I pointed out the mistake, and the valet workers said there was nothing they could do and “it’s a computer issue.” All the time, they were looking at each other and laughing, obviously ripping me off.

they added $13.50 service charge for tapping 5 draught beers.

We had to show our card initially to come in from both entrances,

I had a little trouble getting things to charge in the room and it would have been nice to have a hair dryer in the room as well.

The actual items we were charged for were not identified and there's no clarity as to when the mystery items allegedly went missing - only when they were charged.

They said that for international cards, the period is between 28 and 30 days.

So you can imagine my surprise and disgust at being charged $40  Amenities Charge on checking out!!!

The room was nice, a bit dirty I found an old uno card under the rug.

The man in charge of valet (didn’t get his name I would like to thank him)saw we were distressed and got one of his guys to go out onto the street and try get us a taxi and spoke to reception about it.

During my stay which was only 3 nights around $1500 total was taken from my card over 2 nights in 3 different transactions.

* After I checked out they've made a series of deductions from my visa which are hundreds of dollars over the bill I signed on check out - these are in dispute

Room card was handed out, and I was off to my cabana.

On the day of arrival, after complaining to the duty manager, we were given a $140 credit for dinner.

The staff was friendly, the hotel was clean, and the feel of classic Hollwood was great.

He is always welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable about the hotel and its history.

The location is very central, the staff extremely friendly and the  beds and pillows are so comfy!

but they didn't open until 5:30 A.M. Coffee is the one amenity every hotel should have even if we have to pay for it.

When we entered the room there is a smaller vestibule that has the cabinet holding the mini-fridge and several bottles of alcohol, wine, and snacks to choose from (for a hefty fee).

but had a limited selection and it was a bit of a production (and cost $7 for one chamomile teabag).

but as others have said for the price point it's not as nice as the BH Hilton and others fully renovated.

but we had to pay a big difference so we declined.

I didn't notice that their default price is for a non refundable room.

I paid the $60 because I wanted to get home,

It belongs to the luxury class and is therefore not cheap.

She never returned so we paid the bill at the bar and went elsewhere to eat.

but it was absolutely not worth the cost of the stay.

but I would say the breakfast offering and pool bar offerings are overpriced but tasty none the less.

The price point is a bit on the high side for a solo traveler, and you are looking for a cheaper place to park your car, there is a public garage across the street that will save you $20 dollars a day.

For example, if you go to the front desk and ask for a room rate - they will ask you to just check on your phone - instead of checking their system.

Some of the drink prices can be a little on the high end

That said, what you find in the rooms isn't all free, so take care to check the price list (in your room) before enjoying anything; some items come at a cost that you might not realize - this caught us out.

We had a King room and it was very small.

We had a very small room (no room for 2 big suitcases)

but unfortunately it is high season and there were no other rooms available so we had to make do for 5 nights in this tiny room.

My first time was in a very small room in the tower.

WHAT A JOKE… the room we were given was a tiny double bed in a tiny, smelly room over looking a dodgy car park!

The room has a small table with two fixed chairs facing each other, which seemed like it would have been a workable area,

but keep in mind that it's a historic property and the rooms are tiny.

Service is impeccable from front desk to valet.

The room was spacious & very clean, the staff were great & it has an amazing location on Hollywood Boulevard.

I have stayed here twice now and the staff are just amazing.

We asked if a tour of the rooftop was available and they arranged for Bellhop Timothy to take us up.

All the staff are very helpful and delightful to deal with.

Everyone always had a smile on their face and was always asking if they could do anything for us.

All the staff we encountered offered amazing service.

Even the concierge NICOLAS always chats a few words in German with me.

The staff were incredible and so welcoming!

We have stayed at the Sunset Tower many times and have always enjoyed the friendly staff and service from the friendly valet to the front desk to the dining staff to the bartenders.

but the atmosphere is cool, trendy Old Hollywood and the service friendly and generally efficient.

It’s warm and friendly, yet still somehow manages to feel sophisticated and elegant.

This is a grand old property with a friendly, attentive and skillful front of house team.

From check-in to check-out, every person I interacted with was helpful, friendly and eager to accommodate any request.

The rooms are immaculate, the staff is exceptional and friendly, the food is excellent, and the gym is amazing.

Downgraded room for one of us
One of our room was very tiny and clearly not the superior room we had booked and paid for.

My room was so small there was no room for storage, the central air  conditioning  wasn’t working, the menu is limited, overall disappointment

The only drawback is that the rooms are quite small and the walls are paper thin.

The room was small and noisy, I could hear the elevator rambling up-and-down through-out the night; there seemed to be a function on every day which prevented us from using the facilities of the hotel, which is why we came in first place; there always seemed to be a lot of confusion in the lobby with a lot of staff

From the moment you enter the building the staff are very welcoming and our server was really nice had a lovely chat our breakfast was amazing really really good food overlooking the pool area would definitely recommend loved it.would like to go at night maybe next time iam in LA.

They need to speed up issue resolutions as I found extra charges in my room bill which delay the check-out process.

We also had an electric car in valet that was always charged.

Booked with Amex FHR and did NOT receive a room upgrade.

It's disappointing the hotel did not honor their partnership with Amex.

but is a credit of $30 in reality, which is impossible to match (the whole menu is hight than that after taxes and tips).

but charging $750 for two massages are insane.

No charge late check out when they can do it.

(Gregory saved my credit card from being lost forever when it fell by the pool!)

but since this was last minute, we chose to burn some AMEX points and splurge a little.

I booked the hotel through the American Express Platinum card, meaning that we were entitled to a few perks.

My girlfriend was traveling alone and needed to use my credit card.

but the Viceroy L’Ermitage was offering a discounted room through Amex so I decided to try it out.

The hotel could also do with a coin laundry as not everyone thinks a 12 USD laundry  charge for a shirt makes sense . .

I just don't like it when you get a call from the front desk at 12:25PM asking "if I need assistance with checkout" when I had already told the front desk upon check in that I would be utilizing the 4PM late check out that goes along with the AMEX fine hotels program.

The folio charged OJ twice and also did not deduct 100 dollar promised for some sort of engineering problem they had in our room.

I booked through Luxury Hotel and Resort Collection which is a benefit of the Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card.

One criticism I have is the ridiculous charge of $50 a night for parking- crazy!

after calling to confirm of my accomodations with the hotel, they tried switching it last minute and forcing me to buy another room. And one of the concierge women Ashley tried to charge me for valet service every day (regardless of the fact that i didn't bring a car)

I then discovered a charge on my credit card which I was not expecting.

Incredible hotel only downside is still awaiting a credit back to my account for an overcharge the front desk messed up on.

It has excellent location and staff were friendly with good services.

Everyone on staff was extremely friendly, personable and so willing to help. Genuinely.
