We were there on Labor Day weekend, and the air conditioning wasn't working well, so I sweated through the nights.

but I was shocked to see a wall unit AC which rattled all night.

The room ac didn’t work and the toilet kept running.

And with the AC blower on, the noise was pretty limited.

The bathroom did not have any AC or vents, there was a window that opened to the outside

but still rough around the edges (windows from the 1960s, AC turns off while you sleep, light from walkway illuminates room at night) but now 3X the pre-pandemic pricing.

but there is something wrong there, not sure if it's the AC or how old the rooms are but there is some strange smell when you enter the room.

No elevator, room covered with rug, ultra noisy and vibrating AC, bathroom with a mal functioning door, and last

It took us a while to get the AC working properly,

AC units (not central air) that need to be turned on several times during the night.

There was a constant rumbling from what I can only think was HVAC plant on the roof.

but a mini split over the door that does an ok job of cooling the room, I assume mine might have worked better if the door sealed tighter, luckily it wasn't too hot during the day and the nights were cool so I could open the windows to get more ventilation.

The hotel's chic mid-century design is unusually conducive to COVID safety: its corridors are outdoors and individual air conditioning units limit the risk of transmission between guestrooms.

All the old "traits" are still there - the thin-walled rooms, non-double ply windows (despite what the hotel says about them installing double-ply windows recently), I hear just about everything the guest next door is saying on the phone (from 7-9am, no less) and what's on the tv next door (past midnight).

We had no chair, no desk, and the ventilation left much to be desired.

I had a few small issue which they fixed as soon as I reported them (missing TV remote and air con control not working).

The air conditioning was hard to operate with no instructions at check-in.

A/C struggled to keep up because there was at least a one inch opening above the door.

AC was struggling and barely kept the room cool enough to sleep.

The furniture was a worn out, closet doors barely functioning and .

The rooms are motel style so be aware that your hotel door is on an exterior corridor.

The carpet was musky and stained, the curtain was hanging from the rods, the sink fixtures in the bathroom were loose and leaky and the cabinet doors were broken.

It’s a money hungry organization and you can feel it as soon as you step in the door.

Unfortunately at noon housekeeping started banging on the door and calling.

Our room was in a nondescript building that was separated from the pool building by an active alleyway, and was entered through the back exit door of the building next to the stairwell.

This door was slammed 4 times between 11pm and 5am waking me up each time EVEN with ear plugs in.

the valets jump at the chance to open the door for you.

I didn't know that all of the doors to the rooms were outside or that the rooms would be as small as they were.

My door unfortunately did not close and seal properly so a lot of light and noise came in.

i needed a place to stay and work for a few days while there was construction next door to my home.

Greeted by dingy electrical box just inside door.

I had to block of the  gaps in the divider because when we first arrived, our dog ran through and into the open door of the room next door.

As for our room I’m pretty sure we got the smallest one (309) based on the floor plan on the back of the door.

If you use your door sign the maids leave you in peace to sleep in the morning.

Also when arrives, there is water at the door, make the floor slippy.

Second, our hotel room door was opened and left wide open while we were away.

The location was perfect for us - close to Beverly Hills, with easy access to the entire westside and Hollywood.

This is a very Hip & Trendy Mid Century Hotel with a perfect location for everthing in Beverly Hills and Hollywood.

Super central location -- less than 15min to Rodeo Drive, West Hollywood, Koreatown, and more.

The Avalon exudes a feeling as if you were taken back into Old Hollywood.

Felt like it kept the old bev hills/Hollywood vibe

We Ubered all over LA--Venice, Culver City, Silver Lake, Larchmont and Hollywood!

Everything that ought to be updated has been without sacrificing its mid-century Hollywood bona fides.

Great location to go to Santa Monica, Venice Beach, Hollywood attractions/shows/premiers, Huntington Botanical Gardens, and all places nearby.

It also is near to Hollywood about 15 minutes by car.

A nice retreat from the business and loud environment of downtown LA and Hollywood.

I felt like I was able to enjoy an old Hollywood experience in the heart of Beverly Hills - the location can’t be beat.

Close to Hollywood's Walk of Fame, Sunset and Rodeo Drive.

It’s easy to get to Hollywood, Beverly Hills or even the beach.

The decor is very cool and if you love old school Hollywood you will be excited about its history.

The design and the materials/ furniture pieces in the room as well as the whole hotel have put us on a time travel to classic Hollywood, wonderful atmosphere, great staff.

Walking distance (or a short Uber ride if you prefer) to everywhere in Beverly Hills and great local restaurants (the hotel restaurant was temporarily closed due to COVID).

The front desk staff was so friendly and offered to help make reservations at local restaurants etc.

Location is perfect and the food at the restaurant is top notch, better than a lot of the local restaurants even!

If you're uninterested, the hotel is only a 20 minute walk to Rodeo Drive or a 10 minute walk to other local cafes and franchises like Urth Caffe, Starbucks, Coffee Bean.

but my first experience at the Avalon was so tasteless that I retired to the local café on subsequent days.

The residential location of the hotel is actually quite pleasant and contrary to what some reviewers said, there are local restaurants and businesses within walking distance.

We asked the front desk manager about local restaurants: not a chain, close by, good for families.

The outdoor area around the pool is great to hang out, eat, and host meetings.

All of the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, the room was spotless, the pool area is lovely.

We chose this hotel because of it's great location, (walking distance to Rodeo Drive and hot spots), and also interesting fun retro Beverly Hills decor and it's a level 5 Marriott hotel and I was using points (I'm a Gold Member).

Our bathroom had clearly suffered a leak resulting in damaged ceiling & woodwork which sadly included  in some clearly visible fungal growth.

but no private area apart from so called living room 
Fridge made noise n bedroom 
a/c didn’t work staff didn’t really care.

When I asked about the cost of the room they blew me off like they could care less!

but even after turning off our A/C the sound persisted.

Second That damn fan or water pipe noise was in 24/7.

The central heat fan was on the noisy side even when set on the low speed at night time.

The air vent in our room was very loud, we shut the fan down hoping it would lessen the noise level

Somewhere in the middle of the night, the unit would stop running/cooling, despite the temp setting is set to 68.

Only thing is the fan/ AC system in the room is too loud that have a hard time to fall asleep.

Got out of the elevator on the 3rd floor and the carpet was held together wall to wall with duct tape.

Had a problem with the air conditioner what should I eat continue to work on until they have it to our satisfaction.

The only thing I could complain about was the A/C not being cold enough-

However the central air conditioning system seemed went down the hill and is lack of maintenance.

I'm not sure if this was from the HVAC system or my neighbors above on the 6th floor.

Horrible-discourteous service from front desk staff at check-in and throughout stay, horrible room with light bulbs out in the room, horrible bed that felt like a rock in room 617, horrible air vent that blows dusty dry air into the room, horrible room and horrible service, horrible.

The room was too dark as some of the lighting was out of order, many dust was found on the ceiling (not Halloween decorations), the mattress was too soft as usual and the air con outlet was blowing directly to my head when I was sleeping which gave me a serious headache!

A/C was a bit noisy, had to turn off while sleeping.

It seems that the smell is coming from the ventilation system and/or A/C.

Walk out of hotel and turn right, you will find nice Chinese restaurants with outdoor dining during this pandemic; and across the street you will find even more.

It probably helps that this hotel has a strong ethnic Chinese focus among both the guests (Chinese tour groups, local family visits, etc) and the staff too (many are bi/trilingual with Mandarin and Cantonese).

Plenty of chinese eatery and dessert shops in walking distance.

It is in the middle of Chinese Community, so if you love Chinese food, this will suit you well.

A relatively new hotel surrounded by new developments and dozens of Chinese restaurants all within easy walking distance.

Only walking distance to the San Gabriel 全统广场 where a lot of good Chinese food locates.

The location is pretty interesting - part of a shopping center with many Chinese restaurants.

It is literally surrounded by malls of Chinese restaurants serving food as authentic as any you will find in the United States.

The hotel breakfast buffet was a huge hit with the kids - they had american food and chinese food (dumplings, noodles, stirfry vegetables, congee).

Felt really comfortable walking around and had plenty of chinese restaurants to pick and choose from

Breakfast was a treat every day with so many choices and such fun to be able to try Chinese cuisine that I am told was truly authentic.

but at a good location, close to a lot of Chinese restaurants and shops.

The lounge was a great place to have a beverage before dinner and there were lots of Chinese restaurants within walking distance of the hotel.

It is close to many excellent Chinese restaurants as well as Asian supermarkets.

but I am unsure of the charges for this service as I did not need to use them.

Breakfast options that you could get under the F&B credit were terrible.

They are charging 18 USD for two cold slices of toast, a juice an a yoghurt (or a small cup of cereals) As I said we‘ve been in several 3-star Hampton Hotels which have done much better on this.

Daily $36 F&B credit was offered and we used it.

Diamond status came with $18/person food/beverage credit, which we used at the hotel's restaurant for breakfast.

Also was never told about food credit for being a diamond member.Not too impressed

His tone suggested that the water was given to me as a courtesy, as if my stay of 4 nights were nothing to him as I'm not gold/diamond, and he is communicating rules better than his other colleges without thinking the balance of courtesy.

Service charge automatically added for breakfast.

The only issue I have is the Diamond parking area which I've noticed that people don't have the Diamond member card and they were allowed to park there.

They charge full price and NOTHING is open!

If there is no management and no security, it is share the parking, why charge Meng parking fee.

It charged me $ 5.00 for the parking over night

I immediately returned to Clemen(t/s) to retrieve it and he told me off saying he was not done with us and "logically", a key card is needed to open the room.

There are a few Diamond parking spots near the entrance and they give you a card to put in the windshield.

The problem was the front desk and reservation people messed up our billing and reservations - and then insisted it couldn't be fixed.

I booked through a third party so there was a surcharge for Internet and 5$ overnight parking.

She did also charged me (a Duamind member) a two days Internet whether on purposely or trying to hide it ???

It was also nice to have the dedicated Hilton Diamond parking places provided close the hotel entrance.

but we had been upgraded due to our Diamond Hilton Honors status and that, as requested, we were put in a hypo-allergenic room.

As a Hilton Diamond, no upgrade to suite.

Great value, especially if you are a Hilton Honors member and receive an upgrade to a mini-suite.

I am a Hilton Diamond member and have previously stayed at the hotel multiple times and there was never an issue.

I travel throughout the country on business, and as a Hilton Diamond member, I seek out Hilton properties wherever I stay.

I am Hilton Diamond and I've stayed in a lot of Hilton Properties.

Upon check-in, I asked about upgrade and was informed I already received a 1 class upgrade to a Superior Room as a Hilton Diamond.

I am a HH Gold member and you can definitely tell they value that at this Hilton.

Hilton Honors status was promptly acknowledged.

As a Hilton Honors member I appreciate bottled water and cookiesupon arrival - my check- in experience at this Hilton San Gabriel was by far the best I have received, hands down!

The front desk was amazingly friendly, efficient and thorough in mentioning our celebration, being Hilton Honor, reviewing the hotel amentities and escorting us to the elevator.

Since I was Hilton diamond status she kindly upgraded  me to a superior room.

Free breakfast buffet since we are Hilton Honor Gold.

They greet you with smile and make you feel special with Hilton Honors complimentary gift package.

Because of this hotel,s location, we stay there everytime we go to Las Angeles, Because I'm a Gold Hilton member, I got free breakfast.

Additionally, the underground parking makes access so easy and the hotel's location to local eateries works really well if you just want to walk to a restaurant.

This hotel has it all--a good location that is close to the freeway, quiet newly renovated rooms, great local restaurants (mostly Chinese) and, most of all, helpful and friendly staff.

The staff is attentive and helpful (although they couldn't come to a consensus on which local restaurant to recommend :-) ).

It is close to my business necessities in the San Gabriel area, as well as convenient to local restaurants and cultural sites.

The staff was very accommodating providing me information on local restaurants and golf courses.

We were in LA for the Rose Bowl, and the front desk anticipated all of our questions by preparing a nice pamphlet on transportation to/from Pasadena.

It is only about 5 miles from downtown Pasadena.

but the Hilton in Pasadena referred us to the Hilton Los Angeles/San Gabriel, which was 45 miles away.

Hotel provided central location for San Gabriel Valley, Pasadena, Los Angeles.

Recommend it 100% is close to everything Pasadena, downtown, Beverly Hills and Hollywood.

The hotel is conveniently located off Interstate 10 in close proximity to Pasadena and perhaps 25-30 minutes to Rodeo Drive without traffic.

We were in town for the Rose Parade, and stayed here due to proximity to Pasadena.

Not too far from Downtown LA or Pasadena which have great attractions.

I mainly used this hotel to be a short distance from Pasadena which I could reach with an Uber.

Great hotel to stay at that is near the Pasadena Conference Center.

Close to the freeway so we could get to Pasadena and Disneyland.

Convenient 15 min to Pasadena and it was 15 min closer to Los Angeles and Orange County.

but a bit „smelly“ and a bit old fashioned (compared to the other hiltons during our trip) The breakfast was a complete Desaster.

Rooms dark and dingy, bathroom was terrible, poor products, bad floors, bad shower, moldy walls.

Stains on the carpet and the bathroom door (literally something that looks like a dried booger).

Cleaning, I noticed that most hotel room doors were scuff marked as I walked past and sadly our bathroom shower area suffered the attentive cleaning required to prevent serious mould build up around sills.

The conditions were filthy, I brought the issues to the staff’s attention which turned out to be a grave mistake for me because in turn I was accused of drug use in the room with no proof (I’ve never done any drugs, not even smoked).

We did notice a smell of cigarette smoke in the hall outside our room for a couple days during our stay,

However, our room had a musty smell and we had trouble with the heat.

The only downside to this hotel when I went: the restroom on the bottom floor toward the back of the hotel smelled badly.
