I surprised my husband with a stay at the grand for his birthday, I mentioned in the booking that it was his birthday and the lady on reception mentioned it and there was a card waiting for him.

I went to The Grand for my friend’s birthday.

We went  to celebrate a very special 90th Birthday,

It was my 50th birthday so a bit of a treat.

Stayed for 2 nights as a birthday treat for myself and it was a perfect visit!

My daughter and I spent three nights at the grand Brighton to celebrate her 18th birthday.

6 of us stayed for 3 nights to celebrate dads 90 birthday and mum and dads anniversary.

Knowing how lovely the lounge is in the grand Ed booked for pre dinner drinks for my nieces birthday.

I booked to stay here for my partners 50th birthday.

Celebratory weekend in Brighton for a friends birthday.

We were celebrating a birthday with our 13 year old son, he didn’t even get a biscuit in the room as everything was focused on two people.

Went to The Grand for afternoon tea for mother in laws 88th birthday , we had a lovely time , excellent service and food was amazing , we had to take cakes home there was so many , love the cake trolley , thank you to all the staff , very memorable trip.

This made the handwritten note they left on the bed ‘Happy birthday and Anniversary!’ Seem like a sarcastic joke rather than any real effort to make our stay special.

but it was my husband's 60th birthday so we treated ourselves.

We wanted to celebrate my wife's big birthday in style, The Grand Hotel defiantly ticked all the boxes and more.

but as it was my birthday I had the joyous experience of being popped into a HUGE corner suite!

My husband and I took advantage of the midweek deal to stay at The Grand for my birthday as Brighton is my favourite place in the UK.

The mattresses were so comfortable and we slept really well.

Comfortable , bath and shower and ruining board and iron and fridge and hairdryer which I liked also overall lovely stay would recommend and will be back

Our room was spotless and the bed was very comfortable.

We opted for a “kings” suite and was not disappointed, everything you could wish for, large comfy bed, plenty of place in the rooms, which by the way were very clean.the service at this hotel is superb,you are made to feel very welcome.to sum up, a delightful stay and well worth the money.

I surprised my husband for a night away as a little pick me up after what his been through and, the hotel is massive and it's quite and the staff were amazing we stayed in a inland room with courtyard view the shower was amazing and the bed is very comfy, breakfast was very nice I will be staying there again very soon

The room (grand collection seaview double) was spotless, spacious & very elegant with super comfortable bed with a balcony overlooking the seafront (room 216).

It was surprisingly quiet at night and had a super comfy bed, if a tad short for my husband.

The service was good on a hot and very busy day, the rooms - initially 133 and then 632 are fresh, clean and beds comfortable.

The AC system was good and the bed was comfortable.

Very comfortable bed, lots of storage space in the room to unpack etc.

We stayed in one of the Suites on the 7th Floor, the suite was amazing, very clean, every amenity one would need, bed very comfortable.

Also, we asked for a cot for the baby and they charged an extra £10, which given the price of the hotel, seems quite unfair.

My only two complaints are that the wifi didn’t work and it cost us an extra £60 in data over the week, adding that amount onto the cost of the room.

I can get a Deliveroo Driver to for £4 to travel across Brighton collecting whatever we want for 70% of the hotels prices.

All ok f this is because you took another booking off my partners card, even after I paid for the reservation!!!!!

Where to start… Paid £479 (!) for 1 night stay on a Monday (!)

Chipped baths and broken furniture are not what I expect when you are paying this price.

but couldn’t justify the  extra price 
My only disappointment was buffet breakfast was very poor display choice and quality and next time would stay room  only as I would have expected better  standard considering the rest of the hotel which I love  that said I can’t wait to stay again !

but when checking out we were given a bill for £35 and upon checking bank statement the parking cost us $87 aud

We did have room service for lunch which costs £5 charge plus 12.5% service, outrageous!

For the premium charge you should be looking for 5/5 in all categories.

but due to lack of car parking it cost £33 at the local NCP for 24 hours.

but limited choice and the drinks were very expensive.

I understand that Brighton in August is peak period and expensive,

However, room was very clean and comfy just the appearance different to advertisement/ needed a bit of an update considering the price you pay

I ordered a bucket of ice to my room & was charged £8 room service fee, won't do that again!

Noisy wedding (on a sunday) no warning as to this.

Whilst we expected road noise the singing from some of the performers at the open air booth near the Music Hall was quite intrusive and far from relaxing.

I understand that a crying child is a difficult noise to address at a hotel,

but nothing great: beds are comfy but bathroom is very tired , amenities a bit basic and the noise from a party within the hotel was loud and went on past midnight.

but if this is the case then they should provide some type of noise control.

Room was noisy as air conditioning could be heard thru a closed window.

There was lots of noise from fighting drunks at 2am

However our room at the back had constant beeping from outside all night - then very noisy building site in the morning.

It was a hot few days and the room aircon was at the max which made it noisy.

Due to the lack of proper windows (they have only wooden-framed, single-glazed sash windows) it's impossible to keep the noise and vibration at bay.

When you are in a bathroom you can hear everything what is going on in the corridor,

Such a shame that the experience was marred by a terrible nights sleep as the room we had was an inland room where you can hear the constant loud drone of what sounds like large fans!

Chairs on each landing need to be reupholstered and breakfast area needs more of a selection and staff.

There was many other people complaining regarding the noise.

I assume the floorboards are connected which meant any time either of us got out of bed the other room was aware of it.

but one of the windows vibrates, it was a noisy night and I gave up trying to sleep before 6.

Only negative was the shower - a slightly painful over the bath jet with an old fashioned shower curtain to attack you!

though because it's in the centre of things it is noisy at night.

The noise when people walked on the loose floorboards on the corridor outside was easy to hear.

but the party goers across the road can bet noisy,

Really enjoyed the food at breakfast and dinner.

Check-in was BAD, concierge was great, room service was good, bar staff were BAD, breakfast staff were good.

The rooms are spacious and clean, the staff and friendly and helpful, the location is perfect and very central and finally the breakfast was fantastic, so much variety and great quality food.

We very much enjoyed the cocktail tasting session pre booked in the Victoria lounge bar.

The restaurant offers the prfect romantic moment for a couple.

The dining room is excellent and the food is excellent and varied.

The food was nice and would certainly recommend the afternoon tea experience.

Everything was first class, room, restaurant and service.

We had an evening meal in the Cyan which was absolutely wonderful, and I felt for the quality, was very reasonably priced.

The lounge bar manager needs to join the club he is somewhat snappy

(I had a small double at the back and even that was really nicely appointed).Food in Cyan, The Grill and at breakfast was delicious, Housekeeping was responsive when we asked for a bedside clock in the room.

Great experience in a world class hotel at an exceptionnal location, Very good breakfast, nice and quiet room, very friendly staff at reception, bar, restaurant and room service.

Cocktails in the bar were really great and had room service which was to a good standard.

Room super clean, ideal location for shopping, the pier, bars and restaurants.

Cocktails and evening entertainment were also a lovely way to end the day.

The whole area is kept very clean and tidy and the hot food was very fresh.

We stayed in a sea view room and enjoyed waking up to the sight of the sea.

We were in an ocean view room with balcony.

I think you need to book a sea view room to get the most out of your stay and hope you get allocated a room with a balcony, which is a lovely place to sit and watch.

We stayed in room 224 which has great views over the sea and a balcony.

Amazing 4 nights, gorgeous sea view room, sumptuous breakfasts and super friendly staff.

We had a classic sea view room, which was reasonably comfortable, with a safe and refrigerator.

I usually stay in a Grand Collection sea view room (as they all have balconies)

We splashed out on a sea view room with balcony, which was super.

We stayed in a deluxe sea view room that lived up to expectations.

We always stay in a sea view room and love the views of the water and skyline.

Gorgeous sea view room and terrific breakfast - yet horrified for my room service dinner they charged for the expected tray service AND service was added for both soft/alcoholic AND dinner!

It  simply makes no sense to book a standard non-sea view room unless you get a really good deal.

A perfect sea view room, incredibly luxurious.

Over the years we have visited this hotel many times and we have always been impressed by the level of service given and the appearance of the staff.

We were impressed by the level of service at the Victoria Lounge, and enjoyed greatly the quality of food and personalised service at the Cyan Restaurant.

The room was really comfortable and the level of hygiene across the hotel was exceptional.

Pros:

All staff were great and gave the level of service we would have expected from The Grand.

From the moment we arrived the level of service from all staff we encountered was exceptional.

The level of service was exemplary and we were immediately delighted.

The room was clean and nicely furnished, the bathroom was built to a budget and I was surprised that the level of finish was not higher.

but the single   rooms are shabby with huge clunky oversized furniture and no view as windows covered in film.

Our 6th floor room needed some renovation to bathroom (panel and window slightly rotten) and window ledges were dirty and growing weeds.

but be aware if you have a balcony or sea view high season there is a open top pub directly across the road and the music is very very loud so you cannot open the windows.

We reported the curtains three times as the hooks were missing and they would not keep our the light.

Our windows were overlooking the internal 5 storey walls, could not see the sky, daylight meant dusk for us.

but our only issue was both the windows were frosted, so we couldn't see out!

The depth of the huge public rooms mean that the restaurants are dark unless you are right by the window.

Rooms at the Grand are a bit hit or miss, the one we had this year had some surfaces that seemed a bit worn, the curtains were stained in the strangest of places and the bathroom,

but better windows might have helped, and there was also a lack of soundproofing from the room above mine.

Not wanting to have a weekend completely spoiled, we accepted and then went out to explore, leaving the air conditioning on to cool the room (as it was one of the hottest days of the year and the room had lots of windows).

The building next to the hotel is a building site so you need to keep your curtains closed to stop the builders looking in.

View of a concrete wall and pipe work from bedroom window so room dark and oppressive, no mobile phone reception in my room, WiFi intermittent, some free view channels missing from TV and a shower curtain rather than glass screen.

The pitiful view from my window (see below) was bearable, my friends on another floor were

but the bathroom was tired and the windows dirty.

Moved into an extremely hot room where windows wouldn't open,

Windows in the room did not insulate from outside noise and wind.

The room was comfortable with panoramic views of the coastline, beach and Brighton pier.

but really well appointed, with a great bed and a bath with view of the pier.

Our room had the hugest bed I have ever seen and a view of the pier, as well as a hidden dressing area so that all one's  luggage and belongings were hidden.

We had wonderful room with full view of the sea and pier.

Views are amazing of the sea and the pier.

My favourite part of the room was the bathtub with the beach views.

The room was magnificent  especially the huge bed and wonderful bath with views of the pier and beach.

but with a great view over the seafront and pier plus a large freestanding bath in the bay window.

Our room was a king size room with sea views - lovely in the morning with good view of the pier lit at night.

The room with beach view was amazing, it was very well set up and very clean with a great view out front to the beach.

We stayed in a feature room(circular sea view room) which had the most amazing view of the sea and pier.

Brilliant views both ways along the coast.

We had a one night stay at Drakes of Brighton, the staff were very friendly, our room, on the 3rd floor, overlooked the sea with views of the pier & was well appointed with a freestanding rolltop bath in the room, as well as an ensuite wetroom.

Our room was lovely, with a big comfy bed and freestanding bath with views towards the pier and beach.

The bath was lovely to look out of the window at the pier and sea

We chose Drake's together and decided on the Sea Facing Circular King Room which was absolutely gorgeous and the view of the sea and the pier is out of this world.

We where lucky enough to get the ying yang room with the best view of the pier and a bath in the window the cocktail bar is fabulous and breakfast in the restaurant was great this hotel is  lovely and quiet and has a nice personal feel about it

but stairs to higher floors were a bit steep and no lift as the building is listed.

Lots of stairs and no lift so beware and the parking works

Cons - we were on floor 3, and as the hotel had no lifts the stairs was a bit of a challenge.

Our room was on the second floor and there was no lift

Two night stay (Sat and Sun) in an attic room, 4th floor, no lift.

We had room 201 - up two flights of stairs (no lift unfortunately - due to it being a listed building this can’t be done).

Our room was on the third floor, around 40-50 stairs, so if you have mobility issues you may need to check if there is a lift as I’m not sure if there is one.

It is important to know that the hotel does not have a lift for some reason, so if you struggle with stairs, perhaps a lower floor would suit you.

There isn't a lift and we were on the third floor.

The only drawback is that there’s no lift.

Some might find the lack of a lift an issue for access to the upper floors?

We were checked into our room and our bags were carried up the stairs to our room (there is no lift within the hotel) and we were shown to our room.

When I read some of the reviews on here, with complaints about things like the absence of a lift, the number of stairs to the top floor, the installation of wet rooms rather than traditional bathrooms, I get the impression that people sometimes don't understand what they are booking.

During check in, it was explained to us that there was no lift as it is a listed building and that we were on the fourth floor,

Minor gripes no lift (apparently they could not fit one in to this historic building,

There isn't a lift which might be worth remembering if you have a room on the upper floors

Just so you know there is no lift so it is a long way up in the old building!!

This upmarket boutique hotel is an attractive Georgian terrace on the sea front a few hundred meters to the East of the hurly-burly of Brighton.

On arrival I thought the hotel was in a good location - right on the sea front on the east side of the pier - and that the entrance and reception area was very smart.

Our room was absolutely beautiful, great views of the sea front and the free-standing bath is an amazing feature of the room.

It’s within easy walk of the sea front and pier, shops and Lanes and there are plenty of places to eat en route.

The little terrace offers a good place for sunbathing and stunning views across Brighton’s sea front, beach and pier.

We chose the hotel for its location - central on the sea front & the fact it had parking & were not disappointed.

It’s a beautiful building, a short walk from everything Brighton has to offer whether it’s the sea front attractions or the quaint Lanes.

Its definitely worth booking as its right on the sea front.

Right on the sea front, you can see Brighton pier from your room (if you get a sea view one)!

Our room was at the front so we had a sea view, not often you can sit in the bath while looking at the beach!

The Drake Hotel is right on the sea front so is an excellent location for the Pier and sea front activities.

I think for what we paid we got a very poor room especially compared to some of the other hotels on offer in Brighton for the same price if not less.

Breakfast is an additional cost and sadly no Salmon available

Breakfast in bed is the same price as in the dining room; even that demonstrates the hotel puts guests first.

Cost for 3 nights in July was over £500 and for that it should be clear.

although it was 30 minutes late with no apology and rather plain, again despite a steep price.

The breakfast we thought was rather expensive - £10 for a bowl of porridge and £15 for cooked breakfast - which is the reason I have only given 4 stars.

Went elsewhere for food and drink nice setting just over priced for what is was which is a shame.

pricey the service was  very good couldn't complain about  the Service  l wouldn't  go back there again as it is very expensive

Considering the price tag and how they position themselves, I would expect more attention to detail, esp when it comes to cleaning and housekeeping.

Overpriced drinks and having to pay for parking is a disappointment

When it arrived there was a thin layer of avocado on a cold toast which costs £12.50 ??

but eggs and anything cooked costs more up to £15pp.

Local parking wasn’t a problem and costs a similar rate.
