Fabulous for fans of hotels with excellent bedding, a beautiful heated swimming pool, a "to die for" breakfast buffet.

Dinner is a real gastronomic experience - delicious seafood, steak and lamb and lovely touches like vegetable tart, apricot crumble and the very lightest soufflé.

The breakfast gateau pistache was so good, I went looking for a recipe to make at home - sure enough they’ve posted it on their blog!

but wished we had stayed at La Disirade for our entire trip. We went back to have breakfast there (best on the island!)

La Desirade is a calm, full service oasis in the middle of the island, encompassing bright, airy rooms, a lovely restaurant (one of the top tables on Belle Ile for dinner), a relaxing swimming pool, and, above all, personalized service that makes guests want to return and visit their new-found friends,  Benedicte & Pierre and team.

The pool area and spa (with a jacuzzi), as well as the many sun beds dotted around the garden are perfect for relaxing with a book.

Having a break at la Désirade allow a very peaceful and pleasant stay wether it is for a week-end or for holidays.

We spent five nights relaxing on Belle Isle, courtesy of the friendly staff at La Desirade.

When we requested electric bikes or a lift to the airport, nothing was a problem.

but they also smelled fantastic (wish I’d asked what fragrance they use in the diffusers!)

I had left a bag on the bus and she phoned the company immediately, without being asked.

Good points also to: swimming pool, garden, games, recommendations about things to do in the island.

The rooms are lovely, ours was set around the beautifully maintained swimming pool, and we were upgraded to a suite, as there were no double rooms available, given that we had not booked in advance.

Heated swimming pool was relaxing, clean and very well maintained.

Our room, in a little traditionally designed cottage, was very comfortable, and the gardens well tended with a beautiful swimming pool.

The hotel is well equipped with a heated swimming pool (spotlessly clean) and the rooms are adequate, despite the fact that they have no sea views as the hotel is located inland by about 3Kms.

but there are no ties for the drapes to prevent them from blowing out the windows in the wind.

Be careful of the parasols ours blew over in the breeze,luckily no one was hurt and only water was spilt.

- Lunch menu, drinks and other extras in general were quite expensive
- While we can't blame Castel Clara for the hottest July on the Belle-Île since 1951, it's a fact that the absence of air conditioning in the rooms really spoiled the overall experience.

but the shower was weak and you had to climb in and out of the bath, not ideal.

The toilet room was so small that you could not shut the door unless you squeezed in and turned around.My husband is 6ft, so his knees hit the door.

Three things to keep in mind:  The amenities are not provided in miniature containers in 
order to reduce waste.

This was a bad start to what was otherwise an enjoyable  stay: the food at both breakfast and dinner was excellent and of particular note was the friendly cheerful and efficient staff throughout the hotel from chamber maid to breakfast staff to dinner waiters and waitresses .

The scenic location and the great walks along the coast helped us to burn the calories we collected during the fabulous breakfast buffet (the local caramel and local pastries were divine) .

Most of the Thalasso I have visited lately already  have integrated light 400-600 calorie 3 course options into their menus (that taste delicious by the way).

Breakfast is massive and delicious, and our  evening meal at thier restaurant was memorable.

You have to decide between buffet or the menu.

The weather was great and we could dine with our dog on the terrace which was giving us a fantastic view over the little bay.

The room was really nice, and the kids had their own room upstairs (both of our rooms had ocean view).

Rest, thalassa-spa/massages, hikes or bicycling around the Island or simply sitting enjoying the sea view.

We were very lucky with the weather, big blue sky and expansive sea view.

Nor did it allow for enough time to simple sit on the comfortable deck and just absorb the beautiful view and warm atmosphere.

Access to a little cove to swim in the sea.

The jacuzzi and pool are in a fab setting towering over the coastline with temperatures at 34 degrees.

but a peaceful well kept place wit nice coastline and a good selection of hotels.

Location of the hotel is great, too, with its own bus stop from which to explore the island, and just a few minutes walk to Sauzon's  lively waterfront cafés and bars.

We didn’t try the evening buffet as not really fans of seafood

If you can get in ,le cardinal is a great deal..  with a wonderful fish buffet.

The hotel itself was very clean, all the facilities required, excellent pool and hot-tub (overlooking sea) and the restaurant had fantastic buffet dinner - it was not a luxury stay,

There is also  a "famous seafood buffet" (32 Euro) which justified its reputation.

where each evening Le Cardinal rolls out an amazing seafood buffet, open to guests (29 euros, including wine) and locals (32).

All in all, would highly recommend this place as it’s only a short walk to the small village of Sauzon where there is a wide choice of eateries.

Perched up on a hill over looking sea - this standard hotel has a great location in that you great views of the sea, whilst in a short distance to the beautiful port of Sauzon.

Belle Ile is a stunning destination, and Le Cardinal proved an inspired choice of hotel.

This hotel has one very strong playing card: its stunning location on a hill overlooking the charming port of Sauzon and a lovely pool from where to contemplate those views.

It's set on a cliff overlooking the Atlantic.

Lovely rooms in an amazing old building; beautifully kept and lovingly furnished.

The restoration shows extreme taste and practical beauty.

Our room (Guedel) was quiet, we heard no noises from others.

We were particularly lucky as we were there on the night of the fireworks display and we had the best view ever from our room.

We loved our room and the view of the harbour.

Prominent location overlooking the whole bay of Sauzon and across the gulf to Quiberon.

The building was a wonderful house standing alone at the Sauzon harbor and the views from our suite were just outstanding.

If you are looking for a tranquil place in one of the most gorgeous coastal areas in Europe, your search is over.

You can go for a walk along the seashore on the cliff.

The location on the rugged coast of Belle Île is superb.

The view to all side of the hotel was once in a lifetime (ocean, coast and lighthouse).

Wonderful walks along the shore and spectacular sceneries a few minutes away from the hotel. A bit pricey, especially the breakfast (not included in the room rate.  )

You can drive to Sarah Bernhardt's seaside cottage, the charming village of Sauzon, with several good cafes (try Le Cafe) and very friendly people, a nearby creperie, Creperie au Coton (quite good) and lovely beaches all around the island.

Belle ile en Mer is a lovely island off the coast of Brittany.

but no worries-they arranged a bicycle hire which came right to the hotel, and we biked the whole island easily, including the beaches.

Good breakfast The restaurant was very popular For diner so I strongly suggest to book it days in advance.

but we could enjoy the swimming pool, a nice diner, a great breakfast and we found all the staff very helpful and smiling.

but they serve coffee like a little breakfast (two cakes added) and that was just what we needed.

Our room was fine, albeit a little small, and the breakfasts were good quality .

The view from the breakfast room and the terrace was fabulous, and the staff was friendly and helpful.

but there is also a great little creperie you can walk to from the hotel, plus a lovely little store which has cheese, fruit, croissants, yogurt, baguettes, etc.

The staff are friendly and professional, going out of their way to meet even the smallest demand.

The hotel is situated in a class A plus plus location, it's clean, well maintained, ha a s fantastic kitchen, friendly stuff and is not too expensive.

but the restaurant is without fault and the staff is very friendly for the most part.

We stayed there for the Easter weekend, staff are very friendly and tried their best to fulfill our needs, especially when we requested a vegetarian meal for dinner and when I twisted my ankle.

Never caught without a smile, they also are very human in their exchanges with the clientele.

Hopefully the hotel will improve its service to paying guests going forward.

During our stay, half board menu was offered for dinner as long as you were hotel guests (even if you were not on a half-board plan) and it was offered to anybody (even non hotel guests) for lunch.

Leave your car in Quiberon, we did not this time and paid that ridiculous price of 340,- just for the car.

Views are spectacular, I would have paid more for an ocean facing room,

but we discovered much better food at lower prices in Sauzon especially.

It is expensive and worse still, there is little or no choice on the menu.

More unconvenient, we have found food offerings well overpriced and not diversified enough.

Motorists will find themselves wondering why their half-hour ferry crossing has cost them about  £300 for a car plus two passengers.

So since breakfast is not included, we decided not to spend the 9 Euros and instead had quite a feast at the little store for half the price.

With a beautiful view of the sea from my room and the fresh ocean air blowing in, it was a restorative time away.

The restaurant is both fairly priced for excellent food and the lovely views .

We got a beautiful room overlooking the sea.

Swimming pool filled with sea water is heated and sheltered from the road.

Pay extra and ask for a room upstairs and as far from the kitchen/restaurant as possible so you can savor the spectacular view when you're inside as well as outside.

The views are spectacular and the island is a really lovely place to spend a couple of days.
